Shiny new thread for Christmas!

I think I'm going to get Diego the playmobil digger because he absolutely goes potty over it whenever we look at the catalogue (playmobile catalogue is his favourite piece of literature these days). Do you think it is a bit irresponsible given that it's for 4+?

Diego is at home today, after spending a feverish night. He's had a temperature, bad doggy cough and a runny nose. I'm knackered due to sleepless night and thinking hard of something else to do to entertain him, as he is rather clingy. We've done drawing, Ipad games, playing tents, made a house for his stuffed animals, etc. I'm ready for a nap myself! Any ideas?

Realisation: Making beds while very heavily pregnant is NOT fun.

Bec, I hope you are all feeling better!

ninjinglebells · 21/12/2010 14:00

Not irresponsible at all - I wish I'd got DD1 playmobil stuff, as long as you're careful not to lose all the little bits while he's so young.

Debs75 · 21/12/2010 14:30

Had a lovely day yesterday, went to a Sizzler pub for lunch and had their ginormous choctastic sundae for pud. I did share it with Robyn but there was a lot and I was full for the rest of the day.

Do your LO's 'get' christmas yet? Robyn likes all the christmas stuff .like tree, decs and snow but I don't think she is excited so not really knowing what is coming on Saturday.

DebiTheScot · 21/12/2010 20:57

Pacita, my ds2 is getting some playmobil for Christmas, I don't know what though. I'd lookd at the digger and suggested it as a good option though as it doesn't have many small bits. He loves the playmobil and the boys spend hours playing with it. His current favourite is the bin lorry.

Debs ds2 is exactly the same as Robyn about Christmas.

Megletitsnow · 21/12/2010 21:30

debi Last night I dreamt DS put my phone, ipod and camera down the toilet - I think I MN too much Confused. How is your phone now?

Pacita · 21/12/2010 21:43

LOL, Debi, Diego also loves bin lorries. He asks me to show him videos of bin lorries on youtube. He obviously has high aspirations.

I feel better about getting the digger now, and am glad you mention there aren't many big pieces.

Diego has been at home all day today with me because he's got a bit of a fever. We were both going stir crazy!

DebiTheScot · 21/12/2010 22:07

lol meglet. I dreamt about 2 of my school teachers the other night- I was telling them about how I'm an amazing teacher now Hmm
My phone is with 1 of those dodgy looking guys who have stalls in the shopping centre. The man from the 3 shop assured me he's not dodgy but I'll see when I go to pick it up tomorrow.

I just asked dh what we should have for starter on Christmas day. Somehting that ds2 will eat as he prob won't eat any of the main course. His ideas were- chips, scotch eggs, eggy bread, crisps...
Eventually decided on no starter but will do something like oatcakes with smoked salmon & cream cheese as a canape type thing before dinner.
Anyone else have a child who won't eat any christmas dinner? Do you have a plan for what to give them instead?

digitalgirl · 21/12/2010 23:41

debi prawn cocktail? Mozzarella, tomato & avocado? Parma ham & melon? Homemade garlic pesto bread?
Ds would eat all of the above (except the bread), but then he would also eat the turkey, chipolatas and potatoes from the main course too. Has gone right off green veg lately. Not too worried as he still eats fruit. But weirdly hates sweet root veg (sweet pots, carrots, squash, parsnips) which I though veg hating kids liked?

Haven't decided on what's for pudding yet - no Xmas pud fans in our house so have to rustle up something else that's also festive. Any one not doing Xmas pud? What are you doing instead?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 22/12/2010 09:22

We're not having a starter but will have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs about 11am and then eat lunch at 2/2.30.
C loves xmas dinner, so will have the full works but if DS2 won't eat Debs I'd do what DG says - make something a bit more special that he will eat, loving the idea of parma ham, cheese and tomatoes, then pop a bit of xmas dinner next to him in case he is inspired!

He'll eat pud too I'm sure! Xmas Grin

I hate xmas pud too so we're having an extra special sticky toffee pud with seriously good vanilla ice cream. Will probably eat it in the evening though and just have cheese after the main meal.
We're a bit strange as we don't like turkey either so have got a handplucked, free range estate chicken from our local farm estate for £18 gulp!!!!

DebiTheScot · 22/12/2010 09:58

We're having lamb on Christmas day (from M&S, came already prepped and with a sauce) with M&S cube roast tatties. It's just us 4 so we wanted something easy and with minimal prep. Then we're doing Christmas day again on the 27th with mil, fil and sil and are probably having duck (x2) as turkey's nothing special and they'll have had it on the 25th.

Believe it or not he probably won't eat pud! He'd rather just have a yoghurt! I think I'm going to do multicoloured jelly and ice cream and sprinkles for the kids.

We're just going to eat at about 5 ish.

For cmas dinner 2 I'm making a bricohe, raspberry and white chocolate pudding, very yummy.

Oh and dh has decided to put in for voluntary redundancy and if he gets it (would be very shocked if he doesn't seeing as he's in a group of 6 of which 3 are going to go when they make up their minds anyway) he'll accept the job.
He really likes the sound of the new job and it's always been 1 of the few companies round here he'd want to work for. And even if the interesting work comes in in his current job it'd only be 6 months worth at a time and then if there was a gap between 2 projects there would be a good chance of being put on 'at risk' again.

becaroodolf · 22/12/2010 10:56

hi all.

still ill, boys still ill so no change there Sad

we are having xmas dinner at 5 ish; oak smoked ham, 3 types of potato, veg, stuffing etc. dc will both eat all of it, except the meat.

have ordered a chocolate and hazlenut roulade for pudding - none of us like "tradiational" xmas food.

was going to have a baking day tomorrow an make lots of scrummy things but just feel too ill.

did an ocado order (the only place left that had slots!!) but am worried now it wont come as we have snow. sigh.

oh, and the oven broke last night Sad

might be sandwiches on xmas day!!!!

Debs75 · 22/12/2010 11:33

DD1 is having fish with roast potatoes for christmas dinner as she doesn't like turkey. We are all having turkey with roast potatoes, roast parsnips and roast carrots. Stuffing and gravy. For pud we have a christmas pud a chocolate one and a syrup one.
We eat at about 1ish as dp can't wait too long. For breakfast they all have a bowl of cereal ofr slice of toast.
God we will be nice and fat come boxing dayXmas Grin

*Bec shame about the oven, does the hob still work?

Robyn is sat in front of Lucy making her laugh by sticking her tongue out at her.

CappuccinoCarrie · 22/12/2010 13:15

pacita we gave DS the playmobil ambulance when he was 1, he loves it, although I"ve got a little pot to put all the tiny bits in when other children come to play because younger kids tend to just take the whole thing apart, and all they really want to play with is the ambulance itself, not the drip and leg cast!
bec so :( about the oven. We didn't have one for months while the extension was done, and the novelty of having one still hasn't worn off, but that was summer, I couldn't imagine not having one at christmas, you poor thing.
DS and DD will eat most of a christmas dinner, but bizarrely don't eat parsnips (even though they look like chips!) and they used to eat roast sweet potato, they now won't, which is odd because like someone said its really sweet. I think roast sweet potato might be my current favourite food Blush
We made the decision to drive down south yesterday. Seriously, what snow?!!! There was frost in the north, it was completely green from Doncaster to Peterborough, then it was a bit foggy, and we didn't see any snow til we were in Surrey within two miles of my parents house. But at least now if any snow falls I can feel smug that we've done our travel. DH brought his laptop so he's 'at work' today so he's not even had to use up any holiday allowance for us having come here two days earlier than planned.
We packed in a hurry but the only things I seem to have forgotten are the bibs, and FIL's birthday card.

Oven man coming later!!! going to cost god knows what but I need an oven!

We have got both dc some playmobil this year....the dumper truck and haulage plant and gthe playmobil 123 farm - think it will go down well Smile

Havent heard from ocado yet so hoping grocery delivery should still arrive this evening.

I do american style pancakes (blueberries optional) on xmas morning. Also pain au chocolat etc

Pacita · 22/12/2010 19:15

Hello all,

I had some good news today, which let me tell you, were welcome, as a) Diego is poorly, and feeling very sorry for himself whilst I'm a sleep deprived zombie, and b) we've just found a leak from the bathroom upstairs onto our kitchen. The joys of getting to know a new home :(

Anyway, went to the midwife and everything seems fine, except for she was not sure if the baby was still breech. It just felt quite bony all over, so she sent me for a scan right away. And, not only is she head down, but she is also engaged well into my pelvis (a second baby, engaged!). This explains the waddling on steroids and increased pee per hour ratio. then she told me off for not having packed my hospital bag.

Now I just need for my little one to get better in order to enjoy the (as yet throughly unprepared) Christmas. Am planning on roast pork at DP's request. Probably do roast loin of pork with prunes and apples with roast potatoes and parsnips and red cabbage with cloves. No idea about puddings. Anyone has suggestions for a good egg and nut free one?

Digi Diego has gone off vegetables too. I have to resort to increasingly crafty modes of disguising them. Today it was a veg risotto, with lots of parmesan and the veg cut into super thin cubes. The other winner is a bolognese with loads of very finely chopped veg. It's a pain though, to think that just a few months ago he ate broccoli "trees" as if they were going out of fashion...

Bec, here are health vibes for you, the DC and the oven!

notcitrus · 22/12/2010 20:21

Best wishes for your new oven Becaroo!

A will probably just giggle endearingly at his grandparents throughout the meal and possibly eat a stick of meat or some potato. And stuffing and sausage should go down well. And Christmas pudding, definitely.

My mum's bringing some snack-type starters - assuming my parents can get their car out of their lane!

I'll collect the turkey etc tomorrow after work - the butcher is open until 11pm! We usually get mince pies and mulled wine while queueing, too.

MrNC was worried neither of my presents had arrived. One came today - box with picture unwrapped except for address label, so now I and the whole street know what I'm getting! I did ask for it (mini hoover)!

One more day of work! A and I are very excited.

Megletitsnow · 23/12/2010 07:50

becaroo Hope the oven is fixed and the boys are on the mend.

pacita How long have you got left until baby is due?

digital How is your actupuncture going? Does it hurt? I've had it a couple of times in the past and it hurt far more than I expected it to.

becaroodolf · 23/12/2010 09:21

Oven fixed.

Groceries delivered.

Boys still coughing but seem ok in themselves...no temps this morning.

I still feel horrid Sad Have now got enlarged glands and ear ache!!! You know what? I think I may have had/have got swine flu....is it possible do you think?

Both dc going up to their GP today - as planned - and I was going to get so much done Sad Not looking likely now. Will just try to get some more washing and ironing done.

pacita Great news re babys position...you must be very relieved!

Feel like a very bad mummy at the moment...havent done a thing with the dc in 2 weeks Sad dh has a long break at xmas as his firm shuts down so hopefully we will all get to spend some quality time together Smile

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/12/2010 18:38

Hurrah for the oven and grocery delivery Bec.

Good news about the baby being head down pacita Smile

We're off the IL's for xmas day and my family on Boxing Day - how jammy is that?!! Xmas Grin

I've got the 3rd cold in a row and feel thoroughly pissed off about it. And there was me thinking a winter pregnancy would be better than waddling around in the hot summer Hmm. I didn't think it was possible for one person to produce so much snot - it's remarkable!

ninjinglebells · 24/12/2010 11:17

I've just found M behind the curtian - she normally goes there when she does a poo so I asked if she was and she replied 'No, I'm eating Chocolate!'

The little devil had found a chocolate decoration on the Christmas Tree (how did she know it was chocolate) and gone to hide and eat it. She's getting far too cheeky for her own good.

Yesterday she saw a mini chocolate roll wrapper in the bin and then when seraching round the kitchen to find the pack of them, and succeeded. Angry

Happy Christmas to all of you in case I don't make it on here again.

CappuccinoCarrie · 24/12/2010 13:45

Happy Christmas everyone!
Hope all sickness passes, all ILs behave themselves, and all DCs are cute as cute can be.

I think we just won the prize for most whingy toddlers at Church award Hmm. DD yelled "SNACK, MUMMY, SNACK" all the way through despite having an apple and jammy dodger to sustain her. I have a feeling it might be 2nd set of molars coming through so I've dosed her up with baby ibruprofen and she seems a lot happier, she was pretty dreadful yesterday too.

Get well soon to all the poorly people.

ninja I haven't dared to put chocs on the Xmas tree but DD just sussed out what a Pringle is.

Pacita · 24/12/2010 18:58

Merry Christmas everyone. It's just the three of us this year due to inability to fly to parents, and to parents refusal to come for Xmas due to imminent arrival of grand daughter (so they prefer to defer flying to Britain when she's actually here).

I have been horridly disorganised, and there are hardly any decorations. Diego has been feverish and ill and with the snow and what have you, we've not been out and deliveries have failed. So we have decided to follow the Greek tradition and do presents on new years eve.

Meglet I'm due on the 18th, so not long to go at all. I'm pretty fed up, but nowhere near ready yet (Have not even packed hospital bag Blush, so hope she's not too early).

Enjoy everyone!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 24/12/2010 19:58

Happy Christmas all. Hope things are nice and peaceful/festive/happy.
C has been (excuse my french) a real bugger today. Either she's learnt very early on that kids are expect to get hyper excited on xmas eve or she's just being rubbish.
She's reverted to babydom and thrown food, smeared food all over her fingers & toes and wacked the cat over the head.
I have run out of threats/coersion/just plain ignoring.

Hoping it's her teeth and tomorrow is another day. She's barely eaten a thing today.

DP has a terrible infected tooth abcess so is on painkillers and antibiotics and can't drink at all. I am now the sole drinker, which isn't much fun and I feel awful for him as xmas is the one time of year he can really relax and not worry about driving (we have family comine to us tomorrow and boxing day).

Sorry for the memememe post.

Merry Christmas all - it has to get better Xmas Grin
I am banned from mn tomorrow

splishsplosh · 24/12/2010 20:04

Happy Christmas everyone

Congratulations Carrie on your bfp

Hope number 2 hangs on a bit longer for you Pacita

there's probably lots more i should say but have lost track a bit

Yesterday we went to see Father Christmas - a reckless decision i ended up regretting! Spent 1.5hrs in the queue, with dd2 getting fed up near the end and roaring "GET ME OUT" very loudly and flinging herself sideways out of the buggy whilst kicking off wellies in fury. Then cried at the sight of F.C and would only approach very suspiciously to take the present and backed off quickly

Still no idea what we are eating tomorrow! It is just the 3 of us, I'm a vegetarian, neither of them like roast potatoes or yorkshire pudding or vegetables... but i refuse to provide the requested pasta and cheese!

Boxing day have my sister and niece coming round, so having a more "proper" meal then i think - though dd1 only wants baked beans with her chicken Hmm

dd2 has been ill with cold/flu/horrible cough for about 2 weeks though cheering up a bit now.

dd1 being quite challenging this week had big argument not long before bed and threatened to cancel Christmas Blush am fed up of being so shouty, must try deep breathing and counting to 1000 or something...

potty training! i can't even imagine. have just put one out, she did sit on it very enthusiastically and spring up shouting out that she'd done a poo - and held up a piece of puzzle triumphantly!

Also sits on it fully clothed and does noises as if she has constipation then announces she's pooed but hasn't really. So at least she knows what it's for but i'm not ready for it yet!
