New thread for our little handfuls!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skorpion · 26/04/2011 15:06

Oh dear, MsI, really hope you have some positive news soon. Poor mite, sorry she has to go through all this.
Hope you are feeling better yourself.

PavlovtheCat · 26/04/2011 16:40

MsI oh poor Roo Sad and poor you! I really hope they can get the infection under control so she doesn't need another op. It must be horrible for you all.

big loving un-mumsnetty hugs to you all, thinking of you x

wook · 26/04/2011 18:37

Oh my MsI that sounds absolutely horrendous for you and for Roo, all best wishes and fingers crossed she won't need a further op. Are you feeling better or still sick?

scarlotti · 26/04/2011 20:00

MsI Hope that Roo is on the mend now and that you and DH are coping ok with all of this. Very stressful when babies are very poorly and hospital stays are needed. Thinking of you all x

longwayaway · 26/04/2011 23:16

MsI So sorry Roo had to go in for surgery, what a nightmare... hope she feels better quickly and you can put all this behind you.

Had my own nightmare this morning - M fell down our stairs at home, a full flight :( :( :( I feel horrible!!! She was fine afterwards - I picked her up and after a bit of screaming (on both our parts) she asked for her pacifier, then went back to playing. She seems 100% her normal, cheerful self. I haven't noticed any of the concussion warning signs I've read about. Called the doctor and the receptionist said someone would call back but no one has yet. Ugh, so sick thinking about it. Poor baby. She's so confident these days, it totally lulled me into a false sense of security. No more of that.

wook · 26/04/2011 23:25

longwayaway When I was pg with H, my son fell down the stairs- it was absolutely hideous, I feel for you and know just what you mean about both screaming, ds and I just sat at the foot of the stairs howling for ages!

PavlovtheCat · 27/04/2011 10:34

longwayaway oh no that must have been very scary! DS fell down half flight, into plasterboard wall, which is very light and made a horrendous sound. DH was absolutely beside himself and was afraid to look! so was DD as she was playing chase with him. DS was absolutely fine, a bruise on his forehead and nothing else, but was shocked for a short while. Now he does not like coming down the stairs on his own and calls for us (good), know what you mean about false sense of security, they do so well you forget they are still very young.

sleep. Shock 13.3 hours. Yes, you heard that right. 13.3 hours. DB went home last night, train at 6pm, kids had a late night the night before so I got them fed and ready for bed before we went to station for 5:45pm. Roo was asleep by the time we got there at 5:40pm, slept the entire time I said goodbye, straight into cot and only a slight wakening as I brought him in, straight through til 6:55am this morning. There is a chance he was awake for a while in his cot as he looked awake when I heard him, but no idea how long, certainly no more than 30 mins, so that is still almost 13 hours even if awake. He called for us 'diddlediddlemama?' and he has just eaten 2 yoghurts for a snack.

And he is in a WONDERFUL mood. DH is poorly today so I have taken day off to look after him, DD is back at school, it is nice to spend time with him, think he is enjoying it too, some him time without sharing. Not that he did not enjoy time with DD, he loved the last week and half with us all around.

Oh and he has learnt a new word! tractor! he says 'datda' while pointing to one. funny that everything seems to be either a variation of diddle or dada! He has also learnt to squeal, in an absolutely ear shattering pitch! which he does when he is excited or wants attention, or when he just wants to practice it. DD never was able to squeal, so we have not ever had the earpeircing noise, not til she developed a higher volume of shouting, so it is novel for us! and very very loud!

skorpion · 27/04/2011 14:49

Longway, hope she's OK and you don't feel too bad. Lucy fell off our very high bed. Twice. Horrid when it happens, that sinking feeling... They do seem to be very bouncy at this stage, though. She has just started climbing up our stairs. There are 13 of them. I forgot to clost the bottom gate the other day and DH caught her half way up...

She is walking, people! I had to do a double take yesterday morning, as she was just making her way over to me quietly. Then spent half the day stalking her with a camera to get some footage. She does this very funny thing: walks OK when nobody's looking but as soon as she sees us making a fuss she looks like she's embarrased and gets down on her bottom.

On another hand she has started to exhibit a streak for thuggery. Went to visit a friend and her three DDs this morning and was very Blushed at the stroppy attitude. She even tried swatting the girls on their faces. She does that to me and DH sometimes and we just tell her no in a stern voice and put her down on the floor amd leave her if she repeats it. But I wasn't really sure how to deal with her in company. All I did was just move her away every time. She didn't appear to get the message...

MsI, hope Rosa is feeling better today.

ursigurke · 27/04/2011 15:14

MsI, I hope Rosa is much better and you didn't need the second OP. It must be terrible for you but at least you are in good hands now.

longway, it really is a miracle how they fall down stairs and are fine afterwards. It must have been so scary for you.

pavlov, wow, so there is actually hope? Well I shouldn't complain, things are definitely improving over here.

Speechwise Paula is doing really great, that seems to be her strong point. And she has just picked up some English words too. Well, there has been bye-bye since a while but since two days, she has two other English words and the winners are .... "more" and "no".... I wonder what that says about her Wink I'm not entirely sure if she knows what they mean though. At least they seem to sound funny, she keeps saying them, especially no.
Oh, and she is really good at imitating, so she heard once a child on the playground shouting for her mummy and now she occasionally calls me mummy instead of Mama... and even worse she copies DH and how he calls me (just a nickname from my name though, luckily no pet name)

Fruitpastels · 27/04/2011 19:22

MsI what an awful time it's been for you and Rosa. Wishing her better very soon. Hope you are also on the mend.

Longway it's so scary. Glad to hear all is fine but very upsetting for you.

DontWorryBaby · 27/04/2011 22:54

MsI How awful! Poor Rosa. Sad Well done for coping without DH, I'd have been a mess! Hope Roo is improving and you're all home soon.

longway Hope M is doing ok after her accident. How frightening.

Waves to everyone else - posting from phone but will hopefully have a better catch up in the next day or two x

OP posts:
longwayaway · 27/04/2011 22:56

Thanks everyone for the sympathy. Stair gate is up all the time now. Glad we had a wakeup call before something serious happened.

Pav Well done Roo on the sleep! Long may it last.

skorpion Go Lucy, walk walk walk! I witnessed some thuggery here during M's first playdates, but thankfully after a few times and some gentle guidance she seemed to get the idea of playing nicely. M still swats us sometimes but seems to be gentler with company... Or maybe I'm just imagining it. It's tough.

Had my hair cut today for the first time in about a year! It feels amazing :)

Fruitpastels · 28/04/2011 13:09

skorpion, well done to Lucy! Pav, well done to Roo!

Longway your haircut must feel great! I went 5 months without a cut until last week! I felt like a new woman. I can't imagine how a year must feel.

scarlotti · 28/04/2011 20:34

Well done to the clever babies!!

longwayaway hope you're recovered from the shock, it is a dreadful thing to happen but do take heart in that they have very bendy bones at this age and for a while yet. Both DD and DS1 have fallen down the stairs so I do understand how you feel.

Well, we now pretty much get from 7pm - 6am most mornings which I have to say is a godsend. It does go a bit awry when he's teething or poorly but that is also getting less now. He cruised around the chair earlier and seems keener to get up and give it a go now, so I'm hoping for some steps fairly soon - he's 18 months in about a week so it's taken long enough!!

I am really enjoying this age - the joyous cries of mummy when I pick him up and the arms around my neck, then patting my face. The delight he gets in watching the cars go by out the window, trips to the park and playing on the slide in the garden where he can climb up now and then slides down on his own - it's all just so much fun!! This summer looks set to be a lot of fun for us all GrinGrin

Ninjacat · 29/04/2011 09:19

Just popping in to say hello.

MsI hope R is on the mend and that you are all coping ok.

Sorry I don't get to keep up with this thread I just don't know what happens to the day!

I think we could do with a meet up / overnight camp. I'm much better at face to face Smile

scarlotti · 29/04/2011 20:52

Ninja hello!! So lovely to see you - did you have a wonderful wedding? Your photos on fb are wonderful, you looked stunning Grin

A meet up sounds like a great idea!!

PavlovtheCat · 29/04/2011 21:09

ninja yey! newlywed! how you and your DH doing?!

I would be up for a camp, i think that would be great if others were up for it (or, am I too keen and maybe you were joking? Blush. I have been camping at a fab place with the option to rent the tent/camp kitchen all kitted out, maybe we could see if there is one like this central ish to every one, or at least easy to get to, would be able to have one camp kitchen and everyone else set tents up around it, means we had somewhere to sit drink wine. A meadow for the kids to run and can play rounders and oh it would be great!

MsI i hope your Roo is ok, thinking of you x

ursi alas it is a one off! Although he sleeps through from 7pm -6am much more now, often wakes up twice but settles himself, and has had a couple of nights of non waking but early ish starts. So it is on the up. There is hope!

skorpion well done on the walking!!!! be very prepared to walk very slowly on any journeys, or tears if picked up! Roo in particular likes jumping in drain covers Confused, all those lovely things to see and he enjoys doing a dance on drain covers!

wook · 30/04/2011 09:22

Loads of lovely campsites round here though far from central! Kelling Heath is apparently a fab family campsite, Waxham Sands, etc etc.

Ninja your wedding dress was gorgeous and it looked as if there was a really good atmosphere

MsI thinking of you and Roo

Butterpiecrimearea · 30/04/2011 09:34

Ooh, look, I thought this thread had stopped!

Hi all!

MsInterpret · 30/04/2011 16:05

Hi everyone,

We're still in hospital Sad. They decided to let the antibiotics take care of the remaining infection instead of another operation but they are not working as quickly as they'd hoped, plus she's had ongoing issues with the needle in her hands/arms... Yesterday the ENT team said 24hrs without a fever would show the infection was going and when she didn't have a temp all last night I got excited, thinking we might be leaving on Sunday, but this morning another ENT doc said 48hrs without a temp before he would discharge her.

And then her temperature was 38.3 when they next took it. So we are in til heaven knows when, I don't want to speculate.

Thanks so much for all your thoughts and wishes and un-MNetty hugs. It was lovely to come on and read them.

wook · 30/04/2011 20:46

What a pain MsI. Poor you and dh and poor old Roo.
Dh had an op on his lung years ago and then caught an infection in his liver, courtesy of the hospital- went on for days, life was all on hold- can't imagine being in the same position with a lively toddler, horrible for you all. Hope it resolves itself soon.

JuicyLips · 30/04/2011 22:40

Oh no MsI I woke up last night in the middle of the night wondering how you and Roo were and whether you were still stuck in hospital, tis horrible when they're ill and also that you both have to stay in hospital and from my own experience its hard not knowing how long you'll be in there and not being told what the next move is, just seems like endless waiting when you just want your baby well and home.

The needles in arms and hands is heartbreaking, knowing that they need to have them done to make them better but at the same time having to watch your baby in pain. A hated having them put in and would scream and writhe as they tried to do it and we would all end up in tears. Sending you both the biggest hugs and well wishes. Hope she recovers quickly so you can all go home and get back to normal home life.

PavlovtheCat · 01/05/2011 07:52

oh no MsI Sad poor Roo. You must be so fed up and worried. I really hope her fever breaks soon and you can come home to some normality. Are you staying in the hospital with her or going in each day to visit? Sending lots of positive vibes to you and Roo, and you DH of course too xx

My Roo has learnt a new word 'uh-ooh' which he has said for a week or so, but now realises it has good emphasis when something is not right and he now says it ALL the time! either that or 'oop' when he drops something! He watched wallis and grommet last night (after falling asleep in his dinner and then not going to bed on time as messed his routine up) and he spent the whole time glued to the tv going 'uh-ooh'! so funny!

ursigurke · 01/05/2011 12:47

MsI, sending you lots of positive vibes. I really hope she will be better soon. It must be terrible for you to see her like this but I'm sure you will be soon home and she will have forgotten it quickly.

scarlotti · 01/05/2011 19:50

MsI hope Roo is better soon and you're coping ok with it all.

Pav we have uh-oh every time he drops something! He is also following his brother and being interested in all things vehicular - we now have bus, van, taxi, car and lorry in the vocabulary - he stands on the chest of drawers looking out the velux in his room and names them all as they go by!!
