If you don't like the potential MP for the party you want to vote for in your area?

Write to them (you can do this on something like - write to your MP .co.uk) and assuming it's a political stance and not a bad hairdo, tell them how you feel - eg generally I agree with your parties politics especially on X and Y but do not agree with your stance on Z for the following reasons, would you be prepared to change your views?

YesYouMust · 19/04/2010 13:43

No more to do with the fact that they are completely useless and ineffectual.

That could work - I agree with your party but think you are generally ineffective and useless - if you do want my vote, what are you going to do to change this?

Chil1234 · 19/04/2010 15:53

Then you vote for a different candidate and party. I have that problem. Sitting MP and candidate for the party I prefer was up to her neck in the expenses scandal and I can't vote for her in in all conscience. Her party won't de-select her so the voters (me) have to do that job... even if it means a different party wins the seat or the entire election.

That's democracy... if enough people don't vote for the useless or ineffectual candidates then their party will select someone else to represent them next time. If people keep voting for the same party regardless of the quality of the candidate then we end up with even more entrenched 'safe seats' and nothing will ever change.

Or you could stand yourself, of course :-)

I think i live in a 'safe seat' area and the party i think i'm voting doesn't have it.

It's all so complicated can i not just stick my head back in the sand?

Though i do like that idea DeirdeB I may fire off that email and see what the reply is.

Do let me know what the response is!!

Maybe add, if you were not so ineffectual, maybe your party could overturn the safe seat status?
