A few first birthdays left, then we're full tilt into walking/talking and a mountain of mischief Smile

PA I work as a civil servant for the States of Guernsey within the Home Department (equivalent of the UK Home Affairs). I deal with liquor licensing, preparing reports for the Court, doing inspections...

SocietyClowns · 01/04/2011 19:21

IC I thought exactly the opposite and wanted to get the novelty of the new baby out of the way before getting dd1 out of nappies. I thought one new thing at a time was quite enough to deal with Smile

PA I had hoped to get dd1 out of her cotbed in time for dd2 but she was very reluctant, so I left it. Bought a basic cot for dd2 and resold it a few months later. I guess having dd1 a little older also meant she didn't wander around the house on her own. I am thinking about getting bunk beds at Christmas though so I can put the girls in one room and reclaim an office/spare room Grin

Oh dear sorry I am in a right state - DS has been dribbling loads recently but I thought it was just teething but I looked at his tongue this evening and he has loads of ulcers on it around the edges just like I had last week with the oral thrush. I think I've given it to him. Can you catch it from sharing a straw? I shared a drink with him a few times when I had the ulcers. Or from breastfeeding? I'm almost out of nystatin and I don't know whether to give it without asking a doctor (I know it't ok for him to have it because he did in hospital) but when I think of how painful it was for me, if he's going through that I want to do something to stop it getting worse over the weekend.

Is one of you a pharmacist? I thought someone here was. Oh dear - DH is out and I am really panicking. DS is not going to sleep.

PenguinArmy · 01/04/2011 19:36

Hi BC

I can only suggest that you look here It's for breast feeding and thrush but I assume the rules regarding treatment apply. You can buy it, but it's expensive or you can doc to prescribe

good luck

StoneBaby · 01/04/2011 19:36

bc Sad CS is/was a pharmacist (i think)

SocietyClowns · 01/04/2011 19:50

bear nystatin is fine, they use it on very new babies - can you give him some tonight and then get advice tomorrow?

Bearcrumble · 01/04/2011 19:50

Thanks PA and SB - the leaflet is really good. I don't have any symptoms in my breasts but my mouth is still not totally right after 9 days of treatment and it was such a shock to see the horrible ulcers in DS's mouth. Sad I wish tomorrow was a weekday so I could see a GP. At least I already have a follow up appt. booked for Monday morning.

I know it's only a couple of days and I shouldn't be freaking out but I am. The idea of him in pain, you know.

Bearcrumble · 01/04/2011 19:54

Thanks SC I have such a tiny bit left in the bottle - I gave him 0.2ml (I know the full does is 1ml) and I have enough to give him about 4 more small doses.

GPs is only open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.

Maybe the pharmacist will give me some ahead of my Monday appt as I already have some and I can take the rx into him.

From that leaflet it looks like it's really hard to shift in babies.

StoneBaby · 01/04/2011 20:05

bc can't you go to a&e tomorrow? Ours has a gp there who will consult non energency cases if needed at the weekend

LittlebearH · 01/04/2011 20:09

BC Thrush thing sounds horrid. I cannot offer any advice. Just sympathies! Hope all ok soon. :(

Bearcrumble · 01/04/2011 20:10

I am a bit calmer now he's asleep. My mum has a pharmacist friend she's going to ask him if he can give us some in advance of the GP appointment and we give him the prescription later.

I'll take PA's leaflet along to the GP on Monday and make sure we are both treated with what it recommends. Even if it is just as a precaution - best to make sure it's totally eradicated or we could go on infecting each other.

Thanks and sorry for being such a stress-head. I know it is a relatively minor thing but bloody hell it did hurt so much and I just went crazy thinking he was hurting like I did. But he has been eating which suggests it hasn't got to the stage mine did before I started the Nystatin.

Bearcrumble · 01/04/2011 20:12

If the pharmacist can't help I guess I could go to a+e but I don't know if it would be appropriate. I don't think they have a GP at ours.

SocietyClowns · 01/04/2011 20:27

I can't see anything on our FB group at the moment... anyone else have that problem??

SocietyClowns · 01/04/2011 20:29

Sorry, it's back... Confused

StoneBaby · 01/04/2011 20:37

SC I just posted a picture and it seems to have worked

bethylou · 01/04/2011 21:32

supposed to be packing party bags and lurking while DH has gone to the supermarket..

Couldn't leave without saying to BC that when I get oral thrush (a lot) it barely hurts at all so don't think we all get the same level of pain from it - maybe that will reassure you? It does make me feel a bit fluey though sometimes so maybe needs a little calpol if a bit 'off'?

My boys have both had it too as it's quite hard not to spread it about, especially if you are feeding still as well. Neither were bothered about it either. I'm not trying to belittle your concern, especially if it's all new to you, but hope that this will reassure you. You can get daktarin over the counter at any pharmacy for about £4.50 I think and can give it to little ones over 4 months I believe (and waits for CS to come along and correct me!) Personally I wouldn't go to A and E with it, but then I didn't take DS1 last week with a 1cm gaping gash in his lip so I'm not a good benchmark with that!!

Back in a couple of days after DS1's 3rd birthday party on Sunday (and two others to attend tomorrow as well-just what we need after last weekend) if I survive party bags, cake making etc.. It's a fire engine this time round! Can't believe I am now the mum of a 3 year old (and a 1 year old!)

Sunny weekend thoughts and wine (or hot chocolate) to all. Grin

flyingcloud · 02/04/2011 05:49

Gah, just wrote a really long post and lost it all. So annoying. It was a big wave hello to everyone and lots of personal responses which I am so bad at doing.

Anyway, thinking of you all and have a great weekend!

SocietyClowns · 02/04/2011 09:11

Second babies really come on quicker... I had dd2 shouting 'mine!' (or more accurately 'mein') at breakfast to make sure she got her share of the porridge Grin
Told my mum yesterday that dd2 is fascinated by seagulls and she asked for a picture of dd2 and seagull... Hmm. Not a chance! Some of them stand as tall as dd2 and are vicious. I wouldn't let her near them, especially not to pose for a photo!

[waves back at flying)

StoneBaby · 02/04/2011 15:08

DS is happy to eat what we eat at lunchtime but now want to be fed with an adult fork. Confused I'm happy to do this but also worry that he'll hurt himself.

Just bought DS his 2nd pair of shoes, luckily they were in sale Grin

Have a good weekend

SocietyClowns · 02/04/2011 17:41

dh has been away for one night and was just greeting by dd2 walking towards him all on her own. Priceless!! Smile

PenguinArmy · 02/04/2011 17:46

soc I think you'll find that my second child will bed decidingly average on walking and more importantly sleeping. It will be a chilled relaxed baby, none of this high needs stuff...maybe It was a lot different on the scan at least. DD went fitting everywhere, event the sonographer commented, this one just every so often moved an arm :) Scones I think I have a little belly now, I always look like I've just eaten

Great vid on facebook sb

SocietyClowns · 02/04/2011 18:16

I feel strangely nervous about going out tonight... Confused Almost like it's a date... Grin We definitely don't go out enough!!!

StoneBaby · 02/04/2011 18:26

SC have a great night, who knows maybe DC3 is around the corner Grin Wink

PA thanks, he is wining insurance by the minute. He still need to crawl to somewhere to get up but once on his feet, he walks. He did a show to my mum on skype, I'm very pleased.

I'm now having a Wine as DH is away with a few friends and Ds is asleep Blush

PenguinArmy · 02/04/2011 18:30

gaining assurance/confidence=wining insurance? took me a while to work that one out

DD was the same at first, once she worked out how to stand, that was it.

soc have fun. At least you won't need the MAP if you have too much fun

StoneBaby · 02/04/2011 18:32

Yep PA sometimes my English is a bit too French Blush Grin
