that is, a bike with a trailer.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 23/02/2011 21:51

Hello Hopefully medear. Firstly, you are NOT a bad mummy for
Sending T to nursery. He will settle and if you trust them, he won't be affected by crying as they'll comfort him.
C goes to nursery 3 days (upped to 4 days from sept) a week. Yes cos I work
but I often send her when I'm off as she misses the other children so much.
She adores it and they do stuff I could never dream of (eg having a zoo keeper in for the day with an iguana, doing a sponsored toddle around the athletics track - its in a college).

I often feel guilty but for me, I would hate to send her to school with no idea of what to expect. Plus if you get to sleep when new baby sleeps, you will be a better mum to T.

If I ever manage to conceive No2, C will still go to nursery at least 2 days a week.

And the bike trailer sounds great. 2 things - they're not designed for very teeny babies and you won't be cycling anywhere for at least 6 weeks after a c section. But a great idea once new baby is a few months old.

Meglet · 23/02/2011 21:57

I don't know about trailers, I'm the person who has started driving the very short distance to nursery as I'm fed up with the dog poo on the pavements Blush. Will walk when the evenings are lighter.

And I send the DC's to nursery on my days off. There's a toss up between ratty mummy trying to get chores and errands done, lots of shouting and cbeebies..... or running around with friends doing messy play and not being shouted at. Nursery take them to the park, supermarket and library so they get to see real life too.

Good luck on friday DG.

DebiTheScot · 23/02/2011 22:52

DS2 went to childminder this morning so I could take ds1 climbing. They're both going tomorrow so I can get some slobbing housework done. It's good for them and for me!

I'm fairly sure you shouldn't put a baby in a trailer until they're about 1. They shouldn't really wear a helmet before 1 (mine both did for very short periods of time) and there's no support from bumps in a trailer. I could be wrong but I was put off putting a small baby in a trailer as I looked into it too. The cost put me off too!

Kagey on the roof is really safe for bikes. The other really safe option is on a rack that goes on the towbar that the bikes stand on. But it's £250 to get a towbar fitted and another £200ish for a decent rack. And a rack that takes 4 bikes is very long.
The ones that go on the back windscreen are ok but I don't think they look as safe and they put a lot of pressure on the windscreen and are hard to put on properly. And I couldn't find one like that that took 4 bikes. Oh and they don't take small kids bikes.

Debs75 · 24/02/2011 19:28

Kagey I once saw a bike come off the roof of a car, it bounced pretty well, but was pretty ruined. I don't think it was tied on properly.

Poor Robyn has got thrush now and she is still wheezing. She has anti-biotics, steroids, cream and an inhaler. It feels like she is always having some medicine.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/02/2011 19:42

Poor Robyn Debs, I hope she's better soon.

Good luck for tomorrow Digi, I will be keeping everything crossed.

Don't feel guilty hopefully, one of the reasons I sent ds to pre-school when I did was because we wanted him settled in before the baby arrives. I know I will need some sort of break from him when I am mixed up in newborn hell, which makes me feel slightly guilty, but I also realise I'm being realistic. I find the newborn stage really tough and I'll find it even tougher with ds around 24/7. He'll end up getting pissed off with his grumpy mum and we'll be at loggerheads - not good. I still want to be able to enjoy his company rather than find it testing and an annoyance.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/02/2011 19:49

Oh crap, also forgot to say hurrah for the lump just being lumpy Pacita, I imagine it's a great relief Smile

digitalgirl · 25/02/2011 12:44

Scan was flipping terrifying. But all ok. Baby with heartbeat, but measures 2 days smaller than I expected, so not out of the woods yet.

Hooray for normal lump pacita

oh starlight good news and sad news. . How long is your Dad expected to stay in hospital for?

Glad your scan went well dg.

Kagey · 25/02/2011 20:48

Thanks Debi and Debs on bike carrier advice.

Starlight sorry to hear that and I hope your Dad continues to recover well.

Digi I'm glad your scan went well today :)

We had a nice family day at a wildlife park and DD loved seeing the tigers. Personally I love the Lemurs.

Have a good weekend all!

CappuccinoCarrie · 25/02/2011 20:51

Hi all, back from our lovely holiday. Great time with grandparents (my ILs) and DH and I had some quality time together too, really nice.
pacita yay for non-lump!
DG yay for scan!
starlight yay for your dad's health! So sorry about evil AF :(
Just having a quiet sherry and on-line catch up then must do a little more unpacking as its covering our bed!

Debs75 · 26/02/2011 09:05

Well Robyn is getting better. She is sleeping better and will take her inhaler when I give it to her. She hates the steroids 'yuck' and hides when we show her the anti-biotics. Her bottom is clearing up so we should be out of the woods soon.

I tried CC with her last night. I know I have always said I don't like it but she was getting me down with all the feeding, plus she has started mauling me. We got her a light up Alien and she likes to lay looking at him. As soon as I leave thought she starts whining. She was pretty tired so I tucked her in my bed and told her I was off to toilet and went for a few minutes. She cried so I went back, gave her a hug then went for 5 mins. Went back gave her anopther hug, told her to go to sleep then left her for 5 mins. I ended up going back 4 times, telling her it was time to sleep. She did after about 30 mins of intermittent whinging and asking for me. I felt dreadful but she did sleep through, plus Luch ardly woke so I had a good nights sleep. We just need to be strong and see it through for the next few nights.

Digi glad your scan went well. I had early scans with Robyn and it was a shock but very nice to see a little pulsing 'bean'

Pacita Glad you are just lumpy and it is nothing serious. How is Ines doing?

Star Glas to hear your Dad is on the mend. Good luck with the statement review. If what they have already given him is working then they can't take it away. How old is he?

eandz · 26/02/2011 13:11

bookmarking.

Reading a lot of good news on here, congratulations ladies!

hi ladies!

Noah is still not talking much + a few odd behaviors that he hasn't grown out of and we're seeing everyone under the sun to see if we can figure out whats up.

Star glad to hear you're Father is doing better!

CappuccinoCarrie · 26/02/2011 13:56

I'm getting worried about DS's size again; a lady who had a little boy in her trolley got talking to me in the supermarket, DS was on the loose and helping me get things off the shelves, the lady said "he's steady on his feet, how old is he?" And she couldn't hide her surprise when I said 2 1/2. She said her little boy (much the same size as my DS, but a bit more 'baby' looking) was 15 months. As she walked away she said to the lady she was with something about my DS being 2 1/2 and can you believe it. As if to prove how grown up he is, DS went up to her and said "I'm wearing new dungarees, they've got a truck on them!" Said new dungarees are 18-23m size though Confused. I should do his height and weight again and see if he's grown at all in the last 6m, his feet certainly haven't and are still measuring a 4 1/2.

eandz hope you get some answers about Noah's development, it can be so worrying can't it? What have the docs said so far? How's his eating going? You were making fantastic progress last time you were on here!

debs it will be worth the tough love now, I promise! Glad you got some decent sleep last night.

eandz · 26/02/2011 14:20

CappuccinoCarrie
His eating has improved a whole lot, my little piggy is eating lots and lots of little bits of everything. I'm very happy.

Not too much speech, it's pretty weird though because I have heard him say phrases while he's in the hallway, or when he thinks he's alone...but maybe I'm just crazy? He does tell us when he's happy by exclaiming 'happy!' when we're doing his favorite things.

Don't worry about size, Noah has only just grown out of 24 month old clothing--and only barely. I bet he could wear his 24 month old clothing for another month or so. I have been known to dress my son in girls skinny jeans that are for 12-18 month olds. His feet have only recently got to a size 6, and were a size 4-5 for most of the past few months. I keep him crocs. I just had his height weight checked, he doesn't look much smaller and is pretty 'built'. Our GP wasn't concerned, but she never is unless I complain.

DH and I are small people though.

CappuccinoCarrie · 26/02/2011 14:35

I think that's what worries me eandz - I'm not small! But DH isn't that tall for a man, and his mum is tiny . Thank you for the encouragement though, always nice to know we're not alone.
So glad Noah's eating is improving and that its making you so happy, that's great!
I'm sure his speech will improve, they develop at such different rates, some are slower physically, others verbally, but they all get there, I promise!

OP posts:
Hopefully · 26/02/2011 20:14

Yay about scan DG! Try not to panic about 2 day difference - in the scheme of a baby as teeny as yours, those 2 days could be down to the sonographer clicking their mouse a fraction of a mm in the wrong place when they're measuring.

Thanks all for bike trailer advice - I didn't realise it was as much as a year before they were useful for babies. T will be practically too big to tow by the time the little one is able to go in it! Maybe I'll just resign myself to a long walk occasionally.

Just had the dumbest row ever with DP where he accused me of being hormonal (well yes. You try growing a whole other person and NOT be affected), and then of acting like a 5 year old. I shouted back that there were a limited number of hormonal 5 year olds out there. It went on in this vein for a while. We are so sophisticated. (and not at all hormonal).

Carrie I am always getting comments about T's size, but for the opposite reason. He's a bit of a podge. But I always knew he was going to slim down waaaaay after all the other children his age since he started walking a full year later than some of them. He's recently started really running (oh, the joy of having the co-ordination to run!) and has noticibly slimmed down, as well as shot up. A friend who has a teeny weeny little kid the same age is constantly horrified at his size, as am I at her teeny weeny kid, so I guess it's entirely dependent on what you're used to. Which is a long winded way of saying don't worry about it. Also he is about 98th percentile and only has size 6 feet, which were size 5 until a few weeks ago Smile

Oh, and speech. lots of people kept saying to me that I needed to get T's speech checked as he had about 3 words when he was two. Four months later it's more a case of trying to get him to shut up... Hmm Grin. They change so fast.

Hopefully · 26/02/2011 20:14

when he turned two, I mean.

DebiTheScot · 26/02/2011 20:24

hello eandz and star, welcome back.
Sounds like Noah has made amazing progress on his eating, hope the other issues don't turn out to be anything serious.
Glad to hear your dad is on the mend star.

carrie ds2 is still in either 12-18 or 18-24 month trousers and some of his tshirts are 18-24 still. Every now and again I wonder if I should be concerned about his growing as he doesn't seem to do much but I think it is common for them not to grow so much in the winter. According to my scales his weight and height are normal but I think he seems small. And I'm convinced that half adult height at 2 thing must be rubbish as it had him being 5ft 6 which seems a tad short!

Spent all aft fixing the bike carriers to the roof rack. Put ds1's bike on it and it seems very secure. Mind you it was just on the dining room floor!

Now I'm meant to be sowing elastic onto netball bibs, oh joy.

Star Have you got evidence from the school/nursery that the package is helping? They can't shouldn't take it away if it is working without giving you another package. Unfortunately they never give you enough help so you sometimes have to settle.

Robyns good health was a bit premature. She was telling me she needed a poo yesterday afternoon and that her belly hurt. I gave her a massage thinking she might be constipated. Just as we were serving tea up she started being sick, it was all last nights tea as well. She was then sick most of the night until about 11pm. She seems a bit happier now after a full nights sleep and has managed some breakfast without bringing it back up.
She has managed to pass it on to Lucy as she has a raging temperature and is very whingy.

Carrie I find it depends where you go for clothes as to what age Robyn is in. At tescos I have to get her age 3/3-4. In Asda she is age 2-3 and matalan age 2-3. She weighs 15 kilos but I'm not sure where that is on the charts. DD1 was off the charts when she was this age. for her 3rd birthday I got her loads of clothes and they were all age 5. I passed them onto my friends dd and she was wearing them when she was 8.

Good news about your Dad Starlight, not so great news about AF though. Hopefully the next month will be less stressful for you and it will be your month.

Hurrah for the scan Digi, I'm still keeping everything crossed here for you x

Hi EandZ, great to hear tha N's eating has improved. Little steps, little steps Smile

I've had some evil hormone moments Hopefully Blush. DH doesn't do arguing though so I'm left silently fuming. I'm not sure what's worse, silently fuming or arguing?!

It's so easy to find something to stress about with our lo's. DS is quite a bit taller than his peers, takes a 9 shoe and is a totally solid build. My rational mind says that it's not unexpected as I'm tall and dh is just a wee bit taller than the average. However when other people keep mentioning it, it then starts to plant a seed of doubt and makes you paranoid Confused

Potty training has been going well. All wee's are in the loo or potty, but poo's are another matter Hmm. I know a lot of it is to do with wanting to poo in privacy, so I adjusted accordingly and he has a nice quiet pooing area (!), but no, he still keeps doing it in his pants. I am trying to stay cool, calm and collected about it - which isn't easy when 31 weeks pg and seemingly constantly knackered!

Becaroooo · 27/02/2011 13:26

Hi everyone.

Changed back to my normal (ish) nickname. The other just wasnt working for me! Grin

Good to see some good news!

eandz Toby didnt have many words at all til about a month ago (he will be 2.5 next month) He now repeats (or tries to) alot of what we say and he talks A LOT. Ds1 was the same....he went from mummy and daddy to full sentances in a week!

star God, thats awful for you. Really hope it gets sorted for you and your ds.

DG Yay!!!

Toby is now in a size 8 shoe Shock and is very solid Smile

Its ds1's first parents evening at his new school on tuesday and I am so nervous!
