Don't know why troops are there in first place but UKIP make me feel queasy.

BeenBeta · 29/04/2010 09:23

I want them out and we should never have gone in. The whole basis of our being there is NOT to counter the terrorost threat. That is just an excuse. It is part of an obsessive strategic game the global powers have been playing for the past 250 years to control the central Asian region.

Britain has learned nothing from history and we have economic or political need to be there.

callmeDave · 29/04/2010 09:30

I don't think we should have gone in but we did. Now we are there we are under a moral obligation to stay until Afganistan can magage itself without our "help". If we leave now then Afganistan will become a terroist sponsered state again and drag down Pakistan with it.

WE should never gone in their, or Iraq fighting unwinnable wars is costing us billions.

Coolfonz · 29/04/2010 19:38

there

whoopsididitagain · 29/04/2010 19:44

bad idea the country would collapse in on itself and end up back in the hands of the taliban

we are there to defend the right for the afghanistan women to be educated to move about freely to be treated like people

the taliban need to be stopped to do this we need to be in afghanistan

Coolfonz · 29/04/2010 20:22

Yeah, women's rights is why the British state sent the army there.

Apart from the Karzi government legalising rape. Apart from the way military junta allies like Saudi Arabia treat women. Apart from the 20,000 women a year who are trafficked across the Mexico/US border, we're well angry about that. Apart from the abuses that go on all the time in the UK like serial killing prostitutes in East Anglia.

Its women's rights why we support a junkie president and his thugs...

whoopsididitagain · 29/04/2010 21:52

no its not just about womens rights its too stop the taliban

whoopsididitagain · 29/04/2010 21:54

Being a feverish commie I'm not a fan of the Taliban.

But sadly the Taliban - in reality a loose coalition of militias - are part of the Afghan population. So they've kind of got an endless supply of recruits. Killing civilians as NATO forces do all the time - in Kabul's main hospital they have a book of around 2,000 recently killed by British forces (Newsnight) - won't stop recruitment for the Taliban.

Also being allies with the Taliban (aka: the Mujahadein) to defeat socialism in the country in the 1970s and 80s was a huge mistake.

But the US and EU would rather have right wing religious nutcases in charge of a country than socialists, where women worked, were educated, held political office. The US and EU - alongside the Soviet Union of course - helped destroy that society...and have shown no sign of wanting it back. Instead they allow a thug heroin addict to run the country, pay his brother to run death squads and load up the flow of opium and heroin in which the entire political class of Afghanistan are involved.

British forces are there to "project hard power". It is a lesson to the region, like Iraq. If you fuck with our interests we will destroy your societies, your kids, your women...mess with us at your peril. Imperialism, straight up.
