The man who covered up the facts in the killing of Jean Charles-de-Menezes. The man who shamelessly wormed himself into political debate supporting 90 day detention without charge. The man who dished out IT contracts like confetti to his mates and then covered up the report when discovered.

Apologies - the FT list here seems to be wrong, it lists Ian Blair as Labour when he is actually a crossbencher.

In a way that is worse because everyone who follows the news knows he is a Labourite through and through. It is quite dishonourable for Gordon Brown to list him as a crossbencher.

Even if he were independently minded, his shameful record of public service should automatically disqualify him. His time in charge of the Met was beset by scandal and corruption.
