That's great Debi When we started DD1 without nappies on a night she woke us up at stupid o clock asking for a wee. If she had a nappy on we got a lie-in

Hope you start to feel better soon bec I hate being sick.

Robyn can count up to 10 by hwerself and will copy you to 20.

Mu Auntys funeral went well. It was a lovely service and there was loads of people there. Shed a few tears then had afew laughs with my cousins as we remembered all the good things she had done. Lucy was a hit and loads of people came over for a cuddle

becaroo · 10/09/2010 08:55

Am most impressed at all these counting children!!! Smile toby knows two - because it means he gets more than one biscuit!!!

Feeling a bit better....it may have been food poisoning because as of yet neither dh or dc have had it. Has really wiped me out though....with any luck I'll have lost half a stone! Grin

debs I hate it too. Irony was I was downstairs on the sofa desperately trying not to retch too loudly so I didnt wake dh or dc up!!! Sad

ILTMIMI May I ask a TMI question?? when did you - ahem - go again after your diahorrea??? Its been a week and I havent been again yet!! then again, I havent been eating much......

Just catching upand bookmarking

Glad I read the thread after lunch with all the sickness and poo talk Grin

Had a lovely holiday in Wales, M is such a water baby although was a bit wary of the sea at first.

Work's suspiciouslt=y quiet which probably means next wee aill be hell, so I thought I'd catch up here.

Getting v excited about M's birthday, we're having a party here at home. M has been to a few partied over the summer nd loves singing happy birthday, so when we mention her party she sings it to herself Grin She can count to 10 and sometimes more, but doesn't have the 1-1 correspondance of knowing what it means yet. I think that comes nearer 3.

DD1 back at school and seems to have settled in although she's shattered.

Glad to hear your Auntie's funeral went well debs it's good to recall all the memories

becaroo I had gastro once and felt weird for a while afterwards, worse than just a 24 hour bug. But, yes, the weight loss side effects are handy!

ninja have you already picked your cat?

I think DD is teething, so it must be her second molars coming through. Lots of poo, dribbling, finger chewing and grizzling. Mind you, once they're through they we will have officially finished teething in this house for ever

DebiTheScot · 10/09/2010 23:19

Sorry to break it to you meglet but there's another set of molars to come for them both. At about 5 or 6 I think.

Meglet · 10/09/2010 23:29

I don't think thats quite as bad though is it Confused.

We have a giant fire in town today. Even though we're not that close I've having a tizz about going to bed in case something dreadful happens and things start exploding. I can see the glow in the sky and there's ash in the garden. I hope the firefighters are ok.

lollyheart · 11/09/2010 00:27

Hello all

My dd who is 5 is getting her molars, 1 is through and you can see the others are just about to break, i dont think she can feel them coming.

Ds2 is doing this scary thing at the moment, when he crys he holds his breath, he goes blue and floppy, its so scary to watch but common in this age group so ive been told,

My house stinks of smoke and the fire is more or less on the other side of town.

ninja · 11/09/2010 08:55

Wow - lollyheart and Meglet is it the same fire?

Yes, the 5 yr Molars are no big deal.

Yes, chsoen cat, it's a young (just less than a year) black female. They'd had a run on cats the day we went and there were only 2 to choose from but DD1 fell in love with her and she seemed great with the kids. Might be getting an older fluffy tortoiseshell as well Grin

We have an 8 year old cat who adopted us, but he's a bit of a loner and will lash out at the kids if they bother him, so we wanted a cat they could cuddle and grow up with.

It's very exciting

becaroo · 11/09/2010 09:00

ooohhhh, get me!!!! Fame at last!!!!!! I'm not going to let it go to my head though, honest! Grin

Tom has woken up with his first wobbly tooth! We are all very excited and releived as I was getting a bit worried as he is 7 and my dh had to have some of his baby teeth removed when he was 14/15.

Feeling a bit better....need to go back the the chiropractor though...my back is buggered Sad

Good luck with the new cat ninja whats its name??

FannyPriceless · 11/09/2010 10:05

Yay for bec's newfound fame. How is the career as a MN celeb going? Have you got an agent yet?Wink

meglet I used to live in Australia and ashes in the garden was a very scary thing. We were living in the middle of this fire. I hope it's all OK for you now.

DD's birthday on Thursday was just brilliant. She cannot now be separated from the new Upsy Daisy doll. But her favourite present of all was a book of tractors.Grin We went to a big play barn as a birthday treat ( carrie the one we have discussed on the ring road - it's amazing and we must go together) and still the most exciting thing in amongst the fab outdoor play area was spotting in the next field a 'blue tractor!!'. Honestly, the girl is obsessed.Grin

The really big birthday treat is tomorrow when she will have her first pony ride. We've been to buy her 'horsie hat' and tomorrow we go to see one of my friends whose son has two little lead rein ponies. I'm not sure who is more excited, me or her.Blush

Meglet · 11/09/2010 11:33

FP that's exactly what I started worrying about, all the fires in Oz cross roads and wipe out houses, and they aren't as densely packed as ours. Everything seems ok this morning, still smells of smoke outside and I have to pick up the debris from the garden Confused and pop it on the compost heap.

Glad your DD had a good birthday. The pony ride sound like it will be great fun.

DD has just gone out with my mum to a National Trust place. DS is a bit poorly so we shall just potter about at home.

Debs75 · 12/09/2010 07:26

Fanny where do you buy a 'horsie hat' for such a small head? Robyn is desperate to get on a pony. She even 'rides' the settee arms and shouts 'yah' Too much Toy Story I'm afraid.

Our SW visit went better then expected. They are ordering us a door for DS's room and organising all the measuring and fitting so all we have to do is be in whebn they turn up. Pretty easy as we don't go out much. I need too many daytime naps. We're getting on with the other conditions so in a fortnight when they come back everything should be ok and they will get off our backs for a bit.

Best friend goes back to work next week and DP has 2 interviews lined up so I am going to have to cope all on my own all day. I barely get dressed as it is. On the brightside I have all of Robyn's presents bought

becaroo · 12/09/2010 08:18

Thats good news debs Hopefully after all this they will leave you alone for a bit x

Dc are at a fancy dress party today - toby as a fireman and tom as a pirate Smile

meg hope ds is feeling better

Lovely day here, must get off MN and start doing something Grin

Just passing through...

I keep getting compliments that I'm slim, which is nice, but I know its stress induced, sure I'll pile on the pounds once I actually have a kitchen to cook in!
Kitchen due to arrive this wednesday, the stress is that the other little bits like the window trim and lino in the utility haven't been done, I want it all sorted and finished, I'm having a sense of humour failure over it at the moment!

I'm sure I'm not pg this month, feel far too PMTish. Maybe next month when the extension is finished and I relax a bit...?

Loved watching strictly last night, can't wait the three weeks for the series proper to start.

CappuccinoCarrie · 12/09/2010 16:56

Just put some kitchen photos on my profile, one of the old kitchen we had from we moved in last November, til this June. Then there's the temporary one we've currently got. Can't wait to be able to put the final pics up!

debs75 Finding the hat wasn't easy, and DD is small for her age too. I went to Rideaway and there were only two hats of the highest safety which were small enough, and even then it was marginal. One of them was too wide for her head so that left one hat - Charles and Owen.

It was totally worth it though!Grin See the pic on my profile.

carrie Can I be nervous about meeting up with the newer, slimmer you while I'm in post-preg podgy land?Blush

Debs75 · 13/09/2010 12:20

fanny that is so sweet.
The stable DD1 goes to said she can have a half hour walk around the yard when she is 2 but she needs a leader then an adult either side of her so with Lucy to watch as well we will have to organise friends to help.
It's that or wait till we go to Centreparcs next April where she can go on a woodland ride.(I can too so can't wait for that)

FannyPriceless · 13/09/2010 13:09

debs Our local stable won't let them on a pony until age 4 (BHS). Luckily my friend has this totally safe and trusted tiny lead rein pony.Smile

I agree you need leaders and holders. We did it very carefully using a cub saddle, and I held her the whole time. I think half an hour might be too ambitious for this age. Apparently many children scream to be taken off straight away. We did about 10 mins and my friend said it was the most successful first ride she's seen. We mostly did patting and brushing which was lovely, and I thought if she felt happy just sitting on him that would be enough for the first time.

I would personally be pretty nervous about a 2 year old on a woodland ride. But maybe I'm over cautious? We took all these precautions for the riding, then afterwards DD tripped over in my friend's garden and hit her head on the path, poor thing. The irony was not lost on us.Confused

CappuccinoCarrie · 13/09/2010 13:50

DD went on a pony ride age 2 and a bit last summer, at a farm, just up and down a bit of lawn, she loved it! Wasn't hard core proper horse riding though!

ninja · 13/09/2010 16:18

wow Fanny your DD looks so confident and grown up on the pony

OP posts:
becaroo · 13/09/2010 16:46

Oh how lovely Smile

ds1 (7) had a lesson at center parcs in the summer and would like to start but I am worried about the expense - he already has swimming lessons, karate lessons and goes to beavers which totals about £90 per month as it is!

He amy also be starting cricket soon so dont feel we can do much more Sad

My uncle (who has been in hospital for 6 weeks) died yesterday. He was 89 and in pain so I am trying to be positive about it...he was only ill for the last 3 months of his life and up to May this year was completely self reliant, living alone and was compos mentis til the end. I will miss him. Its his funeral on friday which has totally thrown me as my PIL are going to the funeral too and my parents are away but a CM friend of mine (she recently registered) has sais she will have the boys for me for 3 hours.

Thing is, she is refusing payment. This makes me really uncomfortable as it is her living and its such short notice and she has never had either of them before. I posted on the CM thread about what to do and they were a bit sniffy and basically said I should be graetful and leave it be.

Of course, I am very grateful, but now dont know what to do.

Do I leave some money in an envelope when I leave? How much? A gift of some sort?? I think she doesnt want to charge me because its a funeral IYSWIM?

sigh......those of you who use CM...help!!!!

FannyPriceless · 13/09/2010 17:32

Right, so I think I am being a bit too cautious about the riding!Grin I guess I'm sensitive about being accused of pushing a very young child into riding if others think it's not safe. I'm terrified I'll become one of those pushy pony club mummies. (But probably will.Hmm)

bec Sorry about your uncle. I interpret your friend's offer as that of a friend rather than a CM iyswim. If she said no payment, respect that and get her a generous gift.

We actually had the reverse with our CM at the weekend. Her one year old was having breathing problems and they needed someone to drive them to the hospital as the dad was away for work. So DH took them and was embarrassed (but chuffed) when they gave him a bottle of his favourite scotch and some chocolates as a thank you. A good CM is like part of the family, and that's certainly how we treat each other.
