The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

I think the BNP needs to change...that's a positive statement.

Riven, I will not be going to any more meet-ups...you have my word on that.

Ladylush. I think don't Daftpunk has even read the BNP manifesto, most people never read the manifestos of the party they vote for, they vote on one or two policies that the particular party says that they will address. As far as disabled children are concerned I don't know the persons name concerned, but it is scandalous that he should speak about the most vulnerable people in our society in that way, I worked with disabled children for many years and they take enough stick (mostly unintentional) as it is. That aside most governments have never properly funded respite care or help for these children. Where I used to work the council closed a school for deaf children and built a block of private flats.

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 10:33

Steelfairy, I totally agree and I shan't be reporting your post.

daftpunk · 12/05/2010 10:36

The BNP's education policy wanted all 16 yr olds to work with disabled people...as part of getting the community together.

DP I cannot believe you have started yet another BNP thread. Didn't you embarrass yourself enough last week when it was evident that you had absolutely no clue what their policies were and you couldn't answer any questions?

Please, get a hobby, cross stitch, archery, suduko, anything but you have to stop trying to promote these thugs and trying to pretend you have the first clue about politics.
You don't, your views come across as naive from a childish individual who has no idea of how real life works.

Truly, they do. There is no substance what so ever, so all that comes across are your pretty abhorrent views.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 12/05/2010 10:37

According to DisAbled People against the BNP, the BNP membership of 11,811 is less than the circulation of "Cage and Aviary Birds" magazine, and barely half the membership of the Bakers and Allied Food Workers Union - and just a seventh of the number of adults who are boy scout leaders. That doesn't look like they are doing terribly well, does it.

I also found the following on the site:

"in response to the death of Ivan Cameron, son of David Cameron, leader of the Conservative Party, senior BNP member Jeffery Marshall claimed in an internet forum discussion: ?We live in a country today which is unhealthily dominated by an excess of sentimentality towards the weak and unproductive. No good will come of it.?

Later, in response to comments made by others on the site, Marshall is alleged to have written: ?There is not a great deal of point in keeping these people alive after all.?

Daftpunk - please explain how on earth you can support a party that has such disgusting views about people - real people - like Riven's dd and SteelFairy's child?

The possibility that PR might allow the BNP a voice in parliament is enough alone to prevent me ever supporting PR.

To All. I can't think of anything worse than going to a MN meet-up, it would be more like a punch-up! I would rather go to an office party, could be some nice men there, and also some pleasant conversation, drinkies, and hopefully the guests would not be talking about politics, no certainly the hair and wigs would be flying at a MN do, not my cup of tea.

posieparker · 12/05/2010 10:40

Why oh why do you try to come across with this 'honourable' shite? You support a group of hate filled animals who have 'comedians' telling 'ni@@er' jokes at BNP rally camps?

Ah but Complimentary, she claims to have familiarised herself with the BNP manifesto. She also claims to be intelligent - though that is up for debate. You can't cherry pick policies from a racist organisation that marginalises many groups in society (disabled, many ethnic groups, religious groups, homosexuals, women etc.) You just can't - imvho

daftpunk · 12/05/2010 10:42

Ok,....leaving the thread now.

Just wanted to give my assessment.

That's all.

The last thing I want to do is hurt or upset anyone on MN...but, y'know..democracy and all that, it's good to get all views and opinions...all life is out there...perhaps a good thing that we talk about it..?

I promise you...I will never start another thread about the BNP.

Maybe we've all had enough

och look, don't give us yer shite, dp, you've already posted AT LENGTH as to the fact that you wouldn't want your child educated alongside a disabled child.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 12/05/2010 10:43

Not on topic, I know - but I've been to a mn meetup in Edinburgh, and had a wonderful time.

Aitch · 12/05/2010 10:44

please note, 'never start'. but she will no doubt continue to hijack whereever she will get the most attention...

complimentary · 12/05/2010 10:45

Riven. Daftpunk actually revealed herself? I was right, she must have balls of steel!(or she's a Judo expert).

ladylush · 12/05/2010 10:46

Quite mad imo - nothing to do with balls of steel

posieparker · 12/05/2010 10:47

Oh DP....you do this all of the time.

shite, shite, shite and then woe is me, I never meant to hurt anyone....

Really? So the last twenty threads where posters clearly stated that they were offended meant nothing to you?

My three year old does this, she pinches her brother and when challenged she simply says it was an accident.
