[boggles] slow down weight loss? S must be drinking bucketloads! Your diet already sounds really good, dairy stuff/eggs/nuts/toast are all nutritious ways to get calories. I rate eggs as being brilliant food :) try to get as many of them down L as I can cos she doesn't eat much meat/pulses/beans. I think the reason I can't shift the baby weight is that I bake far too often, we've always got muffins/biscuits/cakes knocking around the kitchen. I need more children to help eat them! What bag did you get? [nosey]

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 07/01/2011 09:49

Hey Pample yay for bag! Slow down weightloss? Erm, cake, cake and more cake? There does seem to be a severe lack of cake in your diet you know Grin What you have just described is what i would eat on a diet! Seriously though, i have troughed my way through christmas and have still managed to get below 10st7 just Grin Are you still feeling hungry? How about having a sandwich with your soup instead of just bread? Full fat milk? Cream in your porrige?

F has been snoozing and feeding all morning, and if i go to move him he starts to cry. Not even dressed yet.

neenz · 07/01/2011 10:14

Pample, what about adding nuts and seeds to your diet - they are superfoods, absolutey fantastic for you healthwise and high in calories. I have linseeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds and even grind a tbsp into the twins' porridge in the morning. Brazil nuts are great too.

Alice, what a moving story about your childhood. Glad you feel so positive about it. Pample too, sounds like you had it rough. Like you say, it puts things in perspective - I always think as long as your kids know you love them unconditionally you can't go far wrong.

What were the stats in the Calpol study? Cos if it was something like 1 in 1000 gets asthma/eczema without Calpol and 3 in 1000 gets it with Calpol, that still only 0.3% of kids who had calpol getting asthma, even if it is x3 more (IYSWIM). Stats can be seem scarier than they really are sometimes.

Daniel has a bad cold and is struggling to sleep. His cot is propped but last night he woke every 30mins between 10pm and 12.30! Sad. So I shoved a load of stuffed toys under one end of his mattress so he was a bit more upright - it seemed to work! He only woke once at 3.30am which is normal for him. He had rolled a little bit down the cot tho Grin

So if your LO is struggling with a cold try propping them up even further!

WinterChillita · 07/01/2011 10:15

You could come and stay round mine for a while, I'd soon fatten you up. We had banana muffins for breakfast, just had tea and sugar biscuits , we'll have jam/peanut butter on toast for lunch and chilli beef casserole for evening meal. I'll probably make an apricot crumble for pud cos it's snowing and that always requires custard Grin

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 07/01/2011 10:32

Chulita can i come to stay? I love custard Grin

We are having scrambled egg for lunch as have loads of eggs (my grandparents gave us a dozen)

Neenz i really feel that your life is what you make of it. I was lucky i had a fantastic father (got sole custody of me aged just 19) and very good grandparents. I get on fine with my mum now - not very good at holding a grudge Grin bit meh about that sort of thing.

F has just rolled from his back onto his front for the first time! Woo - Go Fred! Now looks like an angry penguin though Grin

bellygazing · 07/01/2011 10:43

Slowing down weightloss pample Envy I second the cake idea.

I wouldn't worry too much about the calpol - statistics can be made to say almost anything, and as long as you are using it because you think they need it, then you are doing the best thing for your baby I reckon.

Pretty rubbish night here. Although E has been waking loads recently, she has been going down pretty quietly fairly early, some time between 7.30pm and 8.30pm. Last night, it was 10.30pm. This involved her getting 5oz EBM, then breastfeeding for an hour, then for another 15 minutes about 10 mins later, then wouldn't settle (or feed) for about half an hour, then another full feed off both breasts. I think she is having a mega growth spurt. Oh, and then we woke at 2am, 3.30am, 5am, about 6.30(although that was my fault as I fell asleep during the 5am feed and then tried to move her at 6.30am when I woke), then awake at 8am. Bah humbug.

On the plus side, since I've started whacking her in the pram the naps during the day have been going great, yesterday had 1 1/2 hours in the morning and nearly 2 hours in the afternoon. I would trade that all for the days when she would regularly sleep 5 hours, then 4, then 4 at night though :o(b

neenz · 07/01/2011 13:07

The other thing about Calpol is it is impossible to control for all the other factors. They try as hard as they can to rule out other things, but it can never be 100%.

Belly, good news on the day naps - my sis always put her kids in the pram for naps outside in rain/shine/snow, whatever! They always slept great. Your nights do sound awful though Sad. When are you expressing your milk? I read somewhere that expressing in the mornings to give in the evening can sometimes mean your baby gets 'wake-up' milk instead of 'go to sleep' milk. Not sure if that is true. I always gave the twins ebm before bedtime too in the hope they would sleep better (not sure they did but if gave me confidence that they had had a lot of milk). Sometimes they are just awkward buggers and nothing you do changes it!

marzipananimal · 07/01/2011 13:29

lol at angry penguin! I often think J looks like a baby owl when he's just woken up.

Did anyone else think (pre dc) that babies' sleep got gradually better and better as they got older? How wrong can you get?!
I'm going to get a humidifier for the bedroom to see if that helps his nose (I keep waking up with a dry sore throat so think it might be quite dry in our bedroom). Will also tip the cot up further although don't want him to end up in a heap at the bottom!

Can't even remember if i've already posted this (brain function severely impaired by lack of sleep) but doctor said there's nothing they can do for blocked nose though said humidifier is worth a try.

pample maybe put cheese on top of everything (if appropriate!), drink complan made with milk (I was trying to put on weight when ttc and those were my methods). Also if I could be bothered I'd have a cooked lunch as well as cooked tea, eg sausages and potatoes. Not much time to cook now though!

pamplem0usse · 07/01/2011 14:40

Well to those who are interested (as well as those who aren't!) the bag is on the Lulu Guinness website under 'handbags' - BLACK CROC PRINT LEATHER MARY.....
Thanks for the weight tips.... I'm a pescatarian so that;s obviously restrictive and was trying to avoid too much saturated fat (love cheese but probably doesn't fulfill this requirement unfortunately!).... think probably upping the carbs is the way to go. And my 21lb 'little' girl definitely does drink loads! It'll be a shock when she's being weaned and I can no longer eat anything in sight though! Anyway scrambled eggs on toast and fruit salad for lunch and some Christmas chocs (maybe they'll help?! need to eat them before DH gets his hands on them too!)... Nuts and seeds definitely a good suggestion though thanks Neenz!
Alice I've weighed 10st7 only once in my adult life. Being tall is my excuse and I'm going to stick with it!
Chulita am in awe of the fact you manage to find time to bake. Just managed to get a very grumpy S down to sleep and 'cleaned' the bathroom as we've some friends visiting tomorrow. By cleaned I mean swiped antibacterial wipes around the places.... On a positive note I managed to get around the shops without getting totally soaked, yay!

WinterChillita · 07/01/2011 14:52

pample I can see why you don't want to get baby sick on that Grin As for finding time to bake, I just love it so I'll squeeze it in when I can. Usually S sits in his bumbo on the side and L stands on her stool poking things so they're entertained and I cook. S is happy as long as he's got a whisk/spoon/wrapper to chew on! Housework is a whole different kettle of fish though...

ElusiveMoose · 07/01/2011 17:44

Halfway through cooking tea, so no time to post properly. Just wanted to say - re runny noses, the thing I've found best is to put a few drops of Olbas oil in a bowl of boiling water somewhere in the bedroom (as near to the cot as possible without being dangerous). Also propping the cot up.

And the other thing I wanted to say is - Ashes Grin.

ElusiveMoose · 07/01/2011 17:47

Oh, also I'm in a happy mood at the moment (in spite of my ongoing cough). DS1 is being a total star (I'd forgotten what he's like when he's not ill). Plus, my new PS3 arrived yesterday, so I spent a happy evening playing Harry Potter Lego with DH Grin.

thedogwalker · 07/01/2011 20:17

Hi everyone,

My DS not too well last 2 days, high temperature, red face, red hot spots over the body, and very whingy, think he may be teething, so gave him caplol last night and tonight, which instantly brings the temperature down.

He was weighed yesterday, 16lb 1oz at 19 weeks, well he is 20 weeks tomorrow Smile
and he has now rolled onto his tummy a few times this week, but makes me laugh, because he cries when he's rolled as he cannot get back on to his back Grin, how they grow so quick.

I was holding a 2 week old today, and i had forgotten how small they are when that young, my memory is bad, as it seems like an eternity since T was that small.

On a baking note, baked bread for the first time ever today and it turned out quite flat, tastes okay, but just flat, anybody with any tips for baking bread, (in the oven, no bread machine).

Hope everyone has a great weekend x

WinterChillita · 07/01/2011 20:56

thedogwalker hope your little boy gets better soon, it's horrible when they're ill.
wrt bread did you knead it for long enough? 5-10 mins is ages but it does make a difference, and did you let it prove for long enough so it was nicely risen after you'd knocked it back? otoh flat bread makes the most amazing toast, I'm always quite excited when mine doesn't rise Grin

morsbagmum · 07/01/2011 21:30

Hello ladies.. can I join you? Cannot believe I did not know this thread existed.. Blush

WinterChillita · 07/01/2011 21:31

Of course you can!

morsbagmum · 07/01/2011 21:34

scones due to come out of the oven in 3 minutes if that counts?

WinterChillita · 07/01/2011 21:42

only if you've got cream with them Grin

morsbagmum · 07/01/2011 21:43

sorry only strawberry jam....

WinterChillita · 07/01/2011 21:46

oh

WinterChillita · 07/01/2011 21:51

...good thing I've got me own, plate up and let's get chatting. How old's your little one? what's his/her name? etc
I've got two dcs, Lucy is 2.1 and Samson is 24 weeks.
Off to bed now cos S will be up most of the night!

morsbagmum · 07/01/2011 22:00

I am a first time mum at the young age of 39 - Evie is 19 weeks (20 weeks on Tuesday).

thank you for the warm welcome. Hope you manage to get some sleep.

ElusiveMoose · 07/01/2011 22:13

Welcome, morsbagmum. Congratulations on your little girl. Evie's a lovely name; one of DS1's friends is called that Smile. Actually, having a new recruit to the thread got me thinking - what happened to the list of info about everyone and their DC? Did it ever get copied across to this thread?

sparkle101 · 07/01/2011 22:29

elusive no I don't think it did - I think it got left in the antenatal basement in a box, held together with some dodgy looking brown tape Sad

Was only thinking this morning where is cherrypie, aussieng, littlemisssnowshine, mrs zac, are they still around but not posting?

Hi morsbagmum I'm afraid I can't talk to you if there is no cream on the scones. I am going on WW next week and need to fatten up!!! But welcome anyway.

CellyD · 07/01/2011 22:31

Welcome morsbagmum! Hope everyone with poorly little ones manages to get at least a few hours sleep in a row tonight.

I meet up with some friends in the week. It made me realise that even though I still know so little about this parenting adventure in comparison with those with experience, I've still come a long way since August. One of friends who is pregnant asked if my LO was sleeping through yet. I answered No, she asked whether I still feed at 3am to which I answered I still BF on demand, so if that demand makes itself known at 3am then I feed my LO. She informed me that she does not intend to feed at 3am as that's not civilised, she will only be feeding at midnight followed by a 6am feed so she can sleep. I hope for her sake that her baby has read the manual cover to cover and doesn't intend to ever be hungry between the hours of 12-6am!

It made me realise how much I've learnt in the last 20 weeks. It also made me realise I have some apologies to make to friends with kids for various 'I don't have kids but I'm sure I know best' comments I've made in blissful ignorance over the years!

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I have a long night ahead of me, LO is teething and has already woken up crying 4 times since being put to bed at 7.30 this evening.
