April 22nd TV Debate

I'm going along to be in the audience this Thursday for the Sky News TV Debate - it's being filmed in the South West, although it seems we're not supposed to say exactly where for security reasons.

Would people like an official MN behind-the-scenes report afterwards?

Should I break the rules and heckle/cheer loudly at a strategic moment, and if so then when?

If I'm allowed to ask a question should I go "off-script" and ask about biscuits?

Is there anything else I should think about?

LOL at X-post with MollieO!!

lozzabeth · 22/04/2010 22:20

Can't we all see through this PR BS spouted by NC and DC. Never voted Labour in my life but think GB gets my vote for keeping us focussed on the issues. DC has rose tinted specs..

claig · 22/04/2010 22:22

yes Murdoch owns Fox News

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 22/04/2010 22:23

whifflegarden was complaining MN biased against DC, often heard on here. But...

I was looking at some polls at the weekend (as you do) and saw, 'blah blah...support for the Tories was lower among women, at 27%'.
Now, if you assume that older people are more Conservative, and that MNers are mostly youngish females, you'd expect to see maybe 20% of MNers voting Tory?

So it's hardly surprising those 1 in 5 posters feel outnumbered, but it's not a bias as such, just statistics and demographics...

BeenBeta · 22/04/2010 22:24

Looking at the betting market.

The probability of a Tory outright majority has dropped a bit straight after the debate. The probability of a hung Parliament increased slightly.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 22/04/2010 22:27

Yup, Murdoch owns: fox, sky, new York post, the sun, the times, news of the world ummm star tv in Asia(huge network) my space, wall St journal plus alot more, eg harper Collins book publisher, half of Australian publishing/papers, vogue, inside out magazine, 20th century fox studio, 17.5% itv etc etc

I could go on!

domesticslattern · 22/04/2010 22:33

Squirrel! Where are you? Tell us the inside story!

alicatte · 22/04/2010 22:34

Oh dear - I really like Vogue. Fox News has a 'reputation'. When I watched it it was really rather funny (both haha and peculiar). Guess I'll just have to read the web.

When I did the who's your vote I came out Green which was very surprising as I cannot see myself voting Green

alicatte · 22/04/2010 22:35

Yes Squirrel - what really happened?

Heathcliffscathy · 22/04/2010 22:36

and murdoch has made a deal with cameron. which is why he is spitting now, and will pull all the dirty, slanderous, scaremongering tricks he can via his enormous media cannon to make sure that they only major party he doesn't have in his pocket don't win.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 22/04/2010 22:36

Thought DC and NC came accross as airy fairy, trying to hard to be touchy feely men of the people. GB did better this week than last.

greatfiresoflondon · 22/04/2010 22:39

Just finished watching the debate (skyplussed it tonight). I have concluded that David Cameron is a lot like my breasts after having two babies.

Press him and he has no substance.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 22/04/2010 22:41

nicked from Twitter:

@jamesgraham Is it just me, or is Boulton constantly sniping at Clegg? Does Murdoch have his kids in a van?

@stephenfry: Frankly I'm tempted to vote Lib Dem now. If we let the Telegraph and Mail win, well, freedom and Britain die.

@VictoriaCoren: Stop complaining about the world? This is Britain! I now know that Nick Clegg's actually never met any of us.

@davidschneider: Sky/YouGov saying Cameron won. Based on a sample of people married to the Tory leader.

megcleary · 22/04/2010 22:41

Is Cameron trying not to peak to early?

DreamsInBinary · 22/04/2010 22:41

Interesting stuff, sophable.

What is the deal that Murdoch and Cameron have made, and when did they make it?

bobthebuddha · 22/04/2010 22:42

Murdoch owns Vogue?? This is news to me.. Vogue is Conde Nast - does he have a stake in it?

Heathcliffscathy · 22/04/2010 22:42

i love that stephen fry is a bastion of all things techie, webby and gadgety. it is so...unexpected!

MollieO · 22/04/2010 22:43

YouGov poll question

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 22/04/2010 22:43

Yes, you'd have him down as more of a quill-and-parchment type, wouldn't you?!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 22/04/2010 22:45

Wiki, newscorp say vogue Australia etc

MollieO · 22/04/2010 22:45

Squirrel is probably off snogging NC I know I would be!

Heathcliffscathy · 22/04/2010 22:45

absolutely...i like it when people are unexpected, it heartens me...bit like loads of non-voters coming out and voting libdem!

said · 22/04/2010 22:48

Murdoch owns Nestle as well

MollieO · 22/04/2010 22:50

said owns as in has shares in or owns as majority shareholder?

BeenBeta · 22/04/2010 22:53

megcleary - I hope and pray you are right on 'not peaking too early'.

Next debate is on the economy. DC should be extremely strong on this. He is the only person on the platorm who has an economics degree and he has a good grasp of the numbers an practicalities.

He needs to hammer home that he will not cut front line services but everythng else is about balancng the books by reducing waste and keeping taxes down so the economy can recover.

The economy is GB weak area and NC has not been strong on the numbers in the past.

Will DC put the ball in the back of the net?
