So, what happens at by-elections? They will have to oppose each other? How?

taffetacat · 12/05/2010 14:46

policy - I am liking James D's points 3 and 4.

Hassled · 12/05/2010 14:47

I've been wondering about by-elections; it will all seem very odd.

Tolerance of dissent - a good question.

ImSoNotTelling · 12/05/2010 14:47

So is this the way it is, we get the two of them?

The Dep PM wouldn't normally come out and join in I don't think...

It's quite nice not having to have the camera zoomed in on the ham shine.

Going back to read what has been said so far.

ImSoNotTelling · 12/05/2010 14:48

Are they holding hands?

policywonk · 12/05/2010 14:48

yes Taffeta I thought it might cheer a few people up

BeenBeta · 12/05/2010 14:49

The lobby journalists dont really know what to do here. All they can ask is questions trying to find a division. They are going to have to change their mode of operation as well.

I feel so very ill at the thought of Teresa May as Home Sec. She is my Mum's MP and has long been vilified in our family.

theyoungvisiter · 12/05/2010 14:51

James Delingpole stole my "coalition of the unwilling" gag!

Tch. I made that joke 3 threads ago. [Grump]

policywonk · 12/05/2010 14:52

Bit previous I know but 'This will succeed through its success' shd be next thread title (assuming we're all still speaking by then)

Well chuffed that vince is in there with something that seems pretty critical.

Don't know much about teresa may but she sounds horrible.

(I don't work on the assumption that all tory mps are horrible so don't usually have much call to look into the details of how their horribleness manifests itself)

Hassled · 12/05/2010 14:53

Cameron's reply to the dissent question seemed to be that there wouldn't be any dissent. But yes, the media will keep looking for it - I have to say I'm fascinated by how this will play out.

Men in blue suits - why? Why do it?

jenny60 · 12/05/2010 14:57

Yes, it could have been worse for Labour, but it's still sickening to see them. It just isn't quite right, no matter what they say.

ImSoNotTelling · 12/05/2010 15:02

Gah! I do work on the assumption that they are all horrible.

I'm worn out. All of this upheaval has really taken in out of me.

gingercat12 · 12/05/2010 15:06

We are abroad and can only watch Sky ... News. Somebody will have to fill me in on what has really been going on. Apart from Sky News presenters stroking William Hague [vomit].

At least David Lamy managed to upset Kay Burley and making her shout by calling her a partisan.

I was crying my eyes out realising that DS will grow up under the Tories.

Oh Ginger, have you a link for Burley/Lammy?

electra · 12/05/2010 15:16

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling so miserable. I was listening to Ken Clarke talk on some news program and he sounds like such a pompous arse.

Is there any hope at all that the libdems will be able to 'detoxify' the tories as Michael Portillo says?? This is better than a tory overall majority, right?

Heathcliffscathy · 12/05/2010 15:16

fark me, haven't got loads of time and will come back later when do but have you seen what teh tories have agreed on civil liberties?? fantastic!

sorry, policywonk, but I watched it on live telly. It was at 17:25 yesterday I think, because Lammy had to go to a meeting with Lord Mandelson by 18:00 (It might have been 16:25 and 17:00), and Burley wanted to know whether the meeting was cancelled. He said he would be paged if it was. Then she started bullying him to find his researcher with the pager and check. He very gracefully declined and said he would not break such news on live tv. Then they started arguing whether Sky News was partisan and Kay Burley shouted that we do not know how she voted. She was way out of order throughout.
