Where had we got to? We'd agreed that we all love Cameron, right?

OP posts:
CaptainNancy · 08/05/2010 21:54

Sorry... I am lost- who is DavidHameron please? HamShine?

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 21:55

TYV - I am in Bromsgrove constituency - Rabid tories here despite Julie Kirkbride, and UKIP/BNP made up 10% of the vote

Of course, there must be lefties here - Labour and the Libs did get votes after all - I am trying a tactic of quickly cycling through new acqaintances until I find one I like - economical

I watched HIGNFY - Hislop seems to get let and less secretive of his political leanings as time goes on

theyoungvisiter · 08/05/2010 21:55

Oh yes - Rights of Man.

Could do a double-header with Vindication of the Rights of Women.

I'm drinking hot rum in an attempt to deblock my agonising sinuses.

theyoungvisiter · 08/05/2010 21:57

Pfft - how do you filter their views? Do you have a set of secret interview questions to sort them?

MarionCole · 08/05/2010 21:59

DS is 3 this week and all his nursery friends are therefore also going through their birthdays. I've discovered a simple way of finding out the political allegiances of his friends parents - see what newspaper the pass-the-parcel is wrapped in! Now I have a good idea of whom I want to encourage playdates with.

DavidHameron · 08/05/2010 22:00

Nancy, you invited me for a coffee after my haircut but I didn't take you up on the offer (nowt personal - next time?!)

Pfft:I'm red. Big state, high taxes, with a fair bit of communitarianism thrown in. Never voted anything else, but have thought about LibDem because of their taxation policies.

taffetacat · 08/05/2010 22:03

DH and I argue a lot. We always have, its our raison d'etre. Unsurprisngly, we seem to have fairly argumentative children.

We too live in a disgustingly safe Tory seat (57%). There was no Green candidate, and apart from an Indie and the usual, we had BNP, English Democarts and UKIP. Thoroughly depressing.

taffetacat · 08/05/2010 22:04

terrible typo Democarts can't think of a joke for it

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 22:06

TYV - unfortunately not - the election has made things easier of course, and trying to speak to people at the school gates rather lends itself to short conversations and hardly speaking to someone ever again.

And of course, it;s not just political, it can be easy to weed out the racists, they tend ot show their true colours early on.

AppleTreeWick · 08/05/2010 22:07

I am hammering the harveys (not proud emoticon) watching guitar heroes from the 70's.

What Society Does To Young Women...was pretty influential on my thinking. I reread it after DD1 was born and it scared the shit out of me..how far we have fallen

MarionCole · 08/05/2010 22:08

I was actually rather pleased to discover that his best friend's pass-the-parcel was wrapped in the Grauniad. Must make sure I do the same this week, it's like a secret language.

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 22:09

hungy - that's quite a communist red you have there

I think I need to carry a multiple choice questionnaire at all times in case I meet any new potential friends. Yes, I think this will be a popular strategy, everyone will want to be friends with me

theyoungvisiter · 08/05/2010 22:11

Christ that political reform/economy thread is both stupid and depressing.

I typed out a massive response about the ridiculous false dichotomy of the OP, and the way that this was typical of right wing parties to hold the country to financial ransom in order to shore up their own pathetic position at the expense of the ordinary people:

"No you can't vote us out/introduce a minimum wage/extend maternity leave/increase higher rate taxes because the markets won't like it and we'll all be DOOMED".

It's classic right wing tactics - protect your own feathered nest by scaremongering about the consequences of any altruistic action.

Anyway. I typed it all out and then thought - what's the point.

[shakes head]

[grinds teeth]

hungysavingexpertdotcom · 08/05/2010 22:12

My dad, big 1970s union man, wouldn't let me wear blue clothes as a child - and when I went to a Labour party thing with him where Prescott and some lefty slebs were going to be present, he bought me a red dress because I turned up at his house in blue. I was 26. Our cars were always red or white.

DavidHameron · 08/05/2010 22:13

arf hungy.

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 22:15

I have typed and deleted several posts on the righty threads.

There is no point, I knew I was only annoying myself

hungysavingexpertdotcom · 08/05/2010 22:15

Just take the dulux colour chart with you pfft. If they cover their eyes at anything more than a roasted red just walk away.

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 22:16
Grin
hungysavingexpertdotcom · 08/05/2010 22:17

It's hard not to chip in, isn't it pfft? Sure some of them feel the same about these threads. I came to the conclusion we're better off separated atm. I do believe, however, that we have both more actual posts AND a bigger share of the overall posting total, so can claim a landslide and therefore a mandate to witter on endlessly about how great the left is

hungysavingexpertdotcom · 08/05/2010 22:19

Far too inobscure, Hameron. I texted. Looks like we may be hearing the patter of two tiny HTC Desires shortly chez Hungy.

AppleTreeWick · 08/05/2010 22:21

how cool is your dad hungry!

TYV Post and run surely?

The more I think about my upbringing the more surprised I am that about what my parents aren't rather than what they are...not even casual racism or homophobia growing up despite a heavy working class/religious/union/whitewhitewhite/straightstraightstraight environment. Mind you they fucking hate Torys.

CaptainNancy · 08/05/2010 22:21

Aha! Thanks

ooh- a fellow android lover! (as it were...) Mines a milestone...

theyoungvisiter · 08/05/2010 22:24

I thought about posting and running - but I knew in practise I'd feel obliged to defend my corner from all the rightists and I'd be there all night.

I couldn't press "hide thread" - they'd think I'd gone quiet because I accepted their point of view and agreed that I was WRONG!
