Shiny new thread for Christmas!

Happy Valentines to you all, and happy chocolate eating. DP got me some Thorntons which I am rapidly devouring with a lovely Brew

Robyn is finally feeling better although she still has a cough, at least she is sleeping again and has stopped being sick.

Hopefully I am with you on employment. Unless it was a job I knew I would adore I don't want to work for an employer. ATM I am quite happy helping DP with his Kleeneze, it doesn't pay much, yet but is better then the dole.

DebiTheScot · 14/02/2011 14:54

RMCW if you email/write to any local schools telling them you'd like to xome in for some experience I'm sure they'd be happy to let you come in. The more experience you've got the better, I think it's an oversubscribed course and a popular job. Experience at infant, junior and even secondary school will be invaluable.

I was speaking to another teacher at work the other day who works 3 days a week and pays £1200 a month in childcare!!!!!!!!!! Shock She might earn a bit more than me but not much, if my costs were that I'd have £100 each month! Our costs are about £500 so financially it works and it keeps me relatively sane Grin

I'm in the process of making dh a valentine's cake but the mixture was a bit much for the tin and most of it is on the bottom of the oven!

The rugby weekend was really good, 6 games of rugby, lots of unhealthy food, a few pints and a weekend with the grandparents and great auntie & uncle (they hate being called that, heehee). And we won our game so that was good too. RMCW do your family like rugby league too? You're Yorkshire way aren't you? SO are you Debs aren't you?

Meglet · 14/02/2011 16:30

debi thanks for the suggestion about getting work experience in schools. I'm looking for a school job, admin, teaching assistant even dinner lady (as long as it's term time I don't care!), I will get in touch with a few schools and ask Smile.

DebiTheScot · 14/02/2011 17:03

Meant to add earlier- I don't want to put you off but it might be useful to be aware of this- lots of schools are facing redundancies this year. Ours is £100k in deficit & will be making redundancies in the summer if not enough people leave. Also we'll be expected to teach more than 1 subject. (I teach 2, or 4 depending on how you look at it so should be ok)

RMCW · 14/02/2011 18:08

debi thanks for the advice....I must admit I did wonder about the govt. cuts and what it will mean for schools budgets. I am sorry that your school is being hit. I may just volunteer anyway (whether I do the course or not) as I enjoy it.

Rugby league Ahem, I was refrring to Rugby union darling!!! Its the 6 nations at the moment. Fab game yesterday, sadly Ireland lost.
(I am in derbyshire btw)

meglet there have been 2 dinner lady posts locally in the past week but its just impossible at the moment for me due to toby and childcare issues....I hope a post comes up when he is at school! Smile

DebiTheScot · 14/02/2011 19:40

lol rmcw, we do like union too! But the 6 nations aren't allowed to be mentioned!

I just did something really gross & disturbing. I paused OBEM to go and do something then when I came back I rewound it slightly as I'd missed a bit. BUT the bit I rewound showed a baby going back into her mummy!! Eeeewwwwweeee

DebiTheScot · 14/02/2011 19:41

and OH MY GOODNESS, scary forceps!

CappuccinoCarrie · 14/02/2011 19:47

Weren't they just debi! There was an 'are forceps really THAT bad?!' thread on here after that show aired!
Can't wait for tonight's episode!

OP posts:
RMCW · 14/02/2011 20:34

debi eeeewwwwwww............Grin

Meglet · 14/02/2011 20:58

I freaked when I saw the forceps last week. As someone who has only had cs's I'm dead squeamish when I see a hefty natural labour. I do like the nice water births though .

RMCW · 15/02/2011 09:41

Ladies....how long would you leave a virus til you went to the GP???

Its been nearly 2 weeks and I still look like a ghost, weak, coughing up gunge and full of snot Sad

Hate going to the docs to be told I have a virus..I know that! Just want a magic pill to make it go away Sad

sob, sniff

Debs75 · 15/02/2011 10:15

I felt sick watching her heave that baby out with the forceps. My sis had a forceps delivery with her first and she said it was dreadful, not that she remembers much as she was high as a kite. The mere mention of forceps made me push harder with DD1.

Debi Yes I'm Yorkshire and we support Hull KR. Best friend supports Hull FC so it was nice to rub it in that we had beat them again. I grew up on Rugby as dad was a big fan and we had a really good local village side when we were kids.

digitalgirl · 15/02/2011 10:36

RMCW go to the docs now and get yourself some ABs.[stern face]

RMCW · 15/02/2011 12:20

DG > OK x

CappuccinoCarrie · 15/02/2011 19:22

Soooo, what did they say RMCW? Really hope you turn a corner and start to feel better soon :)

OP posts:
Meglet · 15/02/2011 20:51

I hope you've been to the doc's RMCW. Last year I discovered you can have a bad chest infection without realising it Blush.

RMCW · 16/02/2011 10:54

Hi ladies, have been to GP and I have a chest infection Sad Am on ABs now. Thanks for the concern x

Toby still a bit under the weather too so we are going to have a sofa day today...had far too many of those recently...feel like a rubbish mummy atm Sad

Have bitten the bullet and told the leader am not going to beavers tonight either...its campfire cooking and I dont really want to be stood out in the cold and wet Hmm

God, what would I do without cbeebies!!!

digitalgirl · 16/02/2011 11:05

Glad you got the AB's RMCW [relaxes stern face and strokes hair]. You are not a bad mummy, you are making sure you get better in order to stay a brilliant mummy.

BTW think that NHS job sounds like a pretty good deal, if you could make sure DH was home before you left for work - or had someone that could mind the kids till he got home.

FWIW I work 4 days a week and am pretty happy with my situation as DH also works 4 days so we only need to find childcare for 3 days. Obviously, would love to work 3 days instead, but would mean DH would need to earn more - also would be really tough finding a job doing what I do for only 3 days. And I wouldn't want to earn less than I do per day now, unless it was for a home-based business like Hopefully is doing.

Had a scan on Monday, and all in the right place and measuring correctly for 5 weeks. Have another next Friday when hopefully we'll see a nice strong heartbeat. Fingers tightly crossed for me ladies.

RMCW · 16/02/2011 11:11

DG oooh, what great news! I had loads of scans with toby due to ds1's issues and my mc and found it really helpful Smile

Hmmmm...the nhs job does appeal but dh's new role (whenever he moved that is!) will mean him not getting him til 5.30pm and I would have to give up being a beaver leader which I love.

Might keep a look out for some other nhs jobs - maybe less hours even.

CappuccinoCarrie · 16/02/2011 13:32

So glad you've got some ABs RMCW, cbeebies is your friend right now, you'll be up and about again in no time. And good call not going to the campfire in your condition!

DG that's wonderful news about the scan :)

I'm so glad we're going away next week, I just want the time til our scan to go very fast so a holiday will be a wonderful distraction!

OP posts:
Debs75 · 16/02/2011 16:24

Hope yu start feeling better soon RMCW

Digi 5 weeks is really early for a scan, what could you see?
I had a scan with robyn when I was 7 weeks and I could see a round egg shaped sac with a tiny pulsing heartbeat in the middle

Kagey · 16/02/2011 16:39

That's good news DG and I shall continue to keep my fingers crossed for you.

RMCW Hope the meds get you right as rain very soon. My PILs are getting over chest infections at the moment and it has knocked them for six.

I just have the sniffles at the moment and I hope I can fend off a cold without too much paracetamol. It's just over a month to my due date now and the March 11 antenatal group are starting to have babies which is making everything even more real :) .

RMCW · 17/02/2011 12:13

kagey I know how they feel! Havent been this ill for years....thanks for the sympathy!

Due in a month!!! How did that happen???! wow, its seems to have gone so fast (for me!) Hope the cold goes away x

Poor toby is still poorly...was sick again at teatime last night....dont want to keep taking him the the GPs as they just keep telling me its a virus but the poor kid is struggling when he eats and is still very snotty Sad

Ds1 came home last night from school and he has gone up another reading level (thats the 3rd in 3 months!) and he got another badge at beavers last night

Meglet · 17/02/2011 21:39

bookmarking.

Meglet · 17/02/2011 23:31

Very pleased you have some medicine now RMCW. Don't fret about lots of sofa days this time of year. If animals can hibernate so can people Smile.

I took the DC's to the hairdressers today. The hairdresser and kids dvd's work like magic on the them. Then we went to Lush for ballistics and played on the ipads in the Apple shop Smile. The nice lad in Apple showed me the Spot the dog app which entertained them.

digi Good to hear it's going well. I will cross my fingers for your next scan.

DD is starting to get quite independent these days. She has learnt how to put her trousers on and can put her wellies on. Part of me is going to miss not having a small person to dress, the other half of me is bloody thrilled we might not be far off from being able to leave the house in under an hour.
