Tell me why you are voting conservative this time

Lilovoter · 10/04/2010 20:08

Some of my reasons are:

  • I want a smaller state
  • I want a society that encourages aspiration
  • Gordon Brown is odious and he and his team lack credibility and real backbone. They are frighteningly good at spin though!!!
  • I want Labout out of government and a fresh start for Britain. I do not want a Liberal/Labour coalition.

Touché, fo sho. Does unionism - in the context of being Scottish - actually amount to much more than football trbalism?

Aaanyways. To return to the original point, being Scottish by birth is not the same thing as being, by birth, a member of the minute social stratum which can afford - and, crucially, chooses - to send its male children to Eton.

I don't think I have much more to add to this point. It's pretty clear.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 11/04/2010 21:51

Talking of odious men, the reason I would not vote Tory can be summed up in two words: George Osbourne.

MmeBlueberry · 11/04/2010 21:52

You seem to know nothing, OBM

onebatmother · 11/04/2010 21:53

Also, I offered my voting intention in response to MMeB's question and in the spirit of transparency - I'm debating the logic of her point, but am not hugely interested in party-political argy-bargy at this level.

onebatmother · 11/04/2010 21:55

you may be right, Mme. But I am interested in logic, and debate, and where I think that neither are well served, I point it out.

lincstash · 11/04/2010 21:57

Tell me, onebatmother. If you vote labour, your going to put Peter Mandelson back into power, because although hes an unelected Lord, he sticks his nose in and managed to get himself into positions of power in government.

The man has been thrown out of public office twice because hes a liar and a cheat, hes an expert in lining his own pocket with public money, and he a slimy two faced traitor who will sell us down the river to fill his own wallet.

Why would you vote labour knowing they have such odious and objectionable men in there ranks ? The man is a major crook.

onebatmother · 11/04/2010 22:00

I am a pragmatist. And a relativist, lincstash. There are things I dislike about Labour, but many, many more that I loathe about the Conservatives.
Ideology, for a start.

lincstash · 11/04/2010 22:06

I object to Mandelson, he lines his pocket with yours an mine tax money. He become a Lord adn a Millionaire using the most loathesome and immoral methods, hes untrustworthy, deeply dishonest and a liar. The presence of such men in the Labour party shoudl ring massive warning bells about the moral collapse and endemic corruption presnt in Labour.

There policies are irrelevant. You wouldnt leave Mandelson alone with your kids or your wallet, woudl you, you certainly wouldn't trust him with your bank account of you career, and his presence, along with others like him such as Miliband, Balls, Harman, Ainswith, Jacqui Smith and Hazel Blears makes labour deeply deeply flawed and unfit to hold public office.

You are voting for a bunch of proven liars, incompetent idiots, and corrupt thieves.

lincstash · 11/04/2010 22:10

As for ideology, i assume your not pretending labour is a socialst party? We havent had a socialist government for 28 years, labour is pure Thatcherism, pure Keynsian Monetarism and as such, more tory then the tories are - Blair stole Thatchers policies lock stock and barrel. even the kids of the Blairites and Brownites went to better, or as good as, schools than the tories leaders did.

Vote labour, your really voting for thatcherist conservatism, no less.

onebatmother · 11/04/2010 22:12

I would certainly leave Peter Mandelson alone with my children. What are you implying, precisely?

As for the rest - meh. I remember the last Tory government. As I said, I am a relativist.

onebatmother · 11/04/2010 22:13

Labour is pure Thatcherism?

Ah, see thats the trouble with champagne socialists like you, its doesnt matter how crooked they are as long as there one of the brothers, eh ?

As long as you can pretend to be socialist, and still send your kids to private schools, it doesnt matter how much public money people like mandelson steals, or how many lies he tells......

tigger15 · 11/04/2010 22:15

So what are you voting for if you vote for the tories?I'm not being sarcastic I really genuinely don't know. Up until they called the general election I was convinced I'd vote tory because I can't stand the current government. But suddenly now there is a real chance of doing so (and I'm in a swing seat) I'm just not so sure they're up to the job or have more of a clue what to do than the current lot. Lincstash I look forward to hearing your view.

hahahahahah champagne socialist. You have no idea.

lincstash · 11/04/2010 22:18

Labour is pure Thatcherism?

Labour stole all of Thatchers policies lock stock and barrel. And then went even further.

Look at schools. The furthest Thatcher dared go was offer to make some grant maintained. Labour actually 'sold' schools to private companies to run, conpletely separate from the state - that all the PFI is, its privatisation of education!!!

Roads, hospitals, all privatised under PFI, and what a hash they have made of it!!!

So tell me onebatmother, how many times does mandelson have to be ejected from public office for dishonesty before he finally become too crooked to let near public money again ? Or is there no limit to how much he can line his own pocket with your tax revenue ?

tigger15 · 11/04/2010 22:31

Seriously though if Labour is Thatcherism what are the tories?

lincstash · 11/04/2010 22:41

no no, i want an answer about mandelson, this man is disgusting, one of the most immoral and corrupt peopel ever to grace public offiuce, vet peopel like onebatmother seems to not bat an eyelid about voting for the crook, i want t oknow why.

If you want honest, accountable, decent mp's then you have to stop putting people like mandelson in power. if you vote labour, then dont complain when he robs us blind, fiddles his expenses, sells favours, rakes off money and takes bribes, and he will.

If you turn a blind eye to his crooked activities, then your as bad as him.

tigger15 · 11/04/2010 22:54

Just because one side has corrupt people that is not a sufficiently strong reason to vote them out when the other suffers the same problem. If you can't manage to sum up just why anyone should vote tory and only why they shouldn't vote labour I think I'll go back to my swing position.

TDiddy · 11/04/2010 23:04

COuld someone tell me what Osbourne's and Cameron's views are now on "the unfetterd market"? Would they have intervened to avert the impending depression 18 months ago? At the time they said no.

Took them a while to work out what they think of the bonus culture
