Just starting this so that we can all post our thoughts throughout the day.

My wish for today is that as many people as possible GO OUT AND VOTE.

I cannot vote as I have been living abroad for over 15 years so if anyone wants to vote for me, I would like to vote for Gordon Brown. Voting by MN proxy

Shade .......cricket over general election that's grounds for divorce???

MmeLindt · 06/05/2010 10:39

Great link, SGM. Loved it. Sums up my feelings about GB actually. He is a politician of the old firm, not a sleazy spin doctor.

Nymphadora - What's the iPhone app?

Kinda gutted we voted by post, quite fancy going to the polling station today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 10:59

Yes!!! have tackled my to do list. can waste time concentrate on imprtant issues.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 11:01

Nigel Farage in plane crash. possibly caused by towed election banner getting tangled around tail fin.

MmeLindt · 06/05/2010 11:18

Goodness, the poor pilot. Seems he is more seriously injured.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 11:22

goodness!

I need to get on.........really want to go and vote and if I was just doing that I would be fine.......but I'm still raging about having to get a new car seat while I'm out and I know once I hand over the cash for it I'll be ever more

abr1de · 06/05/2010 11:24

'It's pathetic that rain keeps people from doing their civic duty that people risked life and limb to get them.'

ENtirely agree, expat. It's pathetic. I remember watching the first 'free' election in South Africa where people were queuing for miles to vote. Very moving.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 11:26

abr1de - that's true about SA - however sadly their enthusiasm didn't last long as all elections since then have had much lower (similar to uK GE ones) turn outs.

abr1de · 06/05/2010 11:26

I want to vote asap but I promised my daughter I'd take her with me after school so she can see what happens. I'm pleased she's interested but, just a thought, presumably nobody will mind her coming in? IT's a small village hall: usually no more than two people voting at a time.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 11:27

children are fine so long as you don't let them mark the paper

onebatonevote · 06/05/2010 11:30

Just back. Crikey, it was like the 60s in there.

abr1de · 06/05/2010 11:30

THank you!

Just need to remind her to keep quiet and not ask loud questions: 'WHo's that man going to vote for, Mum? Shall we ask him?'

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 11:32

DS3 will probably be firing offf totally OT questions the whole time........he's 2.11yrs

Suppose I really ought to make a move.......

abr1de · 06/05/2010 11:33

It's great they are keen to learn. SHame their enthusiasm doesn't rub off on non-voters.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 11:39

good link toccata!

re the plane crash, while I'm not a ukip supporter wouldnt wish it on anyone. hope they both make a full recovery.

ilovemydogandMrBrown · 06/05/2010 11:42

Don't understand. How did the banner get caught in the engine?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 11:44

It looks (looking at a picture of it) it was a long banner that may have twisted around the back. I guess its speculation at this point.

posieparker · 06/05/2010 11:44

I think people should be fined if they don't use their vote, although I'm not sure how democratic that is!!!

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 06/05/2010 11:49

I wish I could get DH to vote, he's 48 and never voted. Says he's not going to break the habit of a lifetime.

Says if he doesn't vote he can't be blamed when it all goes wrong and he says it always goes wrong no matter whos in charge

What time do the first results start coming in?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 11:50

bit after 11pm (according to link somewhere above) not many til about 1am when they come flooding in. (hopefully!)

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 12:01

right - I'm off to vote, buy a car seat and buy some breakfast cereal.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 12:02

thats an odd combination! have fun

AbsOfCroissant · 06/05/2010 12:06

Ah yes, the 1994 SA elections. I was there for that - way too young to vote though. I remember it like it was yesterday, the seven hour long queues, the fear, the excitement, men with AK47s. Great times! My parents and siblings all worked at the polling stations, and my dad and siblings helped count the results!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 12:09

blimey Abs - something to be proud of.
