Do post your advance questions here.

OP posts:

and how does he have the brass neck to carry on with his scaremongering on that? He does it every time. How can you hold your head up high if you want to lie your way back into power?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/05/2010 23:55

vesela - I completely agree (I know we are in disagreement about who should replace GB however! ).
GB's constant banging on about what the Tories and Lib Dems are going to do with CTC is getting incredibly tiresome.
There was an interesting piece on the BBC earlier, Hugh Pym showing that actually when you take the alterations to CTC that Lib and Con would make as a part of other adjustments in the taxation system then it discredits GB's scaremongering even more.

I do think that a journalist should be able to stand up in an interview and say 'look you are actually lying about this', because a lot of people including many on here are just taking what he says at face value.

Pollsworth · 03/05/2010 23:58

I'm curious to know more about these allegations of lies re: CTC. Can anyone point me towards the specific proposals of the tories and libdems on this?

I've never been eligible for CTCs so I don't know how it works tbh.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/05/2010 00:17

Pollsworth - try iPlayer or the BBC website for the BBC piece I refer to. It gives precise details on chop off points - IIRC anyone with a household income lower than £32K won't be affected, so it is hardly going to hit 'the very poorest' as GB has claimed repeatedly.

Pollsworth · 04/05/2010 00:20

Thanks Alibaba - I'll have a look for that. Yvette Cooper was on Newsnight earlier arguing about CTCs, but it was during the webchat here so I didn't pay proper attention!

Beachcomber · 04/05/2010 07:45

That's an interesting link about the bank shares TDiddy, thanks.

Alibaba I don't suppose you've got a link? I've had a quick look but can't find the piece. Ta.

SanctiMoanyArse · 04/05/2010 08:10

ridiculoues eh Riv?

Whilst today, just 40 mnutes away, we launch the fight to get ds1 out of mainsrtream (review tomorroe, paperwork review today)

Stupid system

But as it costs ££££££ it will remain stupid under any leaderr: I doubt that not. Regardless of what happens Thursday it'll still be the same bods at the council making decsions, and the same non-SN p[riorities made with possibly a tighter budget

Unless of course the village mums get to start their own school in which case there'll be no issues coz I reckon ds1'll be only one left in the schoppol anyway LOL_-maybe along with token poor and token Asian kid?

Beachcomber what a good idea - but you have to be signed in to Facebook to see it..

SanctiMoanyArse · 04/05/2010 08:38

Not for a second Riv which is why I think that the 3 stany out kids will be all that remains of ds's year after the posh-kid exodus

Not that I can work out where new school would go; you can't get planning permission for a lego house round here LOL!

Rosie2010 · 04/05/2010 08:40

This is quite funny bit.ly/bigsociety

SanctiMoanyArse · 04/05/2010 08:42

(of course I should just be happy that the council has afforded to put blue lights under the motorway bridge turrets in prep for the Ryder Cup.... who needs provision when there is blue light? Even if nobody so far has made a case for sustained profit to the community above the hotel being overbooked and a week of traffic hell)

noddyholder · 04/05/2010 08:57

That parent school stuff is pure BS.Why not just encourage parents to be more involved in the schools that are htere instead of allowing the 'right' sort of parent to set their own agenda?????A combination of pass the buck and divisive imho

SanctiMoanyArse · 04/05/2010 09:46

Exactly- our school refuses a pa and parental help in most avenues: resolve that!

Just had this debate with the local bigot (you know the soprt- 'I left the mainstream Church when they allowed those gay people in' etc) and she thinks that parent led schools will be better as parents will be more compassionate to struggling kids

REALLY?

Is that the same parents who ban my kids from playing with theirs or bang on my door to yell?

Dubious, somehow!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/05/2010 10:00

Wubbly I don't have a link, it was a piece on the BBC news channel that I caught yesterday afternoon. Hopefully they will show it again!

wubblybubbly · 04/05/2010 13:03

Thanks Ali. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled.

Truth is I'm now completely confused about what will happen with tax credits.

DC said no-one under £50k, Theresa May has said £40k and now this

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/05/2010 15:19

Wubbly - BBC have just put it up on the site

here

wubblybubbly · 04/05/2010 15:57

Thanks Ali. I see they are still talking about the £40k level.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/05/2010 17:30

Wubbly - family incomes of over £40k will still receive TCs, but the amounts will reduce from £40k rather than from £50k as is the current situation.
So if you have a family income of under £40k you will get exactly the same as you do now, but if you earn over £40k then you will still get TCs, but slightly less.

swallowedAfly - I don't think the tory tax break for married couples is intended to make those who have lost their husbands/wives for any reason feel bad. I have always seen it as an incentive for people to get together and stay together, which of course every kid would love and probably does help them to have a more stable upbringing than swinging from mum to dad and back again (been there, done that).

Also, re the CTC, the whole point is that we are coming out of the deepest recession known and there is a massive budget deficit at the moment which needs repaying. That money has to come from somewhere and it is entirely sensible that people who don't really 'need' the CTC can do without it for a while whilst the economy is being sorted out. DC has clearly stated that any household under £50k will still get their CTC.

At the end of the day, this country has gone down the pan under a labour government, sorry to say it. Political correctness, immigration, schooling, crime etc. are just examples of this. For goodness' sake, I am Indian (born and brought up here) and I used to be so proud of being British, but now I just cringe when you walk down a street in London and can hardly hear any English, or when you drive through Leicester and see fully clad young girls exiting their faith school. There have been too many concessions under this government, a giving away of our British heritage and history.

If you want that back, if you want to be proud of this country again, the only thing to do is get Labour out.

The Tories are a good bet and have my vote all the way. They are not the same party as Thatcher's was, and will do well for all in this country as well as the country itself.

I am so worried about people, particularly after reading many of these comments, who are planning to vote without the full facts. It's your childrens' future. Or do you want them to be learning English as a second language at school whilst watching the teacher being sworn at and a group of hoodies with knives walking down the road?

wubblybubbly · 04/05/2010 19:43

CND, I thought you made a reasoned argument there until this "Or do you want them to be learning English as a second language at school whilst watching the teacher being sworn at and a group of hoodies with knives walking down the road? "

These are the full facts are they? hahaha.
