Hi Ladies,

I hope you don't mind, I started a new thread as our first one was quite full! I can't believe we're a quarter-way through the first year already! Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
egopostulosomnus · 07/12/2010 15:08

hello...
wow luceelou, well done you! so impressed, a whole new life coming your way!!!

pigley, first tooth at 14m, thats not something i heard of before but at least she couldnt bite your nipples Xmas Grin. has anyone experienced that joy yet? (still no teeth here)

carikube, that health visitor sounds dangerous, is there a head office you could complain to?

molly, ouch at the thrush again! i thought maybe i was getting it at the weekend as it hurt when i started feeding her, however, we had been to a christmas food fayre and i had given her a piece of the most delicious bacon to chew on, little did i know she had bitten of a chunk, which was still in her mouth and it was that which scratched my nipple lol Xmas Blush taught me to be a little more careful watching her food though

today is her half birthday....already! i believe she is the youngest from the may thread so thats us all into the second half now

this morning we took her to her first ever christmas party at the baby sensory class, she just had a ball and it was so nice to see all the babies in their christmas outfits, perhaps we ought to have a first christmas photo album on fb ( or is it already there and i just havent looked)

anyway, time to go, love to you all xx

Carikube · 07/12/2010 17:41

Pigley - DD1 had her first tooth before 6 months and had 16 by the time she was a year old so was just tearing through meat etc. I guess I sort of expected DD2 to follow the same pattern (esp as there seemed to be lots of teething discomfort a few weeks ago) but I guess each child is different!

DancingThroughLife · 07/12/2010 18:49

Congrats Luceeloo. I was only thinking about you the other day. So glad things are looking up.

Cari/Pigley - we're really lucky round here that the HVs seem to be on the right wavelength. They're the ones who have been really impressed with me still ebf-ing until 6 months (no hint of suggesting formula or early weaning) and they're big advocates of BLW.

Molly - ouch. I haven't had that particular treat yet, so I can only offer my sympathies.

Ego, thinking of you with the sleep. I thought I was struggling

Darcey's coming on a treat. Now that she's better at self settling, she naps sooooo much better and is in a better mood all round. She still wakes up a couple of times a night. I've been putting a blanket over her grobag which seems to help a bit, so I think she's a bit cold sometimes too.

As I type she's desperately trying to push herself up. I think she'll be crawling by Christmas. She's getting up on her hands and feet, then collapsing from the effort Xmas Grin Lots of backwards shuffling from pushing on her arms so much to.

No teeth, although she's been showing signs of teething for about 3 months now Xmas Hmm I think she's probably just sensitive to them and they'll be a while yet.

wouldliketoknow · 07/12/2010 20:28

hi all
molly sorry for the thrush, hope it gets better soon, don't worry about freaking out at gp, it's just he has a baby too and an image of him expressing came into my head, sick humour, i know...
lucee congrats on the new life!!!!!!!!!
baby just woke up have to go will be back later

wouldliketoknow · 07/12/2010 21:02

right, back...
no teeth here either, but eating a lot too, hv said to introduce pasta mixed with the veg now, and then meat...
movement here is rather limited too, sitting up beautifully, but croaling quite challenging...
pigley lovely pictures of the snow, we had a bit but not so much tomlin, was it you with the village snowed in?... we had a tiny bit for 3 days, not like that stopped the royal mail from delivering for a week...
i can't remember much more, hope i didn't forget anyone...
note to self: must post more often, so i don't forget what to say...

TomlinTowers · 07/12/2010 23:19

Yay we have milk and bread in the village shop!! Finally!! Although pavements still like an ice rink. Our deputy headteacher has fallen over today and broken his ankle on the school car park, so they have AT LAST decided to grit the car park and path so we can at least walk to playgroup without slipping all the way. Why do they only act after someone has hurt themselves seriously?!

No teeth here yet, DS had his first teeth at 8 months, so probably a bit early yet. Lots of chewing though.

Shock at the HV's advice. How can they be so out of date? Imagine if you were a new mum with no other source of information? Very dangerous IMO.

Molly - ouch on the thrush. I have been following the tales of your missing tree chocs on facebook - have you discovered the culprit?!

hormonalmum · 08/12/2010 22:25

hello everyone - as usual I am useless at keeping in touch / catching up.

I was hoping to catch up tonight as dh is away but all 3 dc are ill with various bugs so I have only had chance to read the last page of the thread having sat down not long ago. Poor dd1 looks like missing her school xmas party tomorrow.

dd2 is starting to enjoy her food - seems to like sandwiches and tuna. I tend to feed her breakfast (well, I let her have a spoon) and I spoon in whilst she is messing! I have a tight schedule in a morning, so no time for messing around! I am more relaxed about blw with the other meals. Is it just honey I need to avoid until she is 1? I was very strict when dd1 was weaning and now I am the other extreme.

Got busy weekend lined up - putting the tree up and got mil here yet again (she was only here 2 weeks ago and it is hard work) Dh and I are meant to be going out for a meal too but that will depend if my mum is better and if all dc are ok too.

Right off to bed to get some rest if I can.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 09/12/2010 08:16

Hormonalmum - good to hear from you, hope your DCs feel better soon. I think it is just honey really, but can't remember for certain. Hope the weekend with your MIL goes well!

Tomlin - glad you've finally got supplies. :( about your railway trip

Carikube - glad you've had a talk with your DH and that things are going a bit better. That HV sounds dangerous :(

Molly - have you found out who ate the choc decs yet? Hope your thrush clears up quickly

Luceeloo - congratulations :) Great to hear from you, so happy for you that everything's looking up.

We all still have this nasty cold/cough here, seems to be so much around this year. DD is being quite clingy and whiny because she feels rubbish :( DS is OK and is sleeping better now, such a relief! After our boiler broke and needed fixing, our oven has now broken as well, it's only 2 years old Hmm We're talking to Boots about them replacing/refunding/repairing it since we bought it for them and I don't think it's fit for purpose if it's broken after 2 years. Very annoying though and leaves me with only the top oven which is really unreliable. Seems to be lots of major stuff needing fixing/replacing atm and we can't really afford it so getting quite tough. We found out last night that DH's grandfather is gravely ill in a hospice as well, and not expected to last much longer. DH might be heading off up there soon to see him, but we're just waiting to see how he is today. Does anyone know how bad the snow is in West Sussex? They live in Littlehampton, so we've been assuming the coast won't be too bad.

Sorry for whinge, feeling a bit beleaguered atm.

egopostulosomnus · 09/12/2010 08:17

Hormonal, sorry to hear your children are sick. Let's hope you stay healthy

I spoke to hv yesterday and as well as honey, avoid nuts and seeds and limit salt and sugar. Use full fat products and a drink of water (from tap is fine) at every meal

We finally have weight gain, yippee! Now 15lb6oz at 26 weeks.

egopostulosomnus · 09/12/2010 08:17

pigleychez · 09/12/2010 08:28

Just a quicky before we head off for our train trip to see Santa. DD1 is soooo excited bless her!

Heffa- Sorry to hear that :(. We are in West Sussex, about 45 mins from Littlehampton.
Theres hardly any snow left here now. Bit slushy and icy on the smaller roads but all th main roads are fine now.

Ego- Blimey a HV that speaks sense! Grin Totally agree with that about the weaning.
Grin on the weight gain too!

Hormonal- Good to hear from you. Hope the kids are all better soon. :(

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 09/12/2010 08:32

Pigley - thanks for that, good to know snow won't be an issue.

Ego - wow, a sensible HV! I'd forgotten about nuts and seeds. Congrats on weight gain, that's great. Must be such a relief.

mollycuddles · 09/12/2010 16:53

Hi all - quick post while I'm expressing (no patients to phone!!!) before our work xmas dinner. Really can't be bothered with it. Had my hair cut and coloured on Tuesday for the event and it's purple rather than copper red. Not happy!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts re my blardy nipple. It's much better - thanks. I think it keeps flaring up because of underlying eczema. Grrr.

Haven't seen my HV in ages but she seems sensible enough. The one who covers in her absence is clueless though. Doubt even the sensible one here has heard of BLW. Haven't had Molls weighed in ages but using our bathroom scales she's at least 19 lbs. The wee heifer :o

Hope the train ride goes well pigley

Hope the kids get better hormonal - my big dcs have both been off school in the past 2 weeks.

Yippee re weight gain ego - one problem solved - now some sleep would be good. I'd like some too while we're at it!

Glad the weaning is going well wltk - Molls loves pasta.

Hope the thaw is coming - love to all. x

wouldliketoknow · 09/12/2010 18:20

hi all

all well here, well, except lo bit his tongue, without any teeth, and has a tiny graze?, so he is on milk only for a few days, he seems to find pasta rather interesting, moves it around his mouth a lot,...
hv much more reasonable after i gave her the bulloking told her off last time...

think cow's milk is to be avoided as well until the year.
heffa we're betwen brighton and eastbourne, no snow here and even the trains are back to normal.
it is so enfuriating when everything seems to go wrong at once, we had a couple of weeks like that but everything is back to normal now.
well, washing machine won't work and all lights flashing... but engineer is coming on saturday, so not too bad, thank goodness i have enought clean cloths for oscar, not quite for us but... i don't mind too much taking some to a launderette
pigley Smile at ds1 being sooo excited, glad you had fun.
hormonal hopefully all children will be ok.

hollyoaks · 11/12/2010 11:52

Morning all, sorry I've been so crap at keeping up, I've skimmed the last few pages. Blush I do read everything on fb though.

Lucee - congrats on new man, dtd and pgce, shout if you would like any help with that :)

Teeth - Grace has two at the bottom and boy do they hurt when she gets your finger. :o

I'm sure some of you have read on fb about our ordeal last week. All 4 of us had d&v for the best part of the previous two weeks but Grace got particularly bad on Saturday teatime. By Sunday teatime she was no better, extremely lethargic, sunken eyes and fontenelle (sp?) so we took her to the out of hours dr. They were running half an hour late so I was majorly stressed in the waiting room, it looked like she was about to die in my arms :(. Anyway, we get into gp's room and Grace started to vomit blood so gp rang for a 999 ambulance and put a canular in her foot there and then. I started crying and asked her if I should start panicking but she was great and calmed me down. So blue-lighted to the hospital where she had her surgery where she was admitted to a&e. They pushed fluids in and then set up a drip but they were mentioning meningitis and intensive care. Luckily, literally within half an hour of the fluids she started to cry for a bottle and immediately looked better :). She took two 3.5 oz bottles in a&e and then another 6 over the next day on the ward. She was unbelievably discharged the following afternoon and has been great ever since. :o

Work - I barely feel like I've been back with 4 snow days and 2 sick days with Grace. I'm only in Mon and Wed next week and then we have christmas activities on Fri. I'm sure I feel it after the holidays when we have reports to write and lots of parent's evenings.

Molly - how are you coping with work?

TomlinTowers · 11/12/2010 23:22

Wow hollyoaks, poor Grace and poor you! Thank goodness you took her to the OOH GP when you did. So glad everything is better now.

Ego - congrats on the weight gain!

Nothing new here - it has taken me TWO DAYS to finish my online Tesco order for Christmas. I have seemingly ended up cooking for everyone this year - Xmas Eve/Xmas Day/Boxing Day for my parents, 28th for DH's family (5 extra adults), and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day for close friends. Will be demanding a year off next year, it's costing a fortune!

DancingThroughLife · 11/12/2010 23:41

Hollyoaks, what an ordeal! So happy everything is starting to get back to normal.

Tomlin, I don't envy you at all. We're doing our usual trip round all the houses, so luckily we don't need to get much in foodwise. We might have friends round for new year. I fancy something really retro night in, with Trivial Pursuit etc Blush

Darcey did a little commando crawl on Thursday. She definitely wants to be off. I miss my tiny baby who slept all day and stayed where you left her Sad but I'm so proud of her at the same time.

We've decided we want another baby. We're not going to start trying until the spring, but (as much as you can plan these things) we like the idea of it being on the way by DH's 40th birthday in August. Maybe by next Xmas we'll have another? It's a good job we don't want it yet though, as I still haven't had a period. Probably to do with breastfeeding, but I thought they're supposed to come back once there's regularly 6 hours between feeds (ie overnight). Any thoughts?

Hope everyone is doing ok, and ready for Christmas Xmas Smile

mollycuddles · 11/12/2010 23:44

Oh hollyoaks what a nightmare for you. Glad all was sorted quickly though. Wee babies get so sick, so quickly but often do perk up remarkably quickly to. How annoying that the OOH gp was delayed - bet they were dealing with countless minor illnesses as usual. Hate that this meant you had such a scary wait. Work is ok really - cope when I'm there but feel so sad at the thought of it. Have a good rota over Christmas so that's good but start back at OOH in January. Not sure how that'll work out. I assumed molly would have cut down on her milk feeds by then so wouldn't have to express but no sign so might need them to make adjustments. Can't be out in the car doing visits for 6 hours as need to express at least every 3. Difficult conversation pending.

heffa pretty sure the chocolate theft was the labrador. Haven't sifted her poo for sparkling bits from the wrapping but convinced by dh and dcs pleas of innocence.

Out with friends last night for the first time. Had to leave before dessert as molls not at all happy. Ds and dd1 were trying to distract her and dd1 kept saying I deserved a break. My dm and df were babysitting. I was happy enough as I didn't want to go anyway. Dh stayed out to 2 and has had a hangover all day. He keeps saying he feels ok when he doesn't which annoys me more than him being hungover in the first place. He can be a right blooming martyr when he feels bad.

Have booked my slot for the Xmas tesco delivery but not organised yet. We were entertaining last year but this years it's just the 5 of us on the day. Although my brother and dp are coming on Xmas eve and dm,df, other db, dsil and dnephew and dniece are coming on boxing day. I'm just glad we're going nowhere tbh. I'm such a home bird these days.

egopostulosomnus · 12/12/2010 08:11

hollyoaks, so glad to hear that things are getting better now
tt you look like you are going to be soo busy over christmas, try to enjoy it and dont stress over the little things.
dancing, yay! thats really exciting news. not having a period doesnt mean it wont happen, you could ovulate and get pregnant on that very first cycle! i had 2 pregnancies during breastfeeding.
im a bit Hmm about the 6 hours though, we are feeding every 2 bloomin hours still and ive had 3 periods already. would happily have another baby, twins???? just for a change, oh and at least would need to be a boy. lol if only orders could be placed hey!
molly, i have still not been out at all without baby, and im not bothered about it, but i do feel a bit pressured by rl friends and society in general to 'get my life back' and to not make a rod for my own back, although i never left my other babies either and they were never clingy, in fact quite the opposite.
as for the expressing, as has recently been shown on the news, companies are now legally obliged to make it easier for breastfeeding mothers so you do at least have that on your side
this week we have hit 6 months, gained weight, learned to sit up AND rolled over! shocked by so many milestones being hit in one week.

pigleychez · 12/12/2010 22:27

WLTK- Hope the washing machine gets fixed soon.

Hollyoaks- I can imagine how scary that all was for you! Shock So glad shes ok now though.:)

TT- Sounds like a busy xmas dinner for you. Hope the planning doesn't get too stressful.

Dancing- Woohoo on the crawling and Wow on the decison!
My intial reaction was No way, already,oh my god (shock). But when I actually stopped and thought about it, it was probably about this stage with DD1 that we decided that we wanted another reasonably close together. We conceived Lucy just after DD1 turned 1. Its lovely having them so close in age. Hard work at times but worth it :)

Ego- Yay on all the milestones. Ive heard before about babies temporaily regressing on one thing when they are mastering something else. Thier little brains cant cope with all the info at once and kind of shut off one bit. May explain the poor sleep at the mo.

Well DD1 loved the steam train and was a great day out. :)

Today we have spent seeing my Uncle and his DP. They arent local so we usually only see them once or twice a year. Was so nice to see them and catch up. DD1 was only tiny when they last saw her and they got to meet Lucy for the first time. My uncles long term DP is lovely and battling cancer bless her.:(
She was so nice to me and made a big point of telling me what a fab job I was doing with the girls. It was so nice to hear and a real confidence boost. Especially with the ongoing issue of my sister being the fav with my mum and how my parenting choices are always questioned.

Been busy this weekend doing Lucy's latest lot of Arty shots. I do them every 3mths for the first year and then every yr after that. Its no nice to look back and see how much they have grown.
Lucy is such a smiler that shes a pleasure to photograph :)

In the past few weeks you can see how much Lucy's hair has thickened and turned darker. She is such a mini daddy and definately has his appetite! Today she has hardly had any milk at all (refused it) but eaten an immense amount of food. Its totally shocked us the little piggy! :)

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 13/12/2010 07:54

Hollyoaks - :( sounds horrible, so so glad everything's OK. Must have been terrifying.

Tomlin - sounds like a very busy Christmas!

DancingThroughLife - yay for the TTC at some point. I'm still BFing but have only had one period. No sign of another so far. DS has hardly ever gone 6 hours without milk as well, so not sure about that one Hmm

Ego - yay for so many milestones, exciting week :)

Pigley - sorry to hear about your uncle's DP. Glad you had a good weekend.

DH went to see his grandfather who's still poorly. He's very glad he went and saw him one last time, but no idea how long it will take.

My DM took me and the kids to the local RHS garden to see Santa arrive in a horse and cart. Very sweet, then a lovely grotto and free present. DD was very pleased, and actually spoke to Santa this time round. DS was more interested in growling at a tractor.

pamelat · 13/12/2010 13:39

Hello all, sorry for lack o fposts

Hollyoaks how awful for you all, glad all is now ok

Dancing Smile good luck with it all. We have decided we cant do this again but then reading your post made me almost cry so who knows ....... Smile

Alex is 7 months old today, his sleep is horrendous. Up 4 times last night, once for 2 hours. Am doing day time Gina Ford style now (never any crying) but feed and sleep times and no improvemet, am feeling quite deserate. Causing problems now, including my ability to function with DD Sad hence saying never again.

He doesnt really do very well with solids either, despite being 98% percentile. He wants milk and petit filous, seems to choke on much else other than purees. My DD could eat toast by this stage. Am sure the food is part of his awful awful sleeping.

pamelat · 13/12/2010 13:41

Oh also Alex has a reliance on now sleeping with us (or more frequently one of us, taken in turns) after about 11pm Sad its hard work.

itshappenedagain · 14/12/2010 10:00

hello all! apologies for the alck of posting, i do have a quick read but never seem to get chance to post.

sleep my thoughts are with all those with frequently waking babies...we went through a spell of that. Florence still wakes a couple of time s a night, but we co-sleep so it usually isnt for long.

weaning we aseem o have good eaters in our group...Florence will eat anythig that you give her, but if i haear that i can stop breastfeeding now one more time i may pop. my baby my choice am i asking for your opinion or expecting you to get up and feed her in the night no! sorry rant over!

things are plodding along at the minute, im still looking for work. have ahad trouble with Ds father he has breeched the restraining order and have had to start legal proceedings againist him again. DDs dad is still refusng to see her again after asking if he could see her a couple of months ago Xmas Hmm Xmas Angry

other than that DD is crawling and standing herself up so now have safetygate up again and have banned lego in the lounge.

hope all is well have to go as she is awake and full of a cold so not a hppy bunny!

Carikube · 14/12/2010 11:51

Hollyoaks glad that everything is ok now but that must have been such a scare.

itshappenedagain sorry to hear that you are having problems with DS' father and what a shame DD's father doesn't want to be involved - his loss!

dancing I was already pg with DD2 by the time DD1 was this age so it feels weird that I'm not pg now iyswim Blush. Still no periods here (and DD2 has been going 12 hours between feeds at night since about 8 weeks). As we have now started weaning and she seems to be loving it, I'm thinking that they might start again some time soon as although she is still having as many bf as before, I don't think she's having as much. I'd quite like to start having serious discussions about DC3 by the middle of next year Blush.

I was out for lunch with colleagues yesterday and I left DD2 with the PA and the receptionist whilst I went (DD1 was in nursery). She was an absolute star and they said they couldn't believe how smiley she was and happy to be left with people she doesn't really know. News like that definitely doesn't help with the broodiness Grin.

Right, off to make lunch - let's see how much these two gannets can get through today!
