Of course not.

That's just silly.

nighbynight · 11/05/2010 21:05

No, the strongest emotions in British politics are reserved for the b***ds in your own party.

claig · 11/05/2010 21:06

yes of course, much much more.
you can see the difference by the mob outside Number 10 booing and chanting "Tories Out" when the majority of the people have chosen to vote for the Tories.
You never see mobs like this booing Labour. When Blair took over in 1997, it was all flag waving and cheering, because it was a stage managed event packed full of Labour party workers, something akin to a crowd in North Korea.

fembear · 11/05/2010 21:12

It is in their DNA, I think. They have to be angry all the time. It must be very exhausting for them.

i think you'll find more juvenile statements made against the Conservatives than against Labour, though in actual fact they are both center-right parties.

HerHonesty · 11/05/2010 21:18

claig get real and get your facts right.they neither got a majority of votes nor a majority of votes. 1997 wasnt stage managed, it was a genuine sense of relief of after 18 years of tory bollocks. we'll see the same thing next time when the tories get voted out and into the bin of history.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 11/05/2010 21:23

judging by MN, I'd say it goes fairly evenly both ways.

Unless this thread is a complicated double bluff to get a lot of right-wingers going,'Ha, yeah, the left are real wankers'?

Chil1234 · 11/05/2010 21:26

It boils down to jealousy, I think. If the right-wing party is said to be populated by the wealthy and privileged and the left-wing parties by the poor and disadvantaged.... then the left will naturally hate the right because of a feeling of being mistreated or looked down upon. 'Class struggle' only happens in an upwards direction....

EdgarAllenPoll · 11/05/2010 21:26

MT got a fairly good victory in 1979 - she still had the crowd of jeerers. nation was pretty pleased to be rid of labour then too! it is just the (crap) way some grass-roots labourites express themselves.

funnily enough, even though the two parties are much closer policy wise than they were back then, plenty of people haven't noticed...

gaelicsheep · 11/05/2010 21:29

The right generally hate the left - if that's how we're going to divide - because they have reasons for doing so. The left hates the right mostly out of blind tribalism.

claig · 11/05/2010 21:31

HerHonesty, you're causing me to do some work, I'm now going to have to spend time googling. I remember them telling us on the news that the people outside Number 10, who Blair shook hands with, the ones cheering and waving flags, were Labour Party workers a la Kim Jong-il in the democratic republic of North Korea.

What I meant was that the Tories got the largest proportion of votes of any party. They were the one party most favoured by the voters (but obviously not the Number 10 mob. I think we'll see the sane mob popping up everywhere in the coming years)

eeniemeenie · 11/05/2010 21:32

Yes I think they probably do, have read some fairly vicious anti tory threads recently

claig · 11/05/2010 21:33

same

animula · 11/05/2010 21:36

I'm with nighbynight on this one.

ButterPie · 11/05/2010 21:39

I think it is down to who is on each side. GENERALLY, the people on the left could lose a much larger percentage of their income and services. The right TEND to be a bit more cushioned. You get more angry about losing 25% of your income if it leaves you with no money to buy food than if it leaves you with no money to buy your second home/ski holiday/gold plated horse box.

Plus, the left TEND (please note that I know I am stereotyping wildly) to be less educated and powerful and so don't have other means to show their displeasure.

HerHonesty · 11/05/2010 21:39

are you saying there were no tory party workers outside number ten tonight?

glad to see you now understand what a majority means...

ButterPie · 11/05/2010 21:41

Chil- Class struggle definitely happens in a downward direction- witness the policies of keeping the unions down, resisting the minimum wage, demonising single parents...I'd say that is pretty class based.

goodnightmoon · 11/05/2010 21:42

are single parents on the left?

claig · 11/05/2010 21:43

there were more of the graceless booers and jeerers shaming the nation as these pictures are displayed all over the world

poshsinglemum · 11/05/2010 21:43

The right seeks to oppress the left so I'd say the feeling is mutual!

but it doesn't matter, Tories don't need Kim Jong-il style phony adulation. The people of the country still prefer them without the need for stage-managed events, because they are in tune with a large number of the public. You'll find over the next few months that Cameron is genuine and won't need to bus in party supporters to boost his image. He'll put up with the booers, jeerers and hissers and act in the interests of the country in a dignified manner observing the correct protocol and decorum. The public will see the jeerers in action and draw their own conclusions.

vesela · 11/05/2010 21:49

I think the left are suspicious of the right, and the right get exasperated with the left. OK, those aren't the only two emotions but they play a big role.

Ninjacat · 11/05/2010 21:50

The left have more to be angry about. They are angry for a million others not just themselves.
