New halloween inspired thread (in honour of this time of year) to talk about our little jekyll & hydes [hgrin]

Is anyone going to be taking their little ones trick or treating this year? We'll be at MIL's for Halloween and she's already told me she has both Danny and DS1 costumes -so it appears that decision has been made for us Grin

glad you're feeling better calico... your mom sounds like a star Smile And the best part is by tomorrow you'll be starting to miss them so will really appreciate having them home!

dinky... she's a lunatic... bizarre priorities, only does the 'granny' stuff as she likes to tell people that she did it and clearly favours dd to the point that ds1 is noticing the differance in treatment Angry I'm not even surprised anymore when she does stuff like leaving him dirty and hungry. It's the first time she had ever gotten up with the kids for me and it went about as well as i expected it to (I had to get up to get them all their clothes and deal with them while she 'got herself sorted' fgs!)

Calico1 · 07/01/2011 17:26

I know I'm lucky, though still glad that mum lives an hour away Wink
Dad just sent me some lovely photos of DC's playing nicely together and I have to admit I wanted to pick up the phone and demand they brought them back to me now - sniff!

SR that's crazy!

I do remember when I was heavily pregnant with Lilian and DH took DS who was about 18 months old away to MIL for the weekend to give me some rest - poor DS came back with the worst nappy rash I have seen due to nobody changing his nappy! I think DH changed it once at bedtime but I remember thinking that they had only used one nappy for a whole weekend fgs! God knows how MIL brought up three sons - though that explains a lot actually.....

littlesez · 07/01/2011 22:28

I am lucky my MIL and mum are both super! although they both have arthritis in their wrists and it makes ot hard for them to pick up izzy.

few still bf'ing then i thought i might be on my own. wow HOM 4.5. I kinda think i will let izzy slef wean but honestly i am not sure i keep reassessing. Early days when i had a lot of troupble i said 6 months then that was it, then it was a year then 18 months and now 2 but oh thats next month not going to happen. so 2 1/2 it si then Grin

might not be on much now i have started selling my knitting so got a few ordered in the pipeling i really wish i could m'net and knit at same time Smile

Hi ladies just a quick pop in (as usual Wink) ok Luke is 2 in 11 days - where did the time go????

How is everyone? - new pregnancies?, arrivals? news? I can only confirm that there won't be anymore babies in this household Grin

dinkystinky · 10/01/2011 08:44

Hiya Oooggs - lovely to see you on. I bet your house is full to busting with all the kids you do have. Hope all is well with you and your family. I too am in shock about our little ones turning 2 so soon - time seems to have flown by and Danny with his going to sleep lament and morning wake up call of "Mummy, mummy, MUMMEEE!" seems such a fixture in our lives I'm finding it quite hard to remember what life was like before he came along, when it was just me, DH and DS1.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Busy one here - took the kids to Borough market on Saturday morning, then walk along the southbank and trip to Tate modern (which the boys loved) then to the Move exhibition (modern art/dance exhibition) at the Hayward Gallery which Danny slept through in his buggy and DS1 loved (Littlesez - struck me as just your kind of thing - keep an eye for it as has now closed in London but may go touring) then late lunch and then home just in time for their tea - and then yesterday was Bagpuss in the Soho theatre in the morning (which was excellent - DS1 was TRANSFIXED and they both love their little bagpuss and marvellous mechanical mice toys I bought them), lunch out, home for nap time for Danny then park in afternoon. Not sure if its all the experiences or the cold air but they both slept brilliantly at nights over the weekend!

Wow Dinky that was certainly an activity-packed weekend! You put me to shame. We only managed interminable games of Star Wars and pottering about in the garden.

No oooggs definitely expect no baby news here. I am too old and knackered and find the idea of parents outnumbered by children frankly terrifying!

I don't know about turning two, Tarran seems to think he is five! He is playing with all DS1's toys and can even put Lego together, which DS1 couldn't do until recently! He has also developed toilet humour; yesterday he was singing nursery rhymes but replacing the lyrics with "wee" and "poo" and today when we picked DS1 up from school he was bellowing "bums" at the top of his voice all the way along the footpath. I am so proud...

oooggs · 11/01/2011 12:34

Yes THOM - that has happened here, Luke maybe nearly two, but with 3 older siblings he choice in toys is well above whatever ds1 chose to play with (but he is still my baby Wink)

SummerRain · 11/01/2011 15:16

lol, there are some advantages to a non verbal child after all WinkGrin

Nice to see you both back again Smile

dinkystinky · 11/01/2011 15:31

Ah but THOM - no garden (in top floor rental flat) so we have to get out and about at the weekends - if only to prevent the boys going stir crazy and our poor put upon downstairs neighbours lynching us Grin

Danny is pretty non-vocal too SR (funny, I thought he'd be more of a talker than DS1 at this age and he's much less) - he tends to gesture, use his eyebrows (he has verrrrrry expressive eyebrows) or single words to communicate - but even he thinks he's older than his big brother. He gets very put out when I tell him he cant play with x, y or z because he's too small.

OP posts:
SummerRain · 11/01/2011 16:48

I've given up telling A he can't play with certain toys... the only things i snatch from him are dd's DS and camera as he has a habit of chucking stuff when he's done with it. He's the only one out of the three that plays with the Leappad books that someone gave the kids last year and is a big fan of all the playmobil and sylvanian animals that have infested the house since Christmas and it wouldn't be worth the trauma to remove him from dd's room and all her highly unsuitable toys!

He has learned to nod and shake his head recently which is hilarious as you can actaully have little 'conversations' with him now. More SALT on thursday and for the first time ever i can proudly proclaim he has a word Grin (although as Mama works so well to get him what he wants he doesn't reserve it for me... dp has it shouted at him on a regular basis too)

I'm loving Danny's expressive eyebrows... A is the master of pouting and the trembling lower lip. He gestures a lot too so i'm going to ask the SALT about signing with him (the Irish version of Makaton is only available through SALT for some godforsaken reason so i can't get books or materials online for it)

dinkystinky · 12/01/2011 16:23

Sounds like the SALT is going really well SummerRain- am really pleased! Aah, love th epouting and trembling lower lip. Danny when put out does Mick Jagger type pouts (this is after the epic tantrum and eyebrow pleading of course).

OP posts:
Calico1 · 13/01/2011 07:53

SR and Dinky - love the pouts and comedy eyebrows. Lilian does the trembly lip thing when she is displeased with me refusing her demand for 'weeties' (sweets). She also snorts and does some impressive nostril flaring when she is in a real mood - hilarious Grin

SummerRain · 13/01/2011 20:44

Well A is getting an 'assessment of need' and hopefully we'll get started on some signing soon. He'll be starting in some group SALT session soon too (lord only knows how he'll take that!)

He threw the most almighty tantrum there (gave himself a blood nose and everything... most impressive) so now the SALT also wants him psychologically assessed Hmm Bless the naivity of mothers with only one little baby.... she'll learn in time [evil grin]

dinkystinky · 14/01/2011 09:24

But arent epic tantrums the norm in nearly 2 year olds? Confused

My parents and sister (now back from travelling) came round for an hour or so before Danny and DS1's bedtime last night - the boys were delighted to see them, eat cake and crisps with impunity before bedtime and show them all their toys and in Danny's case, his drawings (yells of "Look!Look! Bubble!" resounded down the stairwell as DH came home) - as a result he was too excited to go to sleep when I finally wrangled him into bed and was awake lots in the night, poor poppet. Dont envy our nanny's job today.

OP posts:
SummerRain · 14/01/2011 09:46

I'm sure in a years time she'll be watching her lo throw an epic wobbler and think back to that conversation and Blush We were all a bit clueless when we had tiny little PFBs Grin

There have to be two services specified on the Assessment of Need and he doesn't need anything other than SALT so i'm not too bothered, at least the psychologist might confirm what i've been saying all along; that his mental ability to understand language is fantastic and it's only the lack of ability to make sounds thats delaying his speech... that'll help when dealing with some of the docs i've encountered (one told me, after spending 20 seconds with A, 'He's clearly not autistic so we don't worry about speech until 3, he's just slow to develop'.... even though i'd specified all the other problems he's had with his mouth Hmm)

Poor Danny and poor you having to haul yourself to work after a night like that, at least he had fun with your family though... I'm sure a nice quiet day with the nanny will have him right as rain and full of beans for tonight Wink

oooggs · 14/01/2011 18:11

outbreak of chicken pox in the house. dt1 just recovering after it started on New Years day and today dt2 & Luke have come out in it!!!! fan - bloody - tastic Wink

SummerRain · 14/01/2011 18:15

oh ooogs.... sorry to hear that. At least you're getting them all over and done with it in one burst though Wink

oooggs · 14/01/2011 18:19

very true just to get through the next week of cabin fever and then all 4 have had it!!!!

Just hopiong the boys don't get it as bad/or are better petients than dd Wink

SummerRain · 14/01/2011 18:24

In this house the boys are always better patients than the girl.... she's a drama queen of epic proportions and milks any illness for months afterwards (thank god she doesn't get sick often!)

oooggs · 15/01/2011 19:29

to top it all SummerRain dd is still trying to milk the pox illness and she has been back at pre school a week!!!! She is unbelieveable Shock the boys are doing very well but Luke is struggling and I have never seen so many spots!

SummerRain · 15/01/2011 19:46

Poor Luke... it's always worse when they're too little to understand what's happening isn't it? Hope he's alright for his birthday. Your dd sounds like mine.... she's only sick once or twice a year but she regularily comes out with statments like 'Remember when I was sick and threw up in bed Mommy?' Erm yes... that was 6 months ago you daft child!

dinkystinky · 15/01/2011 20:58

Oh no Oooggs that's rubbish -hope the little ones get over the pox quickly. Your DD sounds like a little dramaqueen Grin If Luke likes the bath, stick him in an lukewarm oatmeal bath for hours on end - kept DS1 semihappy when he came down with the pox at 20 months! Hope he's ok for his birthday, poor little man.

Danny absolutely refused to have a nap today - am keeping my fingers crossed that he's not going to drop his naps properly any time soon as he turns into a manic monster come 6pm. Ho hum.

OP posts:
SummerRain · 16/01/2011 11:26

I'm dreading the pox hitting this house... none of them have had it yet so i'll probably end up with 3 at once as well.... eek! Very few of the kids around here have had it so i imagine when i does hit the area the school will be empty for a few weeks lol.

dinky, A is at that awful stage where if he has a nap he's up all night but if he doesn't he's a grouch all evening.... i'm hoping he drops them soon though as i can't cope with many more sleepless nights, I need to be getting coursework done and I can't with him up all evening

SilveryMoon · 16/01/2011 20:08

Hello all.
Apologies for my absence, there's just not enough hours in the day anymore! Wink

SR Hope the SALT stuff goes well and A gets the support he needs.
Speaking of tantrums, Luke was getting himself a bit wound up the other week when my Dad was here. Result, my Dad is now 'concerned' over Luke's clingyness and the extremes of his tantrums (he made himself vomit, the lot), then me telling my Dad that Luke is not even 2 yet, that he has lots of time to learn how to channel his emotions appropriately blah blah blah blah.

oooggs Hope all the dc's are better now and fully recovered from the C.P's

dinky Luke is nearly there with dropping his naps. The lady that has the boys whilst I work says that he curls up on the sofa on his own when he gets tired, but that he is doing it later and later so she thinks pretty soon he'll be awake all day.

I had a driving lesson today. Went ok I think. I was really nervous but suppose that'll ease off after a few lessons and I'll get better at it.
£25 per hour. I'm doing 90 min lessons for now.

Luke is doing really well in the big bed and I have now taken the cot down.
can't believe both my babies are growing so quick
