Shiny new thread for Christmas!

Re periods - A wanders in when I'm on the loo (we've disabled the lock so he can't lock himself in), and recently pointed at sanitary towel and went 'Mummy pee! Mummy special pee!'
'Er, yeah' I said.

What do others do about bathroom locks? I just know dn is going to lock himself in soon and not figure out how to undo it. MrNC says just leave the window unlatched so I can get a ladder and climb in if necessary...Hmm

Debs75 · 15/12/2010 13:58

NC it depends on the lock. i locked myself in the bathroom when i was 3, was a key lock, and my dad went frantic. i was just pottering about and kept telling him I was fine and would be out soon. He did have reason to panic as I had got stuck halfway down the loo some months agoBlush. He threw the key in the fire so no more lock.

we have a privacy lock where you just flick a switch on one side but the other has a key. The key side is on the outside so you can't lock yourself in.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 15/12/2010 15:18

As C always comes into the loo with me (cling on toddler) and plonks herself on her little step and proudly announces 'mummy trump, mummy wee wee, mummy do stinky poo!' (oh the joy of motherhood), I suspect we won't have to worry about locks for a while. however all our bathrooms have an internal lock and on the outside, the plate has a groove in it which can be turned with a coin or screwdriver if the lock stuck inside. I think they are quite cheap and B&Q etc sell them if you were really concerned (does mean changing the door handle of course).

Tbh, I moan a bit but I'm quite keen that there are no secrets in the house and C feels able to ask me anything. DP and I still wander around in the nuddy (she pointed at DP's willy recently and said 'tickle, tickle') Xmas Grin

I think cos I had an abnormally secretive and mildly abusive mother, I'm determined to be open with C.
It's a long way off but I'm rather hoping she'll feel able to tell me when she loses her virginity (no details though!) or even would want me as her birth partner. My best friend's daughter did this with her as they are very close.

And Debs loving your tale of getting stuck in the loo Xmas Grin

Lovely pg hugs Carrie - glad all seems OK and hoping for vibes for me - am about to embark on the 2ww in the next day or so.

DebiTheScot · 15/12/2010 20:43

Rubbish day. Dropped my phone down the toilet and a kid was unbelievably rude to me. I have to teach him twice a week and he holds onto a grudge.

DS2 hasn't seen me on the loo with af but ds1 has. I've not managed any good answers to his questions other than that he doesn't have to worry about it.

DS2 calls his willy his tail!

Megletitsnow · 15/12/2010 21:19

I just lock the door when I go, not so much for privacy, but the room is small and the door bashes against my knees if the dc's run in and out. So it stays shut. They usually yell but I would be the one yelling if they were under my feet in the bathroom.

The lock can be undone from the outside with a coin / screwdriver so I've started to relax about DS fiddling with it.

debi Sad. Only a couple more days to go then you get a break. Hope your phone gets better and the naughty kid mellows out in time.

ninjinglebells · 15/12/2010 23:34

We don't have locks - must be fun for visitors Xmas Grin

CappuccinoCarrie · 16/12/2010 09:29

We have very high up locks that even my very tall 5yo godson can't reach, so visitors can have privacy!
mrsa relax and enjoy the festive season and your 2ww will fly by :)
Went to a baby shower last night, it was so nice to be able to really throw myself into it without feeling sad inside. And we all got a pampering treatment, my feet feel so good today! Will of course wreck it with the walk to toddlers in my wellies Grin

ah yes.....cant get away with a discreet trump anymore these days Sad Toby points to my bum and laughs like a loon
"mum...noisy bum!!" Grin
bit embarrassing in asda!

Full of flu...hacking cough, headache, nausea..ugh.

DebiTheScot · 16/12/2010 10:20

Ha. The head teacher is getting boy's dad in [smug face]

Debs75 · 16/12/2010 13:08

I trumped yesterday and Robyn asked me if I was ok. Her other trick is saying 'bless you' to every sneeze and cough and burp and trump. At least she's polite.

we have snow again

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 16/12/2010 13:24

I hope the flu passes soon Bec, M and I have colds at the moment and that's making me grumpy enough.

Did your phone survive debi? Dry it out by opening it up and pouring uncooked rice into it - it helps suck the moisture out.

No snow here, just rain and gloomy skies.

Can you beleive dh and I are out on Sat night, so I won't be watching the SCD final - what shit planning on my behalf! Kara to win.

DebiTheScot · 16/12/2010 14:35

I don't know yet ILTMIMI. Working in a science dept helped though, I borrowed a load of silica gel so it is currently in a sealed jar of silica in the airing cupboard. Annoyingly you can't take it apart at all. It's an iphone and the battery doesn't come out. It could take up to a week to dry out apparantly but I'm reasonably optomistic!

becaroodolf · 16/12/2010 21:46

ILTMIMI How can you be missing the SCD final????? Grin I want Matt to win but think Pamela will.

Feel grumpy and fed up. I am very bad at being ill.

Went to ds1's nativity at the local church this afternoon...it was so lovely...all the reception kids as the holy family plus numerous donekys and other animals Grin
It was so sweet...I really had to fight back the tears Blush

Its his "celebration assembly" tomorrow and he has a part in it so I have to drag myself there tomorrow morning.

Am so tired...really need to go to bed.......

Megletitsnow · 16/12/2010 22:17

becaroo Was your DS dressed up as anything?

I'm glad it's my weekend now as the snow is due to hit us in the next day or so. Although I wish the BBC & MET office would make their mind up, the BBC changes every couple of hours.

I just this second had a message to say my friend has just had a baby girl. She now has an almost 4yo DS (we were in the NCT class together when we had our DC1's), 2yo DD plus new DD Smile. She's a lovely mummy, she has her DH well trained! Now, what pressies can I buy?!

digitalgirl · 16/12/2010 22:32

Bookmarking again.

DS doing well with doing wees on the toilet. This seems to be having a positive effect on his poos too! Much less protest involved which is such an improvement. He even did one at the cm Xmas party to do, must have been the excitement!

Another result today - ds is not scared of Santa! Lots of other children were highly suspicious of the man in the fake beard, but ds ran up with a big grin, took his present and gave a big thank you smile (will not actually say thanks on demand).

Had follow up appointment with miscarriage clinic yesterday. Went through my history, had a very reassuring chat with senior registrar and got my clotting tests done (which I thought I'd have to wait till feb to do). Have another follow up appointment in feb.

becaroodolf · 17/12/2010 10:55

meglet No, he was in the choir. He was really going for it!!! They sang the usual carols and a couple of quite new up tempo ones too. The reception kids did the nativity tableux. Nearly cried it was so lovely.

It was his celebration assembly this morning and he did an xmas poem with another classmate....its so good to see him so happy and confident Smile The year 5s did a dance based on the ancient olympics...it was BRILLIANT.

DG Thats good news Smile

Feel dreadful. Shouldnt have done the beavers xmas party on weds, shouldnt ahve gone to the nativity yesterday and shouldnt have gone this morning but what the hell....am planning on spending the weekend in bed Sad

Love to all x

CappuccinoCarrie · 17/12/2010 15:01

bec sorry you're feeling so rubbish but you've worn yourself out doing some excellent sounding things iyswim!!
DG I'm really glad that you don't have to wait as long as you thought you did for tests - I was thinking of you the other day and feeling so :( for you at all the disappointment and waiting you have to do right now. Really hope Christmas is a wonderful distraction for you.
I'm mega grumpy mummy today, too many late nights and zero patience.

OP posts:
MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 17/12/2010 15:18

Hey DG glad you've had some progress in your tests - always makes me feel better to be actually doing something IYKWIM.

A sounds like he's ready to come out of nappies - are you going to go for it? C's been out for 2 weeks now and only had one acident at nursery and has now cracked potty poos (which she seemed a bit scared of) TMI but the first time she did it, i was standing like a loon by the potty singing to her poo to come on out and join us Xmas Blush

Oh and the girls on the TTC thread were asking after you. I mentioned you were steering clear for now, hope that's OK? Nothing else shared though - not my tales to tell.

bec sounds lovely. Have a restful weekend.

Please tell me it'll be OK ladies - I have to go to London on Monday 14th Feb (can you believe it) on the 6am train and will not return home till the Friday. Xmas Sad
Will I cope, will C forget me, will DP manage? Arrgghhh

Debs75 · 17/12/2010 15:35

Have noticed that Robyn stays dry for about 3-4 hours between nappy changes. Do you think it could be time to think about potty training??

CappuccinoCarrie · 17/12/2010 15:43

mrsa so :( for you that you'll be away, but when you get home it'll be, in the words of Slade, CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISTMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSS!

OP posts:
MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 17/12/2010 16:54

Oh bless your pregnancy brain Carrie. I'm not away on Monday coming - am away on the 14th Feb ie valetines day for 4 nights on a course - 9-5 every day too the bastards. Am going to book a west end show and a nice meal out to compensate whilst I'm there.
Have lied and said I had to be home by 6.30 on the Friday as DP is going away on business, so booked the 4.10pm train back.
Plus, they gave me a budget for train fare and cos I've booked so early, have managed to get first class there and back Xmas Grin.

Can you believe the next train after the one I'm on outbound is actually more expensive standard class than my 6am jobby first class. And goin home, first class was 50p less than standard class. barmy.

Debs I'd say it was more about when you are ready. As long as Robyn doesn't mind being in nappies, leave it till you feel able to cope with full potties and a small baby Xmas Smile
But if you want to, just do it. I just turned the heating up for the first couple of days and let C race around with just a vest on. I don't think being winter hindered us at all. We even saw the big FC last weekend and queued for about 30mins and no accidents.

CappuccinoCarrie · 17/12/2010 20:14

[slaps self repeatedly on forehead]

DH's good news today is that he can go to a conference in London for a few days next year and can claim back car travel and hotel expenses. So we might go too, stay at my mums and one night I'll leave the kids there and join DH in the hotel, yipee!!

OP posts:
Megletitsnow · 17/12/2010 21:23

Please can I swear? Angry BALLS!!!! I knackered my windscreen wipers today (trying to turn them on when they were still frozen, although they looked fine) so tomorrow we are off on a terribly exciting outing to the dealers to get new ones. Feck.

But I have a glass of wine so it's not all bad.

carrie Hope the work trip daaan saarf all comes together for you Smile.

Ooooo MrsA First Class! How civilised, enjoy the trip. I'm sure C will be fine. Do some Xmas shopping while you're there!

DebiTheScot · 17/12/2010 22:04

meglet catch up. She's going in Feb Grin

It's the hhhhoooolllllllliiidddddaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyssssssssssssssssssssssss Xmas Smile

Megletitsnow · 17/12/2010 22:10

see, I was so annoyed about my bloody wipers I wasn't reading properly! Grin

MrsA Buy something nice for Valentines then, or get Easter Eggs from Fortnums - I did that before I had a mortgage and DC's.
