Hope this is ok, I was getting withdrawal symptoms!

It sounds like pastyclayface gets Chancellor - I was hoping Ken Clarke might manage it.

I think the Lib Dems are going to focus on the poor and political reform ... they'll at least put a break on the natural evil :-)

They have dug up all the old bastards, Heseltine, Redwood, It's a nightmare.

I dread the Today programme,

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/05/2010 20:56

I don't think anyone on MN has ever told me to fuck off before.

Sophable - the libdem is a complete wasted vote in my view. The party for those who have not the wit to stand by the courage of their convictions (or actually have no convictions in the first place). You vote lib dem last week, you may as well have voted tory.

Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 20:57

i want human beings that admit to messiness serving me in parliament. i want a renewed emphasis on civil liberties (utterly fucked over by blair and brown). I want the tories to either move left or to fuck themselves up and I want a total and utter end to two party politics in this country.

feel closer to that than i have for 10 years tonight.

Jacaqueen · 11/05/2010 20:57

I grew up in Scotland under the Conservatives and now my boys will have to do the same.

I feel physically sick.

I had no idea that this result would have such a profound effect on me.

One good thing to come out of all of this is the re-awakening of my political interest. I have been rather laid back in my whole approach for the last 5 years. Well that stops now.

I tell you what nobody better mess with me at the parent council meeting this week!

theyoungvisiter · 11/05/2010 20:57

Best case scenario:

Tories make all the nasty cuts. Lib Dems stop them from putting the boot into the needy too much. Everyone hates the coalition and it collapses in time for labour to take over in 2012 when we win 3 trillion medals at the Olympics and Ken Livingstone is re-elected as London mayor.

Worst case scenario:

Tories don't make any cuts and blame their spinelessness on Lib Dems. Press backs them up. Everyone hates the coalition and it collapses in time for the Tories to take over in 2012. PR becomes a distant longed for memory and Lib dems lose any political credibility for a generation. The Tories get in just as the economy revitalises, claim all the credit and we're stuck with them for 10 years.

What odds on each scenario?

Francagoestohollywood · 11/05/2010 20:57

Ok, guys, if you want to talk to me about finding yourself in a country with a PM you really don't like, I'm at your service. I'm used to it.
It's awful btw.

Loujalou · 11/05/2010 20:57

Hezza looks like he might pop it on screen.

violetqueen · 11/05/2010 20:57

letthereberock - keep repeating " poisoned chalice ,poisoned chalice " .
To yourself ,obviously .

ImSoNotTelling · 11/05/2010 20:58

or will they wait until tomorrow (surely not)

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 20:58

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 11/05/2010 20:58

I am still holding out hope that whey faces Osborne does not get chancellor.

Is Obama getting his meat order in?

LetThereBeRock · 11/05/2010 20:58

WombFrootShoot · 11/05/2010 20:59

Simon Hughes looked BEYOND uncomfortable

The press truly rules the Country.

Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 20:59

jesus getorf...you know what, the BEDROCK of libdemocracy is DEMOCRACY.

the general public voted labour out! there was no deal to be done with them. you have no idea what the deal is yet.

i'm sorry about the fuck off, thought we were friendly enough for it not to raise an eyebrow...soz.

LadyBiscuit · 11/05/2010 21:00

I wrote a long post and it went awol. I've been an utter bitch but it's been a fucking shitty day. I've hidden the thread now. Rise Above It. I might crack the prosecco - it's all the wine I've got in the house but it's a bit wrong isn't it?

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 21:00

Franca
I know I am not keen on DC but to compare him to Silvio is a bit low.

onebatmother · 11/05/2010 21:00

I'm with you Getorf.

IMO - and I know that many will not agree, LibDem = ashamed Tory.

DavidHameron · 11/05/2010 21:00

I'm rofling at the coverage as the car turns into Downing St: cheers dubbed in background, woman in white coat giving massive double Thumbs Down!

SanctiMoanyArse · 11/05/2010 21:01

Well Soph that's true fro England but here in Wales there is a feeling of oh no we didn't vote in the Tories- and I hear the same in Scotland exists.

So I am anticipating a rise in plaid support if nowt else.

ImSoNotTelling · 11/05/2010 21:01

I'm going to have to go to bed I'm worn out.

PLease don't have a row, lefties.

Fingers crossed that eggy drove a hard bargain.

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 21:01

LadyB
Open the prosecco. Drink to Brown being a good man. The thread was nasty. I posted then hid.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/05/2010 21:02

No No of course I am not upset about the fuck off, no need to apologise (genuiine, not passive aggressive!)

Oh I am just pissed off. I know that lib/lab deal was a no go, and this is probably the best to have hoped for. But just gutted gutted to see the back of labour.

theyoungvisiter · 11/05/2010 21:02

But I don't understand - how can they talk as if the coalition is a done deal?

They don't know if it will get past the triple lock. They can make all the marriage toasts they like, but they haven't even signed the pre-nup yet.
