Kiwi, I would be so proud of you were my sister, I really cannot believe she hasn't read any of your work. Lady you are the least competitive mum I know, but why is simply being proud of your children competitive. And Beans, I'm genuinely shocked by your sister. I get that sort of disbelief that my job is anything important from my brother. He is a big manager in a huge company back home. He was telling me something to do with his work and I sympathised as I've had difficulties as a manager too. He was surprised I could identify, he has been told loads that I was in a management post but just couldn't equat, me as 'just a nurse' being a manager. Which made me grumbly on 2 levels one that he is so self absorbed and just never took an interest in my career (even though I have to constantly tell him how great his is) & also grass roots level 'just nurses' are far more valuable than managers. Maybe its a first child thing.

Indith, I don't know what to say to help but I'm thinking of you. Do you know how long until you find out?

Lady, I am a trained professional Wink

That is so sweet of your DP, lady very thoughtful, I'm dying to know what it is. Oh and I have a solution for your holiday in southern France, you and team Pubes. If your friends house over there needs some work, then why don't you offer the services of the Lord & MrPubus in exchange for a couple of weeks hire of the home. Then Mr Pubes can have a DIY fix and you can have a holiday together.

Artichokes · 11/02/2011 12:54

The aquarium is a great idea Jam. We took DD1 when she was two and she adored it. SL can we tempt you.

I can't really join in on the sibling chat as I grew up as an only. I did discover a half brother in my teens though. He has built a life round the millions he has made from taking extreme sado masochistic porn photographs. Nice!

KiwiPanda · 11/02/2011 13:00

Rub Yeah my parents are pretty odd too! ACtually my Dad has got a lot better with DD as her language skills improve, but my mum is so awkward with her! We were in the playground the other day and DD kept saying "Look Granny look!" as she went down slide, or whatever, and my mum was just somewhere else... not engaging at all. Strange.

I want to adopt my in-laws as my own. When I wrote that Mr Tumble piece the other day, well my in-laws visited that weekend and the first thing my father-in-law said was how much he'd liked it. This is a man who has no interest in teh subject matter, but had taken the time to read it (he's not a big reader either) and say nice things. Was so sweet.

KiwiPanda · 11/02/2011 13:00

Oh cross posted veg that's very sweet, thank you! xxx

Artichokes · 11/02/2011 13:01

Oh and my half bro's wife used to give him an E with his dinner each night as he only talks when high. Might explain why I find him hard work. They are divorced now so he never really says much but likes to show me his photos.

Rubena · 11/02/2011 13:01

Not a bad idea Vagola, however I'd love a holiday which doesn't involve power tools. Last visit to my brothers house, and after my brother spent a crud load on audio visual equipment knowing he didn't have a clue what to do with it all, dh just cannot resist and before I knew it I was on a ladder feeding him category 5 wires and dh was crawling through the ceiling of my brothers house in about 35 degree heat (50 in the roof) at 3 am Hmm
We are going to seriously look into the gite thing after we get back from this trip - and after we book our quick trip to, ahem, Ibiza for this wedding Hmm (it's on the non party side!) but a trip with the bikes somewhere drivable is dh's idea of heaven, so it won't be a hard sell. He will want a relaxing holiday as he has to start buckling down for about 6 months of study coming up, plus while I'm on Maternity leave we want to make the most of it.

vagolaJahooli · 11/02/2011 13:02

Oh Arti a half brother how intriguing.

WG I'd forgotten the jam jars, does that mean I am doing the world a service by buying nutella? And carbon neutral wedding in Israel, hilarious.

Rubena · 11/02/2011 13:06

Arti that's Shock!!!

Oh and I'd be up for an Aquarium visit too!

Kiwi - yes my mil is v v good with the kids -sad to say but probably best that she is the one close by if I can only have one set. We are getting to know fil now too and although have only seen him 3 times, he seems quite good too. Just a shame it's all a big no no to to discuss around mil. dc's great g'ma just sent a valentines day card in the post - so sweet, it just said " dear dd and ds guess who loves you" xxxxx (it was either from mil or great mil - but I think the latter byt the hand writing) so sweet.

Rubena · 11/02/2011 13:08

on a side note. ds has a bath pretty much every night, but in the morning, and throughout the day, I notice during nappy changes his todger is really whiffy - Is that normal? I remember the dd smelly bits convo a while back, but was there a ds one? Sorry if you're having lunch.

vagolaJahooli · 11/02/2011 13:09

Oh Rubes, so your DH can't help but do DIY huh. You know you guys would love the Hague for a little holiday, you got the beach, lots of good cycling. Absolutely nothing to do with us needing a big cupboard partition thing removed from our new kitchen and a granite bench raised by half a foot.

Rubes apparently Ibiza is brilliant for kids, even the party side.

Arti, an E with dinner, I dont think I could function.

Beans33 · 11/02/2011 13:12

Arti - that is hilarious! You have a brilliant turn of phrase! Hee hee! The photos must be, erm, interesting! Bleugh!

I agree with your FIL, Kiwi - since reading your article on Mr Tumble, I've been singing his praises to everyone. Never has one piece of writing changed my mind so quickly! Well done! And got the real impression that you thought he was a very nice chap to boot.

I've just had a delicious, very fattening, salad. Lettuce with avacado, chorizo and prawns and yummy Mary Berry dressing. Dribble. Burp.

This afternoon I've got a friend from school coming over. She's perfectly nice, but a bit self-absorbed. I've spent a couple of years gently losing touch with her, and had actually succeeded, apart from seeing her at the odd party here and there. Then I bumped into her when shopping and she asked for my number and the next day texted me about 8 dates she was free to come round. Cripes. So I had to go with it. I guess it's a way to pass the afternoon!!!

vagolaJahooli · 11/02/2011 13:17

Oh and Rubes DS1 is better now but has taken ages to get over the tiredness after this recent infection he's only been to school half days this week. Apparently they are being extra careful with kids here as there has been loads of sick kids. In the news here they have been saying in the last couple of weeks an average of one in four kids has been sick with this weird bug.

Oh boys willys don't really need cleaning but if you want to help it clean just hold his Willy pull back so the foreskin retracts a teeny bit just a millimeter will do and just give it a little wiggle around under the water to get some water flowing around it. Otherwise maybe just give him some nappy off time. If he gets a temp and vomiting you should take him to the GP in case he has a UTI but its unlikely and he doesn't have any other symptoms anyway does he.

Rubena · 11/02/2011 13:19

Actually Vaggie - he'd probably be really keen. I could be too if it's not a big job. And you could take me to those great kiddie places that have bars that I always get Envy about!
Seriously, it would be great to do a Gite trip though in Summer, and get one nearby you lot. We could all have a drink in Condom and take a photo under the sign post Grin We could somehow talk Lady and Lord into it I reckon.

vagolaJahooli · 11/02/2011 13:20

Beans your lovely I'd be desperate to keep in touch with you.

Rubena · 11/02/2011 13:28

No Vag otherwise he's fine. Just really tired like you say ds1 is. I think his current sicky thing is just a virus of some kind. the tallywhacker has been a bit whiffy for ages. Just sweaty todger stuff I think. I will do that though if he lets me tonight when he has a bath.

Beans have a nice ahem time with your friend you don't like so much! You can always visit us if you want to and are ever bored!

Vag - we were going to take the kids to Ibiza at one point, but then decided, that there's really only one day out of the 3 that we will be there fore that they would be able to really enjoy so will prob leave them with mil. day 1 is a big BBQ at a Villa with the guests, day 2 is the wedding and day 3 is a booze cruise. kids are welcome at the wedding but it's on the side of a cliff HERE so I'd rather not be having cheerfulness and worrying about them!

Beans33 · 11/02/2011 13:37

VAG - I love you! That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me in ages. Nearly wept.

Rubes - I'd love to come and see you - and if you do fancy a mid-pm trip tomorrow, we're more than would love to see you. BUT if it all gets a bit late and you can't be bothered, then don't worry. Feel free to bring Mr Rubes too if he'd like. You can stay and do children's supper and bath and then head home afterwards. BUT don't worry if not.

PS Had to do a preggo test yesterday. Got fear was up duff after coil issues, then morning after pill, then bleeding for a week and then nothing since. Been over a month, so suddenly thought I might be up the old dufferoo. Am not, which is good as it would be TOOOOO soon and I'm only just starting to feel human (with setbacks) with DD2 at 7 months. BUT a little bit of me was probably every so slightly disappointed. I guess I am up for number 3 afterall. Bum.

KiwiPanda · 11/02/2011 14:09

Beans you nutter Wink

Hey, Rub and Beans - I could definitely do afternoon too if it mean you come come too? Rub, that is, not Beans, as I rather assume you can come too to your own house Wink. We don't really have any plans tomorrow and DH is just secretly delighted he might get a bit of time to himself... in fact he'd probably prefer I was out in the afternoon as there's a match on he wanted to watch!

traceface · 11/02/2011 14:09

hi all.
Sorry to hear of poorly dcs. vag how are AK's legs?
JJ i felt so sorry for your dd having to miss cake baking - my gut instinct says that's a bit too harsh for a just 2 year old Sad You're describing a normal toddler, so please don't worry about her behaviour.
Jam I'm glad you got a listening doctor today. Hope the inhaler works. P has a horrid cough which doesn't really bother her in the day but wakes her loads in the night. It's only been a few days though so probably no need to get her checked out yet. Poor lamb.
ZJ I agree with Vag that The Dashing Mr ZJ needs to earn his title. He shall now be known as The Disappointingly Slack Mr ZJ until he makes it up to you about the lack of birthday specialness. Hope you enjoy your peaceful day Smile
JB glad to hear you're still keeping hold of MiniJB. Are you ok? It must be draining having all your appointments.
WG you sounded so happy and content the other day. How is DH at the moment?
effie how is poor ds's face? Hope the creams etc have helped.
Kiwi I don't know your real name or where to read any of your stuff. How can I find the Justin interview? How is dd these days? Still intense and demanding your boobs a lot?
We've decided to go for the Farmhouse GrinI took my parents to look round and they were really keen for us. They feel it's a bit too far for us to try to keep our York life going though, ie choir, church, L's dancing etc, and that it would mean starting again and finding a new life in the nearest village. They're propbably right as it's a half hour drive from our house now. But we've checked out the nearest place and it has a Rainbows and a dancing class and looks like a lovely little place. We're having our house valued next week then will go for it! yikes! How many agents would you ask to value your property, for a comparison? I booked 3, but in retrospect one of the ladies I spoke to was quite rude, so I cancelled that one today Blush and don't know whether to get a 3rd or stick with the 2. Any thoughts?
Things here are ok. L is being quite challenging - she said she wants to live with grandma because she doesn't like living with P - but she's having her good moments too. I'm on day 3 of my new tablets and feeling ok some of the time and not ok at others. I've been a bit suspicious of my new pills, thinking that they might not be real, that the consultant prescribed a placibo to test if I really need them. But it doesn't quite add up as she would have had to contact the pharmacist to get them to put a real information leaflet in with the fake drug. I feel a bit confused about it.
ANyway, I wish I could go back to work but my sick note says 6 weeks minimum now.
Well I must put the washing on so I'm n ot completely useless today. I friend from work has brought me some scones and bolognese for my tea today so I don't need to worry about what to make - she's so nice and kind.
Sorry I'm wittering.
bye for now

zoejeanne · 11/02/2011 14:13

Beans you dark horse, you didn?t let on that you thought you might be clackered. Why bum to wanting 3? I?ve decided recently that I want 3, and I don?t even have 2 yet!

I have a picture in my mind now of a family gathering and Arti?s half bro passing some snaps round the table without saying a word, and everyone oohing and ahhing and saying things like ?what a lovely belt, and such an usual way to wear it?

LadyT I dare you to say that to your sister, it is funny! And your Mum is one of 10 Shock, her Mum must have been an amazing woman to have had all those babies, and her Dad must have the patience of a saint to live with all those hormones. BTW, your DH wasn?t mentioned in your favourite ag newspaper. I was flicking through a well read copy of the Mail whilst enjoying my earlier coffee (I think it was yesterdays) and in some questions page someone had written in about a place mentioned in his book. There was a lovely picture of him alongside. I've just tried to find it on their website to link it for you, but haven?t got anywhere

What a relief to see a sensible Dr, Jam. I would refuse to see the previous one again. Are they at the same practise?

Jump your nursery meeting sounds reassuring, I like that they are talking about treating her behaviour individually, rather than using a blanket approach for all

Apart from the rattling of the keyboard, the house is completely silent ... such bliss

zoejeanne · 11/02/2011 14:18

Crossed with Trace there. Good luck with the house, it is beautiful. The village life there sounds lovely, rather like my village, so I'm sure you'll be made very welcome. The Disappointingly Slack Mr ZJ (Grin I love it) is The Slack But Responds To Nagging Mr ZJ now, as some beautiful flowers have arrived (still no card though)

Rubena · 11/02/2011 14:26

Beans / Kiwi I would love to see you! DH has a 'do' to go to in London which I thought was at 2 and then he said 5 however he just said that he deicided to not meet them until 5 as he couldn't keep up with the "all afternoon Aussie drinking thing" (they are Aussie's he's meeting)Hmm However he has just said he would still go in if I had something to do as he just didn't want to piss off early on a Saturday if I was at home doing nothing (how very nice of him Smile Anyway it would work well as instead of me taking him to our local station I could drop him almost there if I could arrive mid afternoon! Say around 2-230? I have asked him and he has said he would totally ride his bike to the station if I wanted the car earlier but it's I think its a bit silly as he then has to get it back after drinking. I could probably make it to Streatham by 2 I reckon? I will put ds down for a nap straight after swimming and then leave around 130 as I think it's just half an hour or so? let me know if that works Beans / Kiwi?
Right this has taken an age to type as dd being squirmy and demanding attention Hmm

Rubena · 11/02/2011 14:31

Holy heck - 3 Beans?? Good God

Oh and ZJ so glad to hear about the flowers Grin

Trace, v exciting about the house! our house here was valued for us to buy and they sent 3 around - that's the norm I guess, but one was really odd and asked us "how much the others had said it was worth" what a dick! It must have been his first day!

Beans33 · 11/02/2011 16:17

2ish is fine for me, Rubes. Kiwi?
Sybs, are you around at all too? Sorry to be brief, am mid-tea with friend. She's gone for pee!
Xx
