Welcome to our new, cosy thread. Log fires, big jumpers and Christmas shopping Grin.

What do you mean it's still August?! Wink

Hardandsleazy · 07/09/2010 21:42

Neenz cb right up there for being punchable

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 07/09/2010 21:44

Lol Neenz, I'm suprised they still use us tbh as normally they are quite strict about using different stories.

The sad thing is that most people still won't talk about their IF so they have very few couples to call on. In fact I was on a thread on here last week with a woman who didn't even want to tell her own sons they were IVF-conceived as she was embarrassed about it Sad.

CB and AC were both so inane - dreadful programme, but not surprise there! I always watch BBC News Grin.

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 07/09/2010 21:46

Aw, thank you hardandsleazy Smile.

Love the new name!

neenz · 07/09/2010 21:56

yes, also pmsl at AC saying his thoughts were with you - what a dick, he always says the wrong thing! You are happy, his thoughts should be with couples still struggling with infertility, not a couple who have two great kids. Shock at the woman not wanting her kids to know they were ivf. Whyever not? It's better than saying you were the result of a burst condom (me) ie your parents never really wanted to have you in the first place Grin

DewinDoeth · 07/09/2010 22:16

LMAO neenz. With you, not at you. Grin Sorry, but burst condom!! (Seriously, I'm still laughing as I type!) Trust you to bring it all back to earth!
I watched it too - twice, because I was watching it on facebook then it opened a new window and I weirdly had Knitting and her DH talking at the same time from two windows not in synch!! I thought it was good if too brief, and thought CB was dreadful - 'doesn't get easier', eh, you what?! I also agree people should be open about it. I'm open about having a m/c but one friend kept hers secret from everyone, bar a tiny group including her mum and me (and only told me because I was off work with the same thing). I tell people openly because it sort of helped me to know others had been through it and stuff. But it shouldn't be a taboo, and neither should IVF. My sister knows a couple who have twins, and we suspect IVF but they have never said, and my sister can't understand why. Another friend was completely open about TTC (and had IUI in the end) because she thought why keep it secret, and if she has a m/c (like many friends of hers had) then people would be supportive and not amazed at her being pg in the first place, rather than 'surprise' everyone by explaining she was having a m/c and 'oh, yes, btw, I was pg'. That might not make sense, sorry.
Knitting I maintain that you should write a book. Maybe a mumsnet guide or something - something light hearted (i.e. not NHS official publication style!) but saying this is what happens, this is what you might get told, here are some things people do. Stuff you've said on here.

Deb lots and lots of love on the shoe problem. Can you look at other options - can you get some boots here in the UK maybe? I volunteer to get them and post them if it helps. Poor Ethan. My brother has a foot which turns in - it's a quirk in the men in dad's side of the family. Nobody ever did anything about it but then that was the late 70s/early 80s when people didn't care. Wink It's not held him back - he does triathalons without any problems, and he has no related health issues or anything like that.

Hardandsleazy love the new name. Do we address you as Hard or as Sleazy? Grin Any preference? Grin

God, I'm tired. Off to bed now. I'm better from my gastroenteritis, and as a side effect managed to lose a stone. Totally ashamed that I'm pleased with my skinnyness: it's so wrong. Blush (Sadly, though, I'm tired, and look it, so that's the downside.)

Still nowhere with the fridge freezer btw. Will report back. Smile

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/09/2010 22:28

All is calm again. Gave S some warm milk - he turned his nose up and said 'hot mummy, milk cold please mummy' [bless]. Within a few minutes he was fast asleep in DH's arms.

. We just got ourselves in a tizz about worse case scenarios and what could have happened if he'd wedged his head so we're definitely going to order a gate. But DH is away for a few nights now this week and then we're away over the weekend so think we'll try again next week. I don't have the strength or the patience to do it on my own! Thanks for looking in your sleep book for me Spider.

Knitting - thought you were great on tv! Though did also find it odd that AC said their thoughts were with you Confused Surely something about it being a really happy ending or something might have been better. I usually watch cbeebies BBC News in the morning too Grin

Love the new name sleazy !

DebInAustria · 07/09/2010 22:50

Lovely to see you all on the Tv Knitting, you came over really well.

Thanks for all the support about the shoes situation, esp Dewin, thanks for the offer of help and it was encouraging to hear about your brother. I think I'll video him walking as then I'll be able to see over time if it improves at all won't I?

DebInAustria · 07/09/2010 22:51

Goddess, never think about worse case scenarios!! He's fine now, that's all that matters.((hugs))

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 07/09/2010 23:08

just waving to mark my place, back from library (again). HAS (that's you poppy!) cake was v squidgy today. yum.

SpiderWilliam · 07/09/2010 23:15

I reckon that AC and CB didn't watch Knitting's VT as they were clearly fixating on Kylie's no show/late arrival. I watched it for a bit after that and the funniest thing was a kid who was on to talk about his prosthetic arm. They were incredibly posh and when mum was asked how the arm had made his life easier she said: "When we go out to restaurants he can cut his steak up for himself". Rah rah...

abdnhiker · 08/09/2010 08:30

DGT sorry to hear about bedtime :( I hope he settles in. There's not much else you can do though is there? He needs to learn to get himself to sleep. I'd be feeling exactly like you!

yeah knitting on your TV appearance!

I'm all for telling people pretty much most things - when we thought we were having a MC with DS1 I felt so alone because you can't really call people up for support when you haven't even told them you're pregnant.

deb hugs about E's sandals. How hard, and definitely not weather-friendly. How long a day should he wear them? will wearing them inside be enough?

umm, hints on who hard and sleezy is?

PenguinNZ · 08/09/2010 10:09

Just marking place.

Flood waters receded thank goodness - thank you for your wishes.

Worked today - I hate my new job. And one of my colleagues. I also seem to have lost all sense of tolerance....

Shattered. I seriously could have gone to bed with R (7pm), but have managed to stay up for an extra two hours, woo-hoo.

Night y'all!

PenguinNZ · 08/09/2010 10:11

BTW not grumpy and down as my post suggested. Just shattered and feeling a bit matter of a fact. Sorry for me, me, me. Catch up properly soon.

Rolf · 08/09/2010 11:37

We've got Ovenclean around, cleaning our disgraceful oven. T is supervising them, so I'm finding things to do in the vicinity. One such thing was setting fire to a load of papers (the shredder packed in!), which I have made a spectacular cock-up of doing, creating a shouldering smoking heap of papers in the chimenea outside, with smoke streaming into the neighbours' gardens Blush. I feel like a stereotypical woman driver Blush. These burly blokes are doing a brilliant job of cleaning the oven and all I can do is smoke everyone out.

I looked at a nursery for T today, and she loved it. I loved it too, but still feel quite weepy at the thought of it. I'll take her in for a few hours on her own later in the week and see how we both get on.

Penguin I had to laugh at the hating your job and colleague!

DGT glad it all ended quickly Smile

SpiderWilliam · 08/09/2010 18:46

Glad the nursery was nice Rolf. I would be feeling more teary too if it was my last baby, as it is, this is a 10 week reprieve before starting over. P had another good morning at nursery today. Apparently he loved the music. I am getting the impression from the staff that not many new starters are quite so confident at being left Confused.

DGT I had a look through the sleep book, it goes from birth to 6 years so it might be worth having a look at. I could post it to you if you like, just send me a message on FB. My initials are AB. I would like it back though, I am sure I will want to dip into it in the future...

I am currently sitting on a bag of frozen peas. I got stung or bitten by something 10 days ago a wedding. Once on my inner thigh and then on my other buttock! I had a maxi dress on and I think the beasty was trapped. It had been getting better, but I slept badly last night and I think I must have been scratching the bites. Today it is all swollen up and constantly itchy. I have failed to get hold of a GP or a MW who can tell me what I can and can't take for it. DH is out this evening and not returning calls and I am feeling sorry for myself Sad.

DebInAustria · 08/09/2010 20:26

Spider, don't know what you can take, but you could put calamine lotion on it and go to bed wearing scratch mitts and big knickers!

Had a great day today Grin, saw an advert in th elocal paper for a new childrens designer clothes shop which also sells 2nd hand stuff and baby things. I don't do designer but took a car load of stuff to see if they would have it, bought loads back that they didn't want BUT came away with 100 euros . I was so shocked, these mad women have set up this swish shop and paid me all that money for the 1st stage car seat, a few big baby toys which I got 2nd hand and a few clothes. Then they sell them on for 50% more, I wonder how long before they go bankrupt. They dopwnright refused clothes from certain cheaper shops and then pored over a grobag which I'd bought from the cheapest place there is. They bought it ShockNormally in these places you only get the money once they have sold your items and taken their cut!!Funnies thing was a pair of jeans, they checked the label, I said they were English, they paid me 2 euros for tesco baby jeans, obviously thought Cherokee was a designer in the UK!!!!

Needless to say I am searching the house now for other "designer" goodies to tempt them with before their grand opening on saturday!!!!

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 08/09/2010 21:37

Spider I'd check with a pharmacist, more likely to give you up to date advice on what you can and can't take. Although they do tend to be on the cautious side. I have taken piriton for hayfeer while pregnant, which my GP was happy to prescribe last time, this time I saw a different GP who wouldn't. Basically the problem with most antihistamines is that they haven't been thoroughly tested in pregnancy and are unlikely ever to be as it's too expensive and risky to do so. I'd second the calamine lotion for a first off though!

PenguinNZ · 09/09/2010 08:11

Rolf - Glad T liked the nursery. LOL at the fire.

Spider - Re: bites I have a wierd baby bum type balm over here that I am using on bites (wondering if the council has fleas cos I'm covered in them and R&DH are fine). It's just nappy rash sort of stuff but I wonder if it means that nappy rash cream has something in it that stops swelling an itching...? And you'd be able to use that. Although it's not miraculous, it does help. see here for more info, maybe a local chemist will stock it? Noticed onb FB you'd commented on a friends new baby photos, that wasn't the premmie baby was it?

LOL at your haul Deb. Sell all your stuff quick before they go out of business!

SpiderWilliam · 09/09/2010 08:28

No the new baby photos were of a colleague I worked with 5 years ago when she had her first and then second babies. They have since moved away and I didn't even know she expecting a third! The prem baby is still doing really well as far as I can tell from mutual friends. Apparently it was a spontaneous labour: she was out with a friend and her waters went Shock

Thanks for your suggestions on the bites. I slept badly again but at one am I got some peas which calmed it down enough to get to sleep. I am going to go and see the GP or a pharmacist this morning. My GP is very quick to get the prescription pad out so I am a bit concerned about seeing him, however the swelling is massive so I think I ought to get it looked at.

Deb - glad you managed to sell that stuff. Are you going to blow the 100 E on something nice, or are you going to be responsible?

Amberc · 09/09/2010 08:48

Spider - MArk gets those enormous swollen bite sites - he just gets a bad reaction but some people say that it's when you knock the creature off before it's finished, something to do with the anticoagulant it sticks in you. I think Calamine is the only thing you can really use - stick it in the fridge. It should just go down on its own eventually.

Going back to bed now. I got Luke up this morning and it's nearly killed me but things had to go back to normal. Maark has taken him in but I have to get in the car and pick him up later. Still feel grim but less grim than the last few days.

PiggyPenguin · 09/09/2010 09:18

Marking place. Broadband should arrive in next few days, fingers crossed!

SpiderWilliam · 09/09/2010 12:34

The GP told me that I couldn't have anything for it, and the pharmacist said that Piriton was the only thing that is fine at this point in pregnancy, but that it is only on prescription if pg not over the counter. Since getting up this morning it's felt much better and hasn't been driving me insane like yesterday, so I will see how it goes. Thanks for your advice and suggestions folks.

DewinDoeth · 09/09/2010 14:33

Wasn't going to post (bit busy at work) but I have two suggestions for Spider (am a pro at insect bites - react to all insects in varying degrees: bees and wasps = death!).
Do Nelsons do a homeopathic cream?
I also use a little device called Zanza click or something similar - it's magic, and does stop the itching. Zanza click

SpiderWilliam · 09/09/2010 15:44

Thanks Dewin. Like you I do tend to react to bites, mosquitos on holiday typically bring me out in a great big red bumps. Having googled around the subject it seems that when pregnant some people's amune systems goes a bit beserk. Mostly though it was my own fault for scratching the other night when I was half asleep.

DewinDoeth · 09/09/2010 20:12

Well, when they're itchy...do you know what bit you? Midge, mosquito, horsefly? Not that it makes much difference!
I got my copy of Red magazine today (I get it by subscription) and Knitting is in it! Such a gorgeous photo. (Knitting, great hair btw.)

Amber hope you continue to improve.

Deb I thought for a minute you were going to video my brother! My brother does have a foot that turns in still, but it's nothing really, just an aesthetic thing. You can sometimes see it in photos. But then, my nose is crooked and that shows in photos too. Smile

It's been quiet on here - not doing well on responding to people!

Um, maybe I'll explain about my fridge freezer now! Grin My handyman is coming tomorrow to shave my wall down so that it fits. DH has been sympathetic (he's all guilty anyway because I gave him a guilt trip he organised this week's sitting without telling anyone, and then announced it was the same week as my parents' holiday thus leaving me totally alone - I'm having to take a day off work tomorrow because nursery can't take Iestyn on Fridays.) and says this might be useful for any future fridge we might buy. Anyhow, he's now stopped being annoyed at me for rushing into the fridge purchase and getting a duff one. His plan is we live with it for a good few months and see how we go, then research very carefully and if necessary get a new one and sell this - won't get full price but wouldn't now either.

Anyhow, who knows. If I have another baby then this house will be quite a squeeze. Shock I think I'm ovulating today - doh, DH not back till tomorrow. Folks who Know These Things, how does ovulation work? Blush I know, I know, it's basic biology and I haven't a clue. But if I've got this mucous thing going on today, does that mean I'm ovulating today? Or tomorrow, or how long does it last?
Sorry, so thick! Blush
