We got our local election ones last week and sent them off but no sign of the general one, so I guess I'm not voting

Are you meant to get different ones? You only get one polling card if you vote in person. Have you called the council?

these are actual ballot papers, though.

That's really bad. The whole postal vote system is messed up, in my opinion.

can you ring your town hall and demand to be allowed to vote at the polling station? (no idea if this will work but it bloody well ought to).

Flowery, you really do need to raise this with someone.

Flowery, I've just seen this in a friend's status on FB:

"Not yet received your postal vote? You have until 5pm Thurs to ask for a replacement, which must be returned by 10pm Thurs."

I asked him for clarification, but to me this sounds as if you can go to your town hall in person and ask them to hand you a ballot paper, which then has to be returned to them (I suppose you just give them the envelope on the spot) by 10pm.

bit hard if you're at work, though - "Sorry, can I just nip to the town hall to get my postal vote because the system is so incompetent?"

vesela · 05/05/2010 13:51

OK, friend has just clarified:

"Turn up at electoral services and ask them to sort it - yes."

Thanks for replying, feel like a birrofa nobhead I emailed local council & they said it's only one slip-someone at work said they had 2 separate ones & I'd seen online that another local borough seemed to have them separately too.

Phew, ok looks like I already have voted then!

yes I think they all do it differently... apparently one council sent out postal votes for the GE with the instructions as for council elections, i.e. vote for three candidates only. Perfect for the undecided.
