Helloooo( calls out nervously incase she's been forgotten!!)

I havent dropped by in ages.... but i do have a very good excuse..DH was transfered abroad (US) at the start of last month and its been a tough few weeks here with 3dc's and a brand new home/city/culture to get use to.

We are here for a minimum of a year maybe two.

Other than that all is going well. Elyssa is 5 months now and the easiest little baby ever after the terrible 1st two months.
Havent started weaning her at all yet was hoping to wait aslong as possible because of her kidney problem.
She needs a review scan this month after her little Op in september and fingers crossed everything is working ok.

Filly seen your thread in AIBU and YADNBU.
your poor ds.

Luckily this time i havent felt any twinges of PND.
I have suffered in the past from PND and bouts of depression..so at the moment im feeling good and im proud of myself for not cracking under all the stress of moving home and countries over the past month.
But I did have some days were I felt "why am I doing this i have 3dc's and one is only a baby I must be mad!"

woofie · 06/12/2010 10:03

Hello mrsD- welcome back and well done on your move! Sounds like you've coped brilliantly. We've bought, renovated and moved into a new house since Laurie's birth, which has been stressful enough, but at least didn't involve crossing the Atlantic! Hope you and the dcs are settling in well.

filly- I've just read your AIBU thread and am completely Shock The poor woman clearly has some MH issues, but what an awful position to put your ds in. It definitely sounds like you're well rid. I hope ds is ok.

Weaning's going really well now, and Laurie is yet to turn up his nose at anything. He sampled his first Granny's Sunday Roast yesterday, showing that he's following in his brothers' footsteps when it comes to food appreciation! Digestion/ constipation seems to have settled, and he's gone from 3+ wakings at night, to one feed only at 2a.m. on the dot fr the last 4 nights. It feels like there is light at the es of the tunnel at last, but I'm probably jinxing myself and his sleep will go to pot again next week. Ds1 was exactly the same though- ie needed a full belly to sleep.

Laurie has a settling in session at nursery on thursday Sad- I can't believe how quickly it's come round. I'd definitely take a year off by preference, but my PhD funding is only available for a finite period of time, and thesis is linked to my research job, so I have little choice but to crack on. At least it's only 2days a week initially.

alwayshopeful and others- I agree that distinguishing chronic sleep deprivation from full-blown PND is really hard. Having had PND after ds1's birth, thebad days this time round have been nothing like as bad, so easy to put down to lack of sleep.

MrsAlwaysRight · 06/12/2010 10:58

Filly sounds like you have an awful lot on your plate at the mo. Hope things start to improve soon.

MrsD Welcome back Smile

Quick update from us:

Alice has 2 teeth coming through at the bottom which have resulted in quite a few disturbed nights. I have no idea how the ladies with non sleeping babies have coped. I have rapidly turned into grumpy mummy!

I had a bizarre sleep deprived dream the other night that Alice suddenly started crawling and crawled under the sofa! Confused

She had her first taste of food at the weekend (thanks greensnail for answering all my BLW questions!) Ate some roasted carrot and sweet potato. Puked some of it up about an hour later but must have eaten a reasonable amount as there was some in her nappy the following day. However it resulted in some serious wind issues overnight!

My BLW recipe book has arrived today luckily as I am totally clueless about BLW as DD1 was a puree baby.

PogueMahone · 06/12/2010 20:29

Filly just read the thread about your nanny. Words fail me... Hope things start to look up.

MrsDmamee I am beyond excited that you have moved to the US. (I'm in Oklahoma myself, where are you?) Not only another mnetter but someone from my very own antenatal thread! If you need any advice, please give me a shout. (There's a US thread in living overseas too where you'll find lots of wise and knowledgeable expats.) I moved here when my youngest was almost 6mo too, and having DC was great for meeting people. I did have to become a bit of a 'joiner' for a stage though.

MrsDmamee · 07/12/2010 03:57

poguemahone Im in New Mexico.
Im hanging out with most of the other trailing spouses. There is over 200 or so families moving here over the next few months.

Finding baby stuff has been a challenge as not every store has a great selection. Even a simple thing like a steriliser, so far I only found one type in one store and it was a AVENT and I use NUK so Im still using the microwave steriliser I brought with me.

woofie · 07/12/2010 10:13

mrsD - my brother-in-law lives outside Albuquerque and works in Santa Fe. We''ve been out a few times, indeed we got married out there five years ago!- it's a wonderful place, I hope you enjoy it once you're settled. I'll ask him for baby shop recommendations!

Fillybuster · 07/12/2010 15:18

Aaarrgghhh!! I think Mia might Officially Be The Most Miserable Baby in the World (TM) today :( Full of cold and I suspect teething as well - she's been in bed for the past hour and literally will not stop screaming. Obviously I have tried everything going, and all interventions seem to work for about 30 secs, then she just starts screaming again. Makes me feel so :( :( :(

Ah well, guess I should just feel grateful that this isn't the usualy state of affairs, right?

She's so tired though, and I know if she doesn't sleep now she's going to be beyond miserable for the rest of the afternoon. And I have to drag both DDs to Tesco as we're out of critical items like milk and nappies....

Oh well, had better go and give cuddles....

whenwillisleepagain · 07/12/2010 16:30

Filly YANBU - what a nightmare, just read 1st bit of your thread

mampam nice to hear from you, sorry Tilly not 100%. Trying to remember if it was your GP or the HV who was giving you rubbish advice when Tilly was first born - meaning, can you trust GP's judgement in this matter?

Well I am also having a crap week. Alice has cough and cold and I was on phone to NHS direct by 8am about her up and down temp. All been going on since 2am Fri, though she was then better for weekend. They thought it was consistent with normal response to virus but she has lost all interest in weaning, not that she was showing much anyway, and as for sleep, I am so tired that my mind has gone and I feel really weepy. Quite when BLW will progress or I will get time to implement The No Cry Sleep Solution, which I have been reading in amongst giving the calpol, I don't know. But anyway, neither are options while she is poorly.

Worst of all, 89 yr old dad admitted to hospital yesterday. Long complicated background which will spare you, but I am feeling I have let my parents down by having a second baby when they most need me and I can't be everwhere at once. Bonkers I know. I wonder if I've been in denial about how difficult things have been for them recently. Anyway on a positive note, he is finally under a consultant for elderly medicine, which is what we have been wanting to happen for ages, rather than different doctors addressing specific problems but no one looking at whole picture.

oh dear - the woes of winter colds and miserable weather.
WWISA sorry to hear about your dad. You shouldn't feel guilty though for bringing a new baby into this world and I'm sure your parents feel the same way too. Good news re. the specialist consultant.

The twins are both ill at the moment. Have had 4 really bad nights, with barking coughs and very high temps. Suspected croup. Took to doc's yesterday and both prescribed antibiotics as Rafferty in particular struggling to breath. Was a bit scary tbh. He seems a bit perkier today, but yesterday they were both just very sleepy and listless. Hoping they turn a corner tonight.

AlwaysHopeful · 08/12/2010 13:05

Yikes Filly, sounds like Nanny was a bit of a loon to say the least. Hope your whole family is feeling better for it all being over.

Love and hugs to everyone with sickly children.

George is starting to take more food from the spoon now, but only if it's fruit or yogurt...

I had all my hair cut off last week and have booked myself in for a massage this evening, so am feeling a little better for taking a bit more care of myself. It's my work's Christmas party on Friday and I tried my "old faithful" black dress on, only to find I still look 4 months pregnant! My belly is way-way-way bigger than my boobs! I must get doing some excercise soon.

MrsD New Mexico? Well we're practically neighbours! (It's a biiiiiig country.) Target or Babies R Us may be your best bet for baby stuff over here. And it must be nice to have a ready-made bunch of fellow newcomers to hang out with. Hope you enjoy NM :)

I hope all the winter colds are short-lived. WWISA that's rough news about your dad. It must be lovely for your parents and the rest of your family to have a new baby in the family to focus on. And you shouldn't feel guilty at all.

dinosaurinmybelly · 13/12/2010 21:05

pogue and MrsD I too am in the US at the moment,in fact had 2 of my babies here so I've been through the search of finding equivalent baby products here. Am so delighted to see Ella Organics hit the shelves here, but could do with finding an equivalent to Farleys Rusks.

So sorry to hear about your Dad WWISA. my thoughhts are with you and I totally agree that a new baby and indeed small children in general can bring a lot of joy at these otherwise sad times. Filly cannot believe your nanny situation. Well handled by you - I hope you get something sorted soon and you can all enjoy a nice Christmas knowing you have it all arranged for January. We have had sickness here too - DS1 had strep throat which I ignored thinking it was a bog standard cold. I feel so guilty as he had a horrible time for 2 days until the antibiotics kicked in.

So I am behind with Christmas card writing,Christmas tree decorating etc etc and better get a move on or it will be a very miserable Christmas in DIMBs house.

BraveGirl · 15/12/2010 20:09

Back at work here, and on cue J has gone back to good sleeping!!! Wooo Hoooo!!!

The key was last week, travelling to see Auntie J. We didn't have space to even erect the travel cot so took the pram cot for overnight sleeps (he's 0.4 centile, so small enough still!) and even though he is small, we opted to forego the sleeping bag for a return to the swaddle and hey presto - night feeds stop and night wakings down to just 5 mins or less, solved by insertion of a dummy. It has made the return to work bearable at least. Still, only 1 and a half days til we break up for Xmas!

Hope everyone else's sleeping sees a similar improvement soon!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/12/2010 22:47

sorry just adding to list again. House of sickness and chaos at the moment.

AlwaysHopeful · 16/12/2010 10:00

Lots of shot and coughing in our house too. Hope it clears up soon or all we will want from Santa is Calpol for the kids and lemsip for me!

MonkeyMargot · 16/12/2010 14:08

Oh dear - hoping those suffering from colds and flu get better soon.
Our boys are better now thank goodness. Off out tonight for some xmas drinks and again for dinner on Saturday with DH to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. So feeling quite festive and jolly today!

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/12/2010 14:39

Hello - am very behind, but got a few mins hopefully whilst J slleps in my arm and ds1 sleeps on sofa as he appears to now have whatever dd has been off school with all week - which is quite possibly swine flu.

nizzy - i reckon that if you don't go back now then you might never (as long as D earns enough that that could feasibly be an option). I feel so out of date with the software that we worked on that I probably wouldn't feel confident to sell myself in that type of role any more (though I know that after a month or two I would prob know it all better than the company's own consultants again). I still have the finance option to fall back on of course - would you be happy going back into that sort of line after a break?

Happy anniv for sat margot. It was my 10th last week.

wwisa - you absolutely haven't let your parents down. You have given them another grandchild to be proud of. :)

filly - hope things are calming down for you and that you are surviving ok without a barking mad nanny.

Hi all, sorry for those with poorly children. We were in CalpolWorld last week and it was no fun. Rather better than this week though. I'm afraid my dad went into a decline a few days ago, and when I saw him on Sunday I did momentarily wonder where things were going to end up. Went back to hospital to visit on Tues and Mum and I insisted on seeing a doctor as we were so worried about my dad. When pressed, they confirmed that we should 'expect the worst' and he was unconscious but peaceful by the time we had come out of talking to the doctors and died yesterday morning. I'm back home having been with my mum, but it's all been so quick and a bit of a shock. Alice has come everywhere with me and been so easy and accommodating, bless her. I am so glad he knew Alice, who was named after his mother, and yes, you're all absolutely correct when you say what pride and pleasure grandchildren can bring.

Barbeasty · 17/12/2010 08:18

WWISA I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope you and your mum are ok, and make it through christmas. It's difficult when something like this happens but even harder not to let it taint the time of year.

Ruth had a horrible throat & chest infection last week. She's better now, I had a runny nose for a day, MIL was ill for a day, DH has baby flu man flu!

Hope everyone else is well, and everybody is better by Christmas.

AlwaysHopeful · 17/12/2010 19:40

Oh WWISA I am so sorry about your father.

justbeme · 17/12/2010 19:53

So sorry for your sad news WWISA. Hope you can get through Xmas OK. :(

woofie · 18/12/2010 20:39

So sorry for your loss wwisa

BraveGirl · 19/12/2010 16:22

WWISA - that's awful just before Xmas - thinking of you.
