Thought we should have a post-natal thread so we can stay together from our ante-natal one. Technically, DD was a December baby after coming early on new years eve; hope you don't mind if I stay with the January group after all this time. How is everyone doing?

Hello all,
How is everyone and of course the babies?

DS had his first molar break through this week first time hes been really grumpy with teething so wasnt much fun, hes now also got an exacerbation of his asthma due to the cold weather so all a bit mad here.

Still only taking about 6 steps and our only word is car. Having progress with feeding himself though as hes now learnt to use a fork which is quite exciting. Finding him very fun to be with at the moment, hes constantly learning and copying everything I do so making life very funny.

Hope everyone had a lovely valentines day!

CadleCap · 19/02/2012 09:28

DD decided that last Friday (10th Feb) she was going to walk. Can't bloody stop her now!

pink I know what you mean about copying. DD leaned over yesterday, stole a chip from my plate and ate it - not before she dipped it in my tomato ketchup though! Grin

WalkTheDog · 21/02/2012 00:07

pelvic did your DS have rubella? I read when you posted but didn't have time to reply and am only just back!

ha ha Cadlelaughing at your son thinking you are all off to Libya. Hlad your DD is enjoying her legs.

Why is it they only copy certain things, like DH put his hand on the oven door to see how hot it got, and DD came stomping (she is a very loud walker) along and did the same thing - luckily it wasn't hot.

Pink did you get a metal fork or is it a plastic one. I am finding the ones DD have are pretty useless, they really are more like sporks.

DD is finally getting her next two top teeth, thought we were stuck at 4! They are coming in with a lot less problems that the others.

She called her daddy "dumb" the other day, we were in the car and he said something (can't remember but it was a bit stupid), I had ignored him, but DD very clearly said dumb. Funny, we don't say it and she doesn't say any words that sound like it either. My DH knows already he has had it living with three females (dog is the third).

My SIL went back to work last week, and already my nephew is going to have to go to my folks for the day, he has conjunctivits (caught at the nursery) and they won't let him back until it clears up. My mum is out so it'll my mostly granda daycare.

blanchedevereaux · 23/02/2012 20:34

Hi guys,

Sorry for being away so long. Lovely to catch up with all your stories. DD2 here isn't even thinking about cruising yet, let alone walking. She only started crawling just before 12 months. She'll get going when she is ready.

I've had a terrible time of it with illness. Started with a stomach bug we all got round about DD2's birthday, but where it lasted 24-48 hours for everyone else I have had pretty much constant d and v for a month. I spent 2 weeks in bed.

Long story short, I'm on 2nd course of antibiotics and it is looking increasingly likely I have coeliac disease. My identical twin has it, so I knew there was about a 95% chance I would develop it at some point in my life but was hoping it would be decades away! Pretty down about it all but if I need to deal with it, I'll have to just get on with it! Just hope the kids never get it.

Cadle, good luck with the big move!

CadleCap · 25/02/2012 08:49

blanche Sad about coeliac, at least gluten free stuff is easier to get these days (if ridiculously expensive)

DD has a sickness virus. She's been throwing up since Monday. Doctor siad 7 to 10 days to clear. She has lost so much weight and she didn't have a lot of fat on her to loose in the first place. All she wants is cuddled.

17 days to go!!!

pinkbuttons · 29/02/2012 19:38

Sorry to hear you've been ill blanche hope things are getting easier for you know

and also about ur DD being ill cadle hope shes feeling a bit better

I also have a sick child DS woke up this morning with 3 spots on his back and throughout the day has developed about 20 so pretty sure we have the dreaded chicken pox. Luckily after tomorrow Ive got a weeks leave so he managed to time it quite well but still rubbish, better to get them early though as everyone keeps telling me.

Hope everyones getting on ok and all other babies arent poorly too!!

CadleCap · 05/03/2012 20:07

A week today we leave the UK!!

CadleCap · 08/03/2012 10:25

MMR jab yesterday. DD NOT happy about that!

She is also teething and is making sure EVERYONE feels her pain.

Bless. Let's hope she not going to be that kid who screams all the way through the flight!

readyornot2011 · 09/03/2012 18:48

Hello Ladies,

Lovely to catch up on all your news. No walking here yet either, she cruises all day long on the furniture but if DH or I try and hold her hands and encourage her to walk she gets in a flap and sits down.

CC we too had the MMR this week, she has been pretty grizzly but she's def. teething so hard to tell whether the MMR is bothering her to. The innjection site is pretty swolen and hard and obviously tender to the touch though, is that normal?

Don't know what it is about this thread but turns out we are also emigrating, not so drastic (brave) as CC though, just to France. DH is being transferred out there. Means I'm giving up work fully now (went back 3 days) which I have very mixed feelings about. Not that I love work, but I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a SAHM... in France! Any ideas what I could do out there? My french is appalling but we have 'Rosetta Stone' and I'm doing a bit every day. Went out last weekend for a reccy and worked out which areas we like, based just north of Paris. Very exciting and daunting all at once.

NCT sale tomorrow, better sharpen my elbows in preparation Grin

blanchedevereaux · 20/03/2012 13:57

So, Cadle, did you make it to the other side of the world?

Ready - could you look for work that you could do from home for a UK company? Could you take your work with you? It will be a struggle until you pick the language up. Does your DH's work provide lessons?

I'm off for an endoscopy and colonoscopy this week to see if I have coeliac disease. Not looking forward to it but will be good to know what it is that is bothering me.

DD2 is just beginning to pull herself up on the furniture. She has a terrible temper if she doesn't get what she wants - usually whatever toy DD1 is playing with. I seem to spend the day pulling her away from DD1's toys.

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 22/03/2012 20:55

Walk - we still don't know about the rubella, the results weren't sent to us, but we'd been told they wouldn't arrive til far too late to be useful anyway, so I hadn't chased it up. I asked about it when I took DS2 for his injections and there's no result on his notes either. The nurse said she'd ask about it but it doesn't seem very relevant now!

Cadle - hope you made it ok with not too much screaming.

Blanche - good luck with the endoscopy, at least if they find out it is coeliac you will be able to do something about it and should start feeling better soon.

Pink - hope the chicken pox wasn't too grim, we had it before and during Christmas. At least once it's out the way you shouldn't have to think about it again.

Ready - very exciting you're emigrating too, even if you're still working on your French your DD will probably be completely bilingual as soon as she learns to talk - amazing experience for her!

DS2 is properly walking now, even managed his first toddling accident when he went head first into the sofa, missed all the cushions and hit the hard bit at the bottom. There was blood everywhere but no permanent damage, very scary at the time though.

I thought he was saying 'cat' the other day at a picture of a cat but he's saying it to everything now so I think it might be a variation of 'that', or possibly just a random noise. Confused

CadleCap · 21/04/2012 10:22

G'day Grin

Well after 12 weeks of sofa surfing with various family members (not easy with a 4 and 1 yo)we finally have somewhere we can call home.

We were going to go to Adelaide, but decided to stay in Melbourne as my sister is just down the road so it is a bit of back up.

We have been STAGGERED by the generosity of Aussies - we have been given fridge/freezer, microwave, cutlery, kids toys and clothes coffee table etc - it is a seriously long list. Today the guy that fixed the fence delivered up a 1 year old superking size bed as he fely sorry for us with a matress on the floor. He point blank refused and cash.

Ds is picking up the accent already. DD saying a few things cat, dog, bird, shoes etc but refuses to repeat it once she's said it so I'm not sure if it is a fluke or no.

ready at least we don't have a language barrier, makes life a lot easier

CadleCrap · 08/05/2012 12:24

:(

I want to hear about our babies but no one is posting.

DD is sleeping through the night but for only about 30 mins during the day. She has 7 teeth. She is beautiful.

pinkbuttons · 11/05/2012 07:47

It has gone very quiet on here hasnt it.

DS sleeps through most nights although were finally getting a few more teeth through atm so not so much, Think we have about 8 teeth now but they all seem to come through in 4's poor boy.

Running around alot and getting about 3 accident forms a week from nursery... Just constantly climbing on everything. They are always very apologetic and I may be angry if I didnt know how fast he was at home to do it. Hard work!!

Still gorgeous though :)

No talking though... anyone else?

sarrita · 16/05/2012 11:30

Hello everyone* waves *.

Just checked in after forever.

DD is a delight - if occasionally a violent one.

Walking well (14 months) same week she got her first tooth. She feeds herself. Has a couple of words that she doesn't use. She just says "nana nana nana" when she wants something, so this has become her pet name.

But lots of singing. She sings "twinkle twinkle" with actions, "baa baa black sheep" that does actually sound different to "twinkle twinkle", "wind the bobbin up" and the "Hallo" song that we always sing at Rhyme Time etc.

Cadle glad to hear she is beautiful. And the move went well. We still haven't moved to Canada. One day I guess. But DS starts school in August so we really should get a move on.

Pink weeee a fast one. Great work out for you and the nursery by all account. DD has many less words that DS at the same age. Think it's the first child syndrome.

Blanche hope you don't coeliac disease.

Ready are you in France yet?

CadleCrap · 20/05/2012 10:30

We have a few words here - but DD refuses to repeat them on demand. No singing though - sounds lovely Sarrita. How is DH by the way?

WalkTheDog · 07/06/2012 03:19

hi
I keep meaning to pop over and hear how all you and your LOs are.

cadle Melbourne is my favourite city in Oz that I have been to. I thought it had such a great vibe. Glad everyone is being so helpful.

pink yikes with all the accident forms. DD is a bit of a daredevil so sure we would be get plenty too.

sarrita wow first tooth at 14 months bet she was glad she could finally chomp

Still have ongoing sleep issues here DD awake from 730/8 until 10/1030 with either a 30 or 90 min nap. This girl just doesn't need much sleep. She takes 45-60min to settle and needs me next to her. Have had a huge breakthrough in the last two weeks that she sleeps until 3/330am (she is unsettled after that) and I can leave the room with less lchance of her wakening.

She is talking loads (we counted over 150words that she uses correctly) and has started putting two together for a few things. She chooses to run rather than walk. She seems to be a bit of a comedian, likes to do something silly and then say "funny", and is a daredevil - jumping off/climbing... Yesterday she did something a bit risky and then said "careful" - daddy is always telling her that, he is a worrier, I personally don't like or see the point in that word, but anyway it makes him feel better. She has her moments but generally is a very happy girl.

My periods finally returned last week, mother nature thinking we are ready for no 2, but we aren't yet. We love being parents but if I have another rotten pg it will be very tough with such a non sleeper. And having two non sleepers if baby 2 were simialr to DD, yikes, but I am very sure we will start trying sooner rather than later, but possibly once DD nearer 2.

CadleCrap · 10/06/2012 13:25

Walk Yeah! someone else is here!! Well done on the bf front! Awful about the sleeping. DD isn't much of a napper (DS had 2 good sleeps aday until 2 and even now ,age 4 he occasionally has a nap). DD just wants to know what is going on (nosey) and my god is she a light sleeper. She'll have 45 mins during the day but she will go from 7(ish) to 7(ish) two out of three nights. You must be knackered.Sad

DD doesn't have many words but all she needs is a point, a whine and a big brother who totally gets what she wants. They are sharing a bed room at the moment and they woke up at 6.45am but DS shared his (big duplo) lego with her(handing her bits in her cot) and I didn't need to get out of bed til 7.45 Grinl

beatofthedrum · 10/06/2012 20:30

Hello! Our thread's back up and running! Nice to see the old familiar names and hear the news. Wow Cadle, you must have a totally different life from last time I posted here. Very glad it's all going so well.

Things are lovely here. Loving this age so much. Ds is just such a happy, jolly little person, spends his days in fits of giggles and dances in front of the speaker in silence until we put music on for him! He only has a few words (vital things like 'quack quack', 'woof woof', 'bye bye' :)) but is running and climbing and generally being terrifying a lot of the time...

Can't believe your little one's speech walk, that is supersonic! Sorry you're still having disturbed nights but sounds like she might just have a very busy brain!! Ds conks out much easier than dd ever did but I still can't take it for granted, the memory of a bad sleeper never leaves you Wink.

I actually don't feel sad about my baby growing up as he just keeps getting funnier and I am loving the companionship between him and dd. In many ways I find having 2 easier, as they entertain each other and I can mumsnet do useful things :)!

Does anyone else have a chunky monkey?? Ds is a little fat pudding!

pinkbuttons · 12/06/2012 11:53

Hi all,
Lovely to hear all your news. Amazed at your DDs speech walk thats incredible!! Still no words here apart from mama wen he wants something. and uh oh wen he does something wrong. Sounds hard with the sleep though you must be exhausted!

DS is still an overly good sleeper during the day would happily have 2 2 hr naps in the day and still sleep for 14 hrs at night with 1 wake up about 5. But is becoming a bit easier to deal with now, as used to stop us doing anything during the day now he can cope with just 2 hours of a nap in the middle of the day, becomes a terror about 6 o clock though because hes exhausted.

Apart from that all is good. Weve had our first few grazed knees and bloody cuts which scared the life out of me the first time he came up to me at the park not crying at all and jst had blood running down both his legs. He is a nightmare in that sense he jst runs everywhere and is a terror for climbing but hes enjoying himself and normally it doesnt lead to harm.

DS not chunky at the moment beat but we always know when hes about to have a growth spurt because he gets a second chin. very funny. He packs away the food though so if he wasnt so active he definitely would be. I miss him being so chunky or robust as we used to put it hes gone from looking like a baby to just looking like a little boy!

blanchedevereaux · 12/06/2012 16:17

Nice to see how everyone is doing! Lots of talkers and walkers - they are little people now.

DD2 is coming on 17 months and is still only taking about 4 or 5 steps. DD1 was up and off at 13 months so this takes a bit of getting used to. However, she will get there soon and I am resisiting the crap from the HV on it being "a bit abnormal".

She is a talker though - lots of words and actions (blowing on her food, etc) and she is constantly copying her big sister and us. Off on holiday next week so looking forward to having some quality time with them both - when we are at home it is constant diy or gardening!

I have coeliac disease as expected. In a period of mourning for some decent bread and need to arrange to get the kids tested. I'm asymptomatic so finding it hard to resist the kids pasta and biccies!

No plans for a number 3 here, just getting used to sleeping through the night fully!

beatofthedrum · 12/06/2012 17:50

Yay, pink and blanche, we're all heading back to this thread. Sounds like we've all got our hands full! Blanche, I've always heard they're talkers or walkers but tend to get engrossed with one skill over the other, don't know if is scientific but makes sense to me!?

WalkTheDog · 21/06/2012 23:07

cadle how cute to have a big brother to share his duplo so mummy can lie in a bit! Yep sometimes I still walk around in that newborn haze. The past week her naps have pretty much gone, but it has meant that she is actually tired come 8pm and most nights has crashed quickly (yeh). But she has gone back to wakening up almost every 2hours. We will get there.

beat laughing at your DS dancing until the music comes on - I hope you get that taped. DD seems to be sliming, no idea what she weighs, last time was 6mths ago.

oh pink your poor DS cuts. Sure we will have our first blood soon. DD is a climber too and such a daredevil. Her latest trick is to stand on her ride on and wobble it. Daddy freaks, but I argue that she needs to learn, and as long as we are nearby and she has a clear fall zone then we should leave her too it.

blanche one of the mums I know, her first DD walked at 11 months and the second was almost 2. I'd find the diet change tough. I looked at some alternative pastas for DD when she started eating and was shocked that it contain shellfish and some other things. Hope you find some good alternatives, at least your sis can help. Enjoy your holiday.

We had such a cute thing happen today, we had been swimming and were chatting to the reception on the way out, a wee boy (he would be early 2) who had been in the pool (but we don't know him), was almost out the door, then he rushed back and gave my DD a huge hug and held it for ages. Luath was slightly bemused! Absolutely gorgeous image of the two of them.

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 23/06/2012 22:29

Hello again, glad to see this thread is back up and running, I thought everyone had given it up! Lovely to catch up on all the news.

DS2 is a bit of a terror, he's into everything and a climber. We've had to do lots of babyproofing (we never got round to it with DS1) and he encourages DS1 to climb things with him, he's a bad influence!

My (totally unscientific) theory is the less they sleep, the earlier they walk and talk. DS2 is also talking a lot, particular focus on food items and 'more'. Smile I don't know what he weighs but he's managing to remain fairly chunky so far.

Sleep is still pretty bad here, the couple of nights when DS2 has had a long unbroken stretch, DS1 has woken up. I did think DS2 was starting to improve a lot but he's regressed again, he's had a cold for ages and I think a few more teeth are about to break through, back to lots of night waking and unsettled evenings.

Despite the lack of sleep and the moments of terror, DS2 is great to have about. His favourite baby book is one with wave, smile, hug, kiss pictures and words - he does all the actions along with it and it's the cutest thing to see. I'm also loving it now both DSs can play together a bit, the sound of them both laughing together is my favourite thing ever! Grin

Blanche - sorry to hear about the coeliac, if you do want any gluten free cake recipes, my mum makes lovely cakes so I can pass any on.

CadleCrap · 27/06/2012 11:26

DD amazed me the other day - she held a pen properly and drew little spirals!

I am trying to "walk" her for at least 30 mins a day in an attempt to wear her out. She just keeps going and going and going!
