New halloween inspired thread (in honour of this time of year) to talk about our little jekyll & hydes [hgrin]

Is anyone going to be taking their little ones trick or treating this year? We'll be at MIL's for Halloween and she's already told me she has both Danny and DS1 costumes -so it appears that decision has been made for us Grin

oogs sorry to hear about the pox - it really is the pits.
Angus (the older one) got it twice - once very mildly as a baby and once very severely just before his third birthday.

He found it very upsetting and still has quite a few scars.

I didn't want Stan to have to go through this and heard you can get them vaccinated privately. So I took him to a place off Harley Street in the summer - no side effects and so far, so good.

I am normally 100 per cent NHS, but felt that if I could spend £200 and prevent the misery of the pox, it was well worth it. It's a standard practice in the US and I've read stuff saying the NHS was planning to bring in the vaccine here but got put off by all the MMR controversy.

I only found out about the vaccine by accident but will definitely do the same for DC3 when he turns up.

Hello. We did Pox over Easter last year. I was stuck at home for a MONTH!!! All three went down with it, DS1 first followed by DS2 and DS3. It wasn't so bad though. Top tip is a spoonful of porridge oats in a pop sock in the bath to stop itching. And bicarbonate of soda paste or a spoonful of it in the bath. Don't use calamine on the face as it can cause scarring. And antihistamines like Piriton are your best friend.

I think they vaccinate routinely in the States but the vaccination does increase your chances of getting shingles later which is pretty nasty too. Once they hit the teens, pox becomes much more serious so if you get that far without having had it it is a really good idea to get jabbed.

Still b-f :D

Please go sign this petition to stop school league tables for five year olds. Life is pressured enough already!

dinkystinky · 17/01/2011 11:42

Hello all - if you get any emails from my yahoo account (those who have done previous meet ups/exchanged emails or on facebook) please ignore it - some bastard hacker is trying to get their hands on your cash. I'm fine if rather annoyed. Fortuantely they sent an email to me at my work address so I knew precisely what had happened Angry

Swampster - finally a good use for the hideous monstrosity that are popsocks Grin Wish I'd known about the the scarring - poor DS1 has lots of scars on his torso from the pox a few years back. How crap to do school league tables for 5 yos!

OP posts:
swampster · 17/01/2011 11:45

Tempted to email back to say I've sent the cash just to wind the bastard up. Angry

swampster · 17/01/2011 11:46

I chopped up tights and knotted both ends. Then realised I'd butchered up the wrong bloody pair - not the el cheapos...

Calico1 · 17/01/2011 12:35

Oh sorry to hear about the pox attacks oooggs ! DS had it very mildly at 9 months (only 6 spots) - didn't realise you could get it twice - was very smug that he got away with it so easily!

Dinky what a nightmare with your cyberhacker!

I'm off to Newcastle for a couple of days work - leaving DH to look after DCs - very tempted not to stock up the fridge, do the washing, sort out change bag / pre-school bag, etc before I go - just so that he gets a taste for what it is really like trying to keep it all together.....tee hee Grin

DS has been waking up several times a night recently - asking whether it is time to get up yet.....I have just bought a Gro Clock - in the hope that he'll see that he can only get up when the sun is shining.....we'll see. Last night he hollered for me at 3am and when I went into his room he asked me if we had any macaroni in the cupboard - odd child Hmm

oooggs · 17/01/2011 19:41

SummerRain ? I hope he is ok for his birthday too!!! He is much brighter today so really hoping for a decent nights sleep all round Wink. I hope you don?t get 3 at once, 2 is bad enough!

Dinkystinky ? Yes she is a dramaqueen Grin and Luke skipped his nap today ? I am not really to give it up yet Shock. Enjoy your break away from dcs Wink

Silverymoon ? thank you and they are getting better but slowly. I hated learning to drive, but wouldn?t be without it now. Luke isn?t even on the lowest level of the cot yet, he loves it in there and it is easy for me I am in no rush for him to go into a bed.

Mslucy ? I have never heard of a vaccine for chicken pox before

Swampster ? not impressed with league tables at 5 years old Sad

Calico1 ? I have been told (no idea if true) that if they get it mildly under 12 months then there is a high chance they could get a 2nd dose!!!

Please just let me have a good nights sleep so I can keep up with the world Grin

dinkystinky · 17/01/2011 20:47

My BIL had the pox vaccine (lives in the US, never had chicken pox as a child) a few years back as he and SIL were coming over to the UK to spend xmas with us and MIL and my family when DS1 had the pox - from what I recall he felt quite ill with it. And it could (though they're not sure) increase the risk of getting shingles in adults. But he didnt get the pox off DS1 and that was what mattered.

Fingers crossed for your good night's sleep tonight Oooggs.

SM - focus on how great it will be when you can drive to work and back and not be reliant on DP. I took me around 9 attempts to pass my test - bet you'll pass well before that Grin Am impressed at Luke being in a bed - no way in hell I'd trust danny to stay in one!

Calico - hope you have a good trip away. Remember to remind DH about changing nappies while you're away or I dread to think what you'll come back to Wink

ps Bunnyclock worked a treat for us with DS1 - hope it does with your DS too.

result last night dt2 (Jack) went 7pm - 7.45am and Luke went 6.45pm - 5.30am (tad of milk) then slept til 8.15am Grin I feel slightly human!!!!

SummerRain · 18/01/2011 11:22

great news oooggs Grin

dinkystinky · 18/01/2011 20:36

Glad you got a good nights sleep last night Oooggs - fingers crossed your clan are all on the mend now.

So, anyone remember whose little one's birthday comes up first? I think Herbgarden's little girl arrived around now didnt she?

OP posts:
SummerRain · 18/01/2011 21:03

I think she was about 4 weeks before A.... give me a minute and i'll root out the birth announcement thread.....

SummerRain · 18/01/2011 21:27

Sorry, couldn't go further than the 28th as A is shouting at me so there's a few 'still due' on this one!

swampster · 18/01/2011 21:58

TinkerBellesMum was first.

dinkystinky · 19/01/2011 08:40

Ah yes, had forgotten Tinkerbellesmum - think she flounced from MN some time ago. Well happy birthday to Luke for tomorrow Oooggs - hope the pox has well and truly left your house today in time for the little man's birthday tomorrow.

OP posts:
SummerRain · 19/01/2011 10:13

We've dwindled in number somewhat since then haven't we?!

Happy birthday Luke for tomorrow in case i don't get back on later Smile Hope he's not too sick to enjoy being spoiled!

oooggs · 19/01/2011 10:27

I was thinking in the shower (not a pretty thought!!) this morning of digging out that list - and you beat me to it Grin

Boys seem fine now - wow they are all going to be 2 Shock

MrsY · 19/01/2011 13:02

Hellooooo!

So today is the first real fab febbers birthday? Awesome!

That birth announcement list brought tears to my eyes, can't believe it's been nearly 2 years. Hope everyone is ok, M is gorgeous, chatty and energetic and I think I have a funny flu-type, but other than that, we're well. Work is fab, although I'm knackered from through the night shifts placing furniture, and J is waiting to hear about a promotion. We're also looking at selling the house and thinking about no.2, so 2011 could be a busy day!

My NYR is to try and be better about staying in touch with people (which includes all you lovely ladies) so I will try and be about more!

Will try and catch up through the thread to see what has happened.

x

SummerRain · 19/01/2011 14:38

Mrsy... don't read the threads from Feb 2009 whatever you do.... i sobbed Blush

dinkystinky · 19/01/2011 14:43

Ah, bless Summerrain - hope it was a good cathartic sob. Lovely to see you on MrsY - hope you recover from your lurgy soon and good to hear all otherwise good with you guys. Good resolution too Smile

OP posts:
MrsY · 19/01/2011 23:15

SR - I remember my absolute guilt at gibbering on about how yummy M was and then reading your posts.

I also remember about as the list grew and grew thinking that it was never going to be my day and I was doomed to be pregnant for ever!

SummerRain · 20/01/2011 12:45

I honestly hadn't noticed... I felt really horrible unloading my horror story on all of you who were either trying to enjoy new babies or worrying about impending birth yourselves but i desperately needed to talk it through and no one in RL wanted to listen. I certainly never expected anyone to feel bad gushing about their yummy baby just because things hadn't gone completely to plan for me, I'm so sorry you felt bad Sad

dinkystinky · 20/01/2011 15:15

Summerrain - that's what this board is for! We were all here with you, worrying about you and A, and hoping that he'd be ok. And look at him now 2 years later, full of beans, happy and healthy and ready to take over the world (well almost). Word of warning - we'll be in Ireland for my sister's wedding at some point this year: we'll need to make sure that he and Danny do not meet or they really will become the Toddler Overlords of the Universe Grin

OP posts:
MrsY · 20/01/2011 15:25

It's so awful that no-one else was there for you. That's exactly what we're for, though - look at Riven...
