Rofl at that article onebat especially:

"Earlier he had come back from the palace. We assume he didn't climb in the car and remark "that woman is a bigot".

Francagoestohollywood · 12/05/2010 10:01

"Sounds like making SureStart available only for the neediest means slashing their budget. Do not not agree with that and anyone who does should think long and hard about it. The support of SureStart could mean that a mum (even a middleclass mum) gets the support she needs to stay on her feet. I had similar support when recovering from a CS and it was partly that that averted a slide into PND"

I completely agree with Mme Lindt. Mothers, regardless of their census, need support in this modern fragmented society. Loneliness, nuclear families with no support from other family members seemed to me a huge problem in British society, when I was living there.

ANd lol at the poster blaming her 7 months darling son . A bit Freudian

leavingonajetplane · 12/05/2010 10:05

Little control over our dreams atm though. I dreamt I was racing around gathering up labour and Lib dem ballot papers that kept blowing away. I wasnt getting enough in time to stop the Tories and I woke up very fraught. It was like that bit at the end of crystal maze.

ladylush · 12/05/2010 10:09

Just wondering how DC reconciles his views on an entitlement culture with his own personal claim for removing wisteria from his chimney.........

CatIsSleepy · 12/05/2010 10:51

morning all

'this made me laugh on the BBC website:
former Labour minister Kim Howells was scathing of the Lib Dems, and said he was glad his party had not done a deal with them.
He said: "I tell you why it's been rejected by most Labour MPs - because they know that they're [the Liberal Democrats] a bunch of opportunistic toerags, who'll say anything to anyone in order to get power. And they've done it this time, they've got power."

Ouch! I detect a subtle note of bitterness there

thing is I sort of agree that LDs have been opportunistic but actually, can you blame them?

anyway
GAH to the immigration cap news

and re Surestart centres, I am not deprived personally but I was grateful to my local centres when I was going a bit bonkers post-dd2

CatIsSleepy · 12/05/2010 10:54

toriesare toast-thing is the tories will always be blaming GB for the cuts they have to impose and am pretty sure alot of the press will back them up on it
so it'll be 'it it hurts blame Gordon" for ages and ages

however if we go back into recession because of the cuts, they won't be able to blame labour or GB for that so that would be a different scenario, but am not sure I actually want that to happen

CatIsSleepy · 12/05/2010 10:55

if it hurts^

Anyone seen the lefties hate righties more or vice versa thread. I started a long post on there and reread the few posts above about the Daily Mail being right and deleted it!

Hassled · 12/05/2010 11:15

justa - I'm sure you alreday know this, but IPSEA are really useful re Statements. It's not necessarily too bad a process, and the pre-school support will help a lot.

"a bunch of opportunistic toerags" . Harsh, but then Kim Howells was always a tad forthright.

Portillo was interesting on Radio4 this morning - said that he thought the LibDem association would "detoxify" the Conservatives in the eyes of the electorate.

Iam more of the opinion that the tories will overwhelm the libdems.

Francagoestohollywood · 12/05/2010 11:22

Nymphadora, I saw that thread but forced myself not to even open it!

ZephirineDrouhin · 12/05/2010 11:25

Hearing the words "The Prime Minister, David Cameron" on the news today has brought it all home with a sickening thud.

I'm not sure the Lib Dems will be strong enough to detoxify the Tories. I was overly optimistic about their influence yesterday I think.

BeenBeta · 12/05/2010 11:40

policywonk - elected HOL on PR is very good. The HOL is a scrutinising body and that should reflect the broad electorate. HOC prposes laws and needs a clear contestable majority. A hung Parlaiment in the Lords is probably a good thing.

Making it PR election for HOL also stops an outgoing Govt stuffing it with its appointees to frustrate the incoming Govt. Personally I woudl like to have seen both te HOC and HOL members reduced to 500 and selected from lists proposed by each party and selected in proportion to the actual votes cast at the GE that chose the HOC. It would be much easier than holding two separate elections.

onebatmother · 12/05/2010 11:41

I'm a bit behind - does this fixed term stuff mean that Con/Lib coalition is guaranteed 4/5 years?

Unless there's a VONC - which there won't be because they're a proper, signed and sealed coalition with a majority?

Or have I got the wrong end of the shitstick?

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 11:43

Can I come on here and growl about a rabid tory nutcase on the thread about women in tge cabinet.

Grrrrrrrrr

Thanks.

leavingonajetplane · 12/05/2010 11:45

Saw that thread nymphadora and all I could think atm was "Yes. Yes I do" So I decided to spare everyone my lack of coherence. Shall continue to randomly post on this one though, reading stuff on here is the only comfort at the moment.

Think we will need this thread to continue as a support system throughout this entire administration.

Nymphadora · 12/05/2010 11:45

Franca it was one poster quoting dodgy facts and the daily mail that did it, otherwise could have been a decent discussion

onebatmother · 12/05/2010 11:46

Does anyone know anything about Andrew Lansley, apart from the obesity thing and the 'upside to recession is people see more of their families' thing?

Avocadoes · 12/05/2010 11:47

Theresa May is Home Sec. There is our token woman in an impr decision.

onebatmother · 12/05/2010 11:47

Alastair Campbell's blog: 'Enjoy the sunshine. It won't last. Rainfall levels have been lower on average under Labour than Tory governments. Not a lot of people know that.'

You gotta love him! Even spinning the weather.
