Anyone else just catch Knitting on the TV?

DebInAustria · 07/09/2010 07:49

Thanks everyone, I will take him to the GP back in the UK and see what they say there

Spider, hope P and you get on OK today

Biscuits, well done 68/100 , and I love Twirls, you've made me jealous

Goddess - hope you get your heating sorted soon and that cc takes a shorter time tonight

DebInAustria · 07/09/2010 07:49

oh I missed her Sad

Amberc · 07/09/2010 08:30

Eddie was it meant to be this morning on tv or have I missed it?

Amberc · 07/09/2010 08:31

Arse I missed it!

SpiderWilliam · 07/09/2010 13:19

Back from day 1 of pre-school. I dropped him and left quickly as he seemed happy. Just collected him and he had a good session with no tears - yay. I even managed to get to aqua-aerobics. We are both knackered now I think. I was very glad not to be the Mum who was sobbing this morning as she dropped her DD off for the first time. Her DD was fine of course.

DebInAustria · 07/09/2010 15:59

That's great Spider

Rolf · 07/09/2010 16:26

Glad it went well Spider. I'm going to look at a pre-school for T tomorrow.

Deb so sorry you're upset about E's shoes. One of T's feet turns inwards and I've had my head in the sand about it, but I think I need to see the HV about it. I hope you're happier with the care you get from the NHS.

Knitting I didn't see it either. Is it on YouTube?

poppy34 · 07/09/2010 18:16

Deb that is pants about the shoes- hope Nhs better.

Dewin sympathy with job as that colours everything else. Also given freezer thing still bugging you( although I would agree with ah on having more fridge and a chest freezer if required- but I am anti too much in freezer having lost two freezer loads over last year due to power cuts when we were away) I would eBay it and get something you do like.

Spider that is good re p and nursery- e starts next week and I suspect I will cry. Also still waiting for home visit from teacher- need to ring as leaving it a bit late.
Biscuits how is cake today and that sounds like a reasonable choc intake for studying.

Amber how are feeling? No sign of knitting when hinted on YouTube.

poppy34 · 07/09/2010 18:19

And dgt thought of you when finally got e to bed at 9.40 last night.

What daft posts would those be? The ones where people wonder in to rant about Gordon brown on the hustings thread? I did wonder if they had got lost trying to find the daily mail comments page.

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 07/09/2010 18:49

Sorry no time to read, ITNG about to finish! Smile

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/09/2010 19:13

Grin Poopy - I didn't actually read much of the thread, but yes those kind would generally annoy me! It was more during the election - lots of very abusive posts which bugged me.

Sorry to hear you had a late night with E too. Fingers crossed we both have a better night tonight!

Will have a look at daybreak later Knitting!

Ooh, I fixed my boiler. Am tres pleased with myself.

Amberc · 07/09/2010 19:31

Hi all poppy thanks for asking am no better and now hVe flu, chest infection and sinusitis. I would take double doses of flu and chest infection to get rid of the sinusitis as it's so painful it makes me cry and I would pay £1000 for one nurofen safe for pregnancy.

Spider great Bout pre school I would hVe cried!

Dewin I always wanted a giant freezer and would love z chest freezer to keep whole animALS in ;-).

Knitting saw the clip it's ace.

Deb that's awful about the shoes I think I would have cried. What a lot of money - how can anyone afford them and are the curative?

Rolf · 07/09/2010 20:50

Poor you Amber. I had a horrid chest infection and sinusitis when I was expecting DD1 and I still remember how awful I felt.

Knitting you and your DH look so lovely Smile. I hope you find this media stardom cathartic rather than stressful?

DGT good luck with tonight's sleep Smile

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/09/2010 21:03

Sadly, tonight is going any better Sad and I don't know what else to try Sad. This is night 3 and we've been going at it for an hour. Does CC just not work when they can get out of their bed? As soon as we leave the room he jumps right up, opens his bedroom door then stands at the top of the stairs at the gate screaming blue murder. Full on tantrum style. I have had people say we should get a gate for his bedroom door but would this really make much a difference compared to him standing at the top of the stairs? I'd need to put a pressure fit gate on his bedroom door and I hate those trip bars (especially as S is used to running in and out of his bedroom during the day (which isn't a problem). I can't even begin to imagine what the neighbours must think of the screaming (we're in a mid-terrace) - I think I'd call SS if I heard this level of screaming every night from next door! And they've got children either side of us so it can't be much fun for them either.

Sorry, very self-centred post - need to go upstairs and do the next 'back to bed' session. Sad

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/09/2010 21:22

OMG - DH went up to see to S just as I was posting earlier - I mustn't have closed the gate quite properly (it's a funny fit so needs a bit of jiggery pokery to get the bottom bit clicked in properly) and S had managed to get himself wedged underneath the gate (the top half was still clicked in place). His back was all red and it was a nightmare trying to get him out. Sad Sad Sad. Needless to say S is now up having a cuddle with daddy while I warm up some milk for him. Sad Feel like a terrible mother. Sad

Rolf · 07/09/2010 21:26

No you're not. Poor you. He's fighting it all the way isn't he? For a while I tried sitting outside DD1's door while she went to sleep. I read a book or did the ironing, and didn't engage with her. It worked for a while but then she decided to call my bluff and I cracked before she did. But I think it works for other less gobby chiildren.

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 07/09/2010 21:31

spider, great news about pre-school Smile.

amber, sorry you're feeling crap Sad.

Deb, so sorry to hear about E's shoes - that's rubbish Sad.

DG, can't offer any advice Blush as A still in a cot. However, those friends of mine who do have LOs in a bed and problems with bed time do advocate a stair gate on the bedroom door. Don't know whether this would make any difference though Sad.

Rolf, thank you Smile. No, it's not stressful at all - and it will be lovely to show the kids when they're older. Tbh, I feel very passionately about putting across the real heartache of infertility as so much crap is talked about it. We were so lucky to come out the other side with our two gorgeous boys Smile.

First day of work went really really well too - although it's not a job I could have done before we had kids. The tales of abuse I have heard just in a few hours today have broken my heart - how do these people become parents? Sad Sad Hugged my boys that little bit tighter tonight x

neenz · 07/09/2010 21:32

DG, sorry for bedtime traumas. I think a gate on door is good idea. What do you do when you go back to him during cc? I would be very firm, no niceties, a 'get back in bed and stay there' (putting him back in yourself if necessary) and of course don't give in. It may take longer as he is older so dont be disheartened that it is still over an hour even on day 3. It is awful tho I know but what else can you do? It is no good him being up all evening when you need some time out so don't think you are doing the wrong thing.

Deb, totally understandable that you would be upset about the shoes. Hope they do the trick.

DG, I voted for Ed Miliband. He was 57% for me on votematch. I was 72% Diane Abbott. I gave her my second preference even though I know that is meaningless as Ed is a much stronger contender. I like what Diane says but I don't think Labour would ever win a general election with policies like hers (and mine) - unfortunately!

The DTs are so sweet - T was rubbing E's back with suds in the bath, then he started tapping/hitting her on the back, and she said: 'Theo, you're so rough!' (that's what I say to him!). And the other day she was play-acting with her Igglepiggle, and said 'Igglepiggle, where's Baby Daniel' and then said (as if being IP) 'He's in the Moses basket'. Grin

Daniel is still doing well - he only fed once in the night but did spend the whole night in our bed so not sure if that counts Grin. He is 9lb 10oz - put on 20oz in 13 days. We have been getting smiles from him too today Smile.

Hardandsleazy · 07/09/2010 21:36

New name here (it's poppy) and poor s but have gate on door here- it does seem to
Help.

Will check out tv knitting and glad job ok although i admire you as not sure I could do that.

Sympathy Amber as horrid when can't take anything.
Neenz that is good going for Daniel. When is election result due?

SpiderWilliam · 07/09/2010 21:38

Poor you DGT. Your not a terrible mother, he is just a determined toddler. Call it a night for this evening, and re-assess in the morning.

Once they are in a bed and not in a cot it is a slightly different ball game. It does work but it takes longer and needs complete persistence and consistency from you. This is my opinion based upon TV parenting programmes only Blush but I have definitely seen shows where the parent has to return to escapee toddler to their bed tens of times in a night over several nights to break the cycle.

I will have a look through a sleep book I have and see if it has any suggestions for the over 2s. Will let you know.

Amber hope you feel better in the morning.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/09/2010 21:39

Thanks all. We have of course given up tonight because he must have really hurt himself (he had managed to get his whole body up to his armpits under the gate) and his back was really red and was probably like this for at least 10 minutes. Neenz - we're usually quite hardcore. Put him back to bed, close door, come back downstairs. I don't have any worries about CC in general, just really wondering if it's effective when they're older and can get out of bed.

Will seriously consider a gate on the bedroom door now though.

neenz · 07/09/2010 21:40

x-posted DG - no you're not a terrible mother. Hopefully it will help him see that he needs to do what you and DH say. Don't give in because of this, a few cuddles and a firm 'now stay in bed!' Good luck, don't feel bad, it could happen to anyone.

I Sky-plussed Knitting on Daybreak - you were great as always! I do wonder though whether any of the general public ever see/hear you on TV/radio and think 'I have heard this story before' as you have been on so many things! Grin. I think they should have explained more about how you managed a natural conception even with blocked tubes cos I am sure some viewers must have thought 'so were her tubes not blocked then?'. I was Hmm at Bleakley afterward, saying 'my friend is going through it, it doesn't get any easier' - no of course it bloody doesn't it just gets harder! Your story made me want to cry (again) though Knitting. So glad it worked out for you. Glad you are enjoying your new job too.

Hardandsleazy · 07/09/2010 21:41

Aw knitting have got all teary at that - and it's nor my eyes reacting to cb's fake tan.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/09/2010 21:41

Few x-posts - more thanks.

Amber, I'm sure a friend recommended something for sinusitis recently - will find out if it's safe in pg.
