I've been hearing this all day on the radio. I can't take the suspense any longer. They are going to affect the lives of 'every one of us'

I feel like a person wincing and clenching my teeth in anticipation of the big fuck-off needle the school nurse is wielding, and I'm next in the queue....

Come on then, what's it going to be?

How is Gordon Brown sleeping at night. ?
Bastard.

mumblechum · 07/06/2010 20:45

So what do we think SHOULD be cut then?

Well, they could cut the roads budget.
Highways agency projects always go massively over budget and htey are never pulled up about it.

I was on acourse the other week on project management and a bloke from highways agency said "£1 million is a rounding error to us".

I like opera and ballet and go for the £10 tickets with DD. It's great fun and really good value considering I get about 40 people on stage dancing their hearts out plus a full orchestra just for me!

katycarr · 07/06/2010 20:53

Cut public sector pay for those earning over 30K by at least 5%.

Cut tax credits for families earning over £50K

Child benefit stopped for couples earning over £60K ( if it would pay which I am not sure it would)

I am sure there must be quangos that can be cut.

Things like book start, 5 a day need to be more focused rather than a blanket approach.

I could go on.

moondog · 07/06/2010 20:56

Oh, whomoved! You look gorgeous!

I'm so glad you got a haircut, too, before you are made redundant and cannot afford luxuries like haircuts, because opera is just so crap, you know.

katycarr · 07/06/2010 20:58

I think that even if they don't means test child benefit people need to start taking some responsibility and start only claiming what they need or donate it to a charity.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2010 20:59

As a higher rate tax payer, I wasn't even aware I could get tax credits. So I wouldn't miss them. Ditto child benefit - it goes in their trust funds. Would rather the country was solvent when they get to 18 TBH.

Get rid of the bloody illusion of choices as well....ooh you get your operation quicker, well that's clearly bollocks, people are just referred slower or shuffled round the system more which wastes money.

Get rid of half of all MPs.

Increase tax relief to entrepreneurs (someone is going to have to create wealth in this country).

'So what should we cut then?'

Well judging by the amount of times opera had been seriously mentioned in this thread anyone would think we could solve our problems by just banning Verdi! Shame it's not that simple....

We should stop paying child benefit to people who work here but don't have their children in living in this country with them.

And we should stop winter fuel payments to OAPs living abroad. They live abroad because because it's warmer FFS!

katycarr · 07/06/2010 21:01

I don't want to see a reduction of MPs, I just want them to be honest and hard working.

moondog · 07/06/2010 21:01

Cappster, yes, yes, yes to all your suggestions.
These things are bizarre and indicative of the fact that some peopel are having to create work.
You can imagine them there al learnest in thier focus groups wondering what to spend this year's budget on.

Bloody ridiculous.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2010 21:02

I was actually made redundant two months ago Expat!

Can still afford the haircuts though

jillhastwoponies · 07/06/2010 21:02

In the words of DD...

"My scared".

Hides under duvet with teddies, bunnies and blankies

expatinscotland · 07/06/2010 21:02

Well, you know, whomoved, as long as you are not scrounging, it's all good.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2010 21:03

Gizajob!

No, am living off my husbands money!

mumblechum · 07/06/2010 21:04

Fellatio, what do you mean? Surely if people's children don't live with them here in the Uk they don't get CB for them??

expatinscotland · 07/06/2010 21:05

That's okay, then. That £150 married couples' allowance will certainly would go a long way to keep a person in the lap of luxury.

FellatioNelson · 07/06/2010 21:05

Agreed Cappster. It's all very nice and all that, but we just can't afford it. Never could, in fact. Which is why were are where we are now. The global recession/banking crisis just brought it all into focus much sooner.
