he's 5 and dh and i were talking politics the other day, ds asked what we were talking about so we tried to explain the electoral system to him (well, dh did, i am a political pleb) he has just asked if he can help us decide who will be boss of the country and go with us to vote. bless!

oo thats a good idea! i think its fab that he is so interested and wants to know about the process.

It's really good, it won't take up too much time, they just need a box and some photocopied bits of paper that the children can stick a cross on.

i will speak to his teacher about it. he is going with dh when he gets back from work to the polling station too

My DS (12) wants to vote too.

We just had a conversation about it all and he has researched all the parties and policies and says he would vote UKIP ( ) when I expressed surprise he came back with 3 key points in their manifesto that he agreed with which made me very proud of him despite disagreeing with his choice!

They are doing an election for the school council next week at my DC's school, to tie in with teaching about the election. I think this is a very good idea. DS2 (who is 5 and in Year 1) is standing, and is currently writing his speech!

helyg, I think your DS could learn a lot from William's wise words about freedom and the socialist state. He could incorporate some of this wisdom into his speech.

Ha ha so far he wants to plant trees and make models to sell to raise money for the school. And he wants to make the school "better".

My other child who IS eligible to vote has no interest whatsoever though

We're doing a mock election at school. The 3 main parties are being represented by 3 6th formers. They have each been given speeches at all the year assemblies all week and also visiting tutor groups through the week.

Citizenship lessons have been the same powerpoint presentation across all years this week too.

Thursday lessons are being suspended for an hour, so that everyone can come to the polling station and last lesson will be dedicated to the count!

It's all very exciting!
