Not my day today. Baaad night last night from ds2, and he's been very unsettled and screamy today too. The codeine didn't touch my pain, but it had gone by about 3am, only to return after lunch today and stay ever since. My helper offered to put some washing on that I said I'd brought down in the basket, but I've just discovered that she washed all my clean fluffy nappies that were in the moses basket instead, and because she used washing powder with them I've now got to wash them all and then dry them all again, as well as do the washing that needed doing originally. Now I discover that I've lost my hospital prescription for my ear drops, and I only have 2 drops left, so desperately need to fill it tomorrow. It was in my bag when we went to Harefield on Tues, and I've not been anywhere since, so can only imagine that one of the kids has pulled it out and trashed it (I found two of their balls in there instead) :(.

StarExpat · 21/08/2010 07:18

Shock Shock Shock
My friend in california flat out refused a c section during her birth. Horrifying to think that this happened to someone else. Scary and appalling! Angry

Have packed entire house into 2 small suitcases. DHs absolute insistence we could go away for 2 weeks with the same 2 cases we took on our honeymoon 8 years ago???? Hmm
anyway, I couldn't even fit in a flannel EACH for the kids - they were all going to have to share Shock.
So he's agreed to one extra bag to check in and is now in a complete huff cos it's mysteriously full Grin.
Then he gets 6 library books, approaches the cases, and can't understand why I laugh in his face!!!
Roll on the sunshine!

StarExpat · 21/08/2010 19:14

Hmm, while a woman should have full rights over her own body and I am very pro choice, that's a tough call that a foetus is unprotected from abuse. I'm not talking about choosing birth practice or disagreeign with doctors or refusing a c-section because this is not abuse.

50ftQueenie · 22/08/2010 00:13

I am with Ronshar. I didn't read the whole article as I am tired, but I will go back to it.

This is the sort of thing (this article) That makes me not want to admit That im from there. More embarrassing and horrifying than even George Bush! Angry

I've forwarded this to friends with Babies in America and they are all Shock and Angry , too. Only one had heard the story already.

coconutfeet · 22/08/2010 08:29

Bloody appalling! This is what can happen if women's bodies are just seen as baby-vessels.

Pepper - have a great holiday. Where are you off to?

I hope things are improving in the CSWS household.

We went to a National Trust property yesterday to try and get our money's-worth from our membership that dp keeps forgetting to cancel. It also had a working farm with animals that you can see being fed, cows milked etc and they get the rabbits out for the children to stroke. Really nice day out. (Wimpole Hall near Cambridge if anyone's ever in the area.)

True pistachio. I didn't see it that way, tbh. I just thought of the extremes like your first example of the heroin user. I wish that wasn't allowed :( but not allowing a pg woman to have a few glasses of wine is just ridiculous... As is the stupid reason the baby in that article was taken. That makes me sick.

I must have lead a really sheltered life in the US. I haven't ever seen a bar refuse to serve a pg woman.... I've been at restaurants with pg women who ordered wine. I would be so Angry if some waiter thought s/he had a say over whether or not to have some wine while pg. That is just out of line (unless the woman is passed out drunk in there daily.... But there we go again with where to draw the line... Confused

Just saying a quick hello. No time/energy to read the article or join the debate. Off to bed in a tick.

Honeymoonmummy · 23/08/2010 12:24

Hi all, remember me??? Sorry, been really busy recently. Hope you're all well. I can't believe how quickly Poppy seems to be growing up! She's had her first "major" accident, she was twirling in the kitchen and lost her balance and knocked side of her face on a shelf on the way down, she has a big old shiner today! No need for a trip to A&E or anything so not that bad (touch wood!). I went to get her this morning and forgot about it and it broke my heart to see her with a black eye!

We're also kind of potty training her. I bought a potty from Amazon just thinking she could play with it for now. She got it out of the box, said "potty" in delight (presumably seen in nursery) and within 5 minutes did her first wee! She remained dry all that evening and did 3 wees! We've not been religious with it since, but she is using it pretty regularly and I bought her some "big girl knickers" yesterday.

I'm also contemplating getting her a bed. I'm tempted just to put two single mattresses on top of each other rather than forking out on a bed that she'll probably wet countless times and outgrow in a few years - what are you all doing?

Honeymoonmummy · 23/08/2010 12:25

Oh and has anyone got advice for what to do when we're potty training in earnest and out and about when she needs to go? Travel potty or fold open toilet seat? Also, do you need one of those fancy toilet seats with the handles?

HMM Clever Poopy. She is way ahead of the stubborn boy in this house!
I would ditch the nappies now. Cold turkey is the best way with a child who is happily using a potty. Make a big fuss of the big girl pants and only use a nappy at bed time to start with and then see how wet they are in the morning. If quite dry then she is probably ready to go nappy less at night too.
You can get special plastic backed mattress protctors. I have never had a ruined mattress yet!

Pistachio I have just finished reading a book set in Scotland. About the war with King Edward and William Wallace. It was brilliant. It mentions Stirling castle a fair bit too. Sounds very cool.

50ftQueenie · 23/08/2010 17:58

Hi Hmm.... DS was nearly three by the time he potty trained so he just used the toilets, with help of course. M is nowhere near ready. She is a potty training thicky. DS insisted on using nappies at night until he was 3.5, despite being dry day and night 7 months earlier.

M has started with the 'why's. Gah! DS didn't start that until he was 2.5!

Ronshar dh wants to know the name of your book (he's a medieval historian and very intrigued...). We should train Q as he's showing loads of readiness signs but dh won't waste a day or more at home Hmm

ronshar · 23/08/2010 21:21

Star it isnt anything highbrow by a long way. It was a the final book in a trilogy by Robyn Young. She is a local author and I stumbled upon her books a few years ago. The first is Brethren, Crusade and then Requiem. The books are a semi true series about a young man who becomes a Knight Templar. It is the third one which is about Scotland but with lots about France. I have loved reading them so if your DH can recommend some others which are not too dry and degree study level I would be very happy.

Enough of my reading recomendationsGrin

W has decided he wants to be a boxer! Not too sure the girls are enjoying the double fist punch to the back/bum/face/arm/leg what ever he gets to firstHmm He is turning into a right monster!

Honeymoonmummy · 23/08/2010 21:25

Pistachio, we may well do that too!

Ooh Ronshar really? Cold turkey? [wibble] I'll have a word with DH, it's he who looks after her after all. TBH when we're in the house she spends most of the day with nothing on her bottom half because she takes nappies off within 5 mins for a "wee wee" which sometimes exists and sometimes not and she won't keep her knickers on for much longer.

God 50ft, I didn't think the "why's" started for ages yet!!
