Welcome to our new, cosy thread. Log fires, big jumpers and Christmas shopping Grin.

What do you mean it's still August?! Wink

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DewinDoeth · 01/09/2010 13:11

Aw, I only tend to suggest Welsh names. Smile I like Rolf's pairings except the last one - I don't think Elizabeth goes with Charlotte. I also don't know anyone who goes by Elizabeth - they're all Liz or Lizzie. (Personally I avoid names only used shortened - which is funny, as my MIL has two children who never ever use their full first names: Tim and Kate.)
How about Charlotte and Emma? Hannah?
Megan? (Heh, got a Welsh one in there! Grin)

Not much to report. My handyman is coming later to discuss fridge freezers with me. (Yes, it's that complex that I need a handyman...)
How does one choose a fridge freezer?

Rolf · 01/09/2010 15:21

I like Lottie and Betsy.

Smile
Amberc · 01/09/2010 16:08

I like Emily and have added it to my list!

Shouldn't we be thinking up names for Spider and Biscuit's kiddies first!! Any ideas yet ladies? And what about Penguin - you thought of anything?

poppy34 · 01/09/2010 18:15

Dewin that is shit re the job - I would want more answers as it would bug you otherwise.
Amber do you Want names you can shorten- like Charlotte to lotte? Also what names can't you have as Been used by family etc (the neenz scenario).

Neenz the twins sound so good do to
That in morning- the road thing must be doubly bad as you are sleep deprived.

Steroid bob sounds a nightmare- seriously intimidating kids? Think I would have said or done something (but am not as ballsy as amber).

Ah yay re nanny- do you need a sample
Contract?

poppy34 · 01/09/2010 18:18

Oh and charlotte and Emily my faces here.

And another dull day at work but worse than yesterday as at lunch opened drawer and saw the mouse!! Called building people toclean up and put down traps but tbh we are over run as it's been in a few other desks.

Dewin any decision on fridge?

Penguin how is r's head?

Amberc · 01/09/2010 18:27

Poppy no names I can't use And I am not big on shortening names to be honest. I can't believe you saw that mouse did you scream?!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 01/09/2010 18:46

poppy, huge yuck on the mouse! Sad

Dewin, so sorry to hear about the job, and Rolf, Angry on your behalf about the neighbour.

AH, yay on the nanny.

Can't help on girls' names as I only ever had one I wanted to use and it's been mentioned! FWIW, Hannah is becoming very very popular if that bothers you?

Had a lovely day yesterday with spider and P, but my day today which I had planned sans enfants was not so great! The bloody car broke down as I was on my way into town so didn't get in until 2pm Angry. It was the immobiliser I think, god knows how much it's going to cost to fix Blush. I had sooo much to get done today and have hardly done any of it, and only one more day until I start work Sad.

Ho hum!

PiggyPenguin · 01/09/2010 19:20

My belly button used to be really nice and now it is not. Ah, the joys of motherhood...

I think Charlotte and Emily are lovely names. I also like Abigail, Imogen and Jessica which I think all go well with Charlotte.

I think you sound very calm over the fact that you found mice in your desk drawer, Poppy. Personally I don't dislike mice but finding them eating my chocolate may have tipped me over the edge into some kind of psychotic rage. Then again, finding anyone eating my chocolate would possible have that effect.

PiggyPenguin · 01/09/2010 19:22

Oh and Rolf, I forgot to say. Bob really should not be allowed to threaten or bully your kids and I think you should consider getting a visit from the community police people to point this out to him. Like Spider's mother-in-law, if you don't do anything about it it won't get better.

Its a horrible thing to have a neighbour like him and I really feel for you.

poppy34 · 01/09/2010 20:27

Agree with Sybil that dojng something before he gets worse a good idea Rolf.

Amber I must admit I did say something rude. And mice apparently don't like raisins as they ate round the chocolate but left the raisins.

SpiderWilliam · 01/09/2010 21:16

My poor MIL is now on level terms with Steroid Bob! Grin Honestly, she isn't that bad.

Gotta go, as dinner is served

abdnhiker · 01/09/2010 21:54

poppy yes please to a sample contract! That would be great.

rolf I'm sorry he's being so horrible. :(

last day of freedom tomorrow for knitting...

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 01/09/2010 21:55

Sad @ AH

Time for another baby?

Grin
DewinDoeth · 01/09/2010 22:20

Well I think it's time for another baby here.

Rolf · 01/09/2010 22:28

lol at Spider's MiL being on a par with Steroid Bob. What's difficult is that I honestly don't understand what he's complaining about half the time. He's so incoherent and ranty and the lawyer in me just can't handle that. I kept trying to make him be more specific when I probably should have just said "ok, I'll have a word with him" and that would have calmed him down.

It was the same with the trees: whenever I asked him what he wanted us to do, he said that he wanted more light Hmm. It wasn't until months of unpleasantness that his missus said that if we could remove one particular tree everything would be great - and we did. But Steroid Bob insists that he is the voice of clarity and reason. I'm usually quite good at defusing situations and it was a skill I used very productively when I was at work so it's a bit bewildering not only to be unable to defuse it, but apparently also to wind him up even more.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 01/09/2010 22:40

Is that Plan B Dewin?

I think Eloise is a pretty name and would go well with Charlotte (for both of the people on the thread that are considering names that go well with Charlotte). Of the others mentioned so far I like Emily and Hannah. I usually have a preference for names that can be shortened in an affectionate way by close friends and family (e.g. Em for Emily) rather than proper short versions of names. Mind you, there's a lack of either for S so he will no doubt be known as Robbo throughout school.

I have been keeping up but have forgotten all that I wanted to comment on!

Biscuits - not long till our ITNG meet! Have persuaded DH to drive me West Grin

Rolf · 01/09/2010 22:54

ooh, Eloise is lovely. Harriet is lovely too (I'm biased Smile). But Charlotte and Emily are still my favourite pairing.

The children go back to school tomorrow Sad. I'd hoped to get the house back to normal but I haven't managed it which I'm irrationally disappointed about. Poor DS2 was telling me this evening that he hopes he can be more popular this year. Broke my heart Sad. He's so lovely but not sporty and quite geeky.

Dewin what new have you got??? You have dropped lots of cryptic hints and I NEED to know!

Sybil how are your bruises?

Knitting (great name!) hope you enjoy tomorrow and how annoying about your car.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 01/09/2010 23:03

Ooh, I forgot about Harriet. I like Harriet (and even quite like it abbreviated to Harry). I always thought it would be really cool to have a girls name that was like a boys name when shortened.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 01/09/2010 23:13

AARRRGGGHHH just lost a v long post on names. Can't believe it!

We have a shortlist for girls, with 3 names on it so far, only 1 of which has been mentioned and it's in position 3. like hannah, but next door have just had one and we're good friends so that would be weird, and there are too many Emily's round here, which is a shame as it's a lovely name. I am a bit fussy when it comes to names, I don't like it if there is more than one accepted spelling, so although I like Isobel and Alistair (for example) I couldn't bear the multiple spellings! We're really struggling with boys names, any suggestions gratefully received. We need to have 2 choices for each gender in case my sister delivers first and has the same name choice that we have!

Amber Charlotte is an excellent name (and has only one spelling!)

Rolf Steroid Bob sounds like he has anger management issues - is his wife better to deal with? meant to say, shame about ballet and potential nursery day clashing.

dewin Plan B going into action then? you did say after the summer didn't you? I say forget the job and concentrate on plan B.Smile

sybil you are, as always the voice of reason - on this occasion I defer to you on the Steriod Bob thing!

DGIT I'm looking forward to seeing you and S, not so sure about the show!

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 01/09/2010 23:14

oh, and Popppy, I must be a mouse as I hate raisins too!

Amberc · 02/09/2010 08:57

A fussy mouse - the cheek of it!!

Rolf - I think definitely the way through this is to chum up with the wife who sounds normal. Perhaps invite her round for a coffee to discuss any issues. It's like MArk and I, Mark goes mental first and then once I have explained things rationally he calms down.

I had such a mad dream last night - I dreamed that all the mumsnet people met up and were telling each other who they were in real life on facebook. We were all in a fairground which was the surreal bit. I have pretty much everyone on facebook but for the life of me there are only a few that I can relate to the MN names! Rolf which one are you? Are you KR? If not who is KR!!!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 02/09/2010 10:09

Dewin, best wishes with that Smile (or was that an announcement?).

Rolf, Sad at your DS.

Must get off MN and go and sort the house/ironing/work stuff/pack bag, etc. Feel positively sick at the thought of going back to work tomorrow but I'm sure I'll be fine once I get there Blush.

DewinDoeth · 02/09/2010 10:52

Crikey, no, you folks are keen! No announcement. (Hell, I had a job interview and I've been in hospital!!!) But I reckon it's time for another pg on here. Smile

But, despite the fact that I wasn't going to admit this on here (because of pressure, people knowing that I'm not pg, and not wanting to upset other TTCs on here (if there are any) etc etc). I do have a plan B. Which is to TTC. Smile

In an experimental way too. Bear in mind that DH works away. My ovulation at the mo is on weekends when he's back - so I'll be TTC on my ovulation day (well, and either side) and not other times. That's apparently a way to get a boy! (Not a scientific experiment, and makes no difference as I only want a healthy baby. But last time, same situation, TTC the once on my ovulation day and had a boy. I guess it still won't prove anything though.)

My big fear is that TTC will take ages and ages and now you'll all be thinking of me with pity and stuff. Sad And I don't want to get obsessive.

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 02/09/2010 11:18

We won't give it a second thought Dewin Wink.

Actually, I did have a horrible thought while washing up that your sickness was connected with being pg Shock! Sorry Blush.

Right, off to work again!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 02/09/2010 11:24

I'm sure Rolf is KR Amber. And rarely on fb?

Rolf - Amber's suggestion of chumming up with the wife sounds like a plan to me. I also meant to post a link ages ago to a website I happened upon about dealing with neighbour disputes and you don't have to declare ALL issues in the event of selling. Can't remember what it was but it was a website dedicated to advice on neighbour disputes so probably not too hard to find via google.

Can I also just say that in the long term being a wee bit geeky is way cooler than being sporty (apologies to any sporty types Grin). Grown up geeky boys are very cool and usually quite clever and funny IME. I know that doesn't help your DS in the short term though Rolf Sad.
