Dewin my girls are 3 years apart. Not much help for you as I'm a SAHM. It's fine, really. It means the older child can be a nursery when the new one comes along, so you're not managing 2 tinies all the time. The older one is safer in the bath, for example, or eating, so it's less nerve-wracking. My girls both play together very well now, and love each other's company. They won't be compared to each other in the way my boys will be, with a much closer age gap.

I guess if you are going the morning drop-offs etc, then there's longer when they are being dropped off at different places: DC1 at school and DC2 at nursery.

Lots of things that make it fine, actually Smile.

Right, must be going on the day. They are back to school today Sad and I'm so tempted to keep them at home for another day. They all had bad nights (too much Hallowe'en!) and dodgy tummies (ditto). One house on our road was so scary that half the children ran screaming back down the drive Grin. I couldn't find our hairy spiders, which we hang in the front windows, so we didn't get many trick or treaters.

Dewin - I am having the exact same wobbles (although a bit late for me!) Just getting back on track etc, child sleeping, normal life resuming than wham - all fucked up again. I know where you are coming from. Will be nice for Iestyn to have a playmate though. I try not to think about the first year and focus on the nice bits after then!

Mark is also being an arse - there must be something in the air.

Amberc · 01/11/2010 08:58

PS sorry forgot - well done Deb!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 01/11/2010 09:05

Deb, that's such exciting news - congratulations Grin!

Dewin, of my three in our new NCT group the one with a three year age gap has had by far the easiest time of it in the first year as her DD was so much more independent. Her dh is a pilot so she also spends a lot of time parenting alone when he is away so they made a very conscious decision to wait for a 3 yr age gap and it's worked really well.

I think perhaps it's a little bit harder as they get older as their interests don't necessarily match, but she also has a DD and DS so wouldn't necessarily share similar interests anyway (huge generalisation I know!).

Don't know if that helps?

Equally, if you don't want another don't feel any pressure to do so - there's no rule book that says you have to Smile.

Who is VH on facebook - is it a lapsed MN person - just looking at wedding pics and can't work out who!

Congrats Going! lovely pics on FB

DewinDoeth · 01/11/2010 11:03

Thanks for the support! Keep it coming - I found knitting's remarks (about it being easier Grin) particularly comforting.

But on the rule book and no pressure - well, too late, too late. Grin BFP! Grin

Amberc · 01/11/2010 11:06

COngrats Going - sorry - I said I was useless at remembering who is who!

Dewin - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Gotta learn to knit!!

DewinDoeth · 01/11/2010 11:08

Yeah, Amber, because I'm on double duty with you! Grin Twins, I ask you...!

systemsaddict · 01/11/2010 11:22

KNEW it!! fantastic wonderful great!!!

Tell more! when did you find out?

3 years is a good gap I think. I struggled with 21 months, it was like having 2 babies at once, that extra year makes a lot of difference.

DewinDoeth · 01/11/2010 11:28

I've known for less than 1 day. Smile Still early, though.
Although, it might not be - Systems you've planted a little seed of doubt, because I was assuming it happened this month, but I guess there's a chance that it happened last month, given the qo-days-late 'period' (which could be something else?). So I'm off down to Boots later today to get one of those expensive fancy tests telling you roughly how pg you are. Be quite fun if I'm already ove 1 month gone!

DewinDoeth · 01/11/2010 11:33

Sorry - should be 10-days-late not 'qo'!!

I also think 3 years is a good gap but frankly even if I didn't think that, I'd have to suck it up anyway! Grin I'm a total knicker-checker though because I had one m/c before Iestyn, and I'm not feeling that bad and not been sick once yet - with Iestyn I was sick all day, every day, from before my mp. Shock But it was reassuring in a horrendous way.
I am, however, absolutely dead tired - which I complained about earlier and now I know why - and also emotional: I was struggling to explain why I burst into tears talking to that woman, but again, it's coming clear now...

I don't know what that big wobble yesterday evening was - well, I do, I guess; hormones! - but also my Mum (who doesn't know) asked whether I really did want another baby. Ironic timing. I just had a big panic about ruining everything, but I'm hoping that's normal.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 01/11/2010 11:51

OMG - congratulations Dewin!!!

DebInAustria · 01/11/2010 12:00

Congratulations Dewin, fantastic news xx

PiggyPenguin · 01/11/2010 12:02

Fantastic news Dewin! Grin The 'omg what have I done!' feeling is very normal, it has happened a couple of times in this house! You will be fine though.

Quick, run down to Boots for a fancy test so we know how far along you are.

Rolf · 01/11/2010 12:25

Grin Dewin! Congratulations!

DewinDoeth · 01/11/2010 12:48

Grin thanks!
I now have the test, but I'm wondering about whether I should do it at work or not. It's all men in my dept although there are 3 female phds on my floor. Hmm (One of them got married in the summer so maybe everyone would suspect her!)

going · 01/11/2010 12:48

Dewin - fab news! I had nearly three years between the girls and it was perfect!

Thanks for the congratulations - was so hard to keep it a secret!!!

systemsaddict · 01/11/2010 12:51

Here is how to do it Dewin: Sneak into the ladies' loos with test hidden in handbag; furtively wee on stick and hide it back in handbag; back to your office, lock the door; hold test furtively under desk to check 3 minutes later. No-one need know.

[having just done exactly that - bloody minipill messing with my cycle and panicking me! bfn fortunately enough!]

DewinDoeth · 01/11/2010 12:58

Yeah, but how do I dispose of the test afterwards? Cause I don't want a wee'ed on stick in my handbag! Ugh! My bin is an open one - but the bin in the toilet isn't though. Or should I put it in the sanitary bin??
Hmm.
Apparently it only tells you 1, 2 and 3+ weeks - but I guess if it's 3+ weeks, then it's likely to be quite a lot more in my case? [The maths of this is killing my brain!]

going · 01/11/2010 13:03

I would put it in the sanitary bin.

DewinDoeth · 01/11/2010 13:04

And congratulations going! Loved the photos - especially the one of the girls jumping for joy! (You and your DH look really young, well, maybe you are really young! Seriously, though!)

And I did wonder whether it was you with a 3 year gap - Rolf and Sybil do either of you have a 3yr gap?

systemsaddict · 01/11/2010 13:06

Put it back in the box to keep the wee off everything, possibly wrap in a plastic bag too?, then sneak back into the loo and into the sanibin. (Bear in mind you are looking at months of carrying urine samples around for midwives again - a few drops on a stick is nothing Grin!)

If it is 3+ weeks, then I think you would probably be able to argue for an early dating scan to get a better idea.
