Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sybilvimes · 14/03/2011 12:20

Really sorry to hear you are leaving Spider I hope you will reconsider as you will be missed.

I am cautiously beginning to believe that spring may have arrived. Suddenly today the trees are full of blossom on the way to school. It looks so pretty it actually put a smile on my face.

I think dewin is having a boy, around 6.5 lbs with dark hair. I am normally worng about these things though!

abdnhiker · 14/03/2011 20:17

Spider - you'll be missed but I can understand.

Systems - sounds like c is ready!

Sybil - we've had snow over the weekend. Spring seems to have disappeared!

I'm trying desperately to atop snacking in the evenings so I think I'm going to go to bed early. we've gotten in the habit of having treats after the kids are in bed and it's lovely but I'm starting to think it's a very bad habit, especially with the fact that I ate a whole bag of mini eggs at work today. Blush

DebInTheDales · 15/03/2011 09:48

Spider, keep in touch won't you?

Abdn - we always have a treat when the boys get to bed!!

neenz · 15/03/2011 16:26

Hey Spider, not sure if there is something going on that I don't know about... but sorry to see you go. Hope you will come back - I think we could all do with an MN break sometimes!

I am feeling pretty rotten - I scoffed at Daniel last week for having 'man flu' (doc said it was just a cold but he was very miserable) - now I have it and I am miserable too! Very sore throat and just feeling yuk. Coinciding with Daniel sleeping badly Sad. Very tired and feeling sorry for myself. And now I think the twins have it too (although Daniel is better Smile). I tried doing cc with him on Saturday night cos he woke at midnight and I'd only fed him at 10pm... two hours of crying later Sad and I gave in and fed him. The little bugger only had a couple of mins then went back in his cot wide awake but went back to sleep on his own Hmm. He had a smile on his face saying 'I win mummy' Wink Needless to say I am not trying that again for a while! He only woke once last night though which is much better but I am struggling to get back to sleep after middle of the night feeds atm so I am worn out Sad. Fireman Sam has been doing lots of babysitting today...

neenz · 15/03/2011 16:32

Actually it is not Daniel sleeping badly, it is just me! Most of last week he went from 10pm to 4.30am Smile - but I lay awake for an hour afterwards struggling to get back to sleep. Angry. And then the twins are up at 7 (if we are lucky). So I am shattered, no wonder I am ill...

But I have a friend who is 32wks pg and she has just found out she has too much amniotic fluid - they think there might be something wrong with the baby but she has to wait till Fri for more tests (don't know the full details cos I only spoke to her sister). I really hope it is nothing but it makes you realise how lucky you are to have your babies safe and well (no matter how little sleep you are getting)

going · 15/03/2011 19:46

neenz Fingers crossed your friends excess fluid is not a sign of anything dangerous. I had it with Ds and a cause was never found and thnakfully he was okay. The dr I saw did however scare me like crazy about the labour, however everything was straight forward. It's really not wise to google what could happen either!!!
Hope you get some more sleep and feel better soon!

neenz · 15/03/2011 20:52

Thanks Going - I am really hoping it is just one of those things, would be devastating if something goes wrong Sad.

Amberc · 16/03/2011 21:30

systems - well done on the progress with potty training! I think that's a fab sign that it won't take long and will be pretty painless. We are making leaps and bounds at the moment. Startin on Monday just gone I decided to send Luke to nursery in pants with a load of spare clothes. We had 3 accidents on MOnday, two on Tuesday and 1 today and all not until after 4pm so I'm really chuffed. It has been with much much bribery but worth it. Luke will not go on the toilet at home though but does go on the little toilets at nursery. Hoping that there will be no accidents soon as we have a deadline for the pre school! Luke did come into me this morning covered in poo where he'd done it in his nappy (nappies at night) and then taken it off and touched it and then touched everything else. That was fun cleaning it all off at 5.50am after having zero sleep!

Aberdeen - I am also snacking but I just need the energy so I don't really care at the mo. Whatever it takes to get through the day.

Neenz - so feeling your pain! Both girls and Luke have colds. Isabella has it the worst and can hardly breathe. I cannot wait until they start mouth breathing - anyone know when that is? It's Luke all over again I'm afraid and I think they also might have his nose problems. Unfortunately neither of them has inherited my big schnoz whoch may not look so great but means I can breathe fine with the most hideous of colds! Hope you and they feel better soon Neenz.

I have heard too much amniotic fluid - it's poly something. They thought I might have when I always measured so big with Luke. I think the worst symptom is going into labour early but I'm not sure if there are any others. Hope all is OK.

Spider - sorry if it was my comment which drove you to quit. As Aberdeen said, I'm knackered and probably oversensitive.

EenyMeenyMaya · 17/03/2011 00:43

Spider - Gutted to see you go. Really hope you'll come back, although a break from MN can be a good thing.

I've just discovered the feminist section and it is great! I need to step away now or I will have very neglected children.

Abdn - I have the same snacking habit. I'm trying to replace the choc/crisps with cups of tea, but keep thinking how nice it would be to have a biscuit with my cuppa. I'm gonna try Neenz's plan of three meals and fruit only for snacks. Sounds eminently sensible and do-able.

Amber - How are the twins doing weightwise? F is a 25th percentile chap, which seem so small when he shares his birthday with an off the chart boy. (F=10lb, other baby=15lbs).

Neenz - get well soon.

Amberc · 17/03/2011 10:27

Dunno how much the babies weigh at the mo. Last weigh was 1 March and Isabella was 4.2kg (9.3b) and Madeleine was 4.56 (10.1lb). I couldn't give a monkeys about ewight this time round though.

I had the night nanny last night as I have had only 4 hours night sleep in the last 3 days. Can you believe Luke was up all night long with an ear ache? I got 3 hours sleep last night. I can't believe it. I am on the verge of tears I am so tired and I have the night to do again today with the NCT lot coming round for tea and cake. How to survive?

systemsaddict · 17/03/2011 10:52

Yes weight seems much less important second time round - I think Caitlin was only weighed about 3 times in total - Liam was weighed every week religiously! Grin

Glad Luke's doing well on the potty training front Amber, that must be a real weight off your mind. I can't believe C, she has gone in the space of 3 days from no weeing in potties at all to taking herself off to the bathroom on her own to do it ... and I can take absolutely no credit at all for this, as all I did was to avoid potty training her 'cos it seemed like too much hassle! Grin

I was rather persuaded by a comment Rolf made once, that she'd waited till hers took themselves off on their own before trying it. It is pretty late considering she met all her other milestones really early but I think on balance there is a lot to be said for being a lazy mummy! (Mind you, that wouldn't have worked for L who showed absolutely no interest at all till the age of three and a half - horses for courses I guess.)

systemsaddict · 17/03/2011 10:52

oh and sorry to hear about the lack of sleep too Amber - how to survive - I would be tempted to spend the day eating the cake that you have in for the NCT lot ...

Amberc · 17/03/2011 14:50

I have eaten 3 pieces of cake.

Amberc · 17/03/2011 14:57

Anyone (especially Neenz!) Medised used to be available to younger kids right? Is the formula the same now? Why did they make it for 6 year olds and over? It element to unstuff noses is an antihistamine isn't it? Does that mean I could use my children's antihistamine to unblock Luke's nose?

systemsaddict · 17/03/2011 15:43

Yes, it hasn't changed its formula but the licensing changed for all medicines with antihistamines in, as well as some other things, no longer recommended for children under 2. The details are in .pdf files from here which suggests there is a risk of potential harm from overdose with children under 2, and there have been "a few" serious cases of incidents in the US (5 deaths since 1981). They now recommend inhalants (Vicks, Olbas oil) and saline nose drops to help them breathe better, and simple cough medicines - glycerol, honey and lemon.

I used Medised happily with ds from 6 months for colds, up until the time I used it for a nasty cold and cough and it knocked him out so much he was struggling to breathe but still didn't wake up because he was so sleepy. Haven't touched it since, though it does work really well for a snotty cold.

systemsaddict · 17/03/2011 15:44

But, you should be able to get something with antihistamines for Luke, as he's over 2 - talk to a pharmacist?

neenz · 18/03/2011 13:46

I have used medised a couple of times for the twins during this cold and it does help with stuffy noses. Do you want to give Medised to Luke or is it a different antihistamine? The advice went from 3m+ to over 2s and now over 6s (over-reaction by the authorities alert Wink), i would give it to an over-2. I even gave it to Daniel (a small dose) a few weeks ago because I was desperate for him to sleep when he had a cold Blush.

Another pretty bad night from Daniel last night. Dream feed at 9.30pm, then he woke at 11.30 and 4.30 and then wouldn't go back to sleep! After 90 mins crying and trying to re-settle him, I brought him in with us and he went back to sleep. Then the twins woke at 6.30 Sad. I think it is his teeth - he has too massive lumps on his bottom front gum, bless him. Hoping for more rest this weekend cos i still have a cold too Sad

Amberc · 18/03/2011 14:01

I started another thread about medised - you should join Neenz! Nobody seems to know why it went up but my pharmacist said everything has including cough medicine etc.

Sorry to hear you had a crap night. How old is Daniel now? Are they his first teeth? Mine wasn't too bad actually. Madeleine seems to now sleep well (three nights in a row) and Isabella's nose wasn't too bad so she didn't grizzle all night like she has been. I think I got maybe 5 whole hours sleep!

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 20/03/2011 09:40

Morning all. Had a terrible fright yesterday. At my P's with DB, SIL and DN - lots of horseplay with DB and SIL chasing S and DN. S climbed up on my parents sofa and quick as a flash he was stood up but lost his balance and went flying over the side of the sofa. Thankfully he managed to land on a cushion on the floor, didn't catch his head on my parents clunky storage heater or land awkwardly on the pile of toys, die cast cars etc that had been 'tidied' away in the corner.

He got a real fright, but that may have come from my scream as he fell! It was quite a strange sensation - it wasn't that kind of heart in your mouth sensation that you get when they're little and about to fall over or you catch them climbing on something dangerous. Instead, it was a real blood-curdling scream that I think came from the very tip of my toes. All fine and well now though!

Good news on the potty self-training System Grin S had an eye watering poo on his potty yesterday so he's very pleased with himself. He's been very good at home, but more prone to accidents at nursery. That's normal right? All the excitement etc?

Amberc · 20/03/2011 12:38

Its funny as luke is much better at nursery than he is at home. We had a major poo accident yesterday and poor luke was very upset bless him. Sound like a lucky escape with the fall!

systemsaddict · 20/03/2011 13:52

urgh Keepcalm takes me back to when Caitlin climbed out of her cot head first and landed on her head on the floor, one of those awful moments you never forget. Glad he's OK!

We have had lots of similar near misses here though. Their current game involves lining up all the sofa cushions on the floor, then seeing how far they can jump from the arm of the chair. I let them do things like this 'cos it's all good sensory input for ds, he is supposed to benefit from lots of crashing around, but there is potential for disaster there too!!

neenz · 20/03/2011 15:31

Amber fantastic news on the sleep! Hopefully turned a corner there. When D was all bunged up a bit ago I stuffed loads of big teddies under one end of his mattress so it was really tilted a bit like a slide - so he was really propped up. more effective than just a couple of books under the leg. He did roll down a bit tho!

He slept through last night Grin. I dream-fed him at 11 and he went till 8am. Hopefully we have turned a corner too - but he was really snotty yesterday and he seems to sleep better when he is ill so maybe it was just that!

Esther is always falling off chairs right onto her head - in the kitchen too (slate floor). She just loves to climb on stuff and perch dangerously on the edge of chairs. Every time she falls she seems so surprised Hmm.

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 20/03/2011 15:51

I think I remember the falling on head incident System! Scary. It is amazing (thankfully) how much they bounce!

EenyMeenyMaya · 20/03/2011 23:51

Aaaarrrgggggghhhh. Need advice on potty training, whiny toddlers, clingy toddlers, routine for 10 week olds and how to stay sane through it all! Oh and what to take for agonising backpain when bf-ing.

In desperate need of a break as I have them both 24/7, I can't remember when I last left the house alone. Actually only left house once in last 5 days full stop!!! GPs too scared to take F and reluctant to take R whilst potty training, which I understand. Roll on June when R starts at kindegarten.

EenyMeenyMaya · 20/03/2011 23:51

Amber - piriton is avail for kids 2 and over.
