I'm only curious as I actually thought it sounded like one of the better conservative policies- it was plastered all over billboards but I've heard nothing of it since the election... anyone know??

Well it is still in the coalition agreement

programmeforgovernment.hmg.gov.uk/social-action/

So I assume it is still on the agenda but probably not an immediate priority.

What? Take a bunch of disaffected, bored, semi-illiterate drop outs, with anger management/drug/alcohol issues, and train them to kill?

Great idea!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 30/06/2010 22:38

Wasn't it going to just be voluntary.... no doubt if it costs money it will be put on hold for a while.

Butterpie · 30/06/2010 22:40

I don't think it is military service...

negligentmummy · 01/07/2010 08:09

it's community service not military service. and entirely optional...
it was to combat the disaffection and boredom and get them involved in something and give them some relevant experience wasn't it?
