Just starting this so that we can all post our thoughts throughout the day.

My wish for today is that as many people as possible GO OUT AND VOTE.

I cannot vote as I have been living abroad for over 15 years so if anyone wants to vote for me, I would like to vote for Gordon Brown. Voting by MN proxy

you must live in a safe area toccata - they ship activists out to marginal seats.

sungirl they are only allowed to say hello and ask for your number on the way in. less scary for the punters!

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 18:29

no we're very marginal my vote was worth 3x the national average - only 600 seats between Tory and Labour last time round

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 18:38

then they are lazy sods!

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 18:41

and thankfully the BNP didn't even deliver a leaflet through my door (shame really DS3 seemed to quite enjoy eating half of the UKIP, English Democrats, and Racist Independent ones the other day and chucking the rest down the toilet )

woodchuck · 06/05/2010 18:43

we voted by post this year as we are terribly lazy (and to be fair, i am in the middle of my finals so wasn't sure whether I would be in a too-big exam panic to worry about the election on the day)

now i feel as though i have missed out on something by not actually going down there and voting at the polling station. I did linger outside the community centre this morning trying to suss out the voting intentions of passers-by, but it was drizzling, and no one was going in or coming out

ABatInBunkFive · 06/05/2010 18:43

OYBBK - I've not seen anyone either i live in a marginal seat too, round here it seems it's not just the voters who have apathy.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 18:45

I have to say even though I do feel I've voted for the right MP for our area I do feel a bit sick at the thought that I could have helped dig a huge hole for myself by helping he Tories get in........

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/05/2010 18:47

Hmm. DH was meant to come back here tonight (has been away since Monday) but due to car problems (which have now been sorted) he is staying there tonight. Was relying on an awake adult taking children to school. May reconsider my plans for tonight...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 18:55

can you arrange a taxi?

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/05/2010 18:57

Well I could....but he's 160 miles away .

Will organise a loud alarm I think

Alibabaandthe40tories · 06/05/2010 19:00

toccata if you have voted on local issues then that is the right thing to do. Potentially has far more impact on your quality of life than anything decided in Westminster.

pagwatch · 06/05/2010 19:01

I am in one of the closest marginals too and i have not had a single knock.
I put it down to laziness, assumptions and my previous tit flashing at Chris Greyling. Although we have moved so I hoped that would not have followed me.
Perhaps there is a generic tory restraining order?

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 19:13

well that's the thing you see - he's been a decent MP despite his Toryness

He has fought for local people on issues - and got results like for this little boy (sorry is terrible font on there)

I just kind of think well single mum on benefits - I'm pretty screwed no matter who gets in with the state the economy is in, better to have someone who actually does things for his constituents than his rival who I don't really recall doing anything much for local people when he was in office before him (and is standing against him today)

lostinwales · 06/05/2010 19:15

Right been out and voted, fed DS', wine in the fridge, just got to take DS1 to surf club practice at the pool then I can settle down at 9pm in time for all the programmes starting.

Very marginal seat here too and I've had one leaflet from each candidate and nothing else.

Alibabaandthe40tories · 06/05/2010 19:28

Right the wine is open and the pizza is ordered!

Toccata very sensible choice (obv. am biased )

mspotatochip · 06/05/2010 19:42

Is finding all this "normal" news on c4 a little odd. We are in that strange twilight zone before the polls close

DreamsInBinary · 06/05/2010 19:47

Hello hello

Just voted on the way home from work and nursery pickup - they were absolutely fine about my lack of voting card.

It's getting exciting

MmeLindtChocBrownies · 06/05/2010 19:49

Evening all.

Having bagel with Jambon at the moment. Was at a poncy cocktail party tonight and gorged on the hors d'oeuvres so thought I should have something decent before I open the crisps and wine

Very weird, yes. Watching CH4 news too. Nothing decent on TV until the polls close.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 19:57

at poncy cocktail party.
going to watch a taped holby I think for a bit...

mspotatochip · 06/05/2010 20:03

I am so sad I'm watching the beginning of c4 news on 4+1 as kids were still awake then didn't see it, normal tele not doing it for me at present.

This interesting from Guardian website

7.40pm: The BBC journalist Martha Kearney, who is presenting tonight's election results programme on Radio 4, could be in trouble.

My colleague Matt Wells points out that she appears to have broken the BBC's election rules by tweeting the following:

Live blog: Twitter

Senior Tory tells me they have small overall majority.

and this:

Lab campaign source tells they think 310-320 for Cons; 280 for Lab. 71% turnout

They may or may not have been deleted by the time you read this.

VirtualPA · 06/05/2010 20:10

Just went to vote - Only in Peterborough do you vote with 14 police men and 3 riot vans outside

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 20:15

gosh mspotato what a silly lady.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 06/05/2010 20:15

Sorry, haven't read the whole thread but wondered if you'd all printed off your election night party pack here

election bingo anyone?

BeenBeta · 06/05/2010 20:18

Meanwhile, for are all watching of the UK election the stock markets, bond markets and currency markets are in very deep stress across the world tonight.

Alibabaandthe40tories · 06/05/2010 20:18
