So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

Thanks Peachy! It feels so good to be able to relax in the evenings instead of getting my books out! Xmas Grin On the sling thing, I still use my kari-me sling, but have him on my hip instead of on my front and he likes it as he feels like he is being carried, but I don't have to support his weight, so I can carry stuff and hold DD's hand etc.

Hope you have a lovely trip, arudolf!

All set for Christmas here! Just need to do the ironing mountain pile to clear the kid's room and then can relax and enjoy! Tesco cancelled my food delivery yesterday because we have quite a bit of snow here, but DH went and fetched it instead and when we bought it all in it filled our hallway!! Think I may have gone a bit over the top!! Xmas Blush At least if we get snowed in we will have plenty to eat!! Xmas Grin

ChimneysTooNarrow · 23/12/2010 12:00

Oooh I want a Kari-me sling, I'm always watching them on ebay.

Tesco are due anytime. There is no snow here now, and two Asda vans have successfully delivered to neighbours this morning. There is no excuse Tesco!

ChimneysTooNarrow · 23/12/2010 13:03

Well I feel bad for ever doubting Tesco! All my Christmas food is present and accounted for. My darling son also slept through its arrival and unpacking Shock

HollyBerryLelloHoHo · 23/12/2010 21:16

Just coming by to say have a fantastic Christmas all of you! We're off tomorrow to The Log Cabin Holiday and have enough food to sink a battleship! I'm sure I'll be back on before the new year, but if I'm not, thank you all for the lovely chat and support this year

Xmas Grin cheers! Xmas Grin

Ladyemmalemmadingdongbells · 23/12/2010 21:48

Chutes, that's why I bought that one, I know I can sell it on ebay for a decent return!! Xmas Wink I was never really a 'sling person' as I need my space every one in a while, but it got me through some bad times when J just didn't want to be put down and I have in the past cooked tea while BFing him in it and also carried on shopping in a big shopping centre while BFing him in it!! Xmas Grin I would highly recommend it!

Berry - have a fantastic time at the log cabin!! Hope that it is a lovely relaxing break! Xmas Grin I also think that this thread has been brilliant for all the support, you've all been fab!!

2 more sleeps!! So excited!! Poor DD has been subject to me going mad with Christmas crafts, when all she wants to do is to cut up paper with her little scissors!! ( This is also what she asks to do when she gets to nursery as they have 'proper' scissors!) Someone told me how to make 'reindeer food' so we are going to do that tomorrow and I might attempt some mince pies or biscuits to leave out for Santa! (But will probably end up with burnt cakes and put out some Mr Kipling mice pies instead!! Xmas Grin )

Hope that you all have a very happy Christmas!! Xmas Grin

bigbang · 24/12/2010 09:16

Hey all, sorry I have been a bit pants lately... We have been ill.

Dp has been staying in London while he finishes his notice at work (new job in Jan) because of the snow and difficulty commuting so I have been on my own. He finally got home last night, but is now also ill and so asleep upstairs! I am so, so tired. He did offer to get up but he looks like death so I was kind Grin.

Dd and ds have been sleeping badly due to illness and now dd has a lovely swollen gum, ready to pop a molar out just in time for christmas... Woo what fun we will have tonight

Looking forward to mince pies and mulled wine this afternoon as we don't need to drive anywhere today. Although ds will be helping me make the mince pies so I am not sure how they will turn out!

We had big christmas tree angst as we went to buy ours to find B&Q and the garden centre pretty much sold out... This was on the 19th! The had a few more out by Monday so we got one but it's rather small, ds has put every single decoration that we own on it so it's very well adorned! Next year I will buy early and keep it outside till it is close enough to christmas to put it up. I can't believe how quickly they all went. Last weekend felt early to me, as a child it was always Christmas Eve we got one.

Well I wish you and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. We are away ooop north for a week or so after xmas so I'm not sure if I will be able to get on, so probably speak to you all in 2011!

peachygirl · 24/12/2010 16:23

Good to see a few faces here I will be around as we are here for christmas on our own which is nice.
I'll have a look at the Kari me. is that a wrap? I'm a bit Xmas Hmm about them as I'm such a shortarse. I really didn't get on with the mei tai I had the straps were far too long.
We have had a couple of nice days out, locally, lots of charity shops. Reigate and Banstead. I think I would like to go back with no children. I need to get a few bits for wor having pretty much ruined a pair of work trousers in December.

I don't know if I'll be back on today so.. Merry Christmas everyone!!

Ladyemmalemmadingdongbells · 26/12/2010 08:15

Hey all, just a quicky to say that I hope that you all had a fantastic Christmas day!! We had lots of fun and food with my Mum and step-dad and now I get to do it all again as my Dad and step-mum are coming over today!! Think I will flake out tomorrow!

Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone!!! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

peachygirl · 28/12/2010 17:20

Hi hope everyone is OK. Pretty good christmas here although not the best day with DD1 today.

It seems that Zoe has just been cutting a cainine (bit early) No wonder she has been moaning .. I have been dishing out the calpol

ChutesTooNarrow · 29/12/2010 16:31

Hello!

I had an ace Christmas, hope everyone else did. Gabe is also cutting canines and so miserable and non-sleeping at night. The very last one is nearly through but his gum looks so painful and his fingers are constantly in his mouth. I so need a break from teething after this (I imagine Gabe does as well Grin).

Gabe is a cool little dude at the moment, he likes spinning round in circles until he collapses in a giggly heap and he is fond of walking backwards until he crashes into something. He will show you where his tummy or toes are if you ask but is refusing to learn any other body parts. He demanded, via the medium of squeaks and points, to hold my fork on xmas eve and started feeding himself with it. He now has a fork and spoon with every meal and is getting really good at stabbing his food with them. We still don't have any clear words but he is managing to communicate quite efficiently with us. I did get called mum once which was quite awesome.

Anyway, enough of me babbling. I am now thinking forward to 2011 and I am optimistic this is the year I will sleep!

HollyBerryLelloHoHo · 30/12/2010 12:50

Yes Chutes, until you get pregnant and then sleep gets broken again with toilet trips/restless legs/nausea :o :o :o

Hello everyone, we had an amazing time at the cabin, it was very lovely - snow outside and ducks/geese landing on the frozen lake beside our balcony. All very picturesque! The boys loved having children to tear about with and we basically ate our way through the entire weekend (now where did I put that 30 day shred dvd???) The best part has to be the hot tub though, and after we had all 5 (!) children tucked up we managed to soak for a while with some nice prosecco.... heaven!

We're all still suffering with the nasty cold cough that hasn't gone away for the entire month. Poor J was up with croup last night, which meant by the time we'd calmed him down he fell asleep in our bed. Thus I was relegated to his bed and spent the night bent in two (not sleeping) Still, DP took them both off to see his nan this morning so I got a nice long lie in, so all is not lost!

Did Santa get you all what you wanted?

peachygirl · 30/12/2010 19:43

Hi, the teething has calmed down here.but Zoe is still being a tinker!

I did quite well from Santa this year although I did ask DH for some perfume and he couldn't get it, I'll put a request in for mothers day.

I got a silver necklace, I chose this after looking for one for ages. A bracelet. DH chose this and it isn't really my thing but I will wear it and a couple of books.

DD1 is being a bit mad at the moment. Christmas went well and we have just made the possible mistake of buying her birthday present early - a bike. Our local bike shop had a massive sale on. She is totally in love with it. Me and DH have bought ourselves a micro scooter to keep up with the as she zooms off into the distance. Which I have to admit is great fun!

arudolf · 30/12/2010 20:35

hi all, on dial up here and god it's slow! christmas was ok, very quiet, BIL remains a bit mad, his girlfriend even madder - they managed to trump the wedding present (the art of war in czech and a bag of tea) with the most spectacular christmas presents for me - a litre bottle of stain remover (gift wrapped twice), a bottle of hairspray (why?!) and a tube of treatment for dyed hair (I don't dye my hair. or use hair spray). DH got bath salts and a bath bomb, which was equally baffling. He also got a brown shirt from his father so I've suggested he join the BNP on our return Grin. All most odd.

It's fricking freezing over here now - the UK weather has finally got here, and it got down to -20 overnight, so Oli is confined to the flat and is not impressed. Sleep continues to be bloody awful.

better go, dH muttering about cost of dial up. will ctch up in 2011!

happy new year one and all!!

AprilMeadow · 30/12/2010 22:11

Hello all! Wow, that has taken a while to catch up!
Firstly, sorry for being sooooo crap at posting!

Arudolf - very late responses
1: no, we dont allow the kids to have nuts here until they are 5
2: Lucy is a 3.5f. Oli does not have clown feet, they are perfectly normal
3: As you know through FB I trimmed Lucy's fringe for her '1st' haircut but then took her to a hairdressers to get it done properly the 2nd time. Mainly as they keep a lock of hair and take a picture and then laminate the whole lot as a keep sake :). If you are able to do it yourself then why not!
4:Go for a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Ours are on most of the time and I would have such a backlog of clothes if i had to wait for a washer/dryer to do its thing!
5: Pillows from 1 year.. I havent put Lucy on one yet as she is a wriggler, although she will be moving into Dd1's toddler bed in the next few weeks so that we can free the cot up for the new arrival and will probably have one then.
6: She insists on feeding herself so we tend to have to deal with the monumental mess she makes each time. It is quite cute :)

OOOh Arudolf, what lovely gifts you have!! Make sure that for birthdays and next Christmas they get the shittest gifts known to man!

Lucy is now a walking talking little girl that just makes me smile all the time. She still looks too little to be walking even though she is the latest one to do it. Ds was 11mths and dd1 was 13mths, L took her sweet time and waited until 14mths.

Nothing else major to report other than I have now reached the 3rd trimester - WOO HOO. 27wks today, which seems to have gone really quickly.

Not up to anything tomorrow night as dont see the point - bah humbag :)

AprilMeadow · 30/12/2010 22:13

Also, Arudolf if you are ever down by Frimley do let me know as I am only 15mins away! All my dc's have been born at the hospital as well as myself and my brother :). The snow was pretty bad but nothing like the north of country had.

peachygirl · 31/12/2010 21:08

Happy New year everyone Grin

LJ29 · 31/12/2010 22:15

HAPPY NY LADIES! hERE'S TO LOTS OF SLEEP AND LESS TEETHING!

AprilMeadow · 01/01/2011 00:26

Happy New Year Ladies! May this be a great year for us all xx

ChutesTooNarrow · 01/01/2011 11:35

Happy New Year! I went to bed at half past ten last night

Will be back in a bit to ask about toddler beds...

OP posts:
AprilMeadow · 01/01/2011 12:24

hmmm toddler beds..... I think it might take a whole for Lucy to get used to the bed... Just tried putting her in and she was up and down playing, so decided to stick her in the cot and she went straight to sleep.

Will have to try the softly softly approach i think!

LJ29 · 01/01/2011 13:00

My eldest went into a normal bed as I needed the cot, didn't bother with toddler bed as we already had bunk beds. Took a while to settle him and if I remember rightly I did have to put a stairgate across his room to stop him escaping! Can't remember exactly how old they were but somewhere between 15 and 18 months, DD was much easier but I did convert the cot into a junior bed for her.

ChutesTooNarrow · 01/01/2011 15:09

Oh fab, was worried I was mad for considering a bed so soon. I figure I have nothing to lose as at the moment Gabe sleeps on a mattress on the floor of his room or my bed. We can put him in the travel cot in his room if he is asleep but I am fed up with the hysterics when he wakes up and realises he is caged. I was looking at the toddler beds in Ikea but will look at full sized beds as well I think.

OP posts:
AprilMeadow · 01/01/2011 20:26

We have only just put dd1 into a single bed and she is 3.8yrs, would have waited until she turned 4 but given that number 4 arrives before then I had to do the bed jiggle a bit sooner.

Chutes, how much does he wriggle at night? If he doesnt move then go for a single with bed guards but if he wriggles lots then try a cheapy toddler bed first. Lucy is a wriggler but luckily the bed she has has got build on wooden guards that go half way down so hopefully this should contain her once she starts to sleep in it.

peachygirl · 01/01/2011 20:37

We went from the cot bed as a cot to a bed when DD1 could climb out of it.

In hindsight we should have introduced a pillow and maybe a duvet before, but we just did it in one go. She was fine. What we found useful was external locks (just latch type) on the other doors upstairs. Then if she got out of bed she couldn't get into any other rooms. She did get out of bed and we did put her back but we also left her and the landing was so boring she would just go back to bed.

Zoe will go into the bottom bunk of bunk beds probably around the time she is 2 as DD1 will need to come out of the cot bed then and I am imagining that zoe will be able to climb out of the cot.. She will have a bed guard.

A good day for us, we went to the new years day parade in London. This time I took zoe in a framed backpack we were given and it was better than my pouch sling.
Yesterday we went to the shoe shop and got both girls boots in the sale. Zoe's feet have grown only a little. She is now a size 3. Her shoes are fine but I wanted something a bit more substantial if we are going to get more bad weather. She isn't going to fit into a pair of wellies for ages!

arudolf · 03/01/2011 18:08

hiya,
we're still in the Czech Rep, should be home tomorrow! can't wait!

we are thinking of a bed for Oli if we ever get the new house - he was on an inflatable toddler bed over christmas though, and kept rolling out of it into odd positions, so we'll need bed guard rails. if the cot bed remains intact (it's old and decrepit) he'll stay in that a while longer though. I think his feet have grown again, so his shoes are really snug. A trip to Freeport beckons methinks...

hope you all had lovely new years! We watched Czech television for
4 hours. god alone knows how I stayed awake, I was bored out of my mind. I spent the time winding DH up, whihc is always fun :o

can't wait to get back, and start eating vegetables again - FIL is an amazing cook, but is very keen on the use of lard, and averse to fresh vegetables unless they are pureed with cream, so I am almost rolling around I'm so plump/obese.
