Amberc · 19/11/2010 11:52

I did wonder!!!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 19/11/2010 13:53

Aarrrggghhhh, had an email to say that S's nursery room has nits.

They've asked us to wash hair with a preventative shampoo - any suggestions from those of you who have been through this before about good products? Any other general advice - do DH and I need to do the same. I'll get all of our bedlinen washed tonight but any other ideas.

The thought of nits makes me feel quite ill! (and itchy!).

ktpie · 19/11/2010 14:57

I'm here, just worn out, have had a lot of busy weekends recently, have a rubbish lingering cold, and H is still waking me a fair bit at night. So I keep just collapsing on the sofa in front of the TV when the boys have a nap. The house is a complete tip. Sort of kept up with everyone's news.

We have been doing some potty training here this week and it seems to be sinking in now, still a few accidents. He is fairly stubborn so if I try to prompt him to use the potty there is a definite "No!", left to his own devices he will go and use it, sometimes, but other times I think he forgets he hasn't got his nappy on.
I'm not brave enough to attempt to take him out of the house nappyless yet, well done Neenz!

No idea about nits DG, makes me itch thinking about it too.

Hope the morning sickness improves Dewin, I found I just had to eat constantly, as soon as my blood sugar dropped I felt sick. I used to have 2nd, sometimes 3rd breakfasts and a bag full of cereal bars to get out of the house.
Sympathy to the other pregnant ladies suffering too.

Good luck with the move Deb!

I like Miranda as well.

Better go I have TV to watch and a sofa to lounge on.

neenz · 19/11/2010 18:04

I like Miranda too. Hi ktpie Smile

That's fascinating Knitting, very exciting meeting Tony Benn never mind working for him! I really like our MP Rolf tho I don't read his column in the paper very often - I will start doing that now. I met him after the election and he seemed very passionate and informed. I suppose he is just writing about what is going on in westminster, he did do a lot of work toward the new relief road in Thornton.

I took the twins out this aft and they both had a wee on the potty while we were out. No accidents today. My mum has drilled it into me that once you start potty training and they get the hang of it you don't put their nappies back on ever except for sleep. It makes sense cos if you keep putting the nappies back on it must be confusing. So I don't Smile. The poo the other day was solid so there was no mess Hmm and the wee was absorbed by the pants so no puddle even! It is still heaps easier than washing nappies. I think it is going really well!

Dewin, love your welshness! and great that you got noticed in london speaking welsh.

PiggyPenguin · 19/11/2010 18:22

On nits, I use the nitty gritty comb which I would recommend. It pulls eggs and lice from the hair without using any kind of shampoo. I found it to be really effective ( and we have had the nits several times in this house) I also am not keen on using the shampoos as ds1 has eczema and I'm not sure what they would do to his skin.

Its just seems kinder to the kids to not put something so strong that it kills things on their heads! I appreciate that I may be overthinking this though.

Good to see that lots of people like Miranda! I showed it to my mum today as I had skyplused it, she loved it but my dad hated it. Both my mum and I agreed that she has definitely used that 'I'm doing a white wash, do your knickers need doing' line to me. Oh the shame!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 19/11/2010 20:36

Thanks sybil. I found good reviews of that comb on here but annoyingly everywhere I tried was sold out. S is staying with GPs tomorrow and spending time with cousins, so I ended up buying some treatment stuff and we've used that tonight just to be on the safe side. I know what you mean about putting strong stuff on their heads. I'm definitely going to try and get that comb and keep that for future use.

Amberc · 19/11/2010 20:36

How about this from Boots:

Nice 'n Clear is a naturally effective head lice repellant lotion. It is extremely safe and gentle and can be used regularly by all members of the family to ensure quick and effective head lice removal.

DebInAustria · 19/11/2010 21:15

sealed the last box up as the wagon was reversing up our very narrow road, talk about last minute panic. But happy to report that it all got packed in time and is now on it's way.

SpiderWilliam · 19/11/2010 22:21

Well done Deb. You're still online though, will you still have Internet access over the next few weeks?

systemsaddict · 20/11/2010 08:59

Hooray Deb! Dewin and Amber sending all sympathies, being pregnant can really suck. Dewin I lived on salt and vinegar squares for 3 months so if you can't get hold of Bears ...

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 20/11/2010 09:17

Thanks Amber - I'll have a look when I'm in boots.

Hurrah Deb! Hope the journey to your new home goes well.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 20/11/2010 12:35

Am really miffed - DH called for jury service on 21st December. While we both keen on civic duty etc it's just such a terrible time. Due to ill health, DH has been doing the work of two people for months and is finishing up for Christmas on 17th. We have lots of nice plans that week and DH was planning to get a well earned rest before the busy Christmas mayhem. Am very Sad for him.

Hardandsleazy · 20/11/2010 14:14

Dgt can you not say you are booked to go away- I think that is a valid excuse although it only defers the service.

neenz · 20/11/2010 17:45

oh dg that sucks Sad. holiday story sounds worth trying.

i have brought esther up to be the most ungirly girl, not bothered if she wants to be girly but dont want it thrust on her. anyway when she is coloring in there is only one pen she wants - pink Confused

Hardandsleazy · 20/11/2010 18:09

Neenz I feel
Your pain- I can just about tolerate Disney princess films but draw the line at Angelina ballerina(and I love ballet)

PiggyPenguin · 20/11/2010 18:46

Neenz I am sure I have written many times on here how much I hate pink - and dd is a pink princess. Sometimes it is out of your hands I'm afraid.

DG I have a feeling you have to prove holiday plans although I may be wrong. I have done jury duty, it was during the summer holidays and after two days of sitting around we were went home for the rest of the fortnight as everyone had plea bargined. Apparently it is quite common during holiday periods. Fingers crossed this works out for you too.

PiggyPenguin · 20/11/2010 18:47

sent home, not went home! doh

Amberc · 20/11/2010 20:06

Oh no DG - what a pain - you could purchase the cheapest hoiday known to mankind as your proof!

Deb - what a relief - now it's the unpacking!

We had two wees on the potty today and he tolerated pants - very pleased!

Rolf · 20/11/2010 21:14

Fingers in ears and hands over eyes about potty training!

Neenz I'm not very pink, and nor is DD1. They had own clothes day at school yesterday and she wanted to go in wearing a track suit! T, on the other hand, is a pink fluffball Hmm.

DG that is crap about jury duty. How rotten for your DH. I hope that it gets sorted out for the two of you. What a crappy start to the Christmas holidays.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 20/11/2010 22:56

DGIT I'll see your potential nits and jury duty (poor DH) and raise you sodding chicken pox 2 days before my EDD. Sad I now have to hope I go overdue until the pox crust over, or DH and C will have to take an enforced break at grandparents (1.45h drive away) house when baby is born. DH will have to go too, or poor C will feel like she's been sent away because Mummy and Daddy have a new baby. SadSadSad what bloody awful timing. We are busy making several different contingency plans now. arrgghhhh.

C, on the other hand, doesn't appear ill yet at all, and we only spotted the pox when she insisted on putting on her dancing skirt to watch strictly - they are appearing fast now though. Have cut her nails v short tonight (I rememeber rolf advocating this - thsnks!) any other advice for poxy 2 year olds?

Hardandsleazy · 21/11/2010 08:39

Oh no- dgt - hoping c crusts over rIght away ( also feeling better about forking out to get Edie vaccinated ). A friend said if you get liquid Zovirax and give it ti them now ( in first day) that significantly cuts down severity.

SpiderWilliam · 21/11/2010 08:48

Biscuits that's awful, poor you, your DH and C Sad. how does she look this morning?

Sympathy also for the nits and jury service woes.

Last day of paternity leave here. Feeling apprehensive about tomorrow to say the least. P has taken to consistently starting the day at 5 all week, and nothing can convince him to stay in his bed or ours. Not sure how we are going to handle it without two adults to take it it turns to catch up on sleep.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 21/11/2010 09:12

Oh Biscuits, how rubbish. How is C today? S had the pox not that long ago - he had a really bad night the first night, but after that was right as rain. He was very good at not scratching though - we only put calamine lotion on at bedtime in case he got itchy in the night. Really hope she crusts over quickly though.

Thanks for all the sympathy on jury duty. DH wouldn't even contemplate telling a fib to defer it unfortunately. You do have to prove any holidays etc, but I did suggest that at that time of year we could say we were going to visit family in England for the Christmas holidays. DH wouldn't have it though. Fingers crossed he won't be needed.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 21/11/2010 09:16

Spider, I hope tomorrow goes ok. If you have to, could you get up with Peter but put him in front of cbeebies for a bit while you have a nap on the sofa?

Rolf · 21/11/2010 10:20

Oh Biscuits, what awful timing. My girls had it very mildly - it was all over in a few days, so hopefully that will be C's experience, too. I made sure I had plenty of calpol, and calamine mixed with aqueous cream, which is much easier to apply than regular calamine. But I hardly needed it at all. Try to treat is as an opportunity for you to stay quiet and cosy at home and do nice things with C before the baby arrives. I can't remember what your labour plan is for C (I know your mother is on double-standby!) - is it CP-proof?

I bet the tension of hoping that C is better before the baby comes, will hold off labour for a while Smile.

DG good on your DH Smile.

Spider good luck tomorrow. My first day with all 3 at home, after DD1 was born, I ran myself a bath and put DD1's bouncy chair in the bathroom so I could keep an eye on her whilst I was bathing. The boys put their little chairs on either side so they could all watch me (in my post natal glory!) have a bath Grin
