Election watching strategy - what's yours???

I have always quite enjoyed the results coverage (ignore sadness of that for now ) but am undecided on my approach this time around and would be interested on what other MNers might be doing.

"Push through til dawn" with a gallon of wine as in the past (not so easy with 2 small DC's waking up at 6.30am). I am not, however, doing the school run tomorrow, so only have to get them out the door and can then resume snoozing...

Go to bed early, set the alarm and get up later?

Just grab the duvet and doze on and off on the sofa????

What are you going to do??

No idea. I wanted to stay up but feeling a bit under the weather today and DS got me up at 5, so I suspect I will fall asleep... Some constituencies not counting votes until tomorrow anyway, so we might not know the result until then, depending on how close it is.

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/05/2010 08:13

I am going to be staying up.

Northernlurker · 06/05/2010 08:15

I may have a nap - depends what time dh gets home - but then we are going to stay up for as long as we can. If I can make it to 3am I reckon we'll have a good idea what's happening. We've both booked tomorrow off work but have to do the school/nursery run. Still - we can have an afternoon nap too.

MitchyInge · 06/05/2010 08:16

Hm. Only slept for 3 hours last night and am working today and Friday, idea of missing it is really sad though

especially when something exciting is likely to happen!

MrsLiberalTheWaitress · 06/05/2010 08:16

Interested to hear what others are doing too, so marking my place!

We are undecided - I'd like to stay up, but I know I'll reget it if I do!

CwtchyMama · 06/05/2010 08:18

I am staying up for as long as i can,i have got a huge bar of chocolate to nibble on & we are off tomorrow so can have a nap in the afternoon if needs be.

I dont normally do politics,i have always voted but have never been interested in it at all,but this time i am engrossed.

MrsJohnDeere · 06/05/2010 08:18

I think I'm going to go to bed at 9.30 then get up again at 4. Ds2 will be up by 5.30 so I can't really stay up late then lie in.

I keep changing my mind though. This will be the first one where I haven't stayed up all night (but also the first with dcs).

Am quite tempted to just go to bed at 10/11, record the coverage, then just watch it in the morning and fastforward through all the dull bits. I'd have to do the pre-school run with my fingers in my ears and ask people not to spoil the result for me!

I might watch Charlie Brooker until 10, then go to bed. We'll have a busy day tomorrow.

CwtchyMama · 06/05/2010 08:34

Which channel will you be watching it on? I am thinking the BBC cos i hate the adverts on ITV & SKY.

getthewineinthefridge · 06/05/2010 08:39

It has to be the BBC, Sky is so grating and SO pro Tory (and I am a Tory voter ffs!). And my oh my, who can resist the draw of David Dimbleby? Sublimely professional and composed....

Channel 4 are doing some fun stuff though, so for some alternative angles on the whole event and to break up the big wait a bit, that could be worth a channel flick.

BRING IT ON!!!!!

My plan is going to be a bit of each: to go to bed when my DS does (7.30 ish) for a few hours, get up at around 10 to see exit polls, welcome our weekend visitors who will be arriving at around 11.30, then go off to bed at 12.3oish, and set my alarm for about 3 when things should start to get interesting.

I have tomorrow off work so will be able to catch up on sleep then too.

TheOldestCat · 06/05/2010 16:44

My plan is Baby Led Watching - I'll be up several times to feed DS in the night, so will multitask with the election.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 17:29

I am still undecided. have had a nap
I do have to be a little bit compos mentis tomorrow as I have a nurse appt, but other than that no comitments.

hmmm what to do..... I might take Mints approach but dh was very at me for that as I'm supposed to be taking life easy.

Twit · 06/05/2010 17:39

Up 'til about 10ish I'll flick betwixt BBC and Channel 4. Probably I will then watch in bed so I can snooze. I might set my alarm for about 3 though as that is when our results are expected.
My problem will be wanting to be here and watching [no laptop]

amidaiwish · 06/05/2010 17:47

baby led watching, i love that. if tonight is anything like last night i will see it all (dd2 up all night scared of "giants" screaming, ffs)

anyway, considering i have a full on day tomorrow and am knackered from last night's antics, i will probably stay up til about 11 then get up early, 6ish and watch in the morning before the school run
