Biscuits - I really really struggled with boys names. Adam was on our list. I also like Tom, but I recall that various people can't have Tom. Innes for something a bit Scottish? Doh! Penny dropped - you really couldn't have Tom!

I am feeling guilty here that I never manage to post in response to everyone else.

Dewin - sorry about the job and illness situation.

Rolf - sorry that steroid Bob is making life so unpleasant. I really do feel very sorry for you.

Knitting - hope today was better and that your car woes are quickly sorted out. Good luck for tomorrow.

On baby names, we have probably decided on a girl's name but I'm not telling Wink. it hasn't been mentioned on here though. Struggling with boys though. I started "a names that go with Peter" thread a few weeks ago, and it didn't really turn up anything that I hadn't already considered. DH still thinks it is too early to be discussing this though. I am 30 weeks today.

spider we've probably now decided on a girls name after a discussion on the way home from work today. need a middle name now. It needs to not start with a vowel - we're leaning towards a J name, be one or two syllables and not be Jane, for reasons that will become clear if we have a girl!

DGIT salt in the wound. Grin I would be so happy if I could have a Tom.

Has anyone else got a child who has only one speed at the moment? C runs everywhere - in the house, outside, anywhere! walking is so last year apparently. luckily she had not yet built up much speed!

I think you're all quite right not to say if you think you've decided on a name - though it's good fun offering suggestions.

{grin] biscuits - I think it's about the third time I've suggested Tom and then I remember! C and T go soooo well together .

Am very excited today because I went past elc on my lunch break today and they had the kitchen on display in the window. They even let me go into the window so I could have a good nosy around it. It looks fab, so have pretty much decided on that one. Am slightly concerned that S shows no interest when I show him pictures of any toy kitchens, but when he see pictures of trains, toy story stuff, thomas etc he shouts 'I like that'! Hmm Am sure he'll like it though [hopeful].

Pity free corner here btw the Dewin. My MBTI type (for those that understand such things) is completely absent of any F so I don't really do pity. Grin

Spider - too early at 30 weeks? I obsessed about it from about 12 weeks!!! But then, I do like to plan ahead. Mind you, I only discovered S's name when I was about 41 weeks and hadn't even heard of it before (well, it hadn't registered in my brain at all iyswim).

Aaarrrgghhhhh, give me strength! DH normally does bedtime and it takes about two frikking hours. Partly because S is a bugger at settling, but mostly because DH isn't very firm with him. DH is away, so at 9 o'clock I have a sink full of dishes, a very overdue assignment, and a toddler screaming his lungs out at the bedroom door.

...And breathe.

Apologies for self-indulgent rant!

Jean, Joan or Janet then for a middle name Biscuits?

What are these code initials? Confused

DG got excited because I was about to comment on real kitchen accessories... I'm getting a fridge freezer on Saturday. I'm now eyeing up the oven...I want to replace it for no reason other than it's not steel and so doesn't look as good...DH would never agree though...

dewin - google "Myers Briggs"

I am reeling here. Just had a text from a friend who was due about 10 days after me to say that she had her baby on Monday at about 28 weeks. Shock She has been having a terrible pregnancy and I knew they were considering an early c-section which is what I assumed has happened rather than spontaneous labour. Baby in intensive care Sad.

I am now going to try and go to sleep. Might be tricky.

abdn your friend's website looks beautiful.

Spider hmmm, not quite right yet though! I bet I end up having a boy, now I've spent so long sorting a girls name!

DGIT I know they go well together, that's why C is called C, it goes so well with our damn surname! I don't envy you your 2 hour bedtime routine.

I don't have a scooby what these code initials are either Dewin, I've a feeling they are HR type personality type assessment things?

We have a broken boiler. it was working fine when we went out this morning, but has decided to stop working completely at some point during the day. bastard thing.

Spider, I hope you're lurking - a colleague had her baby at 28 weeks last year and he's about to celebrate his 1st birthday. I really hope your friend's baby is as much of a fighter as this wee one.

S is still awake. DH will be in the shed tomorrow night.

At my mums so posting quickly while I have access to her broadband.

I do like the names thing but we do seem to bit more focused on girls names than boys! I think though girls names are easier for some reason. Boys names tend to come in either the very traditional and well-used version or the slightly 'out-there' version which I think makes it very difficult. Personally I like the slightly less well used of the first version, like Noah or Dominic or Devlin. Dh unfortunately would allow the most traditional of names hence both of mine appearing regularly in the top ten list. I will offer you Georgia for a girl though, dd is the only one in her school.

Rolf · 03/09/2010 11:51

My boys both have top 10 "engine" names, and if we'd had more boys they'd have been Peter or Henry. I like William, Edward and Edmund, too but DH wasn't so keen. I met a little Tobias the other day, which I think is lovely.

I'm a huge fan of myers briggs - almost evangelical about it. I think when done properly, with a qualified assessor, (as opposed to diy versions available on the internet) it's a fantastic tool for understanding how you are, why you react to things the way you do, how to deal with people etc. It's really insightful.

Agree that boys names are hard - I really really struggled to come up with any.

Spider, I'll be thinking positive thoughts for your friend's baby.

Had no comments on my toy kitchen accessories thread. Pah.

I knew a Georgia once Sybil - agree nice name, but not overused.

Hi twinkle - hope all is well with you!

Biscuits - on your boiler, it's not something like the pressure has dropped or the light has gone out? Our (combi) boiler once packed in and I just had to do something to re-set the pressure. I found instructions on t'internet which no doubt saved me a small fortune!

Amberc · 03/09/2010 14:36

Hi Twinkle! Hope all is well.

Domestic - when I worked at McKinsey & Co, everyone has to have a day workshop on Myers Briggs so you understand what you are and how to 'deal with' other people depending on their type. I thought it was a bit mad to be honest!

Aw, Rolf what a heart wrenching thing for your DS to say! But you know it's funny cos he probably isn't nearly as bothered as you. I remember I was not very popular at high school but sixth-form/uni was much better cos there were lots of clever people there Smile.

Daniel slept 12-5.30am last night, what a clever boy! And DTs have been with GPs all day (picking them up at 3) and it has been so lovely. Went to tesco with Daniel - it was so easy with just one baby. Have also bought a ticket to go watch City next week, taking D with me (lucky boy). I have chosen a seat right at the back and end of the stand so there is no one sat behind or on right of me. I am never bothered about BFing in public but thought it best to be tucked away in a corner. I asked to go in the family stand but you have to buy a kids ticket to go in there.

Dts are still being OK with D, but T is very rough with him (hitting him and leaning on him when I am holding him) and when I am feeding, E keeps saying 'baby down' and 'baby on the lion' (he has a lion play mat) Hmm. I have to tell T he cant touch D at all and then he is much gentler so he does understand, the monkey!

Spider your friend must have been due about the same date as me then, how frightening. Hope her baby is doing as well as possible.

Sybil I love the name Georgia, but DH has vetoed it. Sad I said almost exactly the same thing to my Mum the other week about boys names, that they are basically in very set categories, traditional, aspirational/trying a bit too hard, or naughty boy names! I also liked the girls names that you suggested, but can't have anoy of them for one reason or another!

The Boiler is fixed! (We had exhausted all possibilities of fixing it ourselves via the internet, and it turned out to need a new fan which we couldn't have done ourselves, so it had to be a plumber - was only £160 altogether, which is a lot less than we'd have spent over the time we've had it if we'd had one of those contract things, so not a bad result!
