Welcome to the latest thread for mums of babies born in March ( and a few in Feb and one in April!).

Come on in. Find out who'll be pg next and who's weaning onto what.

donttrythisathome · 06/09/2010 12:34

Jealous of all those on FB. Might have to join but hate the "big brother spying on me" aspect.

Flip sounds like a great night. Post the recipe for the porridge pancake please? Me v nervous re the BLW.

Hooray DD is napping in her cot during the day on a regular basis!!! Am ECSTATIC!! Like a whole new world.

Sariska mucho sympathy. Have no advice. With my DD twas just time that solved the problem. Soooo frustrating I know but keep trying to put her down and something will "click" with her eventually. Disclaimer: What the feck do I know?!

KFed ha ha

Hello everyone else.

DH is gone away for ten days to work. Boo hoo. But my mam is coming tomorrow to keep me company.

FlipFantasia · 06/09/2010 13:48

Right, time for a proper catch up [settles in while DS naps in his buggy]

Donttry yay for your DD's sleeping! I'm Envy. The porridge pancake was quite a hit today - had it at breakfast, which was nice as we also had porridge, and the last bits at lunch. I made porridge with a quarter cup of oats (just regular oats) with just over a quarter cup of whole milk (I did a quarter cup plus half a quarter cup so technically 3/8ths if you're a fraction lover Grin). I cooked it in the microwave on full power for about 2.5 mins. I squished it into one of these Ikea bowls and left it in the fridge overnight. I then sliced it lengthways this morning and DS seemed fine with picking them up and gumming and sucking on them. I think I'll experiment with it by adding bits of fruit and things eventually. I'm going to make some drop scones tonight as we'll probably be out and about at lunch time tomorrow and I reckon that would be an easy thing to bring in a lunchbox along with the bits of fruit and veg. BTW a good tip on banana is to gently squeeze the top of a banana and it naturally separates into 3 pieces - these are much less messy than just giving a half a banana or whatever (can you tell I didn't realise this straight away and spent a fair bit of saturday morning cleaning up squished up banana Grin). I also experimented with coating one piece of banana in wheatgerm this morning but it didn't seem to make it anymore grippy...I was a bit nervous (I was practically traumatised by a paediatric first aid course I did in Aug) but the gagging hasn't been too bad and he's getting to grips with the doidy cup (his face when he gets a drenching of water is very funny). I'm glad I know what to do in a choking situation but am actually much calmer now we've started...anyway, enough BLW rambling!

Melk Grin at the pregnancy rumours! Though of course I want you to test too (will you, please? pretty please?) And what planet are you from where you think going to the gym is a good idea for curing your symptoms?!? I also love Sept btw (my birthday is also this month which may have something to do with it). I was Shock at your doctor saying thrush is trendy!

Pixie or should that be Pixney? Hope GOSH goes well. I also meant to say I hope the move goes well too. It'll be such a big thing but I have no doubt you'll handle it with your usual panache and good sense Smile. I love the change to Ophelia's middle name btw. A gorgeous name and a lovely way to honour your mum too.

BMI fully agree on the hassle of repacking - how does the same stuff not fit {though like Fliss's theory!). Sounds like you had great fun in Edinburgh and glad to hear PD's not a hairy trucker!

heckle well impressed with your list! I had a productive (if knackering) day yesterday and I feel better (and the flat looks better) for it.

Siamese have fun in Corfu!

Sariska sympathies on the sleep front. I can only add that time seems to be the only cure.

Sarah gah! The time is flying - I remember you giving up work to have Elliott and it doesn't feel like very long ago!

PD hope things are going well with your DH away - 3 days and nights with your 4 boys, hats off to you lady!

Smac well done on DD1 and her potty adventures! Sorry to hear you're lacking in enthusiasm for Baby G's weaning but am sure she'll get to grips with it soon.

Rebecca enjoy your holidays!

Arcadie hope you're enjoying your parents - and that they haven't tipped you over the edge!

Afribaby hello [waves from London]. I'm glad you popped in as I do wonder how you're getting on so lurk away as long as you update us every now and then Smile

Thinking of lurkers, how's shroomer doing? Or anna? Or designerbaby? Or drskiddadle? Or all of our other lovely March (with some Feb and one April) mums (and bookwormdad)?

OK, have to get off MN before DS wakes up as have stuff to do. Off to a weigh in clinic for the first time ever this afternoon (I want to know if the intro of solids changes his centile line so plan to have him weighed again in several months time) and am strangely nervous. Thought all my ishoos about his weight were laid to rest but perhaps not...

Toodle pip for now Smile

ValiumtheConqueror · 06/09/2010 14:01

......and I'm back in the room Grin

Grin

News from the Valium household: have been struggling with PND of late, hence being in the lurky room but when not have been starting on potty training the Pocket Dictator, weaning the Dimpled One, who has been christened the Amazingly Dimpled Human Dustbin (ADHD) by her father Hmm Not far from the truth though: she will literally scream until she is bloue in the face if she sees you eating or drinking and doesn't getting any food/drink. She's drinking from a sippy cup now (to get the milk faster) and weighs 8.2kg. After two months of steadily going backwards, she started crawling forwards on Friday and started pulling herself up on Saturday Shock so I have definitely put the baby days behind me. On which note am off to have coil fitted tomorrow- bit nervous as SPD still playing up but DH will be happy as we can resume marital relations ConfusedAnnamama has moved, not just to Bromley but literally three minutes walk away. DD1 is starting to get used to the idea of potty training and is starting nursery three days per week so I'll get to spend some alone time with Dimples.

Whilst tryin gto take a leaf out of sarah's book I have failed dismally to lose any weight or inches so will feel very blimpy at my brother's wedding in the States in two weeks.

I send sympathies to those of you who are sleep deprived: Dimples does fairly well though I end up getting up two or three times a night to shove the dummy back in.

Waves to the rest of you. Will shove the hoover round before I leave......and perhaps make a few muffins Grin

ValiumtheConqueror · 06/09/2010 15:40

Oh, they've all gone......

sunshinesarahandco · 06/09/2010 16:02

WOW flip fab post!

i feel so very honoured to be mentioned in so many posts,

Valium- i have not lost any weight for the last few weeks and it has reallt bugged me, so this week i have been very very strict and wrote a food diary and i am very much hoping for a loss art weigh in tomorrow night!!!!1[eeek]]] i can only hope, i have lost a stone at SW since elliott was 5 weeks old but still have about 5 to shift- i will do it, i will!!!!!!!Biscuit

i have had a fab morning, invited the mummy friends from school back for coffee and bacon sarnies! was fab but have had heart burn since eating the bacon! lol

angfirsttimer · 06/09/2010 17:20

So I have approximately 10 mins before DS wakes up so will try to get in as much as I can before then, I have fired up the laptop rather than trying to type on the bloody iphone which causes me to lurk rather than post more often than not.

flip glad the BLW seems to be going well. I am enjoying it too, DS seems to vary in his interest in food, he loved the pitta and hummmous today but at breakfast seemed to enjoy squishing the crumpet I gave him rather than eat it.

Melk Grin at the speed with which a pregnancy frenzy can start!

pixie or should I say britney, I have been wracking my brains for another surname that might be preferable in namesake to kfed! havent succeeded though! hope goes well at GOSH

siamese have fun in Corfu, loving the pics of DD on face book she seems to be loving the BLW too.

sarah booo for having to go back to work, I feel lucky to be self employed, no maternity pay but can go back when I fancy

Envy for those managing to lose weight, I am in denial about the extra poundage. Have done a buggy fit course but stopping now as too pricey to carry on long term with no money coming in, will now have no excuse to eat all the cake , especially as stopping BF

valium glad to see you back, and was V amused as your nickname for DD

Oh no my ten minutes are up, as if on queue DS wakes from his nap!

Quickly, sorry to all those I have missed.

On BLW front DS has come out in eczema since starting weaning (solids and formula) looks terrible all over his face, anyone elses had this?

BusyMissIzzy · 06/09/2010 19:05

Evening all, back home after journey from Hell. Turns out tending to a baby sets off my travel sickness. The journey up was OK as I had my sister with me to help out, but this time I was on my own. And Isobel was tired, restless and grumpy :( Anyway, I'm soo glad to be home.

I'm mainly popping in because this tickled me, seeing as it's the MMM mantra. It's obviously not as popular with everyone!

And siamese, I realised that I basically repeated exactly what you'd already said about Pixie being Britney Spears Blush That's what I get for trying to skim-read the thread and pack at the same time.

DizziDoll · 06/09/2010 19:18

Lurking mucho, posting poco here too.

But quickly, Ang the same has happened to DS, or so I thought. I have stopped weaning about a week ago, but it's not getting better. I am now thinking it might be because of teething, though nothing has come through yet. Somebody mentioned a cream to me today but I have forgotten the name. Had 'Merc' in it.. anyone?

angfirsttimer · 06/09/2010 19:45

dizzi my baby book says that it is usually weaning related. Popped to pharmacist who said same. She said to use an emollient (oilatum, or aqueous cream) but I have also had a cream called dream cream fro
Lush of all places recommended to me, it seems to work on his neck, wouldn't put it on his face though as it is perfumed. Can't not wean them tho so think just have to try to keep it at bay

FlipFantasia · 06/09/2010 21:14

So the weigh in today was not a success...DS is now between 2nd and 9th (was just above 9th at last weigh in at 10 weeks) and the HV gave me a talking to about how light he was - I was a little pissed off, as even when I said a consultant paed had told me at 10 weeks not to bother with weigh ins and just keep an eye on his development and general mood, she just kept banging on about how it was "vital" to weigh babies at least every two weeks. I tried asking what weighing him again in 2 weeks would achieve - he's BF on demand and I've introduced solids - but adopted a nod and smile approach when I realised it wasn't making a difference. And the room was full of women with big bouncing babies who said things like "wow, it's your first time? We come here loads and just hang out after the weighing". Luckily, DS sat happily in the middle of the floor giving great swooping cries of delight because of all the plastic toys within reach while I was having my chat with the HV, a feat that the older babies (including one 7.5 monther) couldn't achieve...so no more weigh ins for us!

poor flip that sounds v harsh.. if it helps (and i'm not sure) i haven't taken DD2 once to a weigh in.... Hmm i don't find it helps. It's for so many reasons (apart from my inbuilt dread of HVs and their patronising ignorance attitude Blush)
Look - you admitted yourself you were nervous, so perhaps you had a small insight that this would happen, and as your Paed said, don't bother.... it sounds like you know he's doing perfectly fine - trust your instinct.
My 2yo, well i don't really know what centile she's on but i'm pretty sure she's wellllllll down there if not in the negatives....(she's currently sharing skirts with her younger sister Blush). Equally i have friends who are taking their babies to the HV and sit there bragging about their 96.7% centiled child...ShockHmm. Now i'm not being funny but I'd rather my children react in the way they should and develop the way they should than bandy statistics about how long/heavy they are/are not...
Your DS sounds lush. Nuff said. (and p.s. those mums sound well boring who wants to sit around a weigh in every week)

  • Goodness MELk get OFF that soapbox!!! Blush

moving on.....
How did Pixney and her DD get on at GOSH?

evitas · 06/09/2010 21:56

Good evening ladies

just a quick "Hi" to everyone before going to bed.
I've been exhausted: I'm not sure I was ready for so many roles in my life: being a mum, wife, work - finishing my never ending thesis!

Pixie hope DD2 gets better soon

Flip try not to worry too much about the weight. I think we are all obsessed with the graphics and percentiles. Not Everyone has to big average, big, tall, thin, etc! And it seems that your DS is developing very well!

Melk pregnancy?! Hmm

Buzy and PD very Envy about meeting!

Ok... Ds is awake.
Waves to everyone else!
xx
P.S. - For those going on holiday - enjoy!

evitas · 06/09/2010 21:58

oh... Ds is 7 moths today!! :)
Photos over here

BusyMissIzzy · 06/09/2010 22:03

"Vital" to weigh babies every two weeks? Meh. I take Isobel once a month, and was planning on dropping down to every 8 weeks now that she's 6 months old. I mainly have her weighed so I know when to switch to the next size of nappy Blush

Fair enough if you had any other reason to think DS wasn't healthy Flip, but as you said yourself, he's developing perfectly normally and is obviously happy and healthy. I think the "nod and smile" approach was the right one. Also, that porridge pancake sounds interesting, I might have to give that a try sometime.

Sorry to hear about DD2 Pixie, hope they discharge her tomorrow as planned. You know, if you ever find yourself at a loose end in North London... meeting PD, Flip and rebeccad has been so much fun that now I just want to meet all of the MMMers! :)

Sorry to hear about the PND Valium . Hope you've got lots of support to get through it (and we're all here if it helps to have a bit of a vent).

BusyMissIzzy · 06/09/2010 22:06

Wow evitas, 7 months! He's just gorgeous.. such lovely big dark eyes :)

FlipFantasia · 06/09/2010 22:22

Pixie oh no - so sorry to hear DD2 is admitted again. The poor girl, she must be just so fed up with this. Fingers crossed for getting out tomorrow.

Melk Grin you just express things so brilliantly! I did indeed kind of dread expect this...and ranted as such to my DH afterwards (who's idea this officially was so he bought me flowers to apologise for "making" me go!). And I also thought "god, how boring to hang out at weighs ins every week!" Blush. TBH I look at my nieces and nephews and see that there are so different heights/builds/etc that I know it'll all come out in the wash.

Evitas oooh your DS is so gorgeous!! Happy 7 months to him Smile. And no wonder you're tired - I'm just glad you're able to post here too! I meant to say that we're off to the Costa Vicentina - to a tiny village that we first stayed in on our honeymoon - so DS will be getting some more freezing character-building Atlantic water to frolic in! Though we will head down to the Algarve for some day trips so will sample warmer water there...I'm v excited to go. I've only been to Portugal once but it's a gorgeous country with great food and v friendly people (and in my other job I work for the Portuguese tourist board Blush).

Valium [scoffs a muffin and leaves mucky streaks on freshly mopped floor] sorry to hear the PND has been rearing its head - big unMN hugs to you and lots of virtual love - though I am jealous of your nicknaming ability (my DS makes do with Mr Man and the unimaginative like Blush). Am beyond impressed with DD2's amazing crawling and standing up ability!

BMI glad you survived journey from hell and Grin at that thread. Climberchick is BookWormDad's wife so perhaps that's why he's gone quiet - we drove him away with all of our TTSPing and rocking in the corner!

Ang no experience of eczema but can you tell if there's a trigger food?

BlueyDragon · 06/09/2010 23:04

Pixie, your poor DD (and poor you). I hope she gets better soon.

Melk, I know what you mean about the weird feelings about stopping/reducing BF. Whatever we do it's "wrong", or so it seems to me sometimes. Whatever works, surely?

Valium, sorry to hear about the PND biting you again. Hope the black dog lets go and you can get back to your cleaning duties...

Sariska, glad your BIL is OK and fingers crossed for things getting better with your little 'uns.

Ang, Alex has also gone a bit eczema-ey since we started weaning particularly round his neck but that's partly because that area ends up even more sodden than usual. Sudocrem really helps him and it's quite sticky so works well as a barrier cream as well.

Flip, Shock at your HV. (The instant message system I have at work has an eye rolling smiley - Mumsnet take note, we need one)

BMI, sorry to hear about your sick journey but has Isobel's vomiting got less?

Waves and shouts to all the lurkers. I can't believe so many of us are going back to work soon - where's the time gone? Alex has his first settling in visit at nursery on Thursday, it's bonkers.

No baby moving here, I'm not sure whether to be pleased about that or not as he gets so frustrated now if he drops a toy or food - another one who goes mad if he's not given something to eat when everyone else is eating. But I did find another tooth so that's 4. Blimey.

MummyElk · 07/09/2010 07:48

Jeez whose idea was it to move dd2 into her own room....Hmm i really honestly thought she'd settle better but it seems she's hungrier more often than she was??! fed at 11, 1-2, 4, 5 and then she came into our bed..dh's alarm goes off at 6 so imagine his joy Hmm. i'm determined not to do the "I slept less than you did" bit but boy is it hard....Grin
forgot to tell you last night about the other arrow in my bow re DH.....asked him to go to supermarket on his way home. i was in the middle of a HIDEOUS dog walk with a friend (2 toddlers, 2 dogs, 2 screaming babies - none were listening to us and it was chucking it down with rain) so i couldn't really help him with his usual "when you say, Cheeeese, do you mean...." Hmm
anyway imagine my, er, surprise when presented NOT with the Aptamil I requested...but 16 bottles of actimel Shock Hmm [hands on hips emoticon] At NO point over the past week have i expressed a desire to up my probiotic intake...i have, however (as you all know) talked ENDLESSLY about whether to start formula or not...
bloody hell if you want a job done....

right got to go DD2 is hating her activity station and dd1 is taking her annoyance at me being on MN out on her
Grin at flip DH and flowers, good boy

ValiumtheConqueror · 07/09/2010 09:47

LMAO at Actimel.........Grin

Thanks for your good wishes....PND just tedious more than anything else: I want it to sod off so I don't keep having to set the alarm on my phone to take tablets by!

Pixney is best nn for our new celeb yet btw

And I heart (or however it is you are supposed to do the heart icon thingy on FB) all the comments about weighing. Sod the size and look at the development, say I. Dimples was down on 2nd centile for aaaggggggeeeees and crawled before six months so it's all a big stinky pile of cow poo anyhoo.

Pixney- comical name aside, I do hope that DD gets out of there sharpish and back to the busom of her mother large OK! shoot family xxx

Waves to all. I've stocked up the muffin supply. And I'd remind you all not to pee on dirty the floor.

BusyMissIzzy · 07/09/2010 10:03

Flip I'd forgotten that about ClimberChick. Maybe BWD picked it up from us and that's why it's bugging her Blush

Bluey I think Isobel is less sicky; she has good days and bad days, but overall I think there's been a gradual improvement. Or maybe I'm just more used to it! How is Alex doing in that department?

Melk that's too funny about the Actimel (although obviously annoying for you, and bewildering; men, eh?) And sorry to hear you had a bad night.

Thanks for the muffins Valium. I

PacificDogwood · 07/09/2010 12:21

I have no idea how many times I was up last night. Joe spent 1 hour in his bed - the rest in my arms/in my bed.

And DS3 was up x2 - he is No Longer Entitled to nighttime wakening, gah! I think he is teething too - any dentists here that know whether toddlers get further molars in their 3 year?? I seem to remember something along those line but for the life of me cannot find the strength to even google it...

Teehee at Melk Pregnancy Shocker and Actimel GrinGrin.

And sorry to hear about Pixney's daugher Sad but also Grin at celeb status.

Sympathies to Valium - PND is just horrible, hope your pills will help pull you out of it v soon.

BMI has no baby weight to lose Envy

Managed to get everybody to school/nursery this morning and did not even strangle DS2 (I say black, he says white, I say yes, he says no, I say left, he says right, etc etc ad nauseam..).
Joe had a few spoonfuls of pureed banana earlier which he then regurgitated all over floor/me/himself/sofa... That is on top of the mangetout he sucked last night and part of a digestive biscuit Blush at toddler group yesterday. He does not seem terribly keen although very interested when we are eating.

Will persever. After a little sleep, if he stays asleep beyond his statuatory 30 minutes, that is...

Toodles

Glad she's back home Pixney Pixie. Was it a new medication that she tried for the first time yesterday? If you're going to have a reaction, I suppose the hospital is the best place to have it.

P.S. Pfft PD, I have a flabby belly to rivel the best of them, but bless you for saying otherwise Wink
