New halloween inspired thread (in honour of this time of year) to talk about our little jekyll & hydes [hgrin]

Is anyone going to be taking their little ones trick or treating this year? We'll be at MIL's for Halloween and she's already told me she has both Danny and DS1 costumes -so it appears that decision has been made for us Grin

Hi littlesez
That's ok re Izzy and the tv, they are educational programs that she is clearly learning from.
I have read that a good thing to do is when she watches a program, like I Can Cook, for example, when it has finished, make a thing of turning the tv off so she sees it's ok to watch a program, but when it has finished, she does something else and that the tv isn't there to be on all day.
I do not do this, my tv is on if we are at home Blush

Thank god for doing your wrapping early Summerrain - hope the leak has got fixed by now.

Silverymoon - good luck for tomorrow. Hope you get a decent night's sleep tonight and feel better in the morning.

hey all. Interview went really well.
The head teacher told me she was shocked when she learnt I didn't have any qualifications, she said that she assumed I was NVQ'd NNEB'd, the lot.
Then she told me that from what she has seen of me (she teaches my class P.E. on a day when all permanent staff are off so I normally take lead), she thinks I am one of the most intuitive workers she has come across!!!!!
Get in!
I will find out by the end of tomorrow if I've got the job.

SilveryMoon · 09/12/2010 16:46

I got the job!!!! Woo-hoo

SummerRain · 09/12/2010 17:28

Congrats SM Grin

swampster · 09/12/2010 17:31

Congratulations SM on the job. I've already congratulated MsLucy on baby news on Facebook and in person.

Calico1 · 09/12/2010 22:17

Fab news SM! x

SilveryMoon · 10/12/2010 06:54

Thanks everyone. Grin

I'm off work again today with this lurgy.
It's ds1's nativity today, he is a sheep so looking forward to that.
I'm feeling better than I did yesterday so might push my luck and pop into town for a bit this morning.

Luke seems to have this bug as well. he is really miserable and clingy so keeping him dosed up as well.

rosieposey · 10/12/2010 08:04

Morning all :) Long time no see. How is everyone?

All ok here and nothing exciting to tell really. Oh DH has a new job as a financial director at a more local company Grin so were are really happy about that as have been really struggling on a 25% pay cut that his current job made him take a few months ago. Trouble is that we have gotten in to some debt trying to survive on his reduced income so thats going to take us a couple of years to pay back but hey - its good news and it means no more commuting for 4 hours plus a day.

Milo is he usual ebullient self. Still not talking much but he is saying words and seems to be quite good at repeating them. He understands everything though. Looking at what you were saying MOS about H still having a bottle for comfort a page or so back rings true here as well. Milo always has a bottle on waking and going to sleep - i know he shouldn't but i asks for it and tbh i have tried a cup of milk at bedtime and he was just so sad and crying and asking for his bottle that i thought a few more months wont hurt i suppose Hmm

How is everyone getting on in this cold? I have had a really shitty cold and am trying to stay in as long as possible, this brief respite the freezing temps this weekend is very welcome.

SM am glad you got your job :) hope you feel better soon.

Dinky, hope your back is on the mend - i saw you said you were having some difficulty parking your XC90 - does yours have reverse sensors on? Mine does and its a whole lot easier - I'm swinging it around like a Mini now!

Calico and MOS sorry to hear you are having such trouble with your respective nurseries. Calico thats awful :( I cant believe they havent done anything or offered some type of recompense - they were neglegent! MOS your nursery manager sounds really unprofessional, i would be having words on that basis alone. They surely must have a better way forward than raising their voices at the parents on their charges.

Little sez - i saw your win on FB - congratulations :)

STW - nice to see you, WB.

Hope i havent forgotton anyone, sorry if i have. I often think about you all on here, i read on mumsnet in the evening but dont post that much, however i never forget about the fab Febbers Grin I cannot believe that my baby is so grown up now, i do miss my baby but my toddler is alot of fun!

SweetTalkinWoman · 10/12/2010 12:40

How are you feeling SM? Huge congratulations on the job offer - you've worked so hard for it! I hope Orlena is lucky enough to have someone like you when she starts in January Smile.

Lovely to hear from Rosie and Littlesez!

SummerRain - phew that your pressies were safe from the leak! Isn't online shopping great. Most of my Christmas stuff has come from Amazon or Ebay. RE dyspraxia, I don't know too much about it, but does it come with some behavioural challenges? My mum is convinced my niece is dyspraxic (she's 11). She's quite "clumsy" etc, and also seems a bit immature for her age - nothing serious but just a bit different.

Not enjoying work today - there's an awful atmosphere. The bosses wife had an ovarian tumour removed earlier in the year, and now the cancer has spread to her vertebrae - not looking good. Boss just made some awful statements and walked out Sad.

Anyway, off to M&S in a minute so better be off, but have a great weekend everyone!

littlesez · 10/12/2010 13:33

woooooooooo SM Grin

elkiedee · 10/12/2010 13:59

Rosie, DS1 (3, born May 07) still has bottles for comfort, though he's quite capable of drinking out of a cup and does at nursery and cafes etc. C has bottles at childminder and sometimes other times and I feed him in the mornings, just recently stopped most evening feeds - it's not really about feeding him or not, it's the likelihood that I'll fall asleep for the rest of the evening if I do.

D (DS1) wants to be babied all the time, C is in a hurry to grow up, and sometimes it's really funny. I suppose the competition between them will change.

Honestly, there are more important things to worry about than your little ones still using a bottle.

dinkystinky · 10/12/2010 15:17

Oh STW - that's terrible news about your boss' wife. That poor family Sad

Re dyspraxia - it can be accompanied with behavioural issues. Not liking loud noises (tick for DS1), clumsiness (tick), lack of attention at times (tick), some sensory issues (first non tick) and a whole host of other things - but as with everything there is a massive spectrum.

Rosie - lovely to hear about M and so pleased your DH has got a new job which is making his life easier and everyone happier. I agree with Elkie - dont worry about getting rid of the bottle if its just at a particular time of day. Danny still has bottles too - and bfs, though he's recently started refusing morning and evening bfs so suspect he's finally self weaning.

OP posts:
SummerRain · 10/12/2010 20:21

STW... dinky has it spot on, i found this site helpful when trying to figure out if ds1 has it(and myself for that matter). In ds1's case he has terrible gross motor skills and his fine motor stuff isn't great either although is improving. He has sensory issues and is incredibly fidgety and finds it hard to concentrate. As dinky has said though the symptoms are fairly broad spectrum and no one with dyspraxia will tick every box.

Rosie... congrats on your dh's new job, that must be such a relief for you guys Xmas Smile As for the bottles... it took so long gor A to be able to take a bottle in the first place i couldn't care less about dropping them now. He's happy and both paeds and SALT are happy that he's managing them so there's absolutely no reason to stop. He has a dummy too as well and i'm not bothered about that either, both my older two gave it to Santa when they were 3 so he has a while before i'd even consider taking it from him.... it's all good exercise for his jaw anyway Xmas Wink

manic day here... kids were in school at 10.30 (first day this week) and myself and the playschool committee chairperson had some stuff to sort so she was here until 11.20, at which point A had only just crawled out of bed (after keeping me awake all night.. little sod!), had to run to toddler group where i bumped into the PTA chair (did i mention i got roped into being assistant chair Xmas Grin) and ended up having to go to the wholesalers for supplies for the school fayre on sunday... as well as do my own shopping and collect my christmas tree... the car was so loaded down on the way back i'm surprised the suspension didn't crack under the strain Xmas Grin

On the plus side I got my hands on a gorgeous bushy tree and am having great fun decorating it!

Calico1 · 10/12/2010 20:22

Hi all

Good to hear from you Rosie - brill news about your DH's new job. Like the others say I wouldn't worry to much about the bottle thing. DS (3.5) sometimes asks for one at bedtime but Lilian refuses anything that isn't in her cup.

STW - sorry to hear that about your bosses wife Sad.

All ok here - just gearing up for 4 x toddler Christmas parties next week. I am supposed to be supplying cakes and biscuits so I had better get baking this weekend. I have been checking out the other nurseries in the area this week - thinking I might move them in the new year but there are no vacancies for the two of them on the days I need until July! So I will leave it and see how things go with the current nursery.....
Lilian has one more hospital appointment in Jan but her hand is healing well so it is just a check-up. Still not sure if it will scar - the new skin is all purpley red but doesn't seem to be tender any more.

DH had the kids today as I had to do a pitch for a potential art commission. Really hope I get it as it is a major piece of work and would boost my meagre income substantially. The interview went very well but I won't hear if I've got it until Xmas eve!

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

dinkystinky · 13/12/2010 17:21

Where is everyone?

We got our xmas tree yesterday - and both Danny and DS1 enjoyed helping us decorate it. As I left for work this morning, Danny was enjoying systematically removing all his favourite decorations from the tree Hmm Grin

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 13/12/2010 17:21

ps good luck vibes in your direction for your commission Calico...

OP posts:
Calico1 · 13/12/2010 20:05

Dinky Lilian has been doing the same to our tree - tis bald along the bottom and she seems to like to group all the baubles together on one side Hmm

dinkystinky · 13/12/2010 20:48

Danny's favourite decorations on our tree are little felt bus decorations - he pulls them off and likes to make a traffic jam of buses, rather like on kilburn high road near us Grin Then he gets the big baubles off the tree and rolls them around the room for some reason....

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 13/12/2010 21:19

Hi guys.
dinky and calico all that with the tree decs sounds so sweet!
We haven't put our up yet, going to do it next week. Jacob is so so excited for christmas, I didn't want to make it too long a wait for him.
He's calling it a 'Father Christmas Tree' Grin

Luke's still a bit poorly, the CM said he hasn't eaten again today and has slept an awful lot.
She's getting herself a bit worried about him not eating, but I told her a long as he's drinking plenty not to worry too much, he is a big enough boy that it won't hurt him to be off his food for a few days.

I went back to work today, everyone had heard that I got the job and were all pleased, so that was nice.

dinkystinky · 14/12/2010 12:15

Ah, love J's "Father Christmas tree". Hope L gets better soon SM. DS1 has a bug today and is off school - high temperature - he's gutted as he loves school and desperately wants to get better for his class chrsitmas party tomorrow.

Sounds like things have improved at work so fingers crossed all is on the up for you Grin

Thanks dinky. I have spoken to all the staff and it seems because I was with that troublesome lad a lot, the brunt of the disagreement to his handling plan fell on me.
Nevermind, all is ok now although I won't forget it and will be on my guard.

Hope your ds1 is feeling better and can attend his party tomorrow x
