I'm sorry but how can anyone vote for someone who only gave up their non dom status during the election campaign? How does someone like that contribute to Britain? He only became a tax payer because of the election. To me, that is a scum person.

And whilst he roundly won his seat, why did he have that gurning hooray behind him during the announcements? That, I have to say, was one of my favourite moments of the election, watching that berk's face. Could you get any more Tory?

yup, I was a bit when I saw him there.

Possibly the most out of touch mp there is.

But he got his seat, didn't he? He's a prat but I wonder just what awfulness one has to do to not get voted in?

sfxmum · 07/05/2010 21:11

I am deeply disappointed and thoroughly embarrassed
knew he would be a challenge but was not really expecting him to win

claig · 07/05/2010 21:19

agree that Hooray was a berk, and who did that to his hair? But the left will grow to love Zac, he's a green.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 07/05/2010 21:24

He's blue. He'll always be blue. Green my arse.

He can pontificate about the environment all he likes. It's bollocks. He thinks he shouldn't have to pay tax like the rest of the British population. Typical Tory. They think they shouldn't have to do as the rest because they're special.

I'm so angry about today. I'm so pissed off the Tories won even if it wasn't a landslide. I think they are a hideous party.

So disappointing. Gutted here too.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2010 21:27

Hear, hear, ItsGrim!

Kitsilano · 07/05/2010 21:30

Not happy either. In Zac's constituency and voted LibDem.

radioblahblah · 07/05/2010 21:33

couldn't agree more itsgrim. feel strangely proud to be scottish today and our resolute determination to keep the Tories out.

goodnightmoon · 07/05/2010 21:34

I'm not an expert on his tax situation, but I am pretty sure I read that he has always paid UK tax on earnings. The issue was some offshore trust set up for him, not by him, that controlled certain assets on his behalf. This is not that rare, even for the non-wealthy, so I wouldn't get too upset about it.

I get more annoyed about people like Philip Green who are knighted and whatnot when they have actually gone out of their way to suck profits out of UK businesses via offshore vehicles to avoid taxes.

taffetacat · 07/05/2010 21:37

I snorted at the telly very loudly when I saw the braying toff kick off next to posh posterboy Goldsmith.

taffetacat · 07/05/2010 21:38

radio - I am the flipside. Very ashamed to live in Kent, not one Labour seat.

ZephirineDrouhin · 07/05/2010 21:41

Yes there's the Tory thing, and the non-dom thing, and the lying cheating thing, and the millionnaire thing and the hair and the teeth and all his rah rah friends.

But I think he really might be Green. See Caroline Lucas' surprisingly positive review of his book

SuziKettles · 07/05/2010 21:41

One day weaseling out of paying tax will be seen to be as shameful as being a benefit cheat and we'll all be better off. Except for tax accountants.

Can you imagine: some city boy boasting about how his accountant has found him some great loophole involving taking x percent of his salary in West Highland tree plantations* blah blah...and the table just goes a bit quiet, everyone shuffles their feet a bit and someone changes the subject as soon as they can.

*I have no idea how these "perfectly legitimate" dodges work in all honesty.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2010 21:44

Yes, well, goodnight, he's also a lying cheating twunt.

When a person cheats on his/her spouse, they're cheating on their family, too.

Now he's living with his lover.

If that were my son I'd think black burning shame of him.

And if he ran for public office, I'd tell anyone would listen, too.

EldonAve · 07/05/2010 21:44

the non dom thing is irrelevant
he will have paid tax on his UK earnings

ItsGrimUpNorth · 07/05/2010 21:46

"....so I wouldn't get too upset about it."

Why? Because it's just the way things are with the Tories? HOw very patronising. It's the status quo. There, there. Don't get too upset. He is rich and you are not.

He still had the choice to be non dom or not. He, up until the election, chose to be non dom. IMO scum.

Philip Green is not an m.p.

OP posts:
ItsGrimUpNorth · 07/05/2010 21:48

I mean he could still opt out of the non dom status with regards the trust set up for him. Don't make him out to be some helpless trustafarian for goodness sake. His accountants will be making sure he gets the best possible tax loopholes available.

OP posts:
goodnightmoon · 07/05/2010 21:50

sorry. I assumed there could be a sensible discussion here, didn't realise it was just an excuse to rant against someone who people don't like the look of.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2010 21:51

I couldn't care less how much money he's got.

He's in an office that will decide how people are to be taxed when he wriggled out of it.

And he's a man capable of lying and cheating and walking out on his family.

I don't trust people like that any farther than I can throw them, be they Hoorays or the loser druggie downstairs, who at least doesn't think himself capable of dictating to other masses of strangers how their finances are going to go.

Twonk.

He's one of the top greens, that's what I don't like about him. I think you'll be surprised, he will eventually be one of the left's favourite Tories and won't be that popular on the right.

goodnightmoon · 07/05/2010 21:55

I wonder if some people here are aware or just conveniently overlooking all the party funding scandals, of enormous amounts of money given to all three major parties by non-doms?
