So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

Hello everyone, are we all warm? :)

Hope you had a good birthday Peachy

I'm not long back from the GP myself, with a prescription for ABs for Mads. He's had this awful chesty cold/cough for 2 weeks now, so I thought I should pull my finger out and get him looked at Blush The lady I see is lovely, so I'm very lucky there. Sorry yours is a twunt kveta, there seems to be alot of them out there with absolutely no 'bedside manner' these days. Caring profession my arse.

Had a bit of a shit/weird weekend. DP and I have some things to face that will change everything and I feel quite Xmas Confused Sorry to be cryptic, and I'm not trying to attention seek, I just don't think writing it all out now is the best laid plan :) Just in case I am a bit absent or strange

Why is life never simple?

ChimneysTooNarrow · 07/12/2010 13:31

Hope things are ok Baz?

Gabe is sleeping 4-5 five hours stints now and I am amazed at how different I feel. I have a horrible feeling another tooth is due as he has horrid nappy rash so I shall enjoy this sleep while it lasts.

Ladyem · 07/12/2010 15:35

Hope all is OK, Baz. If you need anything you know where we are. Xmas Smile

Great news on the sleep, Chimneys!! Xmas Grin You never know this tooth may pop through without any trouble!! We have 2 new teeth, finally. They have been coming through for weeks and J has been very upset about it. Hopefully he'll get some relief from it for a while now.

Ooo and at long last the decorating is finished and we are back in our room!! Over 2 weeks of sleeping on the settee! Now just have to get my assignments in and I can relax and start to enjoy the festive season! Mince pie, anyone?!!

arudolf · 07/12/2010 16:33

hope all is ok barry, and is sorted soon.

well done to gabe on the sleep at last - although whenever oli has a few decent nights, the really bad ones seem worse somehow. He managed 5 hours last night after massive amounts of painkillers were squirted down his neck before bed. So DH and I are somewhat less infanticidal today Xmas Grin

yay to sleeping in your own bed ladyem! we're buying our first bed for the new house - it's been furnished rental properties all the way here, so hugely excited to get a king sized bed and stretch out a bit!!

Ladyem · 08/12/2010 08:36

Liking the Christmas name, Kveta!! Xmas Grin

Ladyemmalemmadingdongbells · 08/12/2010 08:47

Best I could come up with!! Xmas Grin

arudolf · 08/12/2010 13:22

I like it ladyem!!

oli is so miserable with his ears and teeth hurting just now, wish I could magic the discomfort away (at least between 7pm and 7am...). Although it can't be that bad - we were woken at 3.30 this morning by "bubble bubble bubble POP!" being babbled from the cot Xmas Hmm

HollyBerryLelloHoHo · 08/12/2010 14:05

That's going to take a long time to type!

Ladyemmalemmadingdongbells · 08/12/2010 18:39
Xmas Grin
arudolf · 09/12/2010 12:48

anyone want to guess what hours oli slept last night?

HollyBerryLelloHoHo · 09/12/2010 15:40

all of them?

ChimneysTooNarrow · 09/12/2010 16:02

More than Gabriel? (who did 8-9, 9.15-11, 2.30-5, 5.30-8)

The payback for his increased length of sleep is a new fun thing where he is awake for 2-3 hours in the middle of the sodding night. I possibly preferred the hourly waking Hmm

arudolf · 09/12/2010 16:31

12 hours!! he went down at 7, woke briefly at 11 for a yell and some calpol, then slept until 7.30 Xmas Shock

we had the middle of the night fart-around for a while chimneys, it's no fun. hope he continues to improve.

ChimneysTooNarrow · 09/12/2010 17:03

Shock well done Oli! Did you get to sleep as well? As I always get insomnia when Gabe sleeps for more than ten minutes.

arudolf · 09/12/2010 17:25

ha, no, of course not Grin
he was in our bed from 11, and doing the starfish impression he mastered early on in his life. Still, no screaming bairn to deal with in the wee small hours was lovely!

Ladyemmalemmadingdongbells · 09/12/2010 18:48

Fab news, arudolf! Long may it continue!! Xmas Grin (Oli sleeping, that is, not you not sleeping!! Xmas Grin )

arudolf · 10/12/2010 13:18

oh, berry, I meant to say - I was using one of those herbal essences shampoos the other day, think it's a 2 in 1 in a green bottle. anyway, on the back it says something along the lines of "makes your hair berry berry shiny and berry berry clean". It made me think of you/mn Blush Xmas Grin

god I'm bored at work. 40 minutes until I can leg it, but I'm giving my colleague a lift home, so will be trapped in the car with no escape for 30 minutes whilst he talks at me. GAH! still, got some friends coming over with their children this afternoon so we can get pissed drink mulled wine and eat minky pies, yay! almost feeling christmassy!

anyone doing anything exciting this weekend?

HollyBerryLelloHoHo · 10/12/2010 15:50

minky pies? Xmas Grin

I am a berry berry shiny person Xmas Wink

I've just had my list of what's happening next week from J's school. Hmmmm don't think my feet will be touching the ground, there's something on EVERY day!

Going to a wedding reception tomorrow night, but that's about it. Went to a Jamie Oliver party last night. Poncetastic Xmas Grin

peachygirl · 10/12/2010 20:24

Hi all, I don't think I 've missed anything , Hope you are all well.
Things here good I had an afternoon with Zoe today and went shopping - mothercare had a great toy sale on and I got her an extra christmas present. One of those bead run things. She was really enjoying the one at te childminders. It isn't huge so will fit on the toy shelves.
I've started selling a few baby bits on ebay. Gulp.

arudolf · 13/12/2010 11:15

helloo there!

where is everyone?

please don't tell me you're all actually spending quality time with your child/ren?!

actually may I ask some pretty bloody stupid questions that have been bugging me?

  1. when is it safe for babies to eat whole nuts? my friend gives her DD pistachios already (and her DD is 1 week younger than Oli) and thinks we are being precious.
  1. what size are your DCs feet? Oli is a 5, and same friend's DD is 2.5 - so friend has been going on about Oli having huge great clown feet. Not sure if I can be arsed to worry about this, but is he large of foot, or is her DD so teeny she'll fall over on her mini-fairy feet?
  1. Do you think it's ok for his first hair cut to be of the mummy-hacking-at-it-with-scissors variety, or should we find a proper hair dressers?

and finally

  1. do you have a washing machine and tumble drier or washer drier? which would you recommend? we have space for both in New House, but not sure which to opt for.

many apologies for being a moron, it's been a long weekend without sleep (and my friend is bugging me monumentally, would you ever guess?! if she tells me ONE MORE TIME how monumentally gifted her totally normal DD is, I'll throw my apparently below par child at her with his freak feet Xmas Angry

LJ29 · 13/12/2010 11:49

HIya, I know its quiet on here isn't it!

For what its worth harry has size 5 feet too so I don't think its anything to worry about. My neice is only 5 weeks younger than him and has size 2.5 so it may also be a gender thing?

Harry has had his hair cut by my mother in law who is a hairdresser but did have to follow him around the living room for half an hour doing it as he just wouldnt sit still so it wasn't perfect but he still looks cute!

I have a washer and a drier and would recommend this if you do as much washing as me because you can have another load into wash while the first load is drying.

What is not so cute about H at the moment is that after3/4 weeeks of him sleeping 11 hours a night he has reverted to waking at 4am. I know i'm lucky he sleeps for that long in the first place its just a bit of a bugger when I had got used to him sleeping and having to get up for work at 6.30 anyway.

HollyBerryLelloHoHo · 13/12/2010 11:55

well..

  1. Not entirely sure, but I won't be risking high drama choking incident with Mads anytime soon. I'd rather be called precious Xmas Smile
  1. I think a nearly 4 (but he's dinky) his size 3 trainers are becoming a bit of a squash so am guessing we need some new ones. Size 5 sounds fione to me.
  1. Yes, absolutely (that's all my children get Xmas Wink ) Plus it's nice to do the proper haircut thing before preschool/school when they are 'all growed up'
  1. Washing machine of immense capacity (9kg) I heart it. Mini tumble drier for bits and pieces - I don't generally do bedding/towels in it. Friends who have the washer drier combo situation say it can be a PITA as you can only be doing one or the other at any time. (I frequently have all appliances running at warp speed simultaneously)
  1. (Optional extra answer) I think your friend maybe over compensating and possibly a bit jealous - Oli is clearly a very beautiful and funny boy. Take it as a compliment.

HTH

Xmas Grin
arudolf · 13/12/2010 12:16

ha, I just googled whole nuts and babies, and it says here not to give them until the child is 5. Glad I'm not just being a loon.

thansk for answer 5 barry Xmas Grin friend is lovely really but is super competitive or something - her DD is a GENIUS according to her - anytime we're ina group and one of the mums mentions something new her child has done, the accepted response is 'aww, how clever' or 'oh, my child hasn't done tht yet/did that later than your child'. Not 'my DD has done that for ages. She's so clever' which is what friend does EVERY time! She's an older mum, and the rest of us do roll our eyes behind her back a wee bit, but how do you say to someone "your child is NORMAL' without it sounding like jealousy?! Xmas Grin

hope H goes back to sleeping properly again soon LJ - Oli is back to one wake a night, so although it's a massive improvement on no sleep at all, we're still knacked.

washing machine and tumble dryer is sounding like the way forward then. hmm. better go and do some googling!

thanks!

ChimneysTooNarrow · 13/12/2010 12:19

Hello, I'm around. Was doing lots of family stuff at the weekend.

  1. Dunno, Gabe eats peanut butter but we haven't had whole nuts around for him to try or he probably would eat them.

  2. Size 4, Clarks annoyed me by declaring he has the widest size they do but this hasn't been a problem in the places we have actually bought him shoes (Sainsbos). Need to get him measured again he is probably nearing a 5.

  3. I intend for Gabe's golden locks to grow free and wild for a few years and I will probably get them cut at the hairdressers. I have too many horrible memories of wonky mum cut fringes for me to try and cut his hair.

  4. In my experience combined washer dryers are a bit gash. We had a rubbish one when we lived in a flat. I now have a swanky fancy pants washing machine and a cheapy small tumble dryer. I love my tumble dryer in the winter as I can't stand having damp things drying around the house. Also with strict washing machine/ tumble dryer co-ordination I can wash and dry three lots of washing in a day (go me and my exciting life!)

Questions from me:

  1. When can you introduce a pillow? As Gabe has taken to falling asleep with his head on a pillow. He looks so comfy but I am pfb and remove the pillow when he has fallen asleep.

  2. When does cutlery start being used? I offer Gabe a loaded spoon or fork, he looks at me like I am mad, removes food from offered spoon or fork and then stuffs it in his mouth with his fingers.

Gabe slept 8.30 to 4 last night Shock Shock I was awake half 2 until 4 for no apparent reason though Hmm

ChimneysTooNarrow · 13/12/2010 12:22

Yes I do the all appliances running at warp speed when I am on an efficiency drive as well. Get washing machine, dryer, dishwasher going, kettle on to make a well deserved cup of tea and then I studiously avoid the electricity monitor.
