Hey Veggie - just a quick as about to do supper. DD1 went down without a peep at 7.00 last night and had been on cracking form til then. Today I put her down at 1.00 and got her up at 2.00. I think she'd had about 45 mins. And am hoping she'll go to sleep quickly tonight too. Live in hope,.

Right, must go as all a bit behind today.

x

DeidreBarlow · 15/09/2010 19:32

So tonight for dinner I was in a rush and gave them chicken nuggets, potato waffles & beans and what do you know they cleared their sodding plates!! My children have been sent to test me....I thought last nights fish pie was rather yummy they clearly have no taste.

DD went to after school club today for the firsttime, i thought she would have been asleep in a corner by the time I picked her up but she was running all over the place. Someone told me they are exhausted in their first few weeks at school, I am still waiting for DD to get tired. She's like the Duracell bunnyGrin

beans hope DD1 goes to sleep okay again tonight.

veggie hows the ankle?

summer I really like that dress - how about some Mary jane style shoes they aren't usually too much of a heel, agree with effie red shoes would look good. I love bold shoes!

spotofcheerfulness · 15/09/2010 19:50

Deidre we have that self same meal about 3X a week so no need to feel ashamed. I tried giving stew and rice tonight, he had three spoonfuls then said "no". Then a massive portion of Beans's fab rhubarb crumble. I thought that was ok as it was homemade Grin. Have decided the food thing here is no longer pathological but toddler fussiness. My new strategy is to offer something for main, he can have pudding even if he doesn't have much, and if he's really not touched it then a cheese toastie or something else later. I know this sounds major soft touchy but is actually an improvement from my usual cooking an entirely different meal immediately if he rejects it Blush

BEans, glad the nap timing thing worked last night, I really should try it. I just get to the one hour point at lunchtime and think, "but I need to do XYZ" and let him sleep on. Hooray for DD2's super sleeping too!

Avo how did this afternoon go? I hope the ice cream did the trick and DD felt able to talk to yuo about it. Must be so hard, I am dreading the whole school thing.....

How did the mammoth DIY go today chez LadyT?

SL, I really like the dress, sadly can give no advice on shoes as I have no taste in shoes and no nice ones [get out the violins].

Effie hooray for Beebies! iplayer's good but you can't MN at the same time....

Veg how is your poorly ankle?

Off to yoga in a bit, I'm feeling v uninspired but am so lazy these days and go everywhere in a car (bloody Brighton and its hills) so need to make something of an effort.

Am so much more tired these days, ok so some of it is probably pregnancy related but I think it's also the constant negotiation with T over the slightest thing. Life of just a few months ago seems so straightforward in retrospect!

Oh, and hello Trace! How are you doing?

JamInMyWellies · 15/09/2010 20:02

SL defo red shoes pref patent. Check out M&S I managed to find a very lovely pair of purple velvet platform ones for last weekend. Was completely Shock and they were half the price I was going to pay for in Bertie.

Veg hows the ankle I do think you ought to hop along Grin to your GP.

Beans fingers crossed for another good night. YOu dont want to know whats going on here suffice to say my bare arse was hanging out the side of a toddler bed for most of last night.

Avo how is DD1 this arvo I hope you had a lovely time. FOr what its worth chicken pox normally incubates for about 2 wks.

Am meant to be finishing off the packing but am trying to catch up with you lot while Dh has gone for a fish supper.

Nolda how was oyur anniversary?

JJ how is your DD have they eased a bit?

LadyT & Rubes hope oyu have had another fab day.

Right must dash am sure I will lurk a wee bit on hols.

We're all going on Summer holiday tra lalalalala lalala.....

Veggiemummy · 15/09/2010 20:07

Aaaahhhh I'm so bored of this ankle. It's so frustrating being stuck here on the couch. I swear I spend half my day trying to get stuff done so I can have a little sit down with my coffee, but now I have an opportunity to actually sit down all day it's so boring and annoying. It still hurts quite a bit but I'm trying to move around & weight bare a little as I think a bit of blood flow with help the swelling.

Spot you make me laugh, I'm with you on thr crap footwear, I wear crocs heels for goodness sake. Hope the yoga is good. I haven't managed to get to yoga since I finished the Ashtanga course, it just never seems to happen.

SL I really like that dress and nice price. Why would it not go with brown boots. I have some lovely knee-high brown boots I think it would look lovely with. Though as already mentioned I'm a high heeled croc wearer.

SummerLightning · 15/09/2010 21:00

Hmmm...I think brown boots might be ok but possibly a bit to casual for a wedding.
Ok here is some ideas flat ones
these - not sure they would be v comfy or I'd ever wear them otherwise
these but I think they'd fall off the back of my heels as shoes like this always do that to me.
these but I really wouldn't wear these other times would I?
Or these which fit the bill and are cheap but not sure i really like them that much.

Hmmm..I am also super crap with footwear, so I have no idea, but I was also thinking along the lines of red shoes, and quite like the idea of something super striking!! What do you all think. I am so crap with footwear I haven't unpacked all my shoes since the move and have only got about 3 pairs out!

What do you think?

Veggiemummy · 15/09/2010 21:02

Forgot to tell you all the funniest thing that happened today, DS1 & DS2 were doing handstands. DS2's handstand basically entails him doing downward dog with his butt very high & on tip toes. This afternoon he was try to push his butt higher and went so high up on his tippy toes that he he rolled forward & did a perfect forward roll. He got such a shock but obviously enjoyed it, and such a reaction from DS1 & I that he tried doing it again but ended up just rolling around the floor.

SummerLightning · 15/09/2010 21:10

Aww veggie that is super cute.

We had a good evening this evening. DH cooked Thai curry with DS and he really love smelling the spices, and ate practically half a lime (yuk, weird boy) and then he ate a load of curry when it was cooked (well it was mostly rice with a bit of sauce and he wouldn't touch the veggies) Very successful! And yes I am sure DH shouldn't be cooking and stuff but he wanted to!

Veggiemummy · 15/09/2010 21:29

My vote goes to contestant number 2 Lightening. I know you think you wouldn't wear them again but I think you might. The super high ones look like you might do yourself an injury.

Hooray on the curry eating always nice to hear a success.

Rubena · 15/09/2010 21:43

Hello! Will go back and read to catch up in a bit properly but just read Lady's post from last night - very kind Lady it was a pleasure. dh loves it - truly. You and dp have done so much since we first saw the house - it's amazing actually and especially the floor and the kitchen - what a great job your dp has done. I did bugger all, but glad dh was able to make up for it! These kids keep us busy don't they! dd had a total nappy explosion when we got home - so glad she waited!!

Thanks so much for lunch and the cheerfulness too! Grin and it has been so good to see you both for the last couple of days. Avo we missed you but I'm glad you stayed with dd and hope she is ok and feeling a bit happier.
OK must sort dd - will catch up later with the rest

urbanewarrior · 15/09/2010 23:24

Am so sorry I've been so rubbish at keeping up recently. Have just finished work, and been working like this for what feels like weeks now. Is thoroughly miserable and won't bore you all with moaning about it. But I miss being on here and keeping up however vaguely (poor me).

But main point is to send you all lots of love, say how nice it was to see you at the meet up (eek - it's been that long) and have not disappeared off the face of the earth. Or at least not until I get put on a pile with all the other pointless bureaucrats .

Oh and summer I like the cha cha shoes. But not at all practical. Dress is beautiful

Veggie I hope your ankle feels better soon. I cannot imagine you are a born patient...

LadyT am pleased to hear you sounding more chipper - sorry I wasn't around to offer any support - and hurrah indeed for the family Rubes

Avo I really hope your DD talked to you some more and that she's feeling a bit better. I suppose one thing to be pleased about is that she's explained what she's feeling as opposed to just being badly behaved - you've clearly done a good job in bringing her up to talk about things.

Right must go to sleep as have massive meeting with various lords and masters tomorrow first thing. Night all.

EffiePerine · 16/09/2010 06:48

Summer: something like this?

www.frenchsole.com/product_info.php?shoe_id=dGj9PaLmwG2pmWQK

DeidreBarlow · 16/09/2010 07:01

summer I'd go with the Red or Dead heels. i think I've said before I always go for heels...besides I don't think they are too high. The second ones are very nice too I think they look very comfy too

Aww veggie that is really sweet. Sending some healing vibes to your ankle.

urbane hello again, lovely to hear from you.

avo how is DD1 feeling? I hope you had a lovely afternoon together.

OP posts:
Rubena · 16/09/2010 08:37

dd slept 11-620!!!!! Grin I'm sure it was a one off though.....

Summer - just looked briefly as I like people posting links! Out of those I'd go the cha cha's - but I'm not a flat's wearer...

Beans33 · 16/09/2010 08:41

DD1 was rubbish again! Clearly 45 mins of sleep at lunchtime is too much for her. She stayed up til 8.45 again. So, back to 20 mins today.

Am actually off to see my sister this morning - she's in West London and is possibly going to get a divorce. Who knows. I am 7 years younger than her, so she doesn't really talk to me about it. I am wondering whether to mention it today as my family have been keeping me abreast of it all. It's a bit depressing really, so not sure whether to or not. Ho hum.

SL - I'd go for the 2nd pair as well. They look really comfy.

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2010 08:59

Oh gosh Beans that is hard. My first thought was to tell her you know, but then maybe as this is such a major thing in her life and she might want to just for a little while feel a bit normal & have a conversation with someone about everything other than her divorce. I'm sure she has lots of support from other people maybe it might just be nice to be able to gas bag for an hour or 2. She may even crack and tell you anyway. What is your gut feeling.

I've looked again at the shoes and I think I still like the 2nd, maybe it's because I'm a non heels wearer (too many physio friends) and I love the shape of them. I have to say whenever I wear heels to a wedding I end up dancing barefooted later in the evening. I just can't dance properly in heels, I can only step & sway.

Rubena · 16/09/2010 09:19

hmmm dunno Beans - that's a toughie. Different in my family. Everyone talks about everything so we'd all already know. I'd be inclined to ask some questions that might result in her talking about it.

Veg - yeah depends on your foot shape. Some people just can't wear heels or destined for probs

Avocadoes · 16/09/2010 10:21

Quick report back from the ice cream counselling session. We had a nice chat but DD1 basically refused to talk much about school. All she said is that she gets a little bit sad because she never gets to see me, her nanny and DD2 anymore. She is also sad because they give her a "yucky yellow yoghurt called custard". I took Veggie's advice and told her it was OK to miss people and feel sad and she said that was good because she would miss me when I died!!! Anyway, I think she felt better after some one-on-one time with me.

Summer - I love your dress. I bought a Fenn Wright and Manson wrap dress in the spring and found it so flattering and comfy that I bought two more over the summer! I can't wear heals but I usually make myself for weddings and then regret it all night. Therefore I would go for number 2 too.

Urbane - Lovely to hear from you. Sorry that work is running you ragged again.

Rubes - Sorry to miss you yesterday but good on you for being such a great help to LadyT. And good on your DD for the mammoth sleep!

Beans - I think I would tell your sister you know. She probably knows that you will have heard something so it would be odd to ignore the elephant in the room.

Jam - I think you are flying to Florida today. Have a fabby time!

Still no sign of the pox here. Please keep your fingers crossed that it incubates until our return from Italia (or that the girls aren't infected at all).

Nolda · 16/09/2010 10:44

Avo Glad you and DD1 had a nice time at the icecream parlour. I'm sure that she appreciated some special time with her mummy. It's a shame she wouldn't talk much about school, it can be so frustrating can't it? Best of luck with the pox, I hope it holds off completely or at least until you get back from Italy.

Jam Have a super holiday.

Summer Fab dress. I agree with Veggie re shoes.

Veggie Hope your ankle gets better soon.

Not much to report here. There is a 'meet the teacher' session at DD's school tomorrow so I'll finally find out what they've been up to and hopefully get some tips on helping DD learning to read.

traceface · 16/09/2010 10:53

morning!
I'm finishing late today so I'm going in late to keep my hours late, so I get to play on the laptop do some housework with no-one around to pester me Grin
DB when Lu started school I was expecting mega exhaustion and she seemed to be a duracell bunny too, but I think her tiredness manifested itself in bad behaviour and grumpiness, rather than falling-asleep-at-the-dinner-table tiredness. Lu was moaning this morning while I was getting ready, saying *I just want to go to school right now so I can do my literacy and practise my handwriting"!! We've been having issues with her reading though. She brings home a book each night and last year would happily sit and read with us, but since starting yr 2 she has been crying and getting cross and not wanting to read at all. It's been taking half an hour to get through a few pages because she's being so annoying, and then I'm getting really cross with her. Anyway I spoke to her teacher on Friday about it, and ended up in tears {nothing new there!), but she was very reassuring and just said to completely take the pressure off. If Lu wants to do 1 page, then let her. And if she just wants to chat about the pictures, then that's fine, and then we'll see how she gets on as time goes on. Last night she agreed to do 10 minutes, but at 10 minutes she was so into the story that she didn't want to stop! They are a funny species aren't they!
I spoke to my manager about doing my appointments in work's time, and she was very negative and said she didn't think so, but that she would check with her manager (who was my matron on the ward and who clearly knows me very well because of the time I had off sick after L was born). ANyway, she checked with her and she said it's fine! I can have 6 appointments initially then we'll reveiw it after that, which is great Smile so I'm glad I asked. I've got to be referred to Occ Health tho, but I don't mind that - they've already got a thick enough file on me!
Poor P is so full of a cold - it only started yesterday but is already full on, thick green snot stuck all over her face, sneezing all the time Sad Poor thing. I dosed her up before she went off to nursery today. Seems happy enough though Smile
Does anyone else's LO (dec 08!) still use a dummy? P has one for sleeping still, which we make her leave in her cot, so she knows it's just for sleeping, but I feel like I ought to be getting her off it. TBH she sleeps so well I'm loathe to upset the apple cart, but I have this underlying feeling of shame! In fact she has about 5 in the cot, so there's no chance of her waking up and needing me to come and put it back in. She also has a beaker of water in the cot, and several times a night I hear her wake up, have a drink, then go back to sleep. Do you think that's ok or something I ought to try to stop? Lady am I right that O still uses a dummy at night?
avo really hope the pox don't spoil things for you. You never know whether they'll ctach it or not. L avoided it for 5 years, despite her nursery class and school class all having it, but then P got it and L got it from her! It's usually a two week gap from contact to spots coming out. Fingers crossed for you.
Summer, beans rubs you all sound like you're doing amazingly well with your newies. Well done Supermums!
Urbane I'm so sorry your work is still so draining and time consuming Sad It must be horrid for you. Don't feel bad about MN - it's fab when you pop on but don't let any more pressures weigh you down. Any chance of it lightening up at all in the foreseeable future?
veggie I think with an ankle like that you ought to be eating some G&B butterscotch to reduce the swelling Smile
Should we be worrying about JB and katie and WG?
I just noticed the time and really ought to go.
bye for now x

SummerLightning · 16/09/2010 11:22

Hi thanks for shoe tips.
I am going to order the second pair and also a pair of turquoise flat ones here that I liked when I saw them in the shop the other day for general day use. If i like them both then I can take the flat ones with me for dancing in later! And I have some blue patent shoes somewhere that I will wear as a back up if neither fit. Will have to find the buggers though!
I decided the Red or Dead ones are too high for me. Hopefully the second pair will fit, I have size 36 feet which are very wide and I have trouble getting shoes to fit.

trace DS doesn't use a dummy but he never has. I would imagine it is reasonably common still for sleeping, one of my friends DC still has one for the day time! Oh and the water in the cot sounds fine to me? I drink water in the night and I am 33 years old Grin
Hi to urbane nice to hear from you!
Effie I am not spending 110 quid on some ballet pumps!! Hehe stingy alert. Though I agree they are nicer than any of the flat ones I linked to. Very nice in fact.

avo sounds like chat with DD went well re school. REally hope she settles in soon. I am with her on custard being yucky (bleurgh).

rubes v Envy re the sleeping! DD still only going 4 hrs max, usually 2-3. She's getting better at settling though, less 2 hr screamy seshes so things are on the up I hope.
right must go - shoes to be bought!

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2010 11:30

Trace I'm sorry your manager was negative initially but great it's all sorted now what a weight off your mind. And what a fantastic teacher your DD1 has, I have had some friends getting quite stressed at the pressure they feel their kids are under to fulfil the sent home reading stuff. It's lovely to hear of such a sensible teacher. Kids will read eventually putting pressure on them doesn't help anyone.

Urbane sorry your work is so horrid at themomemt. Of course only come on when you can...but I missed you.

Trace Kiwi just got back from NY, WG is keeping out of her house so her DH can work and I thought JB was here the other day.

Trace if you think chocolate will help...

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2010 11:33

Oh and Pubes I have bizarrely narrow feet would that be why it is uncomfortable under the ball of foot when I wear heels? Can I just not support them.

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2010 11:44

Avo sorry about the 'it's ok to miss mummy' thing actually making her think about you dying!!!

JumpJockey · 16/09/2010 12:52

very quickly from work, SL you must must get shoe #2, they are fabby and red shoes rock!

dd's spots getting a lot better now thanks to anti-bs, she's got a few scabs :( but hopefully all will be better soon and she'll stop looking so leprous.

love to all! [dash dash]
