So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

:o at 'no don't bite mummy'

I'm swimming against a tide of green snot at the moment, as both boys have a nasty cold. This is not making our settling in period here very restful as Mads struggles for breath when he's in his cot. I hope this isn't the beginning of another sneezefest winter...

DP will be off to work in the Scillies as of next month so it will be me and the boys and my parents... an odd family unit for us!

Not feeling particularly coherent today, sooo tired. And Mads decided to get me out of bed by throwing a whole pint of squash over me Hmm

Will be back when I can muster some sort of personality....

LJ29 · 16/09/2010 16:43

Ladyem I just don't know how you find the time, energy or inclination to study! hats off to you.

Berry, sorry the boys are ill. harry is also full of cold and was in our bed from one last night tossing and turning so I can empathise with the knackeredness.

On the plus side I've just booked next years holiday!!! we're not going until the September but my mum is coming with us to baby sit for a relaxing break! We're going back to the Jupiter/Saturno in Majorca which we loved this year and was so perfect for families, everything was geared up for entertaining children.

LJ29 · 16/09/2010 16:44

Forgot to mention that we booked with Monarch holidays and found them to be several hundred pounds cheaper than most other reputable tour operator so bear them in mind if/when you decide to book up for next year.

AprilMeadow · 16/09/2010 20:32

LJ29, you should have mentioned that you were looking at holidays.... I own a travel agency (well me, dh and our business partners) :o.. We are an independent online agency all hooked up to abta etc etc We've won awards :)

sunshine co uk is us :o We tend to be one of the cheapest online as we dont have a call centre so can keep our costs right down...

Anywho.... will step away from 'selling my wares' Wink

LJ29 · 16/09/2010 20:38

Ah well never mind!

kveta · 17/09/2010 09:38

I need to tell everyone in the world someone this - Oli slept through last night!!! 7.45-6.45!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o

so am very happy mummy (albeit one with boobs like granite at 6.45 this morning...) today!!

oh, and NHS just sent me an email saying 'you are 9 months pregnant'. um, no, that'd be 2009 you're thinking of.

good luck with the PhD Ladyem - I found mine exhausting without a child to care for too! If I wore one, I'd take my hat off to you!

hope Mads is better soon barry - I think the combo of teething and a cold plus moving house would unsettle even the hardiest of babies - Oli is still not himself with both cold and teething plus nursery. he's settling a we bit better in the mornings, but still very clingy first thing.

BerryLellow · 17/09/2010 09:45

CONGRATULATIONS! Well done young Oli :o

AprilMeadow · 17/09/2010 14:47

YAY thats brilliant!!! Well done :o

peachygirl · 17/09/2010 20:28

Thats fantastic Kveta, long may it continue!!

kveta · 18/09/2010 21:27

happy birthday to E today bigbang, and Lucy tomorrow April!

Oli's sleep has returned to normal, he was up all bloody night again last night, and is still fighting DH upstairs now. We were out all day in the open air too, so he should be knackered, but no. 5 teeth all coming in at once too, so we calpol-d him, but to no avail - clearly not as much pain as we thought. bloody child.

Ladyem · 19/09/2010 08:36

Happy Birthday to Lucy, April!!! Hope that she has a fantastic day!! Smile

Kveta - Sorry to hear that Oli is suffering. Hope that those teeth make an appearance soon!

We were in Bristol yesterday for an Airshow at the company DH used to work for. He was very excited to show DD the plane that he helped develop!! Smile Bloomin' tiring day, though and we finally got home at 9pm and just put the DCs straight to bed and collapsed on the settee!!

BerryLellow · 20/09/2010 08:13

Happy birthday to all those celebrating :)

Oh god, this teething/cold nightmare is neverending I'm sure DS1 wasn't this bad! I too am a bit 'bloody child' at the moment, actually thought I was going to lose my mind on Saturday morning. I feel like I'm just about treading water at the moment.

Anyway, enough of the poor me, what's with all the Christmas stuff being in the shops?! Aaaargh!

CompetitiveChutes · 20/09/2010 09:52

I hate teething. I hate colds. I utterly resent feeding a sniffly baby every hour throughout the night when I am at death's door and DP is fine and having a lovely nights sleep. Lots of sympathy Baz.

I will be back when I am less grumpy and less ill.

kveta · 20/09/2010 09:58

We're feeling very "bloody child" at the moment - and a lot of "god, you're lucky you're so cute".

Little turd delight whined until midnight, woke up at 3, and WANTED TO PLAY, so we bunged him back in his cot where he stood screaming for an hour until we gave in and calpoled him - to no avail. He finally wnet back to sleep at 6 am. My alarm goes off at 6.30. I was (and still am) NOT IMPRESSED. Angry Angry I nearly drop-kicked him through the door at nursery this morning.

controlled crying is starting tonight...

Oh, and we took Oli to a local national trust forest on saturday where he met some ducks up close - one pecked him on the hand, so what did he do? Run away screaming like the other child who was pecked? No, he giggled then ran at the ducks with a stick.

DH and I just looked at eachother and went "what have we created?!" Confused

This too shall pass though, right? right?!

Ladyem · 20/09/2010 10:00

Colds here too. Sad My house is a tip as I can't be bothered to tidy up at the minute.

Must admit I love the Christmas stuff coming into the shops!! Makes the end of summer more bearable if I can look forward to the festive season! (BTW what on earth happened to summer? 3 weeks a go I was putting sun cream on and having a picnic in the sunshine, today I am turning the heating on!!)

Sympathies on the colds. Have a feeling this is just the beginning of one long cold until next year. The joys of playgroup germs!!!

Ladyem · 20/09/2010 10:08

x-post Kveta!

Oh no! You have my sympathies. Must be awful when you have to get up so early for work. I'm not surprised you are feeling like that!

It will pass.

LJ29 · 20/09/2010 10:56

More colds here too, fighting against a tide of snot and chesty cough. Harry still wakes at night but a few weeks ago we really put our foot down and decided no more milk at night, he doesn't need it, its just habit and we no longer pick him up when he wakes. We just lay him back down and pat him back to sleep. It sometimes takes 15 minutes or so but he now only wakes once which we can just about handle. It was difficult at first but has definitely been worth it so best of luck Kveta!

BerryLellow · 20/09/2010 12:49

Good luck Kveta, I don't know how you do it, I couldn't go and be human in a workplace after some of the nights I've had recently

This too shall pass... Hmm

I feel a bit 'what have I created?!' about Mads sometimes. He's currently shredding a stack of paper napkins on the dining room floor, which he moved onto after repeatedly baging a metal saucepan lid onto the kitchen floor tiles. He was also swinging off our (big) dog's ears earlier - who was looking at me as if to say 'please do something'. Wish I knew what, mate... :) It's a good job he's gorgeous too, I can almost forgive him anything. I reserve the right to be grumpy and fed up of parenthood at the moment though.

Sympathies and solidarity to all those suffering at the moment. We'll look back and laugh one day, honest!

just a pop in will be back

kveta · 21/09/2010 11:24

it's like a bad sitcom in our house at the moment. Last night Oli only woke at midnight, then fell asleep in our bed. All going well, we were on course for a decent night's sleep for a change - then the battery in the smoke alarm decided that 4 am was a great time to die, thus we were all woken by that hideous beep of a dying smoke alarm Angry

I picked him up from nursery yesterday and he'd only slept for 30 minutes, so god alone knows where he's getting his boundless energy from. Life with a toddler would be so much easier if they were the ones desperate for sleep whilst the parents were bouncing off the walls like free electrons :o

I should add barry and stayfrosty- I'm barely human at work - I get in, drink a diet coke (for the caffiene) then squint at my computer for a few hours before going home. I feel a bit sorry for my colleague who keeps catching me gazing uncomprehendingly at the screen. It has taken me the past 5 months back at work to remember how to use the UNIX system, now just to learn what I'm meant to be doing with it :o

chutes - didn't see you there with your crafty namechange! how was your holiday? hope you and gabe are better soon and you get that most elusive of things, a decent night's sleep sometime soon. I've heard they do exist.

I also want to say to all of you - thank god you're here to rant to! my friends in the real world all have sleeping babies who don't destroy large swathes of lounge when they turn their backs - it's so nice to know mine isn't the only demon crossed with a tornado :o so thanks :)

BerryLellow · 21/09/2010 12:20

Oh god, you must have been livid kveta! I hate those situations, because you really need to be able to blame someone or something and it's just one of those bloody things that happen. Like finally getting your toddler to sleep before the people across the road have a cooker delivered by comet in a fark off great lorry Hmm Actually I blame them for that the inconsiderate fools.

Yes, Chutes, sneaking in like that :o At least you aren't being called Barry now Wink

I'm also grateful for the ability to press rantlock on my keyboard on a regular basis!

On a lighter note, a friend sent me some Chanel makeup this morning as a thank you for doing her wedding hair at short notice :)

CompetitiveChutes · 21/09/2010 17:02

It's not permanent, I namechanged on Sunday and spent the day sulking in bed writing toy reviews and submitting recipes in the hope to win a toy or a telly.

It is also a nod to the competitive sleeping competitions DP and I have had since Gabe's arrival. I hate them. And I am way more tired than him. DP had a hissy fit on Sunday morning when it became apparent I was too ill to get up, moaning it was his last chance for a lie-in. I couldn't respond as I was too busy hacking my lungs up.

We had a fab holiday though Smile We didn't do an awful lot other than mooch around, lots of walking (or the land train if we couldn't face some hills). Gabe swung in lots of swings, and we took him swimming in their AMAZING pool complex. We had lots of leisurely lunches and Gabe was brilliant, behaved so well and was happy to sit and eat and people watch. I really thought it would be years before we could enjoy a meal out with him. Think we will go again next year as it is so child orientated and full of young families.

I am also so grateful I can rant on here. I have lots of lovely friends but not many with children, I feel so free I can witter on about Gabe and my lack of sleep here. I will treasure having a record of my pregnancy and his early years as well.

kveta I used to support and write UNIX user guides

bigbang · 21/09/2010 17:16

Hey all!

Thanks for remembering dd's birthday Kveta :) We had a lovely little party, it went very well and everyone had a nice time for a change (well one minor blip but that was my fault ). Dd is a little monkey, she is very adamant what she wants and has taken to screaming when she doesn't get it. Ds is not amused!

Her sleeping is hit and miss. Some nights great and others crap. I am just drifting through to be honest, in a haze. I saw a couple of videos on dp's phone which I didn't know were there of dd at an hour old. He showed my on her birthday, it was so so lovely and made me realise how far she has come so at the moment she is being forgiven everything. Sorry to those who are struggling, sleep deprivation is pure torture.

Congratulations on number four April! I'm a bit rubbish with facebook but have seen your announcements on there now! It will be lovely to have two close in age :)

Happy birthday to all the little ones I have missed!

Ladyem · 22/09/2010 18:08

Gahhhhhh!!! 3 year olds!!
