Shiny new thread for Christmas!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

eandz Thank you x

I am thinking of paying for him to be assessed by a INPP therapist.....ds1 had significant developmental delay as a baby and I dont think the the HCPs and schools - and me to an extent - have taken that seriously enough.

He is such a sweet kids, you know? He deserves better help than he has been given.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 02/03/2011 14:39

Hopefully that trick works for us at bedtime - I settle c into her bed then say I'm just going to the loo or to sort the washing and I'll be back in a bit to see her.
Always works and it's similar to the banana story.
My theory is that at this age they can visualise you going to buy a banana or have a wee (although they don't know the time scale) whereas saying I'll be back later is probably too hard to understand and they can feel a bit lost.

We don't have to do this at nursery with C as she's been going since 10m. That was hard though as I couldn't explain to her and she had terrible abandonment anxiety.
Today though, she went in and found Amy (her bff) and put her soft toy (she brings one everyday) into the toy buggy and off she went with Amy, chattering away without a backward glance.
I struggle to get a kiss some days!

Her room is doing a sponsored walk around the athletics track tomorrow (nursery in grounds of college) and I think she'll love that. proud mummy has sponsored her £10 Grin

We love the free range chickens at Asda and always make stock for the freezer with the bones, sandwiches and one more meal. Never made chicken pie - sounds hard!
I'm working from home today and have made the MN macceroni cheese at lunchtime for tonight's tea. it uses part stock/part milk for the cheese sauce and also includes veggies - looks very nice.

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/03/2011 14:59

Oooh all this talk of food is making me hungry! I suddently need macaroni cheese! We went out for breakfast at a hotel this morning for my birthday, so I started the day with a full fry up (mmmm fried bread...so wrong and yet so right!) and we're out for dinner tonight, so I'm trying not to eat too much in between. Although after the success of valentines day, DH has hidden creme eggs round the house again, I've still got 4 to find apparently! And the children gave me 5 chocolate oranges Grin Sadly DD is poorly so my planned trip to the designer outlet for coffee and shopping may not happen this afternoon.
eandz I get cold feet (but not as bad as yours) and DH often has hot ears...we've tried some sort of mutally beneficial sharing of heat but its a bit awkward!!

You want to stretch food? I thoroughly recommend trying to settle your kid into nursery. Apart from a couple of doughnuts, I don't think I've eaten for about 3 days with the stress of it all!

Hopefully · 02/03/2011 15:19

Oh, and I have started a thread on nursery predicament here if anyone feels like offering even more advice!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/03/2011 15:24

Happy Birthday Carrie Smile, it's also dh's birthday today - he's 40

eandz · 02/03/2011 15:38

hopefully

N starts nursery on the 21st. I'll be taking tips from your thread it looks like.

Speech and Language lady is supposed to be coming tomorrow but hasn't called to confirm nor has she returned any of my calls/emails/letter.

Noah is throwing one of the biggest tantrums of all time, but it's because he's wearing clothes and I just cannot give in to his wanting to be naked all the time.

On the bright side, I've done all my makeup. Now if I could just get to the hairdressers to touch up my roots/manicurist to have my mani pedi and the eyebrow lady to thread my eyebrows I'd be completely happy.

digitalgirl · 02/03/2011 21:50

Happy birthday carrie and Grin hooray for the good scan!

Looks like dsis is going to takeover one of mum's days with ds. So now ds will have a different person each day looking after him. I'm hoping this means each person will have a renewed energy and be up for wearing him out properly. He loves dsis - she's great at getting him to do more than he's expected to, is always up for craft and messy play and she'll be bringing her dog with her so all quite educational.

Or...should I be concerned at lack of continuity in care? He's with the cm every Monday - which he loves. Dsis on Tuesdays to start next week. Dh on Weds. Mum on thurs. Me on Friday.

I guess we'll see. I'd quite like to up his cm days, but they're completely full.

starlight

i just posted a bunch on SN!

Debs75 · 03/03/2011 10:13

Pacita try holding her under her arms so she stretches down, gently rocki her from side to side and that can ease the wind. Or lay her down after a feed and pushe her knees upto her chest a couple of times, pick her back up and you shoulg get some burps.

pacita · 03/03/2011 10:34

Thanks for the advice, debs, I will give it a try right away. I have had another horrid night of feeding every hour, burping endlessly and I feel so tired I'm likely to start weeping. I don't remember Diego feeding so relentlessly, plus she's started pooing green. Honestly, whoever said breastfeeding was easy?

On the plus side, Diego slept through! I've drawn a chart and Diego on a scooter. , for every night he sleeps through he gets a star. When he's got ten, he gets the scooter!

Becaroooo · 03/03/2011 13:23

What debs said pacita I also found that with ds1 what helped was putting him across my knees on his tummy and rubbing his back....

OK, so am taking the bull by the horns and asking for a child development referral for ds1. Am also looking into therapies that may help him. I am not being fobbed off anymore!

Feel like such a crappy mum today Sad

DebiTheScot · 03/03/2011 14:37

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH TEENAGERS!

That's it really.

eandz · 03/03/2011 15:18

becaroo

you are NO crappy mom. You're a good one. You're paying attention to your child and finding him help. Own that bull+horns!

debithescot
teenagers scare me. Although I think N is pretty much there.

Debs75 · 03/03/2011 15:28

Pacita I was told that green poos meant they were still hungry. I'm not sure on this as Lucy had almost constant green poos and she has put weight on fantastically since birth. BF does get easier I promise.

We decided to try the CC again last night. robyn was being a nightmare having her feed so I said we would have a cuddle with Alien. She seemed ok about it so I went for a wee. when I got back she was under the covers playing hide and seek. I told her I was off to see Daddy and she just stayed in bed. She was asleep within 30 minutes. No crying, no sobbing. Dp went up after an hour and moved her to her cot and she stayed there till 7amGrinGrinGrin.
It might not last but it was so nice to have her go to sleep so easily.

Just wondering is anyone else's LO's still in a cot?

Debi I agree hormonal teenagers are so annoying, at least mine goes to school everyday

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/03/2011 16:22

Had a bad day at work per chance Debi? Grin

{{{Becaroo}}} you are not a bad mummy, you just need some help, there is no shame in that.

Pacita - green poo's are a sign of too much foremilk. Don't panic though, it can be easy to rectify and it's not causing any damage to Ines - although I think it may be a reason why she is windy.

When you say she feeds a lot, could it be that she is actually having lots of little feeds, or falling asleep quite quickly into a feed then waking up hungry an hour or so later?

If that's the case she might not be accessing so much of the hindmilk (the higher calorie part of the milk). Which means you then go in circles, she's getting the foremilk (often referred to as the thirst quencher), just about satisying herself with that, then waking up hungry an hour or so later because she hasn't had a full feed.

There are a few tricks to overcome this, from memory:

Keep them cool when feeding - they are less likely to fall asleep. Also feed one side, wake them up with a nappy change, then feed the other side. Tickle her feet, under her chin, talk, sing to her etc etc.

Switch feeding - switch sides every five minutes until the feed comes to an end. This will give multiple let downs during the feed (this keeps the baby interested as lots of gain for not so much work.) Remember that each let down DOES NOT mean your breast reverts to foremilk each time.

Think of your supply as a hot tap, starts of cold (foremilk), gets warmer (combination of the two), then hot (hindmilk). It's obviously rather more complex than tis analogy, but hopefully you get what I mean!!

debs - M is still in a cot. Luckily it's a cotbed so it's more than big enough. It will stay with the bars on until he trys to climb out of it. I still can't believe he hasn't tried to escape, because he easily could!

CappuccinoCarrie · 03/03/2011 16:59

I read an article about bf recently which mentioned the green poos - too much foremilk. Expressing off an ounce or so before you start feeding can make a big difference, as can what ILTMIMI has suggested above. Trying to make each feed a full feed with hind milk should improve things. I tried breast compression a la Dr Jack Newman (google him!) to keep DS interested in feeding and remind him that's why he was there, to make every feed as full as possible and increase the gaps between feeds.
Had a lovely day at the beach today, but soooo tired now!
Have a Wine debi and tell us all about it :)

Debs T is still in a cot. We keep talking about getting him a bed (I've even discussed it with him, and he's happy!), but we just haven't got round to it, and can't really afford it - we'd like to buy a bunkbed and just put one bunk together for now. I guess we'll have to bite the bullet at some point, but we probably won't do it before the baby comes now, unless there's some drama. His cot is pretty big though (it's a stokke one, but still in cot form, not junior bed form).

I have never made bubble and squeak. Is it actually tasty? Is it a case of throwing all leftovers in a pan with eggs?

Have been writing lists today (lets be honest, you've all missed my lists Grin) - vegetables for DP to try to get planted (there's no way I'm wielding a spade at this stage), things for baby we haven't bought (all our little baby clothes were borrowed last time, and pretty much all have gone back for subsequent babies), hospital bag (nope, haven't got that packed), things to stock up in on in case baby appears without much warning, etc etc etc.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/03/2011 19:55

I need to write lists Hopefully and I've got as far as listing the lists that I need to make Grin

I thought of you today, I was flicking through the Lakeland catalogue (pure kitchen porn) and saw something to do with crumpets (crumpet rings I think). I wondered who would make crumpets? But then thought of you as I know you make loads of baked goods . So, have you ever made crumpets??!
