Zoe - hello! We are in London so pay astronomical babysitter rates. But sitters.co.uk (a nationwide agency) ask you to pay their sitters £5.85 an hour. Maybe that's a good guide. I find sitters cheaper than our 14 yr old neighbour and sitters are qualified childcare workers.

Kiwi - you are not getting aneamic are you? Cld you get DH to but you some iron tonic?

My C name guess isn't the same as Spots's. It's 3 syllables. The P name is 4.

I meant to say welcome back to MoM the other day. Glad you've passed the first trimester Mrs. Sorry yr DS's sleeping is so poor at the mo.

And hi to NJAN. We haven't heard from Katie for ages. Hope her third pregnancy is going well.

Oh, and I also meant to tell you all that my work agreed to a reduction in hours from Jan. I will be working 30 hours compressed into 3 days. So I'll have to full days at home. I can't wait. I am in Belfast at the mo on a work thing and I miss my girls soooo much.

Beans33 · 29/09/2010 09:31

I second Avo on the Sitters. We've used them loads and they're v good. Only hidden cost is £12.99 per quarter once you've joined. But you don't have to pay their travel to and from you and you have to do a minimum of 4 hours. And you don't provide their food either. It's v good.

Am thinking of Lady - fingers crossed all ok.

Kiwi - glad you're ok. I hope your colour improves soon - is there anything I can bring you? x

Rubena · 29/09/2010 10:03

Bloody heck that's cheap! I've just had a look at their website and I think I'll give them a go next time we are stuck and mil can't be here. Is it hard to leave them with a stranger in your house or do you get the same one each time if possible?

poisondwarf · 29/09/2010 10:41

Ooh this is all very exciting isn't it? Avo, if your C name is the one I'm thinking it might be, is it a Shakespearean name? If so, that's what I guessed LadyT's DD1 might be called. And I can only think of one P name with 4 syllables - would defo go with DD1's name! Hmm, just had a thought - what if the scans were all wrong and it was a boy!

jj fingers crossed for you this morning.

zj DD isn't sleeping with a pillow yet (I think DS had one from about 2.2 when he moved into a bed). They are fine from 12 months I think, but should be quite flat.

Rubes my DCs have never been to nursery, although DS has been at preschool - which is mornings or afternoons - since 2.5 (he started off with 2 sessions & now has 4). They've both always gone to lots of toddler groups, story time at the library, that sort of thing (at least one a day Monday-Thursday), which I think are great for just being round other kids, a change of scene, different kinds of stimulation etc. but not necessarily language so much. Now television, that's a different story. Honestly I think if you're selective then TV can be fantastic for their language at this age. Something Special is great, and my personal favourite is Peppa Pig. I think they've put a hell of a lot of thought into the language - it's simple yet everyday and natural, and there is a wide range of vocabulary and easy-to-understand scenarios, which they wouldn't necessarily come across for a long time just from our everyday routines. DS and DD have definitely picked up loads from watching these 2 programmes in particular. With PP I record them then edit out the ads. I know not everyone is into a lot of TV for their DCs but we have to get on and do other stuff sometimes. My DCs watch loads and it certainly hasn't held their language back at all - far from it.

trace how are things at work now? For what it's worth I would have done exactly the same as you did - I don't see what else you could have done without putting yourself in an even more awkward position. The farmhouse looks great. You should buy it for the name alone, then it could make sweet music with my new house (check out the street name). I was going to say my semi does not qualify as property porn by anyone's standards but actually...

Woo-Hoo. Congratulations LadyT! That was very quick. Only four hours later than your night waking. Can't wait to see pics. I love the names and Persephone was my 'P' guess so I nearly got it. Cressida was my C guess. Is that what you guessed PD?

Rubena · 29/09/2010 10:56

Bugger - I guessed Augusta Grin

poisondwarf · 29/09/2010 10:58

Yes it was Cressida Avo. But I was thinking of Philomena for the P name so no points for me.

Indith · 29/09/2010 11:00

traceface · 29/09/2010 13:20

WOW Congratulations to the Lady Family Grin So pleased all is well.
My SIL had her baby this morning too - a girl but I don't know any other details - so I'm an aunty now Grin Hurray hurray for happy news!

waitinggirl · 29/09/2010 13:31

yay! woo-hoo Lady and Lord T!

LadyThompson · 29/09/2010 13:46

You are all so kind and the messages are so cheering - thanks a million! I am struggling a bit. I feel fucking sore if you'll excuse my language! I guess me and epidurals don't get on - 1 in 10 people are like this apparently. But little Dahlia is lovely and really quite dark. They are my favourite flowers...and I think it has a 1930s glamour to it. She has stork marks over her face like O did - the same Hitler 'tache! Unfortunately O is ill at the babysitters and was sick seven times in the night Shock but is in good spirits as she was laughing and enjoying blowing bubbles with the sick. Nice.

My sister guessed Persephone as well as Avo - though it was DP's choice and not mine. I like it though. Hope is his friend's Mum's name - she suggested it to him herself as she loves it. Or maybe they had a secret affair.

I don't really think that Grin

Tell you what, girls, I am not doing this again! Thrilled as I am with my beautiful new daughter. I really like some of the names you've been guessing. I am not just a ponce but a predictable one, ho ho.

Oh dear, it does hurt rather. Interestingly my obs says she doubts I would ever have managed a natural delivery with either of my lovely girls - they are too high and unwilling to engage!

And pooh, so much for a bigger baby!

Right, must go. Feel grotty. Still in recovery.

KiwiPanda · 29/09/2010 13:59

Oh what lovely lovely news, huge congratulations LadyT and hope you feel less grotty very very soon!
